He needs someone to be his fake bride. I need the money he's willing to pay. It's a perfect fit. All I have to do is smile and pretend that I could ever fall in love with a cold, calculating man like him. Everything was going as planned... until he walked in on me while I was trying on my wedding dress. That was the moment he looked at me with something different in his eyes. Something that said I was more than just a way for him to get his inheritance. He shouldn't have kissed me. I shouldn't have kissed him back. Definitely should NOT have slept with him. Now, I can try to lie to his family... but I can't lie to myself. The wedding is fake. But my feelings for him aren't. This is a standalone novella with a HEA and NO cheating! Penny Wylder writes just that-- wild romances. Happily Ever Afters are always better when they're a little dirty, so if you're looking for a page turner that will make you feel naughty in all the right places, jump right in and leave your panties at the door!
ARC received by the author in exchange for an honest review!
It was a bit longer than normal I think or it just seemed so with the chapters.
I love stories like this and that it was short is also a bonus. Not because it wasn't good but it was more fun.
But Heats his siblings are siblings from hell.. They probably don't mean to be bad, but with money in the game your never sure..
Sylph is such a special name and I wouldn't even know how to pronounce it. She also has a pair of balls, like she handled Heath I wouldn't dare. That's probably because I'm shy.
“Buying the Bride” is a contemporary romance featuring a strong, sexually assertive young woman who knows what she wants and goes after it. Unfortunately, what she wants is a guy who simply appears weak in character as well as in personality. The mood (pun intended) is ruined early on when the female protagonist actually thinks of the male protagonist as “timid” and she pretty much nailed it. I may be alone in my view but I don’t find “timid” male leads necessarily a turn on. He eventually came around in the bedroom (after quite a bit of coaxing) but by that time it was just a little too late. His inaction defending the female protagonist when confronted by his snotty siblings merely added to the perception of weakness. The sexual intensity that eventually develops is conversely hindered by both characters constant questioning of the other’s intent, which quite honestly gave me whiplash. Once the male protagonist surrendered to the female lead's (not very subtle) advances the intimate encounters were hot but I just couldn’t get past his bland demeanor. I could be wrong but a strong, sexually assertive female lead should be counterbalanced with a similar assertiveness from the male protagonist.
“Buying the Bride” was a decent read (professionally written, fast paced) but nothing really set it apart from the plethora of contemporary romance written today.

Cinderella was the first Disney cartoon I’ve ever seen, and it’s my favourite fairytale since I can remember myself. That’s why I was so happy to realize that this book is a modern Cinderella story (with a few plot tweaks, of course).
It’s been a while since I equally liked both main characters and they didn’t irritate me at any point of the story. Both Sylph and Heath were wonderful. Sylph because she could stand up for herself, and because she was always kind, down to earth, and genuine. She wasn’t interested in Heath for his money like most of the other girls who he dated or came across did. In fact, she wasn’t interested in marrying at all. Not just Heath, but anybody.
And Heath... Reading through the first chapters, I was right there with Sylph wondering, how on earth this smart, gorgeous, kind, and funny man needs somebody to play his fake bride? 👰🏻 Women should be all over him, but it’s not the kind of women he wants. Both Sylph and Heath had some doubts along the way, but for some reason I found it so endearing when this successful alpha-hero businessman was unsure and vulnerable. It seemed so unlike Heath we meet in the first couple of chapters. Looking at him then you could never guess that he can be anything than arrogant and confident. At times like that, I just wanted to cuddle him, brush my hands through his hear, maybe give him a glass of wine, and tell him everything was going to be ok.
The special “no thanks” goes to Heath’s younger evil twins, Theo and Aurora. I just couldn’t believe how mean they could be to Sylph, when she did nothing wrong, and their treatment of her was completely unwarranted. They were like evil Cinderella’s step-sisters in the fairytale. Mean, so so mean.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s a nice peaceful read if you want to get a break after reading something very intense and emotional. Though, of course, I managed to cry at one point even reading this book. But that’s just me. I can cry over anything. Highly recommend!
