When bartender Jake Steele finds a portal in an abandoned building, he does what any bored guy would do – he walks through it.
He finds himself in a game-like world where his life is measured in stats and his violence is rewarded with experience points. Under the tutelage of an animal-butchering, whore-loving master, he learns to become an alchemist.
He used to mix drinks, but from now on he’s going to be mixing things that are far deadlier.
This was a fun read. The way the book comes full circle is crazy as hell, but it's still a pretty good read. Plot is, guy had tagic thing happen to him, scars him, and then he ends up pretty much just stopping in life. Is searching around an old building and falls into a "game" world. As time goes on, he starts to learn more and more about himself and what he's capable of doing. I'm going to stop there because there are some pretty good plot twist in the story.
Ok the book was ok not great but ok. The author does not do a very good job of making the litrpg part of the story understandable and develop in a way that makes sense. It almost seems like it was just random numbers assigned.
That was as far as I could go. If you plan to choke someone with a role you WILL be with in arms reach. I could forgive that though. However this reads like it was written by a young teen who's mom wasn't around to correct his language. The conversations between characters was full of insult and just flat out unbelievable. Nobody talks like that to people they just meet, specifically ones they are asking for help from. The action is flat and can only be believable if you are on LSD. I wanted to give this book a chance, but it is to childish for me to enjoy. I can't recommend this book.
I was given an audible coupon code for this book ages ago and for some reason I was convinced the code hadn't worked. Finally, uninstalling and reinstalling Audible made the book show up and I only now got around to listening to it.
The story is about an aimless young man with some kind of SECRET PAIN (that we don't really care about or find out about until the end), who is blowing off education and responsibility after his folks die. He hangs out in his uncle's abandoned house while finishing off high school and basically grows the worst possible mustache as a full-time career when he's not breaking and entering for the lols.
During one of his B&Es, he accidentally steps through a portal and into ADVENTURE, but the adventure is pretty limited to hanging out with a bunch of buddies, getting drunk a lot, and going on some pointless side-adventures.
If you're reading this book for the plot, you're doing it wrong. Instead, just hang around with these loudspoken sarcastic idiots and enjoy the ride like I did. It's fun and it doesn't need to be more than that.
Steele Alchemist is a silly unmemorable bit of isekai fluff. It's light on plot, all its characters are interchangable, and it will not win awards for its poetic written voice or anything. That said, I liked it (Goodreads system, three stars). It made me laugh, it entertained, and was a fine (and hilariously vulgar) companion for the treadmill while trapped by the COVIDs shutdowns.
Wow, the dialogue in this book was full of crassness, sexual perverse innuendo, massive insults and all the while trying to make it seem like they were buddies. It was a dreary, depressing world with the MC not very likeable and gag worthy creatures like cock imps. Yes, I am totally serious. There were imps running around naked with their cocks swinging in the wind. One was even trained to do a sexy dance when the word AND was spoken. What the heck? The leveling up started out okay and then turned weird. He developed some skills that were just gross and started developing them exclusively and ignoring basic power leveling. If there is a sequel I'm running far from it. Read at your own peril.
If you are looking for a light-hearted quick read, look no further. Jake has been living in a fugue since his parents died until in his quest for adrenaline, he came across a warehouse with a door-sized rectangle. He found all the adventure he sought after having found the courage to step through. Multiple editing errors took away some of the reading enjoyment, hence the three stars. However, looking forward to the nexr instalment.
Normal dialog is full of crude references. If you removed the crude or sexual references there wouldn't be enough left to fill a children's book.
I like the premise, but this isn't worth my time. I read about a quarter of the book and had enough. I've tried not to be negative, but I feel like this book had wasted my time.
I couldn't finish it. The main character never seems to come up or be very creative with innovative things. Plus, I got really tired of reading about cocks and balls. I wish the author had spent more time creating more mystical and amazing landscapes and situations but it seems like he kept getting stuck on cocks, and balls.
This book had the possibility of being very good. Unfortunately, the author seems to think the reader wants to submerge into sexually blatant language, foulness of speech, and constant verbiage that detracts from the storyline. I continue to be amazed that the LitRPG genre desires foul language as the medium through which the story is related. Not worth the read.
Ok so I have listened to some strange and alot of erotic books but this one takes the cake. The author is strangely focused on man parts after the mc makes it to the fantasy world every other sentence is about a cock I feel like I need to wash my ears out I came here for the litrpg and alchemy but instead got a twisted version of perverted fantasy dnf
This was more fantasy than lit-RPGs. Still a fun read. The crass uncle moves it from an everyone book to a teen and up. It's not bad, but you would not want to read it out loud in English class. Or many you would, who am I to judge.
Have you ever wanted to find a doorway to another world, go through, wander around for a while, then randomly apprentice yourself to the first guy you find? No?
Ah, but do you want to read about a guy who does? #pertinent-questions
I enjoyed how this book was written. Until the next book I cannot wait. I hope his other Earth friend becomes the new tank or something use for their party
I liked this one well enough. It was well done, and if there are more, I wouldn't object to reading them, though this one didn't grab me like some of the other LitRPG books did, so if there aren't anymore (as appears to be the case), it won't be all that disappointing. If you like LitRPG, this story isn't a bad one, if you like adventure, this one is ok too. If you're looking for complex plots, complicated world building or in depth game mechanics, this isn't the book for you. It's a decent read, and you won't be disappointed if you like good storytelling, but I doubt it will win any awards.
I like this book a lot. Not only did it flow super well but its story was not too long or short. It was a great find and a real classic book with its own twist that make it the best book iv read In a while. I how everyone has as much fun as I did reading it.
