When the woman he loved walked out of his life, Brooks Alexander was certain she did so willingly—with the cool two-million his father had offered as incentive to walk away. So when he learns that Darcy didn’t take a dime of his father’s payoff, Brooks realizes he made an epic mistake. He’s determined to make things right and reclaim his woman. Except neither task is as easily accomplished as he first thought.
Now her life is in his hands…
Wedding planner Darcy is no stranger to disappointment when it comes to the men in her life. When Brooks accused her of taking his father’s bribe, she was devastated that he thought so little of her—and realized he never knew her at all. So she walked away with her pride intact and her heart broken. Now, months later, an overheard conversation puts Darcy in the crosshairs of a dangerous criminal with powerful connections. With nowhere else to turn, she has no choice but to put all her trust in Redemption Harbor Consulting—and its cofounder, the man who broke her heart.

Book 3 in Katie Reus’ Redemption Harbor series brings us Brooks and Darcy: a couple who broke up over a misunderstanding, and whose second chance comes when Darcy finds herself unwittingly involved with the bad guys after accidentally overhearing something she shouldn’t have.
She was his to protect. From any and all threats.”
Brooks loves Darcy and Darcy loves Brooks, but he broke her heart and as such their reconnection starts with baby-steps. But once the action starts kicking off and emotions are heightened, they’re soon reminding each other of what they’ve lost.
He wasn’t perfect; no one was. But he was perfect for her.“
Dangerous Witness fell into the liked as opposed to loved category for me—I appreciated how there were no games between Darcy and Brooks, however in comparison to its predecessors this was overall a slower burn read and did hit a bit of a lull in the middle for me. But with the secondary characters ever present, the path has certainly been paved for more from the ladies and gents at Redemption Harbor Consulting.
His love for her had never died.”

4 - "I don't ever want to be something you regret..." Stars!
We return to the Redemption Harbor series, with the third book Dangerous Witness giving us Brooks Alexander and Darcy Cooper’s story.
Seven months have passed since Brooks made the biggest mistake of his life, a mistake that saw him lose the woman he loved and was planning to marry. Time has pretty much stopped for Brooks since, because moving on from Darcy Cooper isn’t something he really wants to do. Especially when he finds out that the reason he broke things off between them was based on assumptions, and not actual fact.
He’d broken her heart, and months later she still wasn’t over him.
But unwittingly being in the house of a notorious Russian Mafioso, and literally having her ear in the wrong place at the wrong time, puts Darcy in a position of extreme danger, one that Brooks, as soon as he finds out, won’t let he deal with on her own. And complete with Stetson he dons his Knight in Shining Armour suit, along with the rest of the Redemption Harbor Consulting team, in the hopes of protecting her, and seeing the bad guys bought to justice.
Darcy was his to protect… Through any means necessary.
The past between these two, meant that the rebuilding of their relationship was more of a slow burn for the first half of the book, Darcy is still very much hurt by the way Brooks treated her, and although still feels the same way as she did when they broke up, is very much playing things cautiously even though Brooks makes it pretty apparent early on that he is out to win her back, and this time for good.
Slow burn turns into burning up the sheets once Darcy decides she is all in too, and the couple’s relationship solidifies again around the action involving the bad guys, which made this another easy and enjoyable read from one of my favorite authors.

I liked Dangerous Witness a lot, mainly because I really loved Brooks. He knows he effed up BIG and there's no question that he wants to fix things between him and Darcy but he doesn't really know how. Watching him figure it out and than go all in to win his girl back was adorable and he won me over pretty quickly after that.
The underlying plot was a bit slow to start and wasn't really hands on for our MCs, mostly it's a group effort. That didn't really bother me because it gave us a chance to catch up with the rest of the guys and girls of the group and we get more info on Gage and Nova and Leighton and his love interest. It did slow down the pace for Darcy and Brooks but it didn't derail the main focus off of them either. I think it was a nice balance but it wasn't as intense as the previous books have been.
I notice reluctant or wishy washy h's tend to take longer for me to warm up to and that was the case with Darcy. She was smart, independent and success in her own right but I didn't get why she was holding out with Brooks for so long. She forgives him right away for the way things ended between them 7 months ago and doesn't hold out long with him when it comes to their physical relationship but does push him away emotionally. I felt like she did things backwards.