Another amazing read that I couldn’t put down. When Sylph friend Mandi asks Sylph to stand in at her job, she never thought she would get paid to be a fake bride. Heath is a sexy billionaire who just wants his family off his back and hires Sylph to be his fake bride but when feelings develop will Heath believe her feelings are real? Heath & Sylph I absolutely loved reading about especially his reaction on their first date. Enjoyable read, that will have you wanting too read non-stop.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book
Cheeky and fun and one of the best by this author. Why? Because the fake bride premise turns into a witty, sexy and romantic scenario that I absolutely believed. Opposites not only attract, they also match and fit like soulmates.
Sylph and Heath are like the Sun and the Moon. Down-to-earth and warm face to face with business-like and loveless. The most perfect first impression develops between them as they meet to go over the details of this contract to act as his fake wife for his family's sake. Such an original and heart-felt scene, so natural and beguiling, and a lovely start to a relationship full of heat, magical connection, and a male character that anyone would adore to pieces.
I feel that there's a lot of romance in this new novella by Penny which I really appreciate along with the daring steamy parts, and a male point of view that I also consider a bonus.
A big high five for this smut romance that manages to be smart, funny and endearing as the appealing couple gets their very happy ending.
This author gives us some quick dirty reads and I either really like them or really dislike them. I don’t have much “in between” with her. This one was unfortunately not one of my favorites. If you like an assertive take charge hero this one is not for you. Heath was very timid and basically sat back and let his Bride for hire initiate everything. There were some steamy heavy petting going on but the two didn’t finally have sex until like 85% in.
I like my men to take charge and after what they want so this one was lack luster for me.
OK, I do love this author but this book for me was just good-very good BUT nothing to light my fire either! All in all a quick, safe and sweet read....a great lazy Sunday afternoon "quickie"!
In desperate need of a fake wife to fool his family, Heath seeks the services of a Bride for Hire! What he doesn't expect is to have feelings for his bride to be. With money hungry siblings that try to stand in the way, will Heath be strong enough to win Slyph's heart. Penny Wylder knows how to write romances that steal your heart. Quick and fast-paced but oh so HOT!!
This book was just bogus. Even with a vivid imagination this story doesn't ring true. The plot has been done many times and so much better. Don't waste your time.
Slyph’s bestfriend/roommate, Mandi, is in the business of playing fake wife to rich guys looking to trick their families/exes into leaving them alone. Mandi comes home panicked one day about having to play bride for some billionaire, Heath Starre. Slyph wants to help her friend and since the money isn’t too shabby, and sex isn’t a condition of the contract, decides to take Mandi’s place. She gets much more than she bargained for once she meets Heath, however.
The characters were likable and pretty well fleshed out. Their chemistry wasn’t the strongest or most believable, but it was charming. The villains, Heath’s younger twin brother and sister, weren’t very intimidating, so the conflict of the story was kind of ‘eh’.
The plot pulled the story down because… well, I didn’t get the plot. Firstly, I have no idea why Mandi is unable to take this job. She’s in despair when she tells Sylph about what she does for a living, but she never gives a reason for why Sylph is acceptable for this one job but she isn’t. Second, as I previously mentioned, the ‘villains’ weren’t really that bad. They dug up some ‘dirt’ on Sylph that isn’t actually dirt, it’s literally a part of her demographic you could get from the DMV, so once they present it to Heath and he sort of gets mad, it doesn’t hold up and just falls flat. On top of that, their whole reason for hating Sylph, because they want to keep as much of their daddy’s money as possible, doesn’t really fit, because unless Heath has kids their portion doesn’t seem at risk. It seemed pretty pointless. Thirdly, why did Heath wait until the last minute to hire someone to fake marry him? There was no inheritance riding on his bachelorhood, no dying grandmother to make happy, it was just a ruse to get his family off of his back? Couldn’t he do that with a fake engagement, or hell, a fake serious girlfriend? The premise of a phony wedding taking place was too unrealistic.
