Good judgment takes time to develop, even for superheroes. Take Malcolm, for instance. Within an hour of getting his powers, he trashes a classroom, shows off for the press, and has sex with a random woman after accidentally flying into her house. The woman does what anyone would do, under the circumstances. She takes a selfie with him and posts it on the internet (#windrunner). In a world where valiant champions strive to protect what’s left of humanity against the threat of demons and sprytes, Malcolm cracks jokes, flirts with the enemy, and makes questionable life decisions. As a new member of the Champion Authority, he’s bound by honor to uphold their standards and guidelines… in theory. WARNING: This is an erotic superhero/fantasy novel. It contains a significant amount of explicit sexual content, adult emotional situations, and offensive humor. Reader discretion is advised.
Hey, I'm Edmund Hughes. I like to write fantasy novels with strong erotic themes, gratuitous amounts of sex and violence, and offensive humor. If that's what you're looking for, you've come to the right place.
So. This is probably such a strangely accurate picture of humanity women will hate it and men will find it disturbing. I mean, in the first chapter he finds someone who uses him for her instagram fame and has no problem screwing his brains out. Sounds about right honestly. Any groupie would do the same and has to thousands of artists and actors and celebs even if to only local versions.
The books need to be read together however. The story is not over until it ends. And the ending is... well... its fitting. I don’t think I could have ended it better in any way really.
I found that the sec scenes distracted from the story. So i skipped about half of them. A few were emotionally rewarding and well written or felt right, so those were obviously read. The rest? Its easy to skim past them.
The author put a lot of work into this book. There is no real plot armor. I didn’t feel any at all. It flowed epically and in directions I never seemed to anticipate even when I should have.
I think this book is worth reading. But be warned, its a raw college freshman male perspective. Unfiltered and full of hormones and all the mistakes we all made back then except with superpowers and actual consequences both good and bad.
Props to the author for having the stones to write this. I don’t see this as being the most popular book on Amazon. I do see it slowly gathering a cult following and readers who respect his vision and world. Well done.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
When I got this book I was hoping it was along the lines of a “Dead Pool” combined with when “Spiderman” learned how to use his powers kind of read, over the top storyline with a likeable male lead. Instead this felt more like a pubescent male writing this story as he fantasized about what he would do if girls found him attractive. Lots of sex that did nothing to further the storyline along just a lot of random hook ups that after a while you just kind of flipped past as they were not even mildly arousing.
I get that the author was trying to show that Malcolm was not using his best judgment in most of his choices however it just came across as willy nilly and with no particular purpose, just one random act, leading to another act that got twisted as the result of the first act, after a while you just wanted him to run into a wall and be done with it.
The premise had promise and the story could have been handled much better. I was just not able to connect with any of the characters and made myself finish the book to be able to give my review. There was a lot of page skimming after a while as it just felt like another repeat on a previous event with a slight variation on a theme.
This is a good looking story, it's got a fun main character, an interesting and compelling world, and cool superpowers, it should be a great read. Unfortunately, once you get it back to your place for some fun you find out it's quite a bit flatter than you expected. While that's not a bad thing, or a deal breaker, it is disappointing.
Experienced readers have all heard author's they enjoy talk about how they started writing a story expecting it to be one thing, only to have their characters take on a life of their own and firmly inform the author that he will now be writing the story they tell him to, thank you very much, and they'd appreciate it if he would keep his opinions to himself. This book feels like not only did that not happen, but that the author did everything he could to keep it from happening. All the characters feel like they've been locked into the plot so tightly they can't even breathe, let alone go off script. It didn't make it a bad book, just one that left me feeling more than slightly disappointed and wondering what would have happened if the characters had had a little more say in what they did.
