Hi book!

*smiles shyly and winks*

Oh what a sweet and glorious out-for-you book this was! I adored the crap out of it. I mean, what's not to love?! A simple love story with a slow burn romance and a fabulous audiobook narrator to boot? Just perfection.

I was so addicted to this audiobook that I listened to the entire thing in 24 hours. That is 6 hours and 5 minutes of listening or 1/4 of my day. Dedication, folks! I listened driving to work, between patients, on my entire 1.5 hour lunch break (the lady at the diner called my name about 10 times before I heard her!), while doing dishes, and while exercising. I only didn't listen when I was sleeping (duh) and with my kids/husband. The narration was really excellent, with a wide range of distinct voices, tons of emotion, and lots of energy.

The story was just an awesome OFY and a great one to read, both if you are a fan of GFY (ME!!!) and not a fan of GFY because the way Matt's sexuality was shown was incredibly believable. This book was also so romantic. It was a LOVE story, with sole focus on the development of a relationship from a seed of attraction to full blown lurve.

A little warning for those that can't stand any sort of cheating: Matt has a girlfriend at the start of this book (mentioned in the blurb) so if that bothers you, be forewarned. I am not a huge fan of cheaters but here it was done in a way that I didn't find offensive.

Excellent sexual tension, hot love scenes....

*blissful sigh*

This was definitely better than good.
description

This was outstanding!! I'm truly surprised by how touched and happy I am by this sweet read. From the lovable and amusing characters...to the new and fragile love they share. I was simply enchanted by this delightful story.
description

Matt aka Matty, is straight and has a girlfriend. His priorities are set to graduate, become a lawyer and move on to bigger dreams. But things change for Matt...from a simple glance and an instant attraction he feel towards a stranger. He never imagined that a simple trip to a gay club, with a friend, could change everything so quickly.
description

Aaron is a ball of energy and the center of everyone's attention. His quirky, funny and... proud to be gay. Aaron won't hide who he is or change for anyone. Not even for the gorgeous Matty...who is yet to understand what he wants, and whether this attraction is simply curiosity.
description

The two form a friendship, a passionate bond...that flourishes into a deep and yet hesitant relationship .
I had never felt so connected and one with a partner. A wave of feeling, so strong I was weak with it, made me wonder why everything was so much better with Aaron.
Its hard for Aaron to accept that Matty is ready to truly be 'out' and open with him. And Matty, though eager to start this new found journey with Aaron...still carries unresolved baggage, that may come between them.

I was like a drowning man who'd found safety on familiar shore at long last.

Mates a lovely story about new beginnings and unexpected love. I recommend this beautiful story and hope you get the chance to try out this better than good read xx

“The real truth, Curt, is that I want whatever label makes it so that I get to be the guy he calls first for any and every thing. I want to be someone to him. Does that make any sense at all?”

“You’re serious? Are you in love with him or something?”

“Why do you go straight to the L-word? It’s too soon to say shit like that. And I sure as fuck don’t want to scare him away. But man, Curt. I can’t breathe around him sometimes. I just want to stare at him. He’s so fucking beautiful. And he’s funny and sweet. I love his laugh and yeah, I love being with him. That’s all I got right now.”

“That’s a lot, man. More than most.”

My next attempt with Lane Hayes may not have been Better Than Good, but it was still most certainly good. 😊 I know this is a romance, but the parts that I highlighted more of and what shined for me the most were the moments when Matt slowly understood what his feelings for Aaron meant and how he wanted to express himself. 🥺🥺

Matt's steady realization of his own bisexuality and coming to terms with it was shown with a real sense of honest conviction, that those scenes were more impactful than the actual romance, itself. Yes, it was his feelings for Aaron that made him feel this way, but it wasn't the sexy times that stood out - it was the efforts he took to prove himself worthy - the way he tried to explain his feelings to be true - that made this an interesting read. 🩷🩷🩷

“I don’t want a woman or another man. I only want you. Neither of us knows what the future holds, but when I think about the future, I want you in mine.

Remember when you said that there are no guarantees, but you want something that feels like the real thing. You are that to me.”