On top of the plot holes, this story is heavier than usual on the typos/missing words for Wylder. It just isn’t one of my favorites by her.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this novel. The whole story is so addicting from beginning to end. I was completely stuck. Sylph character is amazing. She is this jobless girl desperate to find out how to make her next move to pay her bills and make her rent. When her best friend/roommate asks her for help with her line of work. Which just so happens to be getting paid 10k a week to pretend to marry different billionaires. The job consist of playing the whole part in planning the wedding, meeting the family/friends, and acting completely head over hills in love at the altar while taking the vows. Despite Sylph never doing anything close to that before she decides to help her friend out anyway. Especially since she can really use the money. I'm obsessed with how confident Sylph is and how she didn't seem like someone to over think things. She just went with the flow and despite her having her doubts about Heath's feeling towards her. She still put her self out there and made sure to make it known she wanted him... And not just for Fake she wanted him for Real! Even know Sylph is a country girl that grew up on a farm in Northern California and who isn't used to his billionaire life style, she doesn't let the money interfere or intimidate her. Heath's character is awesome as well. I thought he was going to be this hard ass dom in the beginning, but he turned out to be just the opposite. He actually falls for Sylph just as fast as she falls for him. Once he realizes how serious and real his feelings were for her, all he wants to do it protect her from him siblings and make sure she loved him just as much as he loves her. Never once did I ever consider her a gold digger out for his good looks and endless money. He seen how genuine she was from day one. I also enjoy that this story had just enough detail. It was very well put together. Once again Penny your books are still my favorite. Thanks for the GREAT Read!
Buying the Bride by Penny Wylder is a sexy and enjoyable read. Sylph is broke and in quick need of funds/cash. Her BFF offers her a way to make some money and help her out at the same time. Her best friend and roommate is in a business where she plays the fake wife to rich guys in order to fake their families and/or exes into leaving them alone. Mandi is all in a tizzy because one billionaire, Heath Starre. She asks Sylph if she would like to take this job and help her out. Sylph hears what kind of money Mandi makes and jumps on it. When Heath meets Sylph – its is a total opposites attract kind of meet. Sylph is very warm and open while Heath is very cool and stand offish at first. He was looking at this being a business only kind of relationship, same as Sylph but then the chemistry between them lit the pages up. There are villains in the story, which are Heath’s twin brother and sister. Will Heath realize Sylph is the one for him or will their business be concluded after the business is wrapped up? This was one of the mild Penny Wylder stories and it wasn’t as strong in the romance department but it was a nice read. I felt the villains were not too strong, just kind of so so. I did like Heath, he was his own worst enemy at times with him being unsure of Sylph and Sylph not thinking she was good for him but overall, it wrapped up nicely. I would have liked more sizzle and steam but for a Penny Wylder read, it was middle of the road romance read. I liked it, and it was a short read.
My Rating: 4.2 stars ***** “I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."
I love these steamy insta-lust short reads. They are the perfect escape from my chaotic day and the perfect pick me up between dark or heavy emotional books. I look forward to Penny Wylder's new releases. She nails all the different tropes like a boss. I love taboo, corny and cliché.
Buying the Bride was the perfect evening read for me last night!
Heath is a very handsome, very busy businessman. No time to date. Hates fake, plastic, money hungry women. So when he decides to buy his bride to appease his family, he is not prepared for the down to earth, sweet, naturally beautiful Sylph. She immediately charms him and they seem to really hit it off. Heath holds back and really struggles with his feelings. Assumes Sylph is a bride for hire like her friend Mandi who his friend hired in the past. Little does he know Sylph is merely a stand in for Mandi. A just a regular girl down on her luck in need of a job. She initiates many of their interludes. Men around the world would rejoice if their women took the reigns like that. I think Heath's hesitation is out of self preservation and uncertainty. Kind of a bit of role reversal between these two characters. Refreshing frankly. Like it when an author takes a chance like that and shakes things up a bit. Keeps it entertaining and less predictable.
As they get to know each other and clear the air -Is there any chance of reciprocated feelings? Or is this all pretend? Are hearts about to be broken?
Great read. Perfectly paced. Sexy, smart and fantastically written. I borrowed Buying the Bride from Kindle Unlimited and can't wait for what Penny writes next!
Sylph is broke and in dire need of money. Her best friend offers her a way out, the catch is faking a marriage. Heath is in need of fake wife. Turns out what they really needed was each other. 3.5 stars. This book was middle of the road for me for this author. I like the way it was written and enjoyed the storyline. The initial start to the relationship was great and I love the way Heath treated Sylph, especially the surprise in the epilogue and I really enjoyed Sylph's character. Then there were so many little things for me that bothered me. I love this author and am used to the Insta-love scenarios. That being said most of this book felt forced and/or not fleshed out completely. The reason the bestie avoided her was dumb. The big scandal was she was married previously?? If the bestie is making $10,000 a week, why do they live in a crappy apartment? The reason Heath needs to get married seems off. Why not just fake a relationship or engagement, not sure why it needed to not only be marriage, but immediate. Some of the steamy scenes didn't make sense or flow based on positioning, others were hot. Overall not my favorite, but the pluses are higher than negatives. I'd recommend, as most my hang-ups are based on personal preferences.
