Bell Sound #1

The Forever Christmas Tree

Rate this book
The Christmas bells are chiming across the Outer Banks town of Bell Cove, North Carolina, but there’s one local ‘grinch’ who’s not listening . . .

He’s got bad-boy looks and a Bah Humbug attitude, so when the local paper asks the villagers to vote on the “Biggest Local Grinch” as a fund-raising project, Ethan Rutledge isn’t surprised to hear he’s made the ballot. He might own the local Christmas Tree Farm, but the holiday hasn’t been welcome in his home since Wendy Patterson left him heart-broken twelve years ago.

But now Wendy’s back, fresh from a tour of duty as a female Navy SEAL. She’s bold, beautiful, and has five Navy buddies trailing after her—as if she needs a bodyguard! And what’s all this about them wanting to start a treasure hunting company right here in Bell Cove’s failing bell factory? Then Wendy learns about how Ethan’s been nurturing the one thing he has to remember her a gorgeous Norway Spruce tree.

Can the magic of Christmas and the spirit of the town help rekindle the romance between two people who thought they’d left love behind years ago?

5-Stars+++++ I love this book. You can supply your own superlatives if you want, they all apply. It's cute, sweet, and just a wonderful second-chance romance without the overdose of angst I find in so many romance novels. The quirky bell town, the dancing seniors, the single dad trying to care for a handicapped daughter, the girl who got her heart ripped apart by the boy she loved. It is just a fantastic Christmas book and I highly recommend it to everyone who needs a touch of something special this year.

Ethan Rutledge and Wendy Patterson had a bad breakup 12 years ago. Wendy hasn't been back in Bell Sound, NC since. Now she has some decisions to make regarding her family home. Wendy and Ethan had plans, but when they split they each went totally different ways. Wendy became a female SEAL (yeah, I know there is no such thing, but, this is fiction). Ethan took over his family Christmas Tree business and made it a huge success. The only thing these two think they need is closure, or as Wendy's SEAL buddy JAM says "you meet to f--- each others brains out to get it out of you systems". Either way will require that the come fact to face with each other, and won't that be fun.

I loved this book. Ethan and Wendy still love each other from 12 years ago and never got over the hurt from that time. But they fight it as much as possible. They both claim they hate each other and were hurt to much to be friends. This was a fun Christmas story with a little sex thrown in.

I received this from the publisher and Pure Textuality for review.

2.5 Stars rounded Up

The Forever Christmas Tree” had me conflicted for the pros and cons I felt throughout reading. What I like about this book is the esprit de corps the townsfolk of Bell Cove shared. Despite the constant squabble, the community also showed they care about one another; coupled with a certain wacky, devil may care attitude, and a dash of nosiness of the small town people. All these things combined with the holiday spirit delighted me.

However, I had issues with the leading character in the book over the main issue and even way passed half the book I often gritted my teeth each time Ethan spoke or just plain thought about Wendy. Something I didn’t foresee when I first read the blurb. You see, while the blurb not exactly misleading, it sounded now to favor Ethan who had actually caused the whole kerfuffle twelve years ago with his careless sulking. To sum-up: twelve years ago he cheated on his girlfriend (there was “excuse” on the why, of course) and impregnated another girl, then had the nerve to feel hurt and disappointed when said girlfriend - who was brokenhearted - up and left town. Forget about feeling guilty of wrongdoing someone, he felt said girlfriend didn’t really love him; because if she did, she’d stay and support him!! Can’t you believe this guy!?!?! Then the first time he met her again, he snark-insulted her?? Wow. I mean WOW. It took a major surgery on the character’s personality for me to like this guy!!

With that issue looming, it pained me to see how (still) attached Wendy seemed to be to her ex (especially considering the lack of groveling involved from his side). For the better part of the book, Ethan kept questioning Wendy’s true feeling, believing he loved more than she did, and never stop at a chance to dig on the fact “she’s the one who left” or “she will leave again.” Given the story told alternately from Ethan and Wendy’s POVs, it was really trying my patience to listen to Ethan gabbing about her accusingly in his mind.

