Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

Great plot and a very scary story. The scary comes in when you realize that sometimes the law can't do much when someone is just plain evil and can get others to go along with his religious cult. Although a bit on the rote side, I enjoyed how the H/h didn't give up on each other and how love can bring out all kinds of qualities you never thought were there. This book is part of "The Montana Cahills" Series but they just have very periphery roles.

Lola Dayton escaped from a cult and had a smash-up with Major Cole McCloud during her one night of freedom before she was recaptured by the cult. A year later she manages to escape again and finds Cole because she desperately needs his help. Lola had to leave behind their 3 month old baby daughter and now Cole has to man up and get her back.

This was fast-paced and enjoyable, and certainly never dull, hence the 3 stars.

But, boy, was it dumb!

Be prepared to suspend your disbelief in this tale about Lola Dayton, who has escaped the cult that has been holding her prisoner. She heads straight to the home of Colt McCloud (how she even knew where he lived is one of many unanswered questions), where she begs for his help. They had a one night stand a year ago, which left Lola pregnant. But she was captured by the cult again soon after, her baby taken from her by insane leader Jonas Emanuel. She needs Colt to help her get their baby back.

Strangely enough, this is actually part of a mini-series in which none of the other six books are actually part of the Intrigue line. Not sure how that works. But not to worry, you don't need to have read any of the other books. There are no ongoing storylines in this one, and there are no dangling plot strands left at the end. Quite refreshing! Daniels also manages to keep backstories of other tangential characters to a minimum. Praise be!

But, boy, was it dumb!

The only way this plot can happen is if you have the world's most clueless, useless sheriff. Sheriff Flint Cahill is happy to take a cult leader at his word and not investigate claims of stolen babies to any degree at all. He's all, "Meh, Lola sounds like a hysterical woman and it's a pain investigating cults that pretend to be religious charities." THEN, For real?!? REALLLY?!? Think of your laziest, stupidest, most ineffectual law enforcement officer, times it by 100, and you've got Flint Cahill. A search of Goodreads shows he actually has his own book in this mini-series! I'm assuming he's a completely different person in that book, but I certainly won't be reading it!

The stupidity unfortunately carries over to the h and H.

Buuuuuut, I still enjoyed it. Sometimes, when a book is as dumb as this, requiring you to not only suspend disbelief, but throw it out the window, you just go along with it. B.J. Daniels is generally one of the better Intrigue writers, and even though this book is far less complex than her usual mysteries, it thankfully avoids the trap many others fall into, of repetitive boredom. If I'm enjoying the action and suspense, sometimes I can go with the silliness and actually have fun with it.

This is the first I have read of this series. It was fine to read as a stand alone. The premise was what drew me to the story. There is a fair bit of action and intrigue happening. Enough to keep things interesting. I enjoy changing POV in stories. However, it became a bit confusing when the POV switched mid chapter. Sometimes there were 3 or more in a chapter. Again, fine, but it would read smoother to me if there were headings maybe. It took a few sentences to realize the scene had switched and I was reading as a different character.

All said, not a bad read, but a bit bumping in the writing style.

An exciting book, loosely tied to the Cahill family in Gilt Edge, Montana. Colt is an army helicopter pilot home on leave to settle his father's estate. Not interested in following in his father's footsteps as a rancher, he plans to sell the ranch and return to his unit. Those plans take a back seat when a woman from his past shows up at his door.

Lola was in Montana to get her parents' remains from the cult they had joined. The cult leader refused to hand them over and insisted that Lola had been promised to him by her parents. One escape attempt sent her into Colt's arms before she was taken again. After she was recaptured, Lola discovered she was pregnant with Colt's baby, but she was too closely guarded to escape. After the baby's birth, she was able to make her escape only by leaving Grace behind. Determined to rescue her daughter, she went to Colt for help.

