The Lost Child

Rate this book
What if you were holding your daughter’s hand, and then you bent down to discover it was another child?
An hour ago, Emma’s six-year-old daughter entered the busy underground, and she was holding her mother’s hand. The police don’t believe her; they think that she’s back on drugs. There were no witnesses and nothing tails in with Emma’s tale of events.
Emma only wants her daughter back, but she’s being charged with kidnapping a child and killing her own.
Emma’s caught up in a web of lies. Her only chance of survival is silence and her best friend, Will. The man that she hurt so many years ago. She believes that he’ll unravel the truth and find her daughter.
Time is ticking, and the question remains; If she was holding a child's hand, who's holding her daughter’s?

I volunteered to read an ARC copy of this book. I enjoyed the characters and storyline. It was an interesting story, but there we're some annoying parts.

I really wanted to like Lost Child but found myself struggling with the way the author went back and forth between characters and time. She tried to tell us who and when each chapter was focused on but sometimes she forgot to tell us who was telling us information in a chapter.

The blurb made it sound like a mystery but everyone except the police seemed to know what was going on and who had masterminded the kidnapping except the police. The police in this story are all a bunch of idiots. It was really hard to feel sorry for anyone in this story other than the 2 little girls for having a bunch of self-centered, self-serving idiots in their lives. There was only one other person that I had any empathy for and he was not even in the story much until the end. Will is mentioned throughout the story as the jilted friend but doesn't actually make an appearance until near the end. He is the only person who is someone I like and can feel anything for out of all of the adults in the book.

I didn't really care what happened to the other characters at all as they all kind of got themselves into this mess and deserved whatever bad karma came their way. I also did not find any real gripping twists as everything was pretty obvious.
I am leaving this review voluntarily after receiving a free ARC copy of the book.

Voluntary review of an ARC. Great premise for a book, but it went astray somewhere along the way. The writing style of going back and forth between characters was confusing especially since Li's chapters weren't labeled. I thought the ending was a little too predictable and somewhat abrupt, although it did have a little twist at the very end. Many typos and bad grammar didn't help. The book held my attention for the most part and I would consider reading another by this author.

A suspense with twists and turns that will keep you guessing what's going to happen next. This is the first book I've read by P.O. Taylor. I voluntarily received this book to review for my honest opinion.

Started out okay, but there was zero suspense as the villain was easily identified early on. Also, who edit's these books? There were so many spelling and grammatical errors I thought I was reading a high school English paper.

This is my first time reading this author, but it won’t be my last. This plot is great, and each character adds another layer of mystery and intrigue to it. The suspense and intrigue continue throughout.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Pretty predictable

This wasn’t as gripping as the title and description makes it out to be. Also, there’s tons of misspellings and grammatical errors.

Twisted

It was easy to see who was the culprit and I went along till the very last couple pages and that was twisted.

One minute, Emma is holding her daughter's hand; the next minute, she is holding the hand of another child. Where did her daughter go? How can she ever get anyone to believe her? She trust that Will can find the answers, but will it be soon enough? This story was a gripping tale of angst and mystery. I enjoyed it, and I do recommend it.

The Lost Child was a very intense story of an unfaithful husband, his crazed mistress, the unhappy wife and the children who were caught in the middle. Told from varying points of view, this made the story more complete but was occasionally a bit confusing as well. Most of the chapters were marked as to whose viewpoint it was representing but some chapters were not so it took a bit of reading to figure it out. I would have preferred for all chapters to have been marked accordingly. The only other off-putting point about this book for me was the excessive use of foul language. At one point, I considered not finishing the book because of the language, but since i was involved in the storyline, I did my best to overlook and continue. All in all, I felt it was a good book.
