I have a passion for creative investigation--digging deep into the heart and soul of characters, while also engaging them in the complex and often dangerous world in which they have a stake. I have an abiding regard for courage in the face of adversity, which shows in my work.

I seek to be precise, accurate, and intellectually rigorous but also to write with the language of the heart. I want to explore all that makes people what they are as complete but fallible human beings, while testing their mettle in every way possible.

My nonfiction shows the same respect for clarity of thought about matters of substance, complexity, and nuance.

The Marriage Of Miss Jane Austen
Volume III
By: Collins Hemingway

*REVIEW* 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This story is the third and final volume of The Marriage Of Miss Jane Austen. It is the imagining of Jane Austen's life if she had married which, of course, she never did. While I enjoyed the story, I had a difficult time thinking about her life differently. The author does an excellent job of describing the early nineteenth century in its everyday existence and the bigger picture of the Napoleonic wars. Jane and her husband are no strangers to tragedy, and that is accurate but unfortunate for the era. As a what if scenario, this tale is compelling, absorbing and believable. I recommend for any Jane Austen fans who have ever wondered how she might have lived as a wife and a mother. Definitely a unique premise!

In this third volume, the conclusion of the series trilogy of The Marriage of Miss Jane Austen, Collins Hemingway brings a beautiful end to the story of Jane and husband Ashton Dennis. This volume is the most heart wrenching, dark and most devastating. Without giving away the tragic details, the story is beautifully imagined on what Jane Austen's life might be during 1802-1809 where not much were chronicled and considered the "missing years". This volume does begin 4 months after Jane delivers a baby boy George at the age of 31 years old. This was also a time in England where there was political unrest and the Napoleonic war is upon them.

Collins Hemingway writes a masterful imagination that explores creative ingenuity of what would be like with Jane married with a child. The story delves with amazing detail of the intimate life of this famous writer of Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Northanger Abbey. As I was reading this, the beautiful prose and language, the historical detail and creativity transported me back to Austen's world where strong women with opinion were considered unimaginable. I could not put this book down and devoured it with so much joy and satisfaction. What an amazing book to read for any fans of Jane Austen, British Literature and Historical Fiction.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this ebook which I received from the author. All views expressed are my honest and objective opinion. Thank you HFVBT for introducing me to this book and author.

Hemingway, much to my surprise, messaged me on Goodreads after reading my review of Volume II; he answered the questions I had posed about the novel and was generally very kind. A big thank you to him for that!

After feeling upon concluding the second volume that Hemingway's Jane was veering off into an unrealistic version of herself, convinced of the importance of the role of wife/mother over that of author, I admit this concluding installment entirely redeemed the trilogy for me. Jane and Ashton's son proves to be deaf, something which sets them at odds with each other; George later dies. It was tragic and heartbreaking, but it removed the "mother" impediment which I believed Jane was facing. She then follows Ashton to the Continent for his participation in the fight against Napoleon. He is in the middle of a violent explosion and is left shattered, barely hanging to life. After bringing him home and nursing him, Jane realizes the way to best show him her love is to help him die. Again, tragic and heartbreaking, but it removes the other impediment of "wife." I was impressed by my ultimate realization that Hemingway, by the trilogy's end, was able to insert this whole phase of Austen's life into the factual timeline of her real life. She ends the beloved author we Janeites know and love, all the while having had these experiences, at least fictionally, that we all believe she never knew. A great trilogy, and a great accomplishment.

Another beautifully written and well researched book that is the finale of Jane Austen's 'missing years'. It has been a provocative series that delves further into Jane and Ashton's marriage, their son, George, and the Napoleonic war. It is heartbreaking, thought-provoking and at times gut-wrenching.

"Life is risk my love. To end risk is to end life." (quote from the book)

I also have come to realize why I couldn't embrace some of the scenarios within the last two volumes in general. I believe it is due to the 'mythical proportions' of Jane Austen's persona. Yes, she, like all of us, are flawed. But the reverence with which I hold her in, hampers my ability to see her in this way. I don't want to write which scenarios these are, as I feel each person will have different reactions or feelings toward the story, and to impose my own in this case would not be right.

In this 3rd volume of The Marriage of Miss Jane Austen, Collins Hemingway has totally convinced me that he knew Jane Austen. As a wife, a mother, a woman who knew great happiness and even greater sadness. Through his words I felt her exhaustion as she cared for her infant son, her concern when he became ill, and her devastation when she thought he might not recover. I also witnessed her happiness and her struggles in her marriage to Ashton Dennis. Hemingway has crafted a story that tugged at my heartstrings and made me forget what was truth and what was fiction in this look at the 'lost years of Jane Austen.' Isn't this what all authors hope to achieve?