Aaron is out and he's proud of it. He's the kind of person that leaves you wanting more - that they know more about you than you let on and he's not afraid to say what it is. He's flamboyant and fashionable and he's not ashamed of being the gay person, but he's still vulnerable enough to know that he does not want the person that he lets into his heart to be ashamed of being with him. He doesn't want to be second best to someone's feelings, he wants to be loved for who he is. And even though, he is hesitant about how much Matt wants him - second guessing his good intentions, Matt slowly wins him back - proving to him that what he feels for him is real - that he is willing to take the plunge with him. 🫶🏻

“I couldn’t say the words, but I hoped he would get the message through the music.

“It’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside….”

I didn’t look at him until I finished the last line. He had a tear in his eye. He did understand.

I set my guitar aside, reached for him, and pulled him close to me. I just wanted to hold him, smell him, feel him. Yeah, “this feeling inside.”

Whatever it was, it felt pretty fucking powerful.”

🥹🥹🥹

What made watching Matt slowly adjust to his change of emotions so special was that while he was afraid of outing himself, he was afraid of losing Aaron more. And in an ill-time encounter that made Aaron question his level of commitment towards him, Matt did everything in his power to prove his love was worth the time - that he really was in this for the long haul. It was not so much groveling, but reaffirming something that he has been trying and failing to convey from the start - that he did love Aaron - no matter what.

“Love is scary. And it’s a fucking leap. Excuse my French.”

Since I haven't read much else from Lane Hayes yet, I can't say for sure if the side characters mentioned here were from her other works, but I liked them. When Matt finally had the courage to come out to his own roommates, I liked how they reacted and how the topic was addressed. I loved how supportive both sides of their friends were - how Matt's friends initial reaction was first shock, but slowly delved into trying to understand his change of heart. 🤍🤍 That it was portrayed as something as simple as a casual admittance - almost anti-climatic - that they did not make a big deal out of it - made Matt braver to act upon his feelings. Aaron's friends also rose to the occasion to help Matt win Aaron back, albeit with the obligatory 'hurt him, you die' talk, which further fueled Matt's determination that Aaron was worth it. ☺️☺️

“I’m afraid. I’m afraid that you’ll decide you want to be with a woman. That you want a wife, kids, dog, house in the suburbs… things I can’t give you.

“The rest we take one day at a time, okay? I don’t want a wife, kids, and dog with a house in the suburbs tomorrow.”

He shot me an angry look and scooted away from me. I grabbed him back and pulled him onto my
lap, tickling his side.

“What I mean is that I don’t want any of those things right away and…. Listen! Are you listening?”

He nodded slowly, still not looking at me. “Who’s to say it can’t be a husband, kids, dog, and an apartment in the city?”

🫠🫠🫠

I know, some might find it odd how readily Matt was willing to admit in his change of heart - but, I didn't mind it. I actually loved the frankness that he adopted - that what made it so different to love someone just because of gender difference. And once he was gung-ho that Aaron was the only one he wanted - he did try, and I really do applaud his efforts for doing his utmost to prove his commitment and affection.

My only grievance would have to be with the writing - I wasn't entirely sold on it. There were a few instances, where there were just paragraphs of conversations, rather than the dialogue that consisted of the conversation, itself. I know it would have made the story a lot longer than what it was, but it could have added a finer layer to the plot. But, it's funny that despite my issues, there were still so many parts that I highlighted! 😅 So, I guess it's safe to say that when the time is right, I may just return to Lane Hayes - hopefully, a little earlier than a six month gap - to see what else she has to offer. 💕💕

5 BETTER THAN GOOD stars for this SWEET story

I already mentioned in another review that I LOVE Lane Hayes. Her writing style is one of my favorites! So besides A kind of stories, I wanted to try some of her other books. The Better Than series was recommended to me by my sweet friend, Book Faerie, and as expected, I loved each and every word.

This story was HOT and SWEET in the same time! The chemistry is great and both guys were really hot.