KR doesn't disappoint, although Skye and Cole are still my top favorite couple of this series, Brooks and Darcy were a nice addition to the group. Brooks is the sweetest of the group and I loved his grand gesture at the end. OTT? Maybe. But ate it up with a spoon. Darcy is a lucky girl :)
Memorable Moments: The barn scene - all I'm gonna say is that is was crazy good and gave me all the feels.
Would I recommend? Yes. Katie Reus can do no wrong in my book!

Narrator Review:Sophie Eastlake did an amazing job narrating Dangerous Witness. I never think too much about the actual acting of a narrator. I'm usually hung up on how well they can distinguish the different characters, especially the male voice from a female narrator. Sophie's voice acting stood out in this book for me. Her reactions came off very natural to the things that were happening in the book. I highly recommend the audible version of this book.

Story Review: Boy did Brooks need to do some groveling! When all you've known is women who only want you and your father for your money, it explains why Brooks messed up with Darcy when he believed she took money from his father to leave him. I love that she didn't defend herself and told him to take a hike. As much as I love a strong Alpha Hero, I enjoy the strong heroines just as much.
Second chance can be iffy for me because of what causes a break up in the first place. Thankfully what Brooks did was forgivable. With his and his fathers past of dealing with gold diggers. It's easy to see why Brookes reacted first. I'm not sure why his father didn't clear up that she never took the money, but I'm glad Brookes stayed celibate during their 7 month separation.
Darcy was the perfect blind of an independent women with self respect but also a soft side. I like that while Brooks stepped in to help protect her, she didn't go against his safety advice just for spite. She also didn't let him get away with anything either.
I like that the author tied the plot to what happened in book 1 while keeping it fresh. The action was exciting and had me on the edge a few times. I love all the players in this series and look forward to each character getting their own book. Katie Reus writes her characters maturely without all that unnecessary drama. I can't get enough of her books!

When Brooks’ father admitted to offering Darcy two million dollars to walk away, Brooks assumed the worse and destroyed everything he had built with her. Now that he knows the truth he longs to make things right but he’s hesitant to hear the word no. However, Darcy overhears a conversation that puts her life as well as others on the line and she is in need of help. The police can’t be trusted so she turns to Savage, Brooks’ coworker at Redemption Harbor Consulting. That’s all it takes for Brooks to push his way back into her life and hopefully this time for good.
Darcy is sweet and caring and despite being scared out of her wits concerning what she overheard, she stays strong and perseveres until the bad guy can be taken down. Brooks is a take charge alpha that suddenly finds himself a little off balance as he insists on protecting Darcy even as he apologizes for his past actions.
The action in this book was worthy of nail biting. So much suspense as Brooks and his team race against time to help bring down a web of villains, each caught in the others trap. Along the way he’s trying to protect Darcy and I was turning the pages as quickly as I could.
While this certainly hits the thriller mark, the romance felt as though it were running in the background. There were a lot of scenes where this couple were not together or where other characters were the main focus. However, when they were the focal point the words flew and the story soared. And the steam factor between these two is enough to singe your Kindle. Let me also add that any hero who would do what Brooks does in order to insure Darcy’s protection will always rate high on my protective alpha hero chart.

Brooks and Darcy had a past relationship, a relationship that Brooks really screwed up.
Darcy was heartbroken that Brooks didn't trust her and believes he never knew her if he believed all the lies that were told to him by his father. She picked up the pieces of her heart and concentrated on her wedding planner business.
Brooks realizes months later that he messed up and royally. He missed Darcy and decides he loves her and will go win her back as well as try and explain himself (like he could, really). But when he arrives at her business late one night (he knows she works late) he saved her from being attacked as she was leaving. That precipitates his protective instincts in keeping her safe. He moves her into his home to protect her and find out what's precipitated the attack and if she's going to be safe going forward.
This allows Brooks to try and win Darcy back. He has a lot of groveling to do and Darcy is determined to keep her heart locked up and safe from Brooks. The two dance around each other in the days ahead. Darcy accidentally overheard something and that is what puts her in even more danger and she realizes she needs Brooks.
