Elisabeth Kübler-Ross was a Swiss-American psychiatrist, a pioneer in near-death studies, and author of the internationally best-selling book, On Death and Dying (1969), where she first discussed her theory of the five stages of grief, also known as the "Kübler-Ross model". Kübler-Ross was a 2007 inductee into the National Women's Hall of Fame, was named by Time as one of the "100 Most Important Thinkers" of the 20th century and was the recipient of twenty honorary degrees. By July 1982, Kübler-Ross had taught 125,000 students in death and dying courses in colleges, seminaries, medical schools, hospitals, and social-work institutions. In 1970, she delivered an Ingersoll Lecture at Harvard University on the theme On Death and Dying. The New York Public Library also named, "On Death & Dying" as one of the "Library's Books of the Century."
I have never read a book like this, it is truly unique. I loved the story but more importantly the idea that when our loved ones are gone, its only their bodies that are gone. You CAN see them again, literally. This is the only book I have ever read, for kids, that speaks of out of body experiences in a natural way.
The buzzing sound she speaks of, is real. I thought maybe that only happened to me, but apparently it is universal, though some people don't remember.
This book will scare some American's who have not been exposed to the idea of out of body experiences, I would encourage people to read it with an open mind and definitely read it yourself before reading to the kids, you may need some time to just think about it first.
This was another random library sale grab that was originally destined for my Little Free Library, and while I'm sure it will still end up there because this is a book worth sharing, I think I might hold on to it for a while.
The way the story is set up, it seems like it could go in multiple directions, which is nice, and my mind went to several places it wasn't meant to as I considered what role Theresa and Willy were really playing in Suzy and Peter's lives, especially with Willy's song, which reminded me of something more akin to something the Fae would sing when taking children to their realm.
Still, a fascinating read and something I'd like to come back to a few more times before passing on.
I got so excited over the cover and the title I didn’t realize it was a children’s book 😂 However, it was still a great read! Especially after reading her book on death and dying, it was interesting to read this.
I was given this book many years ago when I was 7 and still in hospital from a horrific car accident that killed my father. It is beautifully written and illistrated. Love this book
