A horrific bombing rocks the quaint streets of London's West Brompton neighborhood and Max Austin finds himself the target of an international manhunt the likes of which the world hasn't seen since the hunt for Osama bin Laden. The former KGB assassin must put his fight against the consortium on hold while he seeks redemption.
As Max chases the bomber from the gritty streets of London through the lush Spanish countryside and into the treacherous mountains of Chechnya, he's plunged into a high stakes game of chess with a wily MI6 agent determined to catch him at all costs.
Can Max find the terrorist and clear his name before it's too late?
The Attack is the third installment in The Russian Assassin adventure thriller series that pits Max Austin against his archenemy, the shadowy consortium of international criminals who will stop at nothing to kill Max and his family. If you like heart-pounding, page-turning thrills, grab this adventure starring Jack Arbor’s grim hero, the ex-KGB assassin-for-hire, Max Austin.
Jack Arbor is the Amazon bestselling author of six thrillers featuring the wayward KGB assassin Max Austin. The stories follow Max as he comes to terms with his past and tries to extricate himself from a destiny he desperately wants to avoid.
Jack works as a digital technologist during the day and writes at night and on weekends, with much love and support from his lovely wife, Jill.
Jill and Jack live outside Aspen, Colorado, where they enjoy trail running and hiking through the natural beauty of the Roaring Fork Valley. Jack also likes to taste new bourbons and grill meat, usually at the same time. They both miss the coffee on the East Coast.

In this third book in the series, Max is after the Conglomerate. After killing one of the members, the organization frames him for a terrorist act. Now on the run from everybody, Max still has to take them on.
I've read and enjoyed all the Max Austin novels, but this one left me with a What Happened? feeling at the end. It didn't seem as if any of the plot lines were resolved. If that pattern continues, I'll gave to drop Max, and that would be a shame.
Max is set up by the consortium and backstabbed by the CIA, leaving him at the mercy of MI6 analyst, Callum Baxter. Baxter coerces Max to do his job for him in exchange for his freedom. Max tracks down the junior member of the shadowy consortium and forces the banker to feed him information rather than killing him outright. His cyber warrior, Goosehawk, is missing for most of the book, but returns. Max learns the true nature of the consortium, but still does not know the reason behind their extreme hatred other than the fact his father acted as handler for a French banker in their early days. Kate is in increasing danger.
The book ends abruptly with Kate's fate in peril, but it is a series, so there needs to be a draw for the next book, The Hunt.
Enjoyed three books of Russian assassin, easy to read and follow the story. Some things I don't agree with for political reasons, but it is personal point of view. Rebels in Donetsk, joyful and open hearted Chechen people, for example, I just don't see it that way. But that's a matter of opinion and political beliefs. Jack, you should have, however, asked some Russian to read it before published. There are some things, little details, which could be easily fixed, like, if a last name ends on "a", it belongs to a woman. There is no way a man will have a last name which ends with "a". Example: Ivanov - man's last name - turns into Ivanova, if it is a woman. If my last name is Serova, my son's last name would be Serov, that sort of thing ...There were couple more little details like that, not a big deal, just wanted to let you know, because you asked for constructive honest reviews..:)
This book did not turn out as I thought it would. Don't get me wrong I love this series but how will Max get out of trouble? Luckily I have the next and fourth book in this series about Max Austin by Jack Arbor. I recommend that you try this series. It is full of unexpected twists and turns that will keep you reading way past your bedtime...
I really enjoyed book 1 except for the “bike hitting a brick” finish and felt hijacked into moving on to book 2. Book 2 was awash with killings, mostly nonsensical, but I persevered until the bike hit the brick again and so I started book 3. Half way through and I have given up - the plot is now so outrageous as to be utterly ridiculous. One man against the world hell-bent on killing everyone he perceives as getting in the way of his still unfathomable mission is not my concept of literary entertainment. My reading time is more valuable than this.
First book was a bit light but with some promises, it was somewhat fresh, interesting characters, and I was looking forward to book two. It was not as good. It seems that instead of developing characters and working on a plot, the author decided to make it simpler by jamming it with lots of movement, flying around the world, adding more characters instead of adding more depth. Really disappointed. So the stars are going in the opposite direction of the book numbers - 3,2,1. Which means that the next book is going to be unreadable. As long as this book is, author could have told us everything in a very short 50 page novella. Real shame! Although I'm sure that there are people should like this crap
Mr. Arbor really needs to learn the difference between it's and its. He also needs to learn the correct use of the apostrophe; writing "the German's (or the Russian's or the Latvian's) know how to blah blah blah" would have his high school English teacher spinning in her grave. In addition to the spelling and punctuation errors, Max is becoming more and more unrealistic. In fact, the entire book was quite over the top. I love a good spy/intrigue novel, but this isn't one of them. It's like he's trying too hard to copy the great Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon, but he's coming up short. Also, everyone wears "wraparound sunglasses". Good grief.
In London's West Brompton neighborhood, a horrific bombing rocks the town. As Max Austin investigates the bombing, he discovers he is the target of an international manhunt. Can Max find the terrorist bomber and the organization, and can he clear his name before it's too late? The hunt takes the reader to Spain and into the treacherous mountains of Chechnya. It's very suspenseful and invigorating to read. It's also well written, and you'll be amazed from beginning to the end. Highly recommend.