I found this to be more suspense then romance. Brooks and his blunder was kind of a weak and pretty flimsy in it's storyline and turned me off to his character. Darcy was sweet and strong. Pacing was a little slow for me as well the setup with Brooks and Darcy's misunderstanding.
I haven't read the first two, but this is a stand alone and wasn't lost at all. I really want to read Savage and Olivia's story.
Brooks let Darcy get away when he believed something stupid about her. Then she overhears something she shouldn't have, and he comes to her rescue. This time he doesn't make the same mistake. If you've read the other books, lots of help from the previous couples.
I didn't really like the two chapters devoted to Gage and Nova (they will get their HEA in book 5). I don't mind teasers, but two whole chapters...no thanks.
I found Dangerous Witness to be a lot slower than the previous two books in the series. When I read a romantic suspense I want to experience the suspense, the rush, the trying to work things out but I didn't feel that when reading this.
I didn't get the feels I was expecting from the blurb ..... a hero who acts like a total knob and dumps the love of his life only to realise he was wrong and sets about righting that wrong ..... sign me the hell up for the feels, angst and grovel. Darcy was such a bland character that he didn't have to work very hard to get back in there, as much as I liked Brooks I wanted one hella epic grovel and I wish that Darcy had made him work a lot harder to earn her forgiveness. I was disappointed in Brooks, it took his father to tell him that Darcy hadn't taken the money - he's not the brightest bulb in the box that he couldn't work that one out for himself 🙄
An easy read with a good intro into the upcoming characters stories, but I wouldn't preferred a lot more RS action and work on Brooks' part.
With her interesting characters and suspenseful plots, Katie Reus is becoming a must buy author for me. I enjoyed the first two books in the Redemption Harbor Series, especially Savage Rising, which received one of my rare 5-star reviews. I’m becoming attached to the wonderful group of friends in the series and I enjoyed the suspense aspect of Dangerous Witness, but I felt it had a few of issues.
A second chance romance, at first I had a hard time feeling any kind of connection between Brooks and Darcy. Part of this was my difficulty swallowing that when his dad brought up to Brooks that he’d offered Darcy money, he didn’t follow it up with the fact she didn’t take it. That seems like something that he would have made clear since he seemed to actually like her. Plus, if Brooks was that much into her, I don’t get why he didn’t ask. The good news is I eventually warmed up to them as a couple. Darcy was super sweet and Brooks ended up being everything I like in a hero: hot, sexy and alpha protective.
The hardest thing for me to reconcile was the horrific convoluted plans of the main bad guy. I completely get that evil can wear sheep’s clothing, but I couldn’t see the man as he was portrayed with his family planning such a vicious horrid thing in order to get revenge. Truly, the plans themselves didn’t make a lot of sense seeing as how it was serious overkill with so many innocents involved.
Taking all the above on board, these issues didn’t stop me from enjoying Dangerous Witness. The chemistry between Brooks and Darcy was combustible making for a super sexy book. Despite my misgivings about the plot, the suspense was palpable with a few edge-of-your-seat moments. We also got to meet a couple new and interesting characters in Agent Hazel Blake, who served with Leighton, and Hadley, a new addition to the family that I can’t wait to hear more about. I can’t wait to see what happens next with the Redemption Harbor crew.
Rating: 3.5 Suspenseful Stars
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Romantic suspense at its best. Strong characters working to defeat the unsavory. One of my favorite themes. I was immediately drawn in and engaged. Without spoilers, one character took a shocking action near the end, but I could hear most reading fans cheering at the result in total understanding and approval. 3rd in the Redemption Harbor series. Can be read as a stand alone but there are many overlapping characters from prior and I hope, subsequent novels.
Brooks and Darcy’s relationship had been broken in the past by a misunderstanding. After hearing a bombing threat, she uses his consulting service connections to law enforcement. Brooks is determined to both protect Darcy and keep her close to his heart. Forever.