The heroine Wendy was a modern wonder woman, a kickass few of WEALS or women SEAL for eight years (a fictional position, I assumed, as until recent years the post for special operations warfare combatant is unavailable for women in US military). It’s amusing what she talked herself to over meeting Ethan again for the first time after twelve years; after the initial reaction to turn tail and run, she refrained and thought, what kind of “hard-assed, ever battle-ready” female SEAL was she if she jumped ship and bailed at the first obstacle? she greeted her former love-of-of-her-life. I might question her choice of a boyfriend and her many hesitancy (in relation to Ethan), but I applauded her grit in admitting - very early on, I have to point out - that her haste in leaving might contribute to the problem (not that I blame teenager Wendy for bailing on a cheating boyfriend). I mean, I’m all for second chance romance, but redemption part got to be on point - which is sadly lack in this particular book.

From a boisterous Patterson house to comical board meetings, town’s holiday festive and everywhere in between, this first entry to the contemporary “Bell Sound” series was a merry romp of story and promising more shenanigans to come in the sequels. A bit over the top and often long-winded on the detail perhaps (such as the opening chapter that introduced the guys and gals of SEALs - which include name, rank, nickname, and “necessary” background - from the author’s earlier books), but entertaining nonetheless. The madcap lot of side characters were what kept me from dropping this book altogether - with Ethan pitching from the dark side for opposite result...

So you see, conflicted. Even the hero last show of good faith was too late to boost his appeal for me. For a Hill newbie reader, altogether this is not a total fail for me, though not necessarily a successful one either. It was somewhere in between and worked as a lighthearted holiday read (again, if one is willing to overlook the hero’s holier than thou attitude). And I also didn’t really click with the author’s writing style here. But who knows, I might be feeling disposed to read other titles from her backlist someday. I’ll keep my option open for this time.

Wendy left her small North Carolina Outer Banks island home twelve years ago because the love of her young life, her forever love, cheated on her and got another girl pregnant. He ruined their plans and she wanted nothing but to get away.

Now a Navy SEAL, Wendy is finally returning home to visit her beloved Aunt for Christmas. She's coming home with backup, all of her Navy SEAL teammates, and is determined she'll not let Ethan knock her back.

But Ethan is now a widower, and he's still feeling it for Wendy, even though he's made at her for leaving all those years ago and never telling him where she went. Despite his anger, despite marrying and never really loving his now dead wife, Ethan kept nurturing the Christmas tree they planted all the years ago, the tree they were supposed to cut for their first Christmas as a married couple. And when he sees Wendy, battle scarred, but beautiful, he wants her back.

Ah, if only this was the story, if it was that simple. But this book tries to be all things. There's a gigantic cast of secondary slap-stick characters, including at least seven who live with Wendy's aunt, the entire SEAL team, some of whom are thinking of becoming modern day treasure hunters??, obvious set up for further books in the series, and so much more. Plus a Grinch contest, massive amounts of description of the small town, the bell factory, the architexture of the various homes, and so much more. I felt so bogged down in telling and description I had no time to buy Wendy and Ethan's rekindled romance.

I loved Wendy, I loved that she was a Navy SEAL. I hated that there is an apparently completely separate group for "female" Navy SEALs called "WEALs." Why? SEAL is a non-gendered acronym.

I loathed Ethan. There is never a real explanation besides "Wendy was away for a bit and he was jealous" so he had a drunk one night stand with a girl who ended up pregnant. Um, how long did it take Ethan to confess his error? You don't catch pregnant immediately, so um, no. Ethan never explained his actions to Wendy, and I never felt his anger at Wendy was justified in any way. He's totally free with letting his young daughter know he never loved her mother, whom he married, as much as he loved Wendy. He never really groveled enough for my satisfaction.

So, alas, this was not really for me, despite the great premise and the awesome Wendy.

Thank you for the ARC Avon!