This was fun! It was a sweet story rather than a heat based story. Heath and Sylph develop such a fun story that I was excited to read what happened. Heath needs a “bride” to placate his parents and his horrible siblings. He hires Sylph but gets more then he bargained for. She does not bend to his alpha dominate behavior; instead she compromises and helps to create their loving relationship. I loved that Heath opened up to her and was willing to change a bit to incorporate Sylph into his live.
Heath’s siblings were horrible people and the ultimate stuck up, bratty young rich kids. I dislike them. I was a little unhappy with the way his parents were described and incorporated into the story. We were told that they were hard, indifferent, and uncaring, but they really did not play a major role in the story. I expected more from them, or the author could have left them out all together, they seem like a bit of an afterthought.
This was a short story, and it was written will and felt complete. I thought it could use a few more details in certain places as it seemed a bit one dimensional in places. I loved this author’s ability to write such sweet stories; I always end up swooning and sighing; worth the read. I received an ARC and am leaving an honest review.
Heath needs a bride to get rid of his family and the only easy way he finds is to rent one.
Sylph’s needs money to get through the days, and needs a miracle to make her dream of going to Greece como true, so when her best friend reveals to her, what is her job about and needs help with it, she is all in, easy job easy money.
Sylph is always trying to make the things real for them, it would be easy to be together when they meet his family. What neither of them knew is that all that pretending was becoming true.
Sylph hasn’t been sincere with her past so when that part comes up with Heath’s family, all the plan seems treated, until they figure it out all their feelings.
I loved Sylph because even when she knew nothing could happen, she tried to make it real, for the job and for her, trying to get both worlds of this and Heath was really a great guy not making all this situation awkward and he being a real gentleman.
Loved this story because is everything you look for to enjoy a book but short, a quick read you can do in a lazy day and still enjoy a good, sexy, dirty love story.
I received an Advance Reader Copy for Buying the Bride written by Penny Wylder and voluntarily reviewed this book. Sylph was desperately job hunting, trying to find a way to pay her half of the apartment that she shared with her best friend Mandi so she doesn’t end up homeless. Just when she was about to lose all hope, Mandi asks for Sylph’s help with her very mysterious “job,” which she finally confessed was a job pretending to be a wife to men who are willing to pay VERY good money for the service. According to Mandi, it’s a high-demand Business, too. So, of course, Sylph says yes.
When billionaire Heath Starre hires Sylph for the next few weeks to appease his visiting family,, he is pleasantly surprised and finds himself attracted to her. He admires her natural beauty, her frankness, and her view on life. The thing is, Sylph finds herself wanting to believe what they have is real, but it’s just a job...or has it become more?
As always, this author knows how to write appealing characters and storylines, and this was no exception! Another quick & enjoyable read!
This story is written in dual POV, which I like because it gives the thoughts and feelings of both the main characters to the reader. There are twists and turns that are unsuspected and emotional ups and downs. Hot chemistry and steaming scenes. The story has suspence, lust, love and a emotional roller coaster. Sylph is very much in need of a job and her roommate asks her to be a fake bride for a billionaire for a couple of weeks. It pays good and Sylph accepts. Heath needs a fake fiancée to get his family of his back. They both have instant attraction towards each other but they do not dare to tell each other because of their agreement. No spoilers so you have to buy the book. It is a relatively short story but it is a fantastic well written and enjoyable read. The main characters develops a lot through the story and they are relatable and likeable. The story is well balanced and has some hot scenes and lots of chemistry. I like the characters are strong.
