Howling With Lust

Rate this book
“ ‘Beware. Keep out. Bears, wolves, coyotes, monsters.’ Monsters?” Micah squinted, re-reading the faded paint on the shabby, haphazard fence. “Yep, monsters.”

“What do you think?” Zeke asked. “Meth lab?”

“Out here? Nah. Nudist colony.” Micah grinned at his friend, who rolled his eyes with that little half-smile that haunted Micah’s dreams.

“Onward?” Zeke asked.

“And upward,” Micah confirmed. “School starts next week. I’m not facing a hundred and eighty teenagers without a full adventure under my belt.”

“The universe doesn’t control us; we change it as it changes us. Any questions?”

There are two things that Micah and Zeke have agreed on since high school. The first is this: life is better when it’s filled with adventure. The second, the one they’ve never spoken aloud, is that no matter how much they lust for each other, they will not risk their friendship.

In and out of foster care, Zeke’s life has been one of tumult and tragedy, and everyone he cares for leaves him. Micah is devoted to his students, and doesn’t need the distraction of a relationship. The two know better; they are better off as best friends, and the unspoken pact between them keeps their mutual attraction at bay.

But when a savage wolf brings their latest adventure to an end with two vicious bites, they are forced to draw closer together . . . closer than they’ve ever been before. As Micah and Zeke start to shift, so does their relationship.

Micah and Zeke prepare to live a new life ruled by the moon, stained with blood, and dominated by lust. Just as they are finally ready face their feelings for each other, their new community demands their help in the face of a true monster.

Will love destroy the friendship that means so much to Micah and Zeke, or will it be the only thing that saves them when their entire world shifts along with them?

In this 60,000-word friends-to-lovers gay paranormal romance, can the foundation of friendship survive the animalistic changes these two men are beginning to endure together? With intense, passionate scenes of hot gay sex, Howling with Lust is an omegaverse wolf shifter story intended for adult readers only.

Micah and Zeke have been best friends since childhood. Now as adults, they still find the time to hang out when they can. They have kept a secret from each other. They both have feelings for each other but either are reluctant to make the first move because they do not want to jeopardize their friendship.

With school starting soon, Micah wants one last adventure with Zeke before he has to face his students. They decide to go on a hike and plan on a simple camping trip. What it turns out to be was anything but simple. During their hike, Micah and Zeke decide to go up the mountain further than either ever had. There they encounter a sign warning hikers to not trespass beyond a certain point and to beware of the dangers of monsters. Not heeding the warning, they proceed and make camp. That decision will change their lives forever.

During the night they are attacked by a huge wolf and both end up being bitten. They are found and helped by an older man. The man proceeds to tell them that they did not get bitten by any wolf, but a werewolf and now they are infected and will turn during the next full moon.

They both must face the fact that they will literally become monsters. They take comfort in each other and as they transform physically, so does their relationship. They will be tested and emotions run high.

I really appreciated the interesting perspective the author had on werewolves. I have never heard of some of the behaviors of werewolves have until this book. The story did have some things that I could have done without, however, overall the concept was very interesting and I did enjoy the story.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Some one give me a proper beating if I decide to name my kids Change or Justice. Those names are bullying waiting to happen. It's amazing how people can come up with the weirdest names.

Names aside, the story was just... disappointing. The opening chapters gave me the impression of something great. The potential plot line kind of reminded me of Teen Wolf and it some what excited me a bit how different the story could be. That was before I got to the middle of the book. By then, I was annoyed the story flatlined and left me ass deep in disappointment.

When I noticed the title 'Howling with Lust' it gave me one thought and one thought only. Especially since my mind lives in the sexual gutter. I expected steam from the get-go. Never did I think to remember the word lust also means great longing or want. So, imagine my frustration when a hundred pages in and I still didn't know who the omega was.

I'm not a fan of slow burns and this reminded me of it. But then again, the other half of the book was rushed and seemed detached from the entire story. Still, it might just be me and I'm making a big deal out of nothing. So, go ahead, read it for yourself. You might just like it...or not.