The story opened with a bang, as Lola flees through the woods to get away. It was easy to feel her fear and desperation during that flight. Colt's surprise at finding her at his door in the middle of the night was obvious, but nothing compared to the news that he was a father. I liked the fact that he believed her story and was determined to help her, taking her first to the doctor, then to Sheriff Flint Cahill.

I have to say that I was extremely disappointed in Flint. After hearing her story, and accompanying Colt and Lola to the cult compound, I thought he was far too easily swayed to the cult leader's point of view. With as much publicity as cults have gotten in recent years, any lawman worth his salt should have been far more skeptical. I was a bit disappointed in Colt also, as Jonas's words created some doubt in his mind, but that doubt was quickly erased, and his determination rekindled.

I was glued to the pages as I watched Colt and Lola plan and carry out their rescue of Grace. With frequent glimpses of Jonas's point of view, it was obvious to me that he wasn't going to give up easily, though Colt and Lola thought they were safe. The final confrontation was intense. I liked how Lola actively participated in saving herself and Grace. You definitely don't mess with Mama Bear and her little one!

I liked the development of the relationship between Colt and Lola. There was a deeper connection than just physical attraction between them in their first encounter, and neither had forgotten the other. I liked Lola's instinctive trust of Colt, and her happiness at the way Colt took to being a father. It doesn't take her long to fall for him, but her independence refuses to allow her to accept anything given out of obligation. There were a few times when I felt like she carried that independence a bit too far, but eventually she realized that accepting help didn't make her weak or dependent. I liked Lola's support of Colt as he battled his feelings over Julia's betrayal.

Colt is a little warier of his feelings for Lola, having been burned by his fiancée's betrayal, but he can't deny that he has them. There was a terrific scene between Colt and his ex, which helped him clarify his feelings for Lola. His big moment with Lola was sweet, and I loved the bit about the ring. I wasn't too surprised by his decision regarding his future plans, and loved his decision about some of the ranch lands.

A quick read that pretty well stands alone as prior characters and open plots points are barely seen or mentioned.

I wasn't able to buy into this story as it just lacked the necessary development of the characters and plot. For me, most of the book was a yawn.

I've read a lot of books by Ms. Daniels that I like but I doubt I'll continue this series.

An action-packed, heart-grabbing installment!

He would slay dragons for this woman.

Cowboy’s Redemption by B.J. Daniels is the fourth action-packed, heart-grabbing installment in her Montana Cahills series set in Gilt Edge, Montana. It can easily be enjoyed as a stand alone if that is your preference though fans of the series will appreciate the appearances of previous favorite characters. The preceding books have all featured Cahill siblings as one of the main characters. This tale breaks from the mold as the Cahills are supporting characters herein. Cowboy’s Redemption chronicles the saga of army helicopter pilot Colt McCloud and Lola Dayton.

A year prior to the story’s beginning, Colt is on leave and reeling from learning that his fiancé has been unfaithful with his best friend. Meanwhile, Lola has narrowly escaped from a cult where she’s been held against her will. In a serendipitous moment, the couple experiences an unforgettable one-night stand. The morning after, Colt finds himself alone as Lola leaves their room to pick up breakfast and doesn’t return. Unknown to Colt, she doesn’t return to their room as she is recaptured by the cultists.

Fast-forward to the present day. Lola is once more able to breakout and immediately desperately seeks Colt as she needs his help. His expertise and muscle are needed to reclaim Grace, their three-month-old baby that Colt knows nothing about. Understandably, Colt can’t fathom what to think about her claims, but he is willing to do anything he can to retrieve her baby and insure that she and Grace are both safe.

Colt and Lola are both likable characters and it is easy to connect with them. How Colt stays so level-headed throughout is beyond me. He is loyal, smart, and brave; never questioning the end goal of freeing the baby and Lola. He almost seems inhuman in that he doesn’t think twice about putting himself in danger in the process. I can only think it is his military training kicking in.