Book 3 in Katie Reus’ Redemption Harbor series brings us Brooks and Darcy. It’s their story of misunderstandings and a story of 2nd chances. Brooks made a severe grave mistake when it came to Darcy and he threw her out of his life but he didn’t have the right series of facts when he did it and in doing what he did, he let the only woman that he loved leave him. Darcy loved Brooks so much and when he threw her out of his life, it was as of someone stabbed her and took out her beating heart and replaced it with a dead one for that has been how she has lived her life since their breakup. Seven months have passed since that night and neither have moved on. Brooks made the mistake based on something his father did and now with him learning that the reason he broke things off between them was based on assumptions, and not actual fact , he is desperately trying to figure how to get back into her life and get things back to where they were between them before things went downhill. Darcy is busy with her wedding planning business and her sister's upcoming wedding. She wasn’t expecting to ever see Brooks again nor does she really want to but he showed up just when she needed him when her life was in danger. Although she is not ready to forget or forgive anything at this point. But things take an ominous turn when Darcy herself is a witness to something she should not have heard and seems to have had some threats made against her; she will need Brooks and his friends' skills and connections to help her make it out of this mess alive. Brooks is not only a rich rancher, but he is also capable as an operative. He is possessive, determined, and dominant -a man in love and fighting to win back the only woman he has ever love. That is a motive to make sure nothing goes wrong. Darcy has a lot going on in her life- she has her business, planning her sister’s wedding and she has the threats on her life plus her ex has come back into her life at the worst possible time. Yet she stays pretty calm, cool, sweet and rational. I loved the chemistry that blazes between Brooks and Darcy in this book. This brings back all of the characters from the first two books: Colt and Skye, Savage and Olivia, Mercer and Mary Grace, and also focuses on some of the other members of Redemption Harbor Consulting such as Gage, Nova, and Leighton. This story had a really great message woven thru- forgiveness, trust, and second chances. Ms. Reus has delivered a top notch romantic suspense read and I look forward to the next book in this series.
My Rating: 4.8 stars ***** “I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."
This is an okay read. I can say that based solely on the characters. I especially love Brooks. Though he was the one who messed up big time before that led Darcy and him broke up, his willingness and eagerness to get her back was just touching and incredibly sweet. He's the typical alpha, brave but sweet guy who knows what he wants and will do everything to get it. And how protective he is to Darcy. Darcy was fine too but i find her more predictable than Brooks.
And that's actually why I can't rate this book more than 2.5 stars. It's predictable and cliche, for me. The plot was cliche but I wouldn't have minded that if I liked how it was written. Don't get me wrong, the writing wasn't really bad, it's that I can't get over with repetitions. Like in one chapter, something was already mentioned, expect that it would be mentioned again by the next chapter because the point of view changed. This problem could be avoided, I guess...
The narration also became too informative because there's always an explanation going on (in the head of whoever's having the point of view). Example Darcy will do something, say fixing her hair before seeing Brooks, she would right away explain (to the readers) that it's NOT THAT Brooks won't like her if she looks bad. And tsk, I lost count how many times I've read the phrase NOT THAT... And yeah, you have an idea what comes next this phrase... This makes the narration really informative, in other words, TOO much telling and less showing.
But overall, I think this is still a nice read. I finished it so it means it's tolerable. Maybe it's just me who's so sensitive the way it was written with too much telling. :) :) :)
I got this copy from the publisher thru Netgalley in exchange for an honest review... Thank You. :)
Dangerous Witness by Katie Reus was one of those books once you start reading you don't want to put down. I enjoyed the storyline, the drama was well done, it kept me turning the pages and I loved Brooks and Darcy together. Watching them reconnect after years apart brought out the feels. These two were perfect for each other, and I'm happy they took their time getting reacquainted, communicating honestly and accepting life is so much better being together.
Overall, Dangerous Witness is a great addition to the Redemption Harbor series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them all!!
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again..Katie Reus is my “go to” author when I want a romance safe romantic read with an alpha protective, good guy hero. Brooks, the hero, didn’t break that trend, folks. I’m here to testify he wanted nothing more than to love and protect Darcy, the heroine. Unfortunately for him, he did a “not cool” move prior to the onset of this book that put him in the proverbial dog house. Darcy rightfully did not forgive right away. This book picks up from there, recapping, of course, what originally happened that tore these two lovebirds apart.