Ugh! This book gets 1.5 stars for good supporting characters. As for the main characters, it is a huge thumbs down. The whole premise of the book was ridiculous to me. 18 year old Ethan and Wendy are deeply in love. But then he cheats on her because he is mad she has other plans. But he was drunk and young so we are supposed to forgive this. But it turns out he did not use protection and got the other girl pregnant! Glossed over is the part where he does not tell Wendy about the cheating until the pregnancy comes out...hmmmm. Anyhow, Wendy is upset that he plans to move this girl into his house/slash marry her to give the baby a name (this is unclear/inconsistent). So she leaves town. And somehow, we are supposed to buy that her leaving town is equally egregious to Ethan’s acts! WTH? Then, we are supposed to believe that their love is still as strong as ever, despite their years apart, presumably because it was so true and strong. This is the same love that led to cheating, lying, and a baby with another woman! I could not buy into this love story one bit!!!

Wendy Patterson wanted to become a doctor and take over her father's practice but due to a broken heart, left her home town of Bell Cove to become a female Navy SEAL. Ethan Rutledge gave up hopes of being a veterinarian to take over the family Christmas Tree farm, because of one mistake. Can love be better the second time around or were they doomed from the start?
Throw in a few SEALS, some dancing seniors, a town full of busy bodies and a town fund raiser project that happens to be a Grinch contest with a surprise winner for this first book in a new series. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Sandra Hill knows how to take you into a story and make you feel as though you are there, add in a wonderful sense of humor and you are in for a treat.

2019 bk 290. 2020 - bk 42. Sandra Hill's time traveling Vikings, Navy SEALS and WEALS, JINX Inc. along with a hint of Cajun combine most of the elements of her past series into a new series set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina with The Forever Christmas Tree. This is the story of two people who loved each other through elementary, middle, and high school - only to have one night of drinking destroy what had been theirs. Now in their early thirties the two come together at Christmas time amid a boarding house for seniors and a Grinch contest. Sandra Hill's signature work of living and loving seniors and quirky characters continues into this new series.

Good second chance story in a small town. Twelve years earlier, Wendy left town after her boyfriend cheated on her and got another girl pregnant. Broken hearted she left for college, where she was later recruited for the WEALS, the female SEALs program. She hasn't been back to Bell Cove since then, though her family has visited her. But after a rough mission, she was ready for a break. The one thing she didn't look forward to was the possibility of seeing Ethan again.

Ethan hasn't been the most cheerful person lately. Instead of following his dream of being a veterinarian, the choices he made in the past sent him in a different direction. He married the girl he got pregnant and is now the single father of an eleven-year-old girl with health problems. Instead of being a vet, he runs the family Christmas tree farm. Hearing that Wendy was coming back to town brought back the old memories and resentments, putting him in a Grinch-like funk.

The sparks flew between Ethan and Wendy from the moment they saw each other again, and they weren't all good ones. Ethan was downright rude, blaming Wendy for leaving, even though it was his actions that had caused the rift. Thank goodness Cassie was there because otherwise, I think Wendy would have pushed him off the boat - I sure would have. They have a couple more contentious encounters before they decide to meet privately to talk. I loved the way that meeting started - nothing like getting your feelings off your chest right at the start. By this point, both of them realized that what was between them twelve years earlier had not died after all, and both were pretty freaked out by the idea. Neither one wants to risk their heart again, plus there's the whole matter of working on opposite coasts. No matter what they do, they can't seem to stay away from each other, and the feelings between them continue to grow. There are quite a few internal debates where they remind themselves that it's a bad idea, but that doesn't stop them.

There were some pretty terrific scenes between them as each opened up about their lives since they've been apart. I also liked seeing Wendy with Cassie, and how well they get along. But both Wendy and Ethan were chained by their fears. Neither one was willing to risk rejection by being the first to confess their feelings, which put them on a course to being separated again. I ached for them both when duty called. It took a kind of "tough love" from Ethan's grandmother to make him see the light, but he came through with flying colors. I loved his big moment at the end.