Before being ensnared by the cultists, Lola takes great pride in her independence. She is no fan of cults and is innocently lured into their web. It is truly frightening to read about how it transpires and why escaping from the cult’s clutches is so difficult. Through it all, Lola is amazing – again, almost unreal. She keeps her wits about her throughout and outsmarts the bullies with meticulous planning. It seems like this couldn’t happen in this country, but this storyline makes it all too plausible.

Colt’s and Lola’s romance is sweet, but is greatly overshadowed by the chilling plotline with danger rearing its ugly head at every shocking twist and turn. I would add that I am blown away by how maturely Lola listened and supported Colt as he deals with his fiancé’s and his best friend’s betrayals. Her responses are a textbook lesson in relationship skills.

The cult leader and his zombie followers are beyond creepy. It’s mind-boggling to read about cultists and how they can be coerced into mindlessly following a charismatic leader - leaving law enforcement powerless to step in. Truthfully, cults are not something I like to think about.

I hope B.J. is inspired to give Colt’s partner, Tommy Garrett, his own story in the future. My heart went out to him in this tale. He deserves someone to fill the empty place in his heart.

Following please find a few of my favorite lines from Cowboy’s Redemption:

“Hope you like my gumbo.”
“I know we will,” Colt said, and took a bite.
“Not too spicy for you?” the cook asked with a laugh.
“As long as it doesn’t melt the spoon, it’s not too spicy for me.”
---
“Tell me you have a plan.” He swore when Colt didn’t answer right away.
---
“Great, you know how I love zombies. Except you can’t kill zombies.”

Cowboy’s Redemption started with a bang recounting one of Lola’s frantic freedom flights. The story then kept me glued to the pages as the intenseness of the plot doesn’t relent even a fraction until the very end. Their adventure is exciting, heart-rending, wild and downright scary. I don’t know how I missed reading this installment earlier – but I’m glad that I have now read this episode and am once more caught up with this fantastic series. I would recommend Cowboy’s Redemption to anyone who enjoys western romantic suspense. I look forward to reading Cyrus Cahill’s story coming in November 2018!

Cowboy's Redemption is the most recent novel in The Montana Cahills series, a series I've been following and one which I've given mixed reviews, and this review is going to follow that pattern, because these novels, while enjoyable reads for the most part, have some issues, which is why I could only give Cowboy's Redemption a 2-star rating. Let me start out by staying that the plot was interesting enough to keep me reading it in one sitting, but as soon as I read the last page, my thoughts immediately went to what I perceived as problems and inconsistencies.

The first issue relates to the cover and the title, which seemed to have absolutely nothing to do with this novel. The cover photo shows a handsome cowboy astride a horse, it's a good photo, but at no point in this novel is there a cowboy, let alone one on horseback. The hero, Major Colt McCloud, is in the military, where he is a helicopter pilot, a job he loves. He's inherited the Montana ranch from his recently deceased father, a ranch that's been owned by his family since his great great grandfather's day, but he hates ranching, and is on leave and in the process of trying to sell it, lock, stock and barrel. For a working ranch he seems to be the only one there, no other cowboys, no ranch foreman, no cook, no one caring for the animals--nada. Then we get to the title, which, try as I might, I could not figure out. Colt loves his career in the military, and while he was in Afghanistan, the young woman to whom he was engaged, cheated on him with his best friend and ended their engagement, making him a victim., so I couldn't help but wonder exactly why he needed redeeming when he'd done nothing wrong.

We next meet Lola, as she's escaping from the clutches of a quasi-religious cult to which her now deceased parents belonged, The Society of Lasting Serenity, run by cult leader, Jonas Emanuel. She manages to make it to the highway and ends up knocking on Colt's door in the middle of the night. She's the last person he expected to see, especially since during their one night stand a year ago, the night that Colt's fiance broke their engagement. He and Lola never even exchanged last names. He's soon to discover that their one-night stand resulted in the birth of their baby daughter, Grace, now 3-months old and held captive at the cult's compound, after being born and immediately removed from Lola's care. It seems that Jonas wants Lola as his wife, although he's 20 years older than she, and someone she hates and blames for the death of her parents. She finally manages to convince Colt that she's telling the truth after he has her examined by a local doctor, and the fact that she's recently given birth is confirmed.