With a much slower pace than I expected, this second chance romance slowly unfolds with a relatively long list of sub-characters and side elements centered around exposing one central life-threatening plot. We are also presented with what felt like introductions to more than one potential future main couples that will likely get their own stories eventually. Yeah, Gage, I’m mostly talking about you. I can’t wait to see that handsome hacker continue to get swept off his feet and give into temptation/cross lines with a fellow co-worker he considers off-limits. But, please, stop with the "I'm not good enough for her" mantra. You had me at "hello", my friend.
Though you’ll have to wait for it, some very detailed, graphic steamy/smexy scenes did play out here, as well. So, don’t go into this thinking this is a fade to black. They build up to it though as this patient hero wants the heroine to be all in when they intimately reconnect again.
In summary, I enjoyed it though a few parts played out relatively convenient/predictable. However, there was enough suspense/drama I stayed fully engaged. As a lover of relationship angst/remorseful, groveling protective heroes, the story line was definitely a good fit for this reviewer.
Title: Dangerous Witness, Series: Redemption Harbor (Book 3), Author: Katie Reus, Pages: 300, stand-alone but part of a series, remorseful/alpha hero who regrets losing his girl, damsel in distress heroine, very steamy later in the storyline, no cheating, celibate during separation, no love triangle, no OM/OW drama, kidnapping, heroine is injured.
(I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review, nor is there any affiliation or relationship between this reviewer and the author/publisher/PR firm.)
The pattern of the misunderstood woman and the man who stormed away from her—such that the beginning starts with a good man-grovel—is one that Katie Reus has attempted a few times and I have to say, brings glee to my (alarmingly vindictive) soul. ‘Dangerous Witness’ is exactly that, so this uphill climb back into a woman’s graces when a protagonist has truly screwed up, is probably one of my favourite moments. That is happens at the beginning, however, is unusual.
There weren’t too many surprises in the book however and I definitely like this series as well the pairings that Reus has already written into them, as well as the hints of those to come. Still, ‘Dangerous Witness’ was good—as the action happens because of Darcy’s peripheral relations—though not mind-blowing, with the pacing lagging somewhat in the middle as Darcy dithered on her feelings towards Brooks and his sudden insertion back into her life.
What it’d gotten me thinking about however, was the depth of the betrayal and the extent to which readers might expect a reconciliation…and on what grounds that might happen. I did find myself wishing, that Brooks had decided to win Darcy back on the realisation that she wouldn’t have just walked away from him for money; instead it had to take his father to confirm the facts before he decided—7 months later after putting it off repeatedly—to go all out for it. That Darcy was reluctant was entirely justified and understandable, particularly so since it felt as though her life had to be in danger before Brooks stopped delaying what he should have done months ago. I was in fact, waiting for an opportunity to come up again in the story where Brooks needed to show his unmitigated trust in Darcy, and was disappointed when that didn’t happen.
Or maybe I’m just protesting too much. It does after all, end with an iron-clad HEA and a sweetness that Reus always reinforces with a couple that don’t have eyes for anyone else but for each other.
Darcy Cooper thought she and Brook’s Alexander were meant for one another, but yet after he accused her of taking his father’s money she is alone. She still has her wedding planner business which is going well but after overhearing a conversation has put her in the cross hairs of a killer he must now protect her. She on the other hand does not know what she heard and does not want anything to do with Brooks, though she still has feelings for him. When he finds out from his father that she did not take the money now he must not only protect her but also somehow someway prove to her that he made a huge mistake and she is the woman for him. Can he save her, but more importantly save himself? Read this wonderful story. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
This thrilling instalment in the Redemption Harbour series brings us closer to the Stetson-wearing, ex-Marine that we know as Brooks.
If you haven’t read the first three books, I suggest you do so first. They’re all great books in their own right but pull together perfectly, creating an exhilarating series that will have you struggling to pick your favourite book, or character, and set your nerves a flutter.
This instalment is full of regret and heartbreak and even though there may be a glimmer of hope, it’s never smooth sailing. The twists and turns will have you gripped and eager to devour it as quickly as you can.
Of course now I’m itching to get my hands on Gage’s story. I don’t know if his story is in the works but I sure hope so!
I was just ok. I really hated what Brooks had done (presumed). But I did like that she did not roll over immediately. The suspense was just ok. I would have preferred more action and less Brooks acting all “whoa is me” and not doing anything about it.