Matt is a 24 years old law student, with a girlfriend. But one night, when he was dancing in a gay club while he was out with friends, he is mesmerized by a beautiful man, Aaron.

Aaron is a 28 years old Puerto Rican gay man, out and proud. But he had many bad experiences in the past and he is done with half measures. Now he was afraid to give Matt a chance, knowing he had a girlfriend and he might be only a fling for him. He didn't want to get hurt again.

I absolutely love all MM books, especially GFY (gay-for-you) stories. I think it takes something very powerful and special to fall for a man and give in for the first time. This book seemed more like a OFY (out-for-you) because Matt had already been with a man before, but he fell in love only with Aaron.

This story melted my heart! Thanks to this author's great talent, I could picture this hot couple right before my eyes: running in the rain, having romantic dinners and Matt singing "Your song" by Elton John to Aaron. This is one of my favorites love songs.

"My gift is my song
And this one's for you.

I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world."

4.5--Better Than Good--Stars!

Dare I say....even GREAT!

This book made me so happy!

It was just so romantical...

I loved the development of Aaron and Matty's relationship.

Matt is the stereotypical jock. He's in law school, straight, lives with 2 other guys. But has a gay friend. It's while he's out at a gay club that Matt meets Aaron.

Matt is immediately attracted to Aaron. But Aaron has a girlfriend.

So yes, be warned...for those that are against cheating. Nothing really happens between Aaron and Matt until after Matt breaks up with his girlfriend so it didn't bother me.

Aaron is out and proud where as Matt is struggling with these new feelings. He's experimented with guys in the past but has been with women consistently, never feeling fulfilled but not really sure why.

For those of you that aren't a fan of GFY...

(Kidding)...I'd say this one is really more OFY. I would classify Matt as bi-sexual. He has been with another man, but just hasn't met another man since that he's been interested in.

I pretty much fell in love with Matt and Aaron from the get-go. And I loved watching their relationship grow and develop.

Aaron willing to give Matt a chance...

...and Matt navigating his first real relationship with a man.

This one was sweet, sexy (though it could have been sexier and therefore I had to give a .5 deduction for the fade to black scenes) and it made me smile. Perfect MM read for those newbies out there or those like me that love the genre!

I really hope people don't dismiss this because its GFY, if they do then they're missing out on a real treat. I loved this sweet, romantic story. If any GFY book gets it right, its this one. What impressed me was that never once did I suspend belief in Matts transition from being " straight" and having a girlfriend to the Matt, who becomes enchanted with the beautiful Aaron, from the moment he sees him on the dance floor of a gay club he visits with his gay friend Curt.

Lane Hayes has got this just right. There's no real major angst in this but there are the right concerns from both parties what bit that does occur is pitched perfectly and is exactly what you would expect as these two guys get to know each other over the course of the book . I loved that there was no over the top soul searching with silly misunderstandings that in Real Life would never happen because in RL most people are savvy enough to not jump to the most stupid eye rolling conclusions. No, in this story each question you ask yourself about could a relationship like this really make it, is answered for you so by the end you end up truly believing that these two will make it.

Of course as a m/m romance it also has all the things what you want, which is great chemistry and sexual tension, perfect love scenes, a lovely romance and two totally endearing MC's who personally made me fall in heart with them from the word go. Aaron is openly gay, gorgeous, loveable and quirky but at the time smart and funny and Matt is just adorable in his pursuit of him but not in a silly stalkerish way. I loved this and will definitely read it again. Keeper written all over it and a totally feel good experience.

Simple, sweet and just effing great! I needed Matt. He's great and Aaron is fabulous, tho he never let Matt explain himself thoroughly. This author did such a wonderful job. <3

And I love that Matt had already had a gay experience so his acceptance of his bisexuality was rather easy. IDK why people keep billin at as GFY. Matt totally admits his attraction to other men. Just sayin...

For the most part, this story is a wonderful "out-for-you" story. But I just can't get rid my discomfort with the set up. I will point out what I loved about it first.