*I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy for an honest review*
I enjoyed this story more than I thought I would. I usually struggle with fake bride stories but I liked this one. I read this book in one sitting and wasn’t once bored. I liked both Heath and Sylph. I liked them both as separate characters and together as a couple. The chemistry between Heath and Sylph was clear to see. I liked them together and was rooting for their relationship to be real. The real feelings for one another behind the fake engagement/marriage was clear to see. I liked how sensitive Heath seemed to be. He was disappointed when he thought Sylph didn’t have real feelings for him. I was really happy that Sylph finally stood up to Heaths brother and siblings. Them twins were pure evil. I wanted to smack them upside the head. The ending for this book is super sweet. I liked that Heath and Sylph finally confessed their true feelings for one another. I also liked the epilogue/two years later for this book. I like that the passion between Sylph and Heath was still through the roof. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and an enjoyable read.
Bride For Hire Hot, reserved billionaire needs a wife! No attachments, just a business transaction. Throw in some mean and devious siblings, a big secret and you’ve got a great story.
Sylph is a breath of fresh air. A young girl struggling to get by. She needs money. Her bff has a job where she pretends to be married to men and gets paid generously for it. She’s in a bind, and needs Sylph to take on a new client.
Heath’s a business man. He works hard but has no interest in a gold digger. To get his family off his back, he decides to hire a girl to marry him. He never sees Sylph coming. She’s going to turn his stuffy existence into a tailspin.
It’s only supposed to be business. But Sylph is so easy to fall in love with and their chemistry is off the chart🔥! Maybe love is possible again even after you’ve been hurt. Sylph and Heath find their other half in each other. It was only supposed to be business, but it turned into so much more!
Heath and Sylph are quite the pair. Sylth is presented with a perfect timing opportunity to make the money she desperately needs to avoid moving back home. Her best friend runs a Bride-for-Hire business and asks Sylth to take on one of her clients. Then she meets Heath. The attraction is instant and her personality and view on life is refreshing and unexpected for Heath. After role playing their first date, things progress in a comfortable fashion. When it’s time for Sylth to meet Heath’s family, it’s then that the real problems arise for their fake relationship. Thanks to those hurdles, they are both able to uncover exactly what’s going on with their relationship.
I loved the characters and their dynamic. Sometimes the storyline got a little wonky but nothing that prevented me from reading the book in an afternoon. I wish there would have been move development of the story and a deeper conflict. Overall, an enjoyable read.
“A bought marriage is no longer fake when two people turn the heat up for real.” ~ Chen Pink, reviewer of ‘Buying the Bride’
There are five huge reasons why I gave this book 5 stars:
1. A rehearsed kiss turns into a wanted sensation, just like the quote below: “Our lips gently come together, soft and slow, tasting and testing each other out.”
2. A rehearsed intimacy turns into an unstoppable night, just like the quote below: “She gasps when I slowly push it inside of her.”
3. A rehearsed wedding ceremony turns into a come-true ‘I do’ just like the quote below: “I feel sick to my stomach as I walk down the aisle, and people are watching me.”
4. Every intimate move written was not repeated, and they were so ideally memorable.
5. Every romantic word was uttered so genuinely between the two main characters, who have decent personalities and respectable connections.
I voluntarily read an arc of this book for a fair and honest review. Call me crazy but it drove me nuts not knowing why Mandi didn’t take the job...she just dropped the job in Sylph’s lap why???? Anytime Mandi was mentioned I went back to why she gave the job to Sylph. Sylph was so not what I thought she was going to be. Not cookie cutter at all. Which I loved. I couldn’t predict her next move and it was refreshing. To be totally honest, when this book arrived I had a feeling of dread. I am growing tired of the married for money books, but this book is out of the box and I’m actually glad I received it. Sylph is a sexual wildcat. It’s an interesting turn of events when it’s Heath that says no. With the exception of the HEA I must admit this book was totally unpredictable and worth the time to read it.
I voluntarily reviewed and advanced reader copy of this book. I absolutely loved this book. It’s short and sweet, sexy, sassy and a fun read. Sylph is desperate need of money and her friend Mandi has a suggestion for her to make some quick cash no strings attached. Mandi has always been tight lipped about what she does for a living and Sylph is about to find out. Mandi tells her and suggests that Sylph give it a shot and she’s got the perfect guy for her. Heath, sexy, hot and looking for a fake bride for hire to get his family to leave him alone. How hard can it be? Go in, get the money, pretend and not fall in love, right? Their chemistry is off the charts hot, but can they keep this professional and not let their feelings get in the way? Such a great read, I love Penny and can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!