I really liked Ethan's daughter Cassie. She is a sweet girl who has not had an easy life. Besides losing her mother at a young age, Cassie suffers from a debilitating disease. She has been through multiple surgeries, with more in her future, but she manages to keep an upbeat attitude. I liked how she connected with Wendy. There was a surprising twist in what she knew about her dad's relationship with Wendy, one that made me ache a bit for her and her mother.

There were several secondary stories going on also. First was what was happening with Wendy's SEAL teammates. They were all fighting the blues from their last mission and talked about their holiday plans. Included in those plans was the idea of checking out a treasure hunting business that was up for sale (see the Jinx series). That morphed into most of them deciding to join Wendy in Bell Sound. I loved the arrival of the SEALs, perfectly timed to give Ethan a taste of the green-eyed monster. The SEALs tentative plans got a boost when they ran into an issue that the town had. I loved seeing more of these guys, as they are some of my favorites from previous series. I can't wait to see them get stories of their own.

Bell Sound got its name from the bell-making factory that has called the town its home for a long time. But the business is in danger of closing down due to dwindling orders for their specialized bells. The town doesn't want to lose the factory or the history behind it. When the owner, the last of the family, came to town to investigate his options, the townspeople were determined to show him its importance. There were some interesting interactions between Gabe and Laura, the newspaper editor, over the fate of the business and other properties. I liked seeing the creativity that came up with an excellent solution. The Grinch contest was a hilarious method of raising needed funds for the city as well as bringing an influx of tourists.

There were also some hilarious goings-on involving Wendy's aunt Mildred. She has been living in Wendy's house and caring for it. Mildred was somewhat lonely and always kind-hearted, and over the last several years has invited various senior citizens to live there with her. The current crop includes Raul, a somewhat younger Spanish man who is also a dancer. He and Mildred are quite an interesting pair. The others are a lively mix, and their interactions are always amusing. They go beyond amusing to hilarious when the SEALs arrive. I loved the bonding among the elders and the SEALs and the obvious respect they have for each other.

When she gets a short break after one of her missions, Wendy Patterson – a WEALS, a female Navy SEAL – decides it’s time to go back home and decide what to do with her house, currently occupied by her Aunt Millie. Unfortunately going back to Bell Cove also means having to see Ethan Ruthledge, whom she hadn’t seen in twelve years when she left town. Ethan has been shanghaied on the town council: money is needed for various projects, and Ethan is being such a grouch that his friend Laura of the local newspaper proposes they hold a contest for the Bell Cove’s biggest grinch, and nominates Ethan. But they were not prepared for the attraction that still lingered after all that time away from each other.

Sandra Hill’s wacky sense of humour is legendary, as are her colourful and often over-the-top characters and plots, but the has managed to tone down her outrageousness, while losing none of her wit, and THE FOREVER CHRISTMAS TREE turns out to be one of her best novels. This being the first book in a new series, the author introduces us to the town and the many, many characters in such a way, that in the first chapters when nothing had really happened, I was laughing myself silly while getting acquainted with everyone. The “local grinch” contest was a brilliant idea, it was very funny, and did not unfold as I expected. All the characters are wonderfully fleshed out, and some of the stand-outs are definitely Millie, Cassie, and “JAM” and “Geek” – two SEALs, friends of Wendy’s. The latter whose invention I hope to hear more about in the future.

While there is some zaniness going on, Ms. Hill’s storytelling skills shine like never before, and the dialogues are outstanding. I really liked those people and their town: apart from the SEALs and WEALS, they are mostly ordinary people, it’s life and it’s great! I loved that Ethan and Wendy addressed their situation like rational adults, and that the rekindling of their romance took its own sweet time. Only one thing bothered me: given the abundance of details about everything and everyone, the reason for Wendy and Ethan’s estrangement was never fully explained; they know, but we don’t, and I feel it was important that we also got the whole story. THE FOREVER CHRISTMAS TREE is a terrific second chance romance, a great debut to a new series that could last a very, very long time, and a delightful Christmas story. If you have never read Sandra Hill, THE FOREVER CHRISTMAS TREE is an excellent place to start!