Enjoyed reading these book 3. Before reading this book you need the first book "Russian Assassin" otherwise you will miss the integral part of the story. The series books is about revenge, loyalty, and protection towards his remaining family members and his friends. This mean that even though he is an assassin he still have compassion to people who are innocent or caught up in his situation. I recommend these books to adult person and refrain to children below 18 years old because of the violence and too much killings.
Although I gave this book 5 stars, I did it because it was a fast paced thriller that had me in the edge of my seat. I never knew if a key character would or would not survive a dangerous situation. For that reason, it was not predictable. My only issue with this 3rd book in the Max Austin series is that the author wraps everything up too quickly without full explanation of the many situations that you’ve been taken in to as you near the end.
Max is at again, keeping me turning pages until the end. As well written as any other spy thriller out there. Jack, you have to finish the series, please. We need to know what happens to Kate and the rest of the group, you can’t leave so many questions unanswered! I’ve been reading the Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn and Scot Harvath by Brad Thor and you are right up there with them. Keep up the great work, I’ll be waiting on the next book!
This is a great series. I have read the first 3 back to back to back, and will start book #4 as my next read. There are some parts that are a bit unrealistic, and some things are just not explained, but all in all a darn good yarn, and the author knows how to end the book with questions unanswered so the reader, at least this reader, just has to go immediately to the next book to keep the storyline going.
Until I got to the end I was ready to give this one 5 stars. But wait? I turned the page after Max’s nighttime meeting with Baxter and I had more questions than answers! Where the heck is some kind of closure? Cripes! I hope I get some answers to my many questions when I read book 4. I really like the books and the characters but there are so many sub plots I get lost!
A light hearted tale about a man and his mother. Well, not quite. Max is still on a mission to eliminate the Consortium. Pretty much everybody, on both sides of the pond, are after Max. If you have read the first two books in the series, you will need no further inducement to read this one. If you haven't, you are definitely going to want to. Lots of action and more than a few surprises.
I love the books of Max Austin, Jack Arbor is an expert maintaining the tension of the plot, and developing different scenarios amid the complexity of life of the "operators", spies or special agents. I only hope that the next book in the series will appear soon, and I recommend to those who, for the first time, will enjoy reading that they start with book # 1.
Another great read! Would love to read another with Max. Only question for me is the confusion around Arina's choice of boyfriend. It just didn't make sense - plausibility and explanation were both shaky. Dynamic with mother is unique and would like to know why she continues being cagey. Maybe another storyline there to explore???
Great books of espionage fiction as I'm reading the whole series! Max is a super hero that I thoroughly enjoy as opposed to the Hollywood movies that they keep churning out which are
banal, stupid, and terribly written. I recommend these books as they are well researched, current with military technology, and have some great escapes for Max!
I’ve just finished reading the last book in the three book series “Max Austin thriller” and wish there were more. It’s a lot for me to say ‘I couldn’t put it down’. The characters are so well penned that I felt I could actually see them going through each scene of the storyline.
I like a book where someone dies in the first chapter. Arbor certainly doesn't disappoint! The trilogy builds on its characters and the threads holding the storyline together are tight. I'd love to area spin off on Spencer sometime in the future. Well worth reading!
Jack, Great story again, full of surprises, twists & turns. But you can't leave us hanging like this. What is going to happen to Kate ? What deal did Max close with Julia/Wulf ? Who is Bluefish ? Etc, etc. I won't ask if, but when, will the sequel(s) be written/published ? Hope to read more soon.
I have just finished the trilogy of the Russian Assassin ( Belirussian) and I'm sure that it makes the readers of this series think of Mitch Rapp and Jack Ryan. Maybe a little Jack Reacher thrown in to the mix but a page Turner for any reader. Thanks for a great read and keep Max tripping up the scheme s of the Consortium.
I really like this series. The character Max makes this a very good book. It just seems to me that we are starting to get more Intrigue and drama and less action. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It's just an observation. But if you like drama intrigue spy thrillers do you love this book and series. As usual I can't wait to read the next book.
Another great reading experience is in this the third of the Max Austin Assassin Series . Once started one is compelled to devour the Novel as fast as possible The Author continues to produce great characters & page turning Suspense One awaits the other 2 novels with great anticipation....hope it is not a long time in coming ! Bravo !
Having finished the three book series on “Max Austin,” found them to be very well written. Not having traveled outside of the lower 48 states, enjoyed the history and descriptions of the landscapes and people’s. The depth of the characters was very good and found that very interesting. What an enjoyable time spent reading!!
I thought.that this book was very good a hard one to put down. I have to assume that there will be another in the series when it co rd out I will be reading it. Mr. Arbor is right up there with Robert Ludlum as a writer gets your attention and keeps it to the end. Very good.
Great book, many great characters! Very current with today's politics! He has so many characters to keep up with and I like how the book gets you involved up to a point with a certain character, then moves to update you on a different character! The end just stops, so I am now reading the next book of the series!
Great little spy read. I love this genre and Arbor really does a great job. This was fast paced, engaging, and while were set and ready for the next installment, it never felt formulaic. I was very please with the continuation of the story. Though, Max’s sister really irritates me and I’m hoping we get a bit more in her. All in all, I recommend it!
The character development of Max and what makes him tick continues to evolve in a positive fashion from book to book. Knowing what motivates and makes the protagonist tick only serves to enhance the feeling the reader has of being along for the ride.
