Laugh and learn as you read inspirational and educational stories about remarkable animals and the people who take care of them. Chicken Soup for the Humane Heroes, Volume III is full of real-life stories that are appropriate for high school readers and above. While teaching the value of humane conservation, children are introduced to some amazing animals – an abandoned baby dolphin who cheats death; African elephants who were saved from slaughter; a lizard who was fitted with a prosthetic foot, among others. Not only will children learn how these animals share and enrich our planet, they will also learn of the critically important work being done by humane heroes around the world that helps them survive.
This is a part of a trilogy that looks into stories from various institutions participating in the American Humane Conservation Program, which is overseen by the national group American Humane.
As a result of this being an ongoing series, each volume shares with the other different volumes the same Foreword, an explanation on being Humane certified or available for their audits and a small glossary list with descriptive blurbs for the zoos and aquariums listed (even if those locations are not mentioned in the book you just read). There is furthermore the same addition Working To Ensure the Welfare of Animals as well as a list of addresses for the mentioned locations.
Each volume comes with twelve individual stories that include: stories of rescue, animal health interventions such as raising a cheetah cub with a dog, new animal care methods, animal-human therapy and scientific discoveries just to mention a few subjects. Readers are not only provided with information on the titular character but also with additional information about the background issues related to that story.
Each story comes with some included photographs of the events that form the story. But what makes these Kindle books different than others is at the end of each story is a link that allows readers to select the desired volume followed by a quick scroll down to select the chosen story to be able to access further photos as well as the ones included in the stories along with videos showcasing the animal of the story or something again related to the story.
Even with so much similarities, each volume is written for a different crowd - vol. 1 ~ elementary, vol. 2 ~ middle school and vol. 3 ~ high school.
All in all they were rather decent stories that showcase just how much is being done to help not just us but also our animal neighbors in their needs.
These stories really do show that the animal caregivers go above and beyond the call of duty while taking care of the animals that were injured, abandoned or needed some TLC to aid them back to health.