*I received a copy of Collins Hemingway’s The Marriage of Miss Jane Austen Vol III through Historical Fiction Virtual Book Tours for review purposes. As always, this review reflects only my honest thoughts on the book.*

Having completed this trilogy, I’ve almost retitled this novel in my mind: The Tragedy of Miss Jane Austen. Indeed, the conclusion of this series reminded me of Shakespeare’s most sorrowful works. This made it all the more compelling: as much as I wanted to conclude the series to learn of what would happen, I couldn’t look away if I’d wanted to. As the reader, I too had to grieve with Jane through loss and despair.

The Marriage of Miss Jane Austen Vol III is perhaps the most powerful of the books in the series. I’ve always been drawn to Jane Austen the person, and books one and two drew me into her romance; book three drew me into a deep sense of empathy.

The Stunning Finale to Jane Austen’s Saga

In the moving conclusion The Marriage of Miss Jane Austen, VOL. III, Hemingway continues his riveting storyline of Austen’s activities from 1807 to 1809
The novel picks up four months after Jane has successfully delivered a baby boy named, George. Hemingway’s Jane is a realistic woman dealing with the challenges of motherhood and running a household. When a series of personal tragedies threatened the heart and marriage of Mrs. Austen. Jane and her husband struggle with the extent of their sons illness. This turmoil will put a wedge between the married couple. This was also a time in England where there was political unrest and the Napoleonic war is at their door step.

A dramatic last installment to popular series by Collins Hemingway with stunning atmospheric details that transports the reader to nineteenth century England. This is by far was my favorite of the three books in Hemingway’s in imagined alternate life of Mrs Jane Austen. Wonderfully depicted in regency period details with three dimensional characters, along with the authors strong narration carries you all the way through to the end.

When things dramatically change for Jane and her husband, Hemingway’s immersive characters become more fleshed out developed. The writing is fluid, and eloquent, with engaging dialogue, and notable sub-characters. An intriguing plot involving a series of challenges and misfortunes makes for an emotionally charged page turner of a book.

“In marriage, every decision required the consent of just one partner, and that partner would never be her. Not because the husband was smarter or better informed but because he was not the wife.”

It's impossible to review The Marriage of Miss Jane Austen Vol. III by Collins Hemingway without spoilers from Volume I and II. So if you've not had the opportunity to read the first two volumes yet, I would direct you to check out my review of Volume I and Volume II first to avoid spoilers.

Authors like Austen and Bronte are often commented on writing so poignantly about love without having much experience in this area of their lives. What if she did, though. What if she had an earth-shattering love. How might that have affected her life and writing. Collins Hemingway explores that in his series The Marriage of Miss Jane Austen.

Volume III begins after the birth of Jane and Ashton's son George. The couple is still trying to find their way back to one another as couples do after the birth of a child. Their world is consumed by their precious boy and a meddling mother-in-law. The couple does their best to reconnect but their world is plagued by trials and tribulations.

I read this book with both excitement and trepidation. Excitement because I have enjoyed reading the first two volumes of this series, and I couldn't wait to see how Hemingway ended this series. Trepidation because I'm familiar with Austen's life, and I wondered how close the author would stick to her biography. Without spoiling the ending, Hemingway gave this series the ending that was most fitting to the storyline.

Looking back at the series as a whole, Hemingway did an excellent job of portraying a 'what if' scenario about Jane Austen's life. He blends fact into fiction so smoothly that you want it to be real. The Marriage of Miss Jane Austen series will having you falling in love with Jane all over again. It will break your heart, but also leave you wanting more.

I had to have the conclusion to this series . . .

Was a not miss if you had read the previous books. This was a serious journey in one woman's life of what may have been, could have been, and as far as we are concerned this was what her life was from the viewpoint were were given. The trilogy was well researched. Detailed. Thought-out. You could feel the realism. I felt like I was a spectator of Jane Austen's life. I had a front row seat to the way things unfolded. I have added this trilogy to my collection of Austen's books as a to read again. This collection was a way for me to visit Ms. Austen's time period and experience the things she had as she was creating a legacy for us to all enjoy at some point in time. I found reasons to fall in love with her and her works all over again.