A wonderful Christmas romance with a Grinch contest. That was a fun idea. I loved that a fundraiser turned out to be a fun filled event. Everyone in Bell Cove joined in and dressed up for the cause. Love is everlasting even when you thought it ended. Wendy and Ethan were sweethearts for many years. A mistake got in the way of their happiness. 12 years later Wendy comes back to find out Ethan didn't become a Veterinarian like he wished for. Wendy's life didn't turn out like she wanted neither. She didn't end up a doctor like her father, but became a Navy SEAL. This book really brought the whole Bell Cove town together as a family and love persevered. Christmas is a time to reflect, enjoy, have fun, spend time with love ones. I can't forget the hot SEAL's in this novel. Who can resist, I sure can't! Great read for Christmas!

I adore Sandra Hill's books however The Forever Christmas Tree had me conflicted. As others have said, I loved the town and all it's nosiness. Too funny. There were, however, some pretty mean-spirited characters, more so than I think you would find in a small community. I also had trouble getting past the long ago reasons for the break up of the main characters, Ethan Rutledge and Wendy Patterson. I found Wendy far too inflexible for my taste; I'm the sort of reader who doesn't automatically assume the female is always right. Ethan was a typical "boy", even now, but if these two would just talk to one another... I guess there wouldn't be a story if that happened. It was a good read, certainly a start to what I think will be more books from this town, and I'll read book two when it comes out.

I feel like this could have been fairly good if it had been properly edited. But since I don't think it was, I'm just going to quote one of the characters from the book to sum up my feelings: "You two remind me of a bad romance novel."

Apart from the fact that Ethan, the male lead, was in general pretty badly written, the first half of The Forever Christmas Tree was still alright - there were only minor things that bothered me, mostly relating to the endless re-introduction of characters we had met several times already.

When the actual romance (and especially the sex) came around, however, it got unbearable. I haven't read such cringy sex scenes since I stumbled across self-insert fanfiction by 14-year-olds. The inner monologues made me throw up in my mouth a bit and I am so glad I could skim some of those scenes. Yuck. So yes, these characters were indeed part of a bad romance novel.

I was hoping to enjoy this book. Wendy Patterson and Ethan Rutledge loved each other since they were kids. 18 year old Ethan so in love with Wendy but gets mad at her one night for having other plans. He loved her so fiercely that he got drunk and had unprotected sex with Beth Anne. Doesn't tell her about his actions until Beth Anne comes to him pregnant. He decided to come clean with the love of his life Wendy. Expects Wendy to be ok with him marrying Beth Anne to give the baby a name. What? Dumb. Move Beth Anne into his parents house. And still be with Wendy. Wendy rightfully so leaves town heartbroken. She returns 12 years later still angry and hurt. Ethan is now a widow. For some Godforsaken reason he stayed married to Beth Anne. Loved her but was never in love with her. Beth Anne knew he never was in love with her and always loved Wendy. The entire back story was completely idiotic. They made Beth Anne out to be a quite library type good Catholic girl. But hey she has sex with Ethan one night. Clearly he had a girlfriend for years. Ethan is so in love with Wendy buy gets angry, drunk, and cheats on her. 12 years later after a short argument Ethan and Wendy make up. Wendy falls in love with Ethan daughter. Ethan and Wendy have sex. The author is sure to add he had a short affair with Bonita in the past. Who cares. Worthless information. Beth Anne was never thought of as a bad person. Ethan was never looked down upon for cheating on Wendy. They entire town thought all love was lost for everyone. If Ethan and Wendy can't make it nobody can. End of story. Ethan is a cheating dirtbag and Wendy is a doormat. Waste of time to read.

I was pretty excited to start a new series by Sandra Hill. I knew it would be good because I've enjoyed everything she's written so far. This new series seemed promising since it starts off with a Christmas story by one of my favorite authors.

Now even though this ones a new series it starts off with characters from a prior series. In fact Wendy's in that series. So this new series started out with the best of both worlds. Prior characters I enjoyed and a new series.