Like what other reviewers have said, the attraction was instant, right from the first time straight (or bi, if you want to go with label) Matt met the out and proud and beautiful Aaron at a gay bar. However, there was an actual progress from than moment on. Matt couldn't stop thinking about Aaron, and he contemplated about being with a man for the very first time.

I loved how Aaron also wanted to go slow with their relationship because he had enough of being with men who were in the closet. Though the activities they did as "friends" were definitely in the "boyfriends" territory *grin*. There was a good chemistry between the two and I loved every single moments they were together (paddleboats! going to Ford's theatre!), or the time spent with Aaron's friends.

I also enjoyed Matt's voice as he embraced this new relationship -- including that time when he freaked out when his ex-girlfriend met Aaron for the first time. Nothing felt too over the top, even if Aaron or Matt's friend, Curt, told Matt that he could be such drama queen. I felt grateful that there wasn't unnecessary drama to drag down plot; no homophobic friends or evil ex-girlfriend. It was lovely.

Having said that, for the first 1/4 part, I felt uncomfortable. Look, I'm not saying that cheating is a deal-breaker in my fiction but I guess I prefer to have it 'behind the screen'. Reading how before Matt broken up his relationship with the girlfriend, right there on the pages, made me all uneasy. It wasn't fair for the girlfriend, even if there wasn't any fireworks anymore between the two.

That, and the use of "baby" as endearment (which I deleted/changed when I read this, thank you very much! Dear authors, there are OTHER endearments you can use!!!), made me deduct the rating.

But in overall, I think of this can be on my 4-stars category.

Better Than Good is book one in the Better Than series by Lane Hayes. I have the box set of this series and it has been sitting on my Kindle for awhile now waiting for me. I finally decided it was time. I wanted to be able to completely focus on it without anything else getting in the way. I’m already in love!

Matt Sullivan is twenty four years old and is a senior in law school at Georgetown in Washington DC. He is also interning during his last year at a nearby prestigious law firm where he hopes to work full time after graduation. Matt shares an apartment with two roommates, one straight and one gay. The night his entire life changed was a night when his roommate dragged them all to one of his favorite gay bars. That’s when he first saw him. He was completely overwhelmed by his beauty. He’d never reacted this way before to a man. He considered himself straight, or mostly straight. But he couldn’t take his eyes off him.

Aaron Mendez is twenty eight years old and works as a photographer’s assistant for a small publication. Aaron is out and proud and doesn’t hide a bit of his amazing self from anyone. He’s a bit flamboyant, he loves fashion and he loves to talk. He couldn’t help but to notice Matt that night and they shared something special on the dance floor. When they run into each other again, the attraction is even stronger. But Matt is straight, maybe curious, maybe wanting to experiment, and that was not for Aaron. He wasn’t someone’s temporary plaything.

The entire book is told from Matt’s point of view. He was so befuddled with his reaction to Aaron. But he knew that he needed to figure it out, needed to follow it through. Because he knew that Aaron was going to be important to him.

I fell so in love with these two. They took things slow at first, with Matt needing to settle things in his own life before he could pursue Aaron. But pursue he does. Was their path easy, no it wasn’t. Matt has not only the stress of his final year of law school, but these feelings he is feeling are new and scary. He’s never felt anything so strong for anyone before. And Aaron is trying to protect himself because he’s sure that Matt will tire of him and want to return to women at some point. It’s a quick read and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what happened next for these two.

Next, I’m taking a break from the box set and opting for more of Matt and Aaron in a book of shorts that starts where this book lets off, giving us more of these two with little snippets into their future. It’s called Better Than Beginnings.

For more about this book and so many others, come and visit me at Carol's Crazy Bookish World.

***** Lane Hayes gives us amazing characters ! *****

Matt, tall, handsome law student, and sports fan,

is rendered speechless by small, slim, sweet,
Aaron, a femme, beautiful man of Puerto Rican decent.

They are so opposite ! One thing they do have in common is running, so that comes in handy. Aaron is sassy, sexy, out-and-proud, with eyeliner and lip gloss. Matt, nose to the grindstone hard worker, is ready to explore his "bi" tendencies with Aaron. With his thrill for life's delights, cooking, and photography, Aaron just bubbles with energy.