Dangerous Witness is a romantic suspense and second chance romance story. Reus does such a good job with romantic suspense so I am always excited to read her books. Darcy and Brooks were in love until Brooks accused Darcy of accepting a bribe from his father. He never asked her if she took the bribe. He just thought the worst of her. Months later, he realizes he was wrong and tries to get back into her life. She is still hurt though.
Darcy is a wedding planner and she is working on her sister's wedding to Peter Markov. Brooks recognizes that name immediately as one of the men on their list of ner-do-wells involved in criminal enterprises. Darcy overhears something she shouldn't and now she is in danger. Brooks is the perfect man to help because he cofounded Redemption Security!
Brooks was such a dumbass. What a horrible thing to accuse the person you love of doing! So, he was NOT my favorite hero. However, I did come to understand him as the book went on. Still, his actions were douchbaggary at its finest. The story is a blend of the mystery of what Markov is up to and the second chance romance between Brooks and Darcy. Its one thing I love about Reus' books-there is excellent balance between action/mystery/suspense and romance.
You get the camaraderie of the security team, the family drama of Brooks and his dysfunctional father, the mystery of what Markov is planning, and the rebuilding of a relationship woven throughout the story!
POV: 3rd Tears: no Trope: second chance Triggers: none Series/Standalone: stand alone within an interconnected series Cliffhanger: HEA:

A BIG screw up, 7 months apart, an apology, danger, sabotage, creepy stalker/kidnapper, friendship and a bit of romance!
Brooks and Darcy don't get much time alone together in scenes at first but then it gets better. Lots of scenes with Gage and Nova and from the bad guy's POV which was distracting for me, but others probably love the buildup of future couples. I prefer they be in scenes that include the main couple of the current book rather than have their own scenes and chapters (personal preference cause these are like a commercial during the TV show that interrupts my focus).
I love Katie's other series but this one has been difficult for me to appreciate since they don't just bend the law, they break it and commit murder (always "bad" guys) etc. and I wish that so many former law enforcement officers were not portrayed this way. Again, just my preference.
You will of course get the repeated references to the characters from the other books in the series ( ie... Skye eating A LOT, carrying having C4 in her purse) and get a great scene of Brooks and his dad finally talking about Brooks' mother and why his dad dealt with her death so badly. Also a surprise half sibling is introduced to be the heroine of the next book in the series.
Brooks Alexander has watched two of his best friends find love and it makes him miss his "one that got away"...well the one he accused, made angry, and pushed away by not trusting her. So he is trying to find a way to apologize to her and get a chance to rectify his mistake.
Darcy is busy with her wedding planning business and her sister's upcoming wedding. She was not expecting to see Brooks again, but he showed up just when she needed him. Althoug she is not ready to forget or forgive either. But when she finds herself a witness to something she should not have heard and seems to have some threats against her, she will need him and his friends' skills and connections to help her.
Brooks is not only a rich rancher, but also capable as an operative. He is protective, possessive, and determined. His mission is not only to keep her safe and bring down the bad guys, but also to regain her trust. And as they are spending more time together, it makes them remember why they were so good together until he ruined it all. But Darcy has a lot on her plate and he broke her heart in the worst way. She is independent, feisty, loving, and strong-willed...and afraid to get hurt again.
Will Brooks be able to get her out of a dire situation while also trying to win back her heart?
This was full of threats, antagonists, action, suspense, and danger. But it is also a story of forgiveness, trust, and second chances.
This brings back all of the characters from the first two books: Colt and Skye, Savage and Olivia, Mercer and Mary Grace, and also focuses on some of the other members of Redemption Harbor Consulting such as Gage, Nova, and Leighton. I really enjoy this group and how they push each other. They are smart, resourceful, protective, and operate on the fringes of the law but for the right reasons. I am looking forward to more books with Gage and Leighton hopefully.
As I've mentioned before, I'm not huge fan of second chance romance, but I've read a a fair few by Katie Reus, and I usually enjoy her second chance romances. So, I decided to give Dangerous Witness a try. Unfortunately, this one wasn't a hit for me.