Since I already knew Wendy I knew I liked her. I also know the group of friends she has and love them. They added to this wonderful story.

Who I didn't know was Ethan and the people of Bell Sound. But right from the start I knew I needed to know more about them. This town seems so much fun to live in. I love their grinch contest. You really need to read the story to enjoy it.

As a whole this is a great story with people you'll just want to read about. It drags you into their lives and leaves you wanting more. My own problem with the story was how mad Ethan was with Wendy when everything was his fault. Period! I did forgive him because he was young but it took a bit.

The Forever Christmas Tree is full of humor, Christmas cheer and love for family and friends. The perfect holiday book to read!

I picked up this book expecting to read a sweet Hallmark type Christmas story. While I enjoyed the Carolina Outer Banks background and the dancing seniors, I had a hard time liking Ethan.

Ethan and Wendy were childhood sweethearts. Everyone in the small town of Bell Cove expected them to marry one day. One night Ethan got drunk and impregnated another girl, whom he married. Wendy was understandably upset and gave up her plans to become a doctor like her father and instead took off and became a Navy Seal (actually a WEAL, the female version of Seal).

The book begins with Wendy coming home to spend her Christmas leave with her Aunt Mildred. Four of her naval friends decide to come along, as they are mourning the death of one of their mates. Wendy runs into her ex and his daughter Cassie, who is in a wheelchair, on the ferry.

The problem I have with this book is that Ethan behaves like a total jerk. He actually blames Wendy for leaving him, and does not seem to understand or care how deeply he hurt her. Without really resolving anything verbally, He kisses her and before too long they end up in bed. There is nothing sweet or romantic here. The author is rude and crude in describing their sexual encounter. While I have no problem with what they are doing, I really do not need to know every single detail.

To me, this is not a sweet love story. It is a story of obsession and a powerful physical attraction. Nothing romantic about it all all.

I probably should have DNFed this one...still not sure why I didn't.

Overall the book felt like it was trying really hard to be more than it was...and failing spectacularly. Neither of the main characters were terribly sympathetic, IMHO. Their inner dialogue drove me crazy, and the head-hopping just about gave me whiplash--I blame the writing here; these things might have worked, because I could see what the author was trying to do with them, but sadly they really didn't. Add in that there were way too many secondary characters to keep track of, and that the obvious attempts to set up future series books were extremely heavy-handed (yet still not enough to tempt me to pick up any of them).

Parts of the storyline felt unfinished (was something supposed to come of the journal that Cassie got her hands on?) and the HEA wasn't as satisfying as it should have been, since it really didn't convince me that Wendy and Ethan would be any better at communication this time around.

No. Just...no.

This had an interesting premise but the writing style was not at all engaging. This felt woefully date, despite being a contemporary written last year. The hero was not at all convincing, behaving like a caricature of a person with a dislike of Christmas. I also got annoyed with the WEALs thing; if it's real, it sounds great, but reading it copious amounts of time on the page was irritating. I also felt like the hero didn't have much of a leg to stand on about why the heroine left town 12 years ago. What a doofus. Overall, this was an easy DNF for me and I definitely won't be continuing with this series.

Fun, Fun, Fun

What a great Christmas romance, but the little town of Bell Cove with all its zany characters made this book a joy to read! It is a second chance romance, but felt so much more than that! I always enjoy Sandra Hill and have read most of her books, but I did truly love this one and hope we get more Bell Cove stories in the future.

I have really come to love Christmas romances the last couple of years, so I was really excited for this one. Wendy is going home to Bell Cove for the first time in twelve years, but is nervous about it. Things happened many years ago with a special someone and she's not sure how to handle that yet, even though she thinks he will be living somewhere else living his happily ever after.

Ethan's life turned out different than planned, but it gave him Cassie, that is something he would never change. His dreams did change though. Instead of becoming a veternarian he ended up taking over his father's company and enjoys it more than expected.