Matt's life has been pretty normal, but Aaron's had it tougher with his Dad's disapproval, and just the hard times gay life can bring. He and Matt begin a friendship after Matt dumps his so-called girlfriend. The time span is over a year or so, no rushing, no instant love, and Aaron is honest and upfront that he is "out"- so take him the way he is or don't call. Matt struggles more than necessary with his feelings, because once he admits them, he is free. These guys are so different, but click together like Legos. Wonderful family and friends, an interesting story line that flows well and keeps our attention,

plus their sex is sizzling hot. Wow !

After he screws up, Matt has a plan to prove to Aaron he is serious and "in love".
Highly recommend this beautiful story of proof that two opposites CAN attract. This tale stands alone in the series.
ENJOY !!!!

2 stars ⭐️ I went into this book knowing that this would be either 2 stars or 3 stars read for me considering my taste, and I was right.

Matt was boring, while Aaron was just meh. Their chemistry and my connection to both characters felt bland and flat. I couldn't feel Aaron. He wasn't for my taste. I wasn't emotionally attached to both guys.

About the story, it was boring too. It was like reading a diary or something. It didn't help that the story was told from only Matt’s POV. There wasn't any drama, conflicts, or anything, and then there was a lot of eye-rolling going on on my side.

Overall, this was an easy and simple gfy love story, which is one of the fav tropes that I could read forever!

Dear DSP, would you consider reminder emails for your loyal customers that pre-order your books, you know, saying dear you, your pre-ordered book is waiting on your bookshelf . :)
Ps Samhain does it. :P

Just a thought, that I will keep mentioning.

Matt is straight, Aaron is not.
Yet, they are both attracted to each other, and find it hard to stay away.
I liked both of these guys and the pace was nice and believable, I did really miss Aaron's POV though. It's all told from Matt's, and Matt is totally and completely smitten with Aaron and definitely sees him in a very good light.
I wasn't always sure why Aaron did the things he did and what he was really thinking and I would have liked too.
But all in all this was a sweet read.

So....I figured I would read this one before continuing with better than safe. I really liked this one, it was really sweet and I loved Aaron and Matt together. I'm a real sucker for gfy stories ;)

There were some things I was a bit dissapointed about however. First of all...the steam. I would have liked a bit more steam and a bit less fade to black. That's not to day that there wasn't any steam, but a lot of it was hinted at, bit not described. I like my details people !!!!

I also would have liked for Matt to be the bottom, but I like versatile men, so that's a personal preference ;)

The lack of epilogue pissed me off. If I'm invested in a story...I want to know how everything works out. I wanted to read about Aaron meeting Matts roommates. I wanted to know how his parents would react to him coming out. This ending was way to abrupt and not satisfying at all !!!

Other than all that, this was a nice sweet and sexy little story, that I quite enjoyed. I will continue to follow this author.

4 stars from me !!!

I'm going to be super unoriginal and say the obvious: This really was "Better than Good"!

I don't have any complains about the plot, the characters, the execution or the editing. I liked everything and I'm going on to read every single one of the series' books which feature characters we met here (except from the last one I think but it doesn't matter, I want them all!).

Matt, or Matty, and Aaron were polar opposites. I think the only thing in common that they had was their attraction to each other. It's a wonder that they never ran out of things to talk about but then again that had a lot to do with Aaron's bubbly and bigger than life personality.

That was a seriously upbeat character. He had his down moments, and they were epic, but most of the time he was cheerful and the life of whatever place he was at. He was very intense in his reactions (it was either fly high near the sun or crawl under the earth and hide, there was no middle ground with him) and that was one of the qualities of his character that made him so interesting and endearing.

Matt was, the word that comes to mind is, stoic. He wasn't brooding or anything and he could hold a conversation just fine but most of the time he was a lot in his head. Thinking everything through and analysing what was happening around him. He could be spontaneous, especially when Aaron dragged him along, and he wasn't afraid to live his life but I think Aaron added a lot of light in his life.