They enlist the aid of Sheriff Flint Cahill, and return to the cult's compound with him, where they are totally snowed by Jonas, who insists that Lola had a stillborn male child, that she's off her meds, schizophrenic, and delusional, which is why she's concocted this ridiculous story, and after a brief tour of the compound, including a visit to a small mound of dirt in the compound's cemetery, they leave, something else that made no sense. Why on earth would law enforcement take the cult leader at his word, after hearing from a distraught mother that her child has been kidnapped, and that she's been held prisoner of the cult since the day it was born. Again, the lack of further investigation by law enforcement made absolutely no sense.

Eventually, Lola and Colt return to the compound late one night and manage to steal back baby Grace, but they do so without backup, without law enforcement, without weapons, and instead of taking the baby and getting as far away from the cult as they can, they go right back to Colt's ranch, and assume that now that they have baby Grace back, all is well, something else that made no sense. Why didn't they even consider that as a possibility? Why didn't they notify law enforcement that they needed protection? It was clear that the cult leader wanted Lola and wanted Lola badly enough that he wasn't about to give her up, so it's no surprise when he once again has them abducted.

The novel continues on in this fashion to an HEA ending, but the plot and its many inconsistencies kept piling up and stretched my willing suspension of disbelief to the breaking point. I've read many of Ms. Daniel's novels over the years, and I know that she's a far better writer than is exhibited in this novel, which also lacked any sort of relationship building, character development, or a believable plot. It also felt as if the author was racing to finish this novel by a deadline, and simply didn't have the luxury of time to smooth out all its rough edges.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

18 months ago, Colt had a one-night stand that he can't seem to get out of his mind. He hasn't seen the woman since and doesn't expect to ever see her again. When a woman comes running out of the woods one night, he sees that she seems to be distressed and asks her what's wrong. To his surprise, it is the same woman that he had a one-night stand with. Lola claims that she was taken by the leader of a cult that her parents had been a part of and that she had a baby while in captivity. She is desperate for his help to reclaim their baby, and Colt must step up to save the daughter that he never got the chance to meet.

This book was a little iffy for me. The plot of saving the child from the cult was interesting, but I couldn't truly get behind the romance. I understand, the two characters did have chemistry and had a family together. Their scenes where they acted as a family unit were sweet to read. But I still felt that there was something missing between the two of them that just made the romance seem dry to me.

Other than me not truly connecting with the characters, the story was amazing. I was definitely drawn in once we saw things from the cult leader's POV, and truly got to see how crazed he had become. There were even some details given about his past and why he had created the group in the first place. I always love seeing the thoughts in the villain's head, and while it did not justify what he did, the small details did make him feel more human than before.

There wasn't an extreme amount of character development in my opinion, but Lola did transform from a rather timid woman to a brave woman determined to do anything necessary to save her child. Seeing this transformation was definitely a treat.

I also wish that some of the scenes had been described a bit more. It was hard to "see" how the cult's compound differed from Colt's house because of the lack of description. This is often lacking in short romance novels, but this one just seemed to have an excessive lack of setting.

Overall, I still enjoyed the book and would recommend it to lovers of adult romance novels with a bit of an action/adventure storyline added in.

I received an advance copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.

I want to thank B.J. Daniels, author for the gift of a paper back copy of Cowboy's Redemption ~ The
Montana Cahills ~ Book 4 that I received as a surprise in the mail. I am writing this review giving my honest reaction to this book.