The wonderful thing about The Forever Christmas Tree is that it takes place in a small town that makes you feel right at home. Wendy's aunt has let people stay in their big house and by doing this created a nice community of her own. It's a small town so everyone knows everyone.

I loved the touch with the Grinch contest. That's one of my Christmas favorites. And all for charity right. The whole journey can be followed in the book and I loved all the characters we meet in this town, including Wendy's friends and colleagues.

The Forever Christmas Tree is not only told through Wendy and Ethan, but also her Aunt and even a chapter from Ethan's little girl. I loved that the author did this. It gave me a cozy feeling and it was nice that the romance wasn't the most important part of the book. The factory needed to be saved. Just like the romance, this wasn't the most important part, but we did see it solved.

Don't worry though, there is definitely romance. It's clear that Wendy and Ethan were meant to be and may even still be. I loved reading about their past, but them also dealing with each other again. But can it work out with Wendy leaving after the holidays?

The Forever Christmas Tree is also different in the sense that Wendy was the one who was a soldier and not Ethan. Women can be just as strong and Wendy definitely proves that. This book is filled with a lot of lovable characters who get into your heart and Bell Cove becomes a place you want to live.

I only gave this book four stars, because even though I got all the feelings I need from a Christmas romance, the happily ever after wasn't necessarily the Christmas one I want in a book like this. All in all, a Christmas romance that left me feeling warm and happy. I will definitely read the next books in this series!

I have never read a Sandra Hill book before, but when I read the synopsis for The Forever Christmas Tree, I knew I had to read it, and I have to say that after the first chapter it firmly had me gripped.

The story starts when Wendy return home to Bell Cove for the first time in 10 years, after she was back in the States after her latest mission for the WEALS (women's branch of the SEALS), but she is not coming alone, she is also bringing some of her fellow WEALS and SEALS with her, but as soon as she arrives back in Bell Cove, she sees the man that broke her heart and sent her running from Bell Cove 10 years ago, Ethan Rutledge.

Now I'm not going to spoil it by giving you any more details in this delish book! But I will say, that despite the fact you are in the Outer Banks, there will be 100% chance of Grinch sightings, orange spray tans, wild aunts and tons of dancing!

This book is magnificent! To say I loved it is just too mild! To say this book it truly everything! Is more precise! To say Aunt Mildred is 100% my life goals is also 100% accurate! Every character in this book feels like a long lost friend, the writing is superb and the plotline is fantastic!

There is one part that I'm curious to know! Is there really such thing as a Navy WEAL? That is one detail that I really would like an answer for.

Now when it comes to scoring this books, there is only one score I can give The Forever Christmas Tree, and that is 5 stars!

I really enjoyed this book of second chances. There were equal parts humor, lol moments, heartbreak, betrayal and ultimately ❤.

Ethan, a xmas 🎄 farmer , was burned once in love 12 years ago. Now, a father, he has picked up the pieces of his heartbreak 💔 and is trying to move forward in his life. Wendy, a navy WEALS has decided to come back to her hometown of bell cove, outer banks, North Carolina to spend the holidays. For 12 years she has stayed away. Now she's back and face to face once again with Ethan, the man who broke her heart once.

This is a really unique storyline. Wendy coming back to the outer banks to a house full of senior citizens, a grinch contest, the magic of xmas, Ethan, his daughter, their still 🔥 chemistry. I really love all the quirkiness of each secondary characters. There were so many fun moments. The light banter between the characters. I must say the author do have a way with words. Also there couldn't have been a more perfect location than the outer banks. One of my favorite spots with their lighthouse, the sand, the 🌊. Reading this book transported me back to the times I was there. I can only imagine how ❄ looks on sand. And all the magic, decorations and trappings of a little Christmas town makes for a truly wonderful Christmas story.