As for the story itself it was very good. The pace of their relationship was realistic and it worked very well. Matt had to come to terms with the fact that for the first time in his life he wanted a real relationship and also that he wanted that said relationship with a man. He had to take some time to be ok with the changes in his life and come to terms with his new wants. Their relationship progressed slowly and through months of chance encounters and text messages and running sessions in the rain. It was very gratifying to see the slow but steady progress of their connection.

I liked that Matt was so sure of what he wanted and did what he had to do to get it. He had a minor setback - more like a freak out - near the end of the book but he got over it very quickly. The same can't be said for Aaron though so Matt had to do some groveling. It was pretty good actually!

Matt's feelings for Aaron were never in question. From the fist time he saw him it was apparent that something had changed inside him. Even when he had his minor freak out it was clear he didn't have second thoughts about their relationship. He was very in tune with himself and very decisive. He wanted something and he went for it. I really liked that he wanted to get it right and not rush anything. He wanted to get off on the right foot with his relationship with Aaron (once he decided that a relationship was what he wanted) and even if it took him longer he did just that.

Highly recommended read!

Nice book. The writing style took me a little getting used to but after reading 10% I couldn't put the book down anymore.
I don't like GFY stories at all, so I was first reluctant reading it. But this one is more an out-for-you romance. Matt has been together with a boy once a long time ago. So, no GFY, but a guy taking stock of himself, coming to terms with his bisexuality and meeting finally the right one.

Aaron is such a cute guy. He knows what he wants. He's out and proud and doesn't want a lover who is just experimenting his gay side before returning to his beautiful girlfriend.

The romance has all that you want. Sexual tension, a great chemistry, loveable supporting characters and two adorable guys who do everything to make their beginning love work.

Lovely story. :)

I was stalking*ahem* I mean browsing through a GR friend shelve's and discover a wonderful book/author and that's how I found "Better than good" and it sure was dam good!

There was something so sweet and endearing about the story of Matt and Aaron. I loved everything about their relationship how they meet at a club and Matt is just so mesmerized by the sexiness of Aaron. They definitely had the lust at first sight. But for Matt, it was crazy to be attracted to Aaron so much considering his straight, and with a girlfriend. But there's no denying it, he wants him! The sexy dancer with the beautiful hazel eyes that is Aaron.

description

I loved both these guys, how they took the time to try and take things slow, but their sexual connection is just too strong to deny. Once they take that step their chemistry was so hot it made their love more passionate. My favorite part about them was how beyond the sex they had this friendship, you felt how much they cared for each other. Those goofy moments that had me smiling and those sweet moments that had me with hearts in my eyes.

This book is low on angst pretty smooth sailing if I do say so. A great story about two guys that take a chance on love, not knowing if it's right or if it will last, but how can you not know if you don't risk your heart? But once they opened their hearts to each other they realized it was "better than good" it was a soul beautiful love they found. ❤

This is a nice, solid romance. Danny is a gorgeous out-and-proud man and Matt is a law student who might be bi, but he's always dated women. They meet in a gay club and it's instant chemistry for Matt.

I liked how strong Danny was--he wasn't willing to be Matt's dirty little secret. Most of the plot comes from Matt trying to come to terms with being in a relationship with a man. The romance is good, but I would have liked to have seen more of the 'hard stuff' at the end -- like Matt acknowledging Danny in front of the ex-girlfriend, how he tells his family, etc. As in a number of these types of books, it seems to end just when the closeted MC makes the decision to come out, but doesn't tackle the more challenging territory of actually portraying that. . By that point, I really wanted to see a scene where Matt stood up and acknowledged Danny (with Danny by his side) in front of the people that mattered!

Still, this is a good gfy romance with lots of romantic and sexy stuff. Recommended.

Honestly, this book was delicious. Great story and characters. Matt and Aaron met upon chance at club one night and there was an instant attraction. At that time nothing happened but Aaron was never far from Matt's thoughts. This a story about two men- one who is ready to take a chance on the unknown. Matt's never been in a relationship with a man. Aaron, is out and proud- and hesitant to start anything with Matt.