Cowboy's Redemption starts with Lola's escape from a religious cults compound high on a Montana mountain, she is not only running for her life but also to get help to rescue her three month old daughter. She runs to the father of her child, Major Colt McCloud (US Army helicopter pilot). They had conceived a child when they meet and shared one night together. This stars the adventurous love at first sight plot to get their daughter Grace back, a successful raid on the cult's compound, a surprise attack on the couple in the middle of the night, and a daring rescue and best of all a happy ending. I love second chance hero stories with lots of action and was one of the best I have read in awhile.

Colt had one night of passion with Lola and never saw her again, little did he expect for more then a year later for her to show up at his door frazzled and talking about a child they had made and some connection to a cult that has her child. He isn't sure what to think but is willing to do everything he can to save her baby and make sure that Lola is safe.

This book had everything I enjoy in a mystery romance, thing is I'm not fond of books that have cults in it. If I knew I would've never picked this book up I'm not a fan a books with cults in it. Even knowing that though I still manged to find myself sucked up into this book and enjoying the characters and just how everything played out in the book. I loved that connection between the two, I loved that they both would risk everything for those that they love. Overall this was a pretty great book I really enjoyed it.

I liked this book. Colt isn't settling down on the ranch. He is only staying there for a bit because of a provision in his father's will. Lola and Colt only spent one night together a year ago but it left both of them with something that neither expected. A daughter. At least that is what Lola is telling Colt.

There is a lot she didn't tell him on that night, like who she was running from or why they wanted her. Colt wants to believe Lola and is determined that if she is telling the truth, he will make sure she and their daughter iare taken care of. There was plenty of action. The love wasn't really there for me but it was ok.

It was a 3/5 for me. Entertaining read.

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

A one night stand, a cult and a baby are at the heart of the Cowboy's Redemption. Colt McCloud and Lola Dayton had the one night stand. At the time Lola was running from cult members and Colt's fiancee had just broken up with him. They felt a connection and it reawakened 18 months later when Lola came to Colt asking for help getting their daughter away from the cult. Danger, tension and romance followed. Both are new characters to this series. They are aided by characters from previous books. The plot is interesting, the characters are well developed and both Lola and Colt have to make some life changing decisions after they get the baby back. A nice addition to the series.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

I won a copy of this book from the author, I was not required to give a favorable review. This was a little different from the others. This brought the Cahill family into the storyline but not directly about them. But it was wonderful anyway. Colt met Lola a year ago in a hotel when she was trying to get away from a cult her parents had joined and suddenly died in. She was taken back and he went back to service in the Army. Now he is home because his father has passed and is selling the ranch, Lola is running away from the cult because she needs to get away and get help getting her daughter back. Little did she know she was going to show up at his door. And then have to tell her about their daughter. This one keeps you on your toes. I loved it.

As usual, BJ Daniels has written a book that is hard to put down. Colt McCloud gets a surprise visit from an old acquaintance, who he can tell, is in trouble...he just doesn’t know how much trouble yet or what he is in for. As you get more into the story you find out about a lot of characters & the unscrupulous leader of a cult. But, it has a happy ending. It is definitely an intriguing story that you must read.

Fantastic!

B. J. Daniels has a way of writing that keeps you glued to the pages of the book. Cort and Lola met a year ago, now she is back on his doorstep begging him for help to save their daughter. The mystery and suspense had my poor heart pounding double time. The beautiful love story that developed between Cort and Lola was the cherry on top! Can't wait for the next book in the series!!!!!

A one night stand leads to a family Colt didn't know he had. Lola was running from a madman and asked for help from Colt. The next morning the cult that she had run from captured her again and Colt didn't know where she had gotten to. Then 12 months later she shows up again asking for help and bleeding scratches all over her face and arms. She wants help in getting their baby out of the compound!

I enjoyed this intriguing romance. I bought this at our local library book sale and I voluntarily chose to review this book. This is not for the under 18 readers but there is lot of action to pull you in and keep you turning the pages. Lots of clues to show who the bad guy is. I so wanted him gone at the end. Need to read to find out.