I just finished this book and its another winner from Sandra Hill. The Forever Christmas Tree takes place for the most part at the Outer Banks, NC. Having vacationed there several times over the years it was refreshing to read about a place that held such great memories for me. The story is engaging and the charactors well defined. I think one of Ms. Hill's hallmarks is her characters - after reading the Viking/SEAL and Navy SEAL books I would know JAM, Geek or K-4 if I bumped into them on the street. Having read the previous books starring these Navy SEALS you are rewarded by seeing them in a totally different environment - no tangos to kill just tangos to dance with some geriatric partners. Ms. Hill tells the story of second chance love - will the chance be acted on? This is a great book for the holidays (it takes place during Christmas in the OBX) OR an excellent beach read. I highly reccomend taking a chance on Ms. Hill's latest book - I wasn't dissappointed and I doubt you will be either!!

2.5 stars, and definitely better than a lot of my two star rated books, but I just can’t round up. It’s just so incredibly hokey. Sometimes endearingly hokey, but mostly cringey hokey.
Firstly the heroine is a Navy Seal, but not actually a Navy Seal, but in the women’s version of the Seals. They go on the same missions as the men, but are a separate group. This whole thing reeks of “separate but equal” and I just can’t with that.
Secondly the home town in the Outer Banks makes Mayberry look like Compton. The townsfolk, the bell factory (a bell factory!) is just too much.
Thirdly the second chance relationship was hard to believe. He knocked up another woman, married her but didn’t “really” love her, and then she conveniently dies. Honestly the daughter was my favourite character because she seemed the most real.
I know Sandra Hill books are cheesy, but this was too over the top from me.

Hmm. Probably a 3.5. As usual from this author the story is very well written and quite entertaining, but as a romance I thought it was really lacking. This is a book with a really large ensemble cast of characters - which means you have to have your wits about you reading it and placing all the people. This book is obviously setting up a series to give our remaining navy weals and seals (from Viking series II) a conclusion and a HEA - which is excellent of course, as I loved that series.

All I can say is that I had no trouble putting it down and I didn't really care about the H/h too much. Lots of inner musings in italics from both of them. Sad to say I kept waiting for Viking jokes... Never mind. I will always read what this author writes and hopefully the next book can concentrate more on the main characters.

I love to read books by Sandra Hill and this was no exception. She has such a way describing the town and the people that you just know them personally. Ethan Rutledge of the Rutledge Christmas tree fame was about to get appointed the Grinch award of Bell Cove and he really didn't know why except he always seemed to be mad. His first and true love, Wendy, had left town when he had made the mistake of his life but to him, it wasn't a mistake because he had a lovely daughter. When Wendy returned to Bell Cove after twelve years, fireworks started again between them but she had also returned with a group of her SEAL buddies and the single ladies was very happy. Could Wendy and Ethan start that fire back up that had long gone out before Wendy had to return to California to her job? Fun book to read.

If you love Debbie Macomber, Robyn Carr or Sherryl Woods, you will LOVE this Christmas story!
Ethan and Wendy were high School Sweethearts until he went to a party one night, got drunk, slept with someone else and, you know the rest. Wendy was so devastated by everything that happened that she moved away, for 12 years! Now that she's back, they both realize that the steamy attraction never ended. Problem is that, Wendy has decided long ago that she will NEVER allow herself to open up to Ethan again!
This is the type of story that makes you want to sit in a comfy chair in front of a fire with a cup of hot chocolate!!!

2nd chance at love for Weal ( female SEAL) and her first and only love. They broke each other’s hearts when he got drunk and got another girl pregnant on a one night stand and she ran off without a word to join he military. She’s back for r and r wit her seal buddies. He never left and is raising his 12 year old daughter with the help of his aunt. Will they give Love another chance or is it too much ti forgive or trust one another?
Some explicit sex
+ set in beautiful outer banks of NC or outer bkx
Beautiful and strong navy seal women

This was an enjoyable Christmas second chance romance novel. Ethan Rutledge and Wendy Patterson were sweethearts twelve years ago when Ethan, at a drinking party, had a one night stand that resulted in a pregnancy and Wendy leaving town. Back for the first time since that summer, Wendy runs into the widowed Ethan and sparks fly. This novel introduces a cast of characters that I expect to see in this new series Bell Sound.