Gosh, this book had me from the beginning. The characters were delightful. I loved how the author took the time to develop their relationship. We were on their journey with them. It's a story about falling in love and acceptance.

I'm sorry J that I forgot to mention if there's steam. The answer is: Yes.

There's no unnecessary drama, no miscommunication, nothing to take away from a beautiful love story.

A bisexual man falls in love with a gay man. The logistics, no, wait, let's call them what they are, fear and uncertainty. The biggest issue is how to trust. Yourself and each other. But the overriding feel to the story is two people finding "the one".
“...I’m a fucking mess. He’s all I can think about. I can’t sleep, I can barely concentrate at school and work. Shit! I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

“Love?”

I can't help but give it five stars for its complex simplicity in portraying falling in love.
I only want you. Neither of us knows what the future holds, but when I think about the future, I want you in mine. Remember when you said that there are no guarantees, but you want something that feels like the real thing. You are that to me.”

Better Than Good was such a disappointment for me. I had so many hight hopes from it. I had read so many great reviews about this book. Lane Hayes is known as one of the best MM Romance writer and i was really excited to finally read something written by her. But really i've read many under-rated books which was so much better than this, Better than good.

I also had any problems with the main characters, i didn't felt any connection with them. Specially Aaron, I really had difficult time accept as he was. I mean he was gay not a trans-gender or something like this, so the eye-liner and eye shadow thing was really uncomfortable and not easy to grasp and the way he was always chatting with girl like he was a girl. So i really didn't like it, not that i have problem with transgenders which i hasn't.

“my breath literally caught in my chest. I had never seen anyone, male or female, so beautiful in my life.”

Aaron & Matt aka Matty. meet in a gay club, when Matt first saw Aaron something really funny happened, or it was just funny for me? i didn't know that. Because the scene was literally a copy of the movies in 80's when hero first meet heroine had suddenly everything vanish and every sound became muffled and the air was rushing, blah blah blah !! So yeah this was their first meeting. The insta-lust was really weird for a straight guy.

I liked Aaron on how he was not taking Matt for his Boyfriend because he doesn't want any burden. This was the only thing realistic in this book. I liked their friendship alot 80% of the book was fun and sex. It was like i am reading someone's dairy on whom they only write fun days and adventures. No drama, no character development or family issues or society issues. Just plain happiness.

I had never felt so connected and one with a partner. A wave of feeling, so strong I was weak with it, made me wonder why everything was so much better with Aaron.

The reasons why i didn't loved this book:

✏ For me character development is an important aspect, which was really lacking in this one.

✏ I also found the fact really difficult to digest that Matt didn't even told his fucking family that he loves someone and specially when that someone is a man.

✏ The lack of anything less than Matt and Aaron in this book was really annoying.

✏ 80% of the book was fun and games and other was a pathetic attempt to vow Aaron back.

✏ Their was also a lack of chemistry between the main characters i really didn't felt for them

✏ The intimate scenes was also like just .. meehhh!!

✏ There were alot of times when i found myself yawning while reading this book. Thats why it took me more than 2 days to complete is.

The reason's Why I liked this book??

✏ I really loved the side characters. Specially Jay & peter.

✏ Matt's friend's were also really really cool. I loved Curt and how he was their when Matt needed a sanity check.

✏ Matt and Aaron's adventures were really really fun to read.

✏ It;'s not like this that i hate them, i really liked them but not loved them.

✏ I just loved Aaron's sense of humour and the way he was so loud and lively.

So, all in all this book was just fine. I am sad because i had many expectations but i am sure if i would've gone blind with it. I would've liked it a little bit more. May be next time if i read Lane Hayes any book. I 'll go blind for sure. No reading 5 star reviews :/

Excellent out-for-you romance. Just the sort of story I like where the passion and romance between the two MC's seems to occur in a bubble as everything on the outside becomes less important. Matt has a girlfriend at the beginning but that relationship is not serious and he breaks up with her soon enough. Reminds me a lot of Boys of Summer which is a favourite reread of mine. Looking forward to more novels from this author.