Dangerous Witness is about Brooks, a wealthy man from a wealthy family, and Darcy, a wedding planner with a brand new business. Darcy and Brooks dated for a bit, but Brooks thought Darcy took money from his meddling father, and broke it off with her. Darcy was very upset, but gets on with her life. Brooks realizes his mistake, and wants to get back together with Darcy. Darcy isn't sure she wants to go there, but when she overhears a secret plot to hurt kids, she has to rely on Brooks and Redemption Harbor Consulting to keep her safe and to stop the secret plot.
Let's talk about what I liked first. I absolutely did like both Darcy and Brooks. Brooks obviously was an idiot for the way he broke things off with Darcy, but he does realize it (months later!). He definitely takes the time to apologize to Darcy. And I really liked Darcy, too. She's working so hard to make her new wedding planning business a success. She's not afraid to tell Brooks what a jerk he was. Of course, she does eventually forgive him. Brooks and Darcy had great chemistry and I liked them as a couple.
However, as much as I liked Darcy and Brooks together, so much of Dangerous Witness was focused on the suspense. I wanted MORE romance. There just wasn't enough of it. I just got bored. If you like the suspense aspect more in romantic suspense, Dangerous Witness might be more up your alley. But for me, there just wasn't enough romance. This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook
Brooks Alexander made the biggest mistake of his life when he walked away from Darcy, and he knows it. He didn’t have the full story and jumped to conclusions, breaking the heart and trust of the only woman he wants.
Darcy hasn’t gotten over the hurt Brooks caused when he didn’t trust her, but she has tried to put him in her past. Her wedding planning business is growing steadily and keeps her from dwelling on her own heartbreak, too much. When she overhears a conversation that puts her in danger, she has nowhere to turn except to the man who broke her heart.
I love the way this story jumps right into the action and suspense while also building the chemistry and connection between Brooks and Darcy. Though they had been together before, they needed the time to build a bridge over their past. I felt like maybe some of their history had played out in a previous Redemption Harbor book (I haven’t read book 2) but enough of their history was recounted here that I didn’t feel like I missed anything. It was more a sense that events were already in motion.
The connection between them rebuilds in an organic, if abbreviated, manner. But part of what I love about romantic suspense is that the strong sense of danger amplifies all emotions and characters fall faster and harder. Because these two were involved in the past, their speedy time frame fits even better.
This book was filled with danger and suspense, forgiveness and second chances. It had me turning pages as fast as I could, completely engrossed in the agitation of what would happen if the danger caught up to Darcy. The Redemption Harbor Consulting crew is back, with some great interaction between all the men, as well as Olivia, Valencia, and Skye. This is a tight-knit group of friends that works hard and loves harder.

Let me begin by saying that I have read other books by this author and really liked them. However, this one fell short for me personally. Part of the problem might be that I had actually not read the prior books in this particular series, and although this is touted as a possible standalone, and although the author does explain the backstory of Brooks and Darcy that I guess came out in the prior book, I still had a huge sense that I was missing things by not having read the other books. The premise of this series, and the plot of this particular book, are very interesting. Where the story fell apart for me was in its lack of tightness. It has a lot of repetition (e.g., you only need to tell me once that Brooks' father just moved back from Florida), and some unnecessary details (e.g., unimportant character details about characters that appear only once and are completely inconsequential to the story). I'm not sure why the repetition in particular wasn't cleaned up during editing. In terms of characterization, I liked Brooks and Darcy, although I didn't feel a whole lot of chemistry. I felt more chemistry between Gage and Nova, whose story I'm guessing is next. With all that being said, I like the premise of this series enough that I will likely go back and read the first book so that I understand how it all started, and I would definitely be interested in reading Gage and Nova's story because their chemistry in this book is exactly what I'm looking for between lead characters. Others readers clearly loved Brooks and Darcy together, so if the blurb of this one appeals to you, give it a shot.
I received an ARC via NetGalley. This review is my honest opinion of the book (obviously!). ;-)
I couldn't forgive someone that thought me capable of this betrayal. Not to the extent that I would need to forgive someone in order to make a healthy relationship. The hero comes from a very wealthy family. I guess that makes it all right that the hero behaved this way. (Sarcasm) This is honestly one of my favorite authors and I will still snatch up anything I find of hers, This book, however, bombed for me and I couldn't finish it.