The bare bones of the story were intriguing and on it’s own made for a good read but there were some issues with the flow of the story. Micah and Zeke have been best friends since High School. They just so happen to have a crush on each other but won’t act on it because they’re scared they’ll ruin their friendship. As a last hurrah before summer vacation ends and school starts for Micah the two decide to go on a little hiking/camping trip and ignore the warning signs placed on the path....

Flow issues and it was just a tad contradictory. Micah and Zeke acted as if they had no idea monsters was a real thing. I mean for Zeke it could have been possible but Micah I highly doubt he would dismiss it seeing as his father is afflicted.

The buildup of the story was good but it’s so slow that I had time to actually formulate questions and think through how the story would go and whether or not the author managed to assuage those formulated questions in the story. I’m not sure that bodes well since I usually am so immersed in a story those things don’t happen to after I finish or not at all.

An ARC was provided to me in exchange for impartial review.

A wonderful book with good writing. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters likeable. The characters were developed and thought out. Micah and Zeke are the MC’s of this book. There was humor, wolves, school, kids, family, bad guy, barred cells, grief, government involvement, experiments, emotional confusion and so much more in this book.

Here is a quote from the book, “How many words?’ Jeremiah asked for the back row. “As few or as many as it takes to depict the scene,” Micah said. “But you only have ninety minutes to write it, so be sure you pace yourself properly. Meeting deadlines is just as important for a professional writer as writing good stories. Because of that, unfinished scenes will receive a zero.” This inspired groans from all corners of the room. “I know, I’m evil,” Micah grinned.”. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can recommend. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Great story with an...interesting...epilogue

I loved this story with a unique spin on the werewolf mythology. Zeke and Micah were both so much fun to read about, and see them grow - both individually and together. It was great to see everyone come together and stand up for what is right rather than submit to what was easy.

The one thing that I didn’t understand was the ending. Was the whole werewolf thing only due to some kind of magic Kenneth was doing? Did killing him destroy the ability to shift in everyone who turned in his bloodline? What about those who were born weres? If everyone became human again, how was Justice born? Micah’s explanation may have indicated that maybe they were still paranormals but now had the ability to choose how/when they shifted...

Honestly, I was fine until the epilogue and now I suddenly am full of questions about the whole book. Hopefully this is only the first in a series and everything will eventually be answered.

I read this book to give Liam Kingsley another chance - his first title, Dying to Live, was well-written, but he ruined the first part for me by something he did in the second part (not to get too spoilery.) It tore my heart out, but not in a good way - note to the author: Don't mess with my HEA! So I was a little dubious going in.

Howling with Lust was a really great read. The relationships between and among the characters were well-drawn and very interesting, and the plot kept you turning the pages. I liked the twists on werewolf transformation, as well as the way lycanthropy spread in the town, and the antagonist was delightfully creepy. I'm not completely sure about the characters' status at the end, but since this book is described as Book 1, I can wait for Book 2 to get another angle on it. If Book 2 is as good as Book 1, this may become one of my favorite series!

A different and interesting take on shifters. I really liked both of the main characters and quite a few of the secondary. Would have been a 5 star book of I wasn't left a little confused on some of the shifter/human biology. I would go a little more in-depth in this issue but I don't like giving spoilers in my review. I received a free advanced review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I liked Liam’s story and think that others who enjoy shifter books will agree.
For me it had that, I want to keep reading to the end feel about it, even though you know there will more than likely be an HEA.

There is a difference to other shifter stories that has a little quirk at the end.

Love it....First paragraph and I was hooked. Liam has published three so far and I loved all of them. He has his own spin on the “werewolf romance/mpreg them” which I adore. Awesome writer one to keep an eye out. I right clicked and bought it before read the book blurb...check it out ...

Loved it.

The characters were all great. The good, bad, ugly & the beautiful. I enjoyed Liam's take on things in this novel. Just a variation of a theme that delights us no matter what. Looking forward to the series continuing. Read and enjoy.