This is a sweet love story, about two men, Aaron and Matt, one gay and one straight, that have a casual encounter on a gay bar! After that, Matt can only think about Aaron, and could only imagine his future with him! They are lovely together!

I wish the book was longer, and that we could read more about these guys...

Sweet, sexy and well written. A little predictable, but a really fun read that put a smile on my face.

I loved Aaron but I was glad that this story was from Matthew's POV. He did quite a few things that had me throwing the side-eye at him so I liked being in his head so I could see where he was coming from with some of his choices.

This was an interesting GFY story. Slow moving and believable build-up between the characters. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it even with my ever growing frustration with how Matthew treated the people around him.

Aaron was a lovely character though and really made this read for me. He was very sure of what he wanted and wasn't afraid to stand up and demand it. Go Aaron! You deserve all the things.

In the end though I'd say this was definitely a good read. I'd be curious to see where the men are after Matthew has come out with his family and introduced Aaron to them. Hopefully we'll see a bit of that in further books.

Wonderful solid romance

GFY

Gorgeous guys

Yummy

Started and couldn't stop reading, well-rounded, believable pace from being with girlfriend to falling in love with a man.

"I needed to figure out who I was, what I wanted. Because I couldn’t deny I wanted Aaron.”

Especially with the backstory of Matt having been together with a boy, during high-school. Deep down he already knew about himself, that he was bi-sexual. No insta-love, but a young man coming to terms with his sexuality and meeting the right one to be able to acknowledge it to his friends.

I liked how strong Danny was - he wasn't willing to be Matt's dirty little secret.

The loving was plentiful and beautiful..

"This was definitely better than good."

And it really was!

Really wonderful recommended MM GFY romance. Enjoy!

Rightio......

So I don't really watch the telly anymore, prefer a book to be honest. So I only watch a hand full of things and usually that's when the season is over so I'll watch them all at once. This means that every now and again I feel the need to read something that is a bit mindless and I guess is my very own version of reality TV or I don't know... whatever other stuff the kids are into these days.

This book was kind of that for me. It was an easy read, a simple love story that was just kind of nice. The writing was not knock your socks off (but I do sometimes have issues with first person POV and tenses and the like so maybe it's me) but it told the story of two pretty likable characters and I enjoyed them.

A lot was left hanging which was frustrating. There are two more books in this series and I'm still in the mood for mindless so I hope to get some answers.

Update: Thanks to R*A Reader Obsessed* who pointed me in the direction of the follow up shorts for this. Got some of my questions answered. Sweet and a little smexy!!

Better Than Candy 1 & 2

Better Than Candy 3 & 4

Better Than Candy 5 & 6

Better Than Candy 7 & 8

There are more shorts but I've not read them yet and will add once I have.

You know this could be a good hangover read.

Audiobook 9/1/2015 - 9/3/15

I absolutely adore this book and I loved the narration.

This story is light and sweet and very romantic. Your Song leaves me all gooey inside.

Aaron is adorable.

Matt is adorable.

This story is adorable.

I hadn't noticed how much the word adorable is used until I listened to the audiobook. It's fine, though. It doesn't take away from its adorableness.

4.5 stars.

This was really good. Matt's journey of discovery about himself felt extrememly genuine. Aaron as well felt real and his reaction to Matt and the fact that Matt is figuring out who he is. I highly recommend.

Some parts of the story dragged but i enjoyed seeing Matt and Aaron LEARNING about each other and spending time not in bed. I SO enjoyed that. Too often couples "love" each other and we don't know why because ee don't know THEM. Here, i knew them and could SEE what they saw in each other.

3,5 - 3,75 stars Aaron and Matt. Two complete opposite.
A lovely story. From Matt's pov and that is a shortcoming.
Aaron is more colorful and with more living emotions. Both povs would really make this story.
It was a good read and sometimes it really had me. But mostly it felt for me a bit plain.
Aaron could be so much more described, he has such potential and that really didn't come out in full glory in this story.
Believe me it was entertaining but plain, but definitely worth reading.
