Daniel needs a change, his job within the financial world has become more than tedious. Seeking to move his family somewhere else and tackle a new career they move to Belize. As the new manager of a local tourist business, he is looking forward to the change. The bonus is the area they will be living in is beautiful! Everything is fine until it isn’t. Caught up in a terrifying situation, Daniel and his family are struggling to survive as another plans their death.

The author, Magnus Leijon weaves a tantalizing story around his true-life experiences. The heartbreaking story is full of twists that are poignant and terrifying. The story reinforces the need for the closeness of family. Terror and danger are sometimes just a tree or two away. The psychological torment that this family faced is detailed vividly.

This is a dramatic performance with each character being performed by members of the family. There were sound effects and dramatic music woven throughout. I am not a fan of theatrical performances within audiobooks as I feel it distracts me, however, I found it fascinating that the family performed the book.

Overall, this is an enticing book. I am not sure I would have survived all the family encountered. The book was engaging and informative, the richness of detail draws in the listener while the rest of the book keeps them there.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook. It was clear and crisp.

I chose to listen to this book after receiving a free audio copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

Magnus and his wife did what many of us dream of doing: leaving the grind of every day and moving to Belize. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be paradise turned out to be a terrifying experience. That sounds like a good novel, but to be a true story…yikes!

This is a theatrical audiobook in which the Magnus Leijon’s family performed their roles from the experience. I thought that was great. I usually enjoy theatrical audiobooks, and I liked the different voices in this one, but the music was distracting. It also took some getting used to the author’s voice as narrator.

This is a good story, but I think I would have liked it more if I had read the book rather than listening to the audiobook.

Life in Belize

I live in Belize very close to where this story takes place. It is all spot on. People ask me if it’s safe in Belize and what to watch out for….. I tell them… the Gringo banditos. Money corrupts
