On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave me a kiss...on the cheek.
On the second day, she gave me a cup of coffee. (Actually, I shared hers as we drove to work.)
On the third day, I told her she's still as hot as when we first fell in love all those years ago. (What? Are women not supposed to call each other hot?)
On the fourth day, I dared her to kiss me for real.
On the fifth day, the dare began to get out of hand...
It all adds up when two scientists rekindle the spark in this lesbian holiday romance.
Siri Caldwell does not believe in waiting for frogs to turn into princesses, because frogs are cute the way they are. Her fun lesbian romance novels have finaled in the Lambda Literary, Golden Crown Literary Society, and Rainbow awards.
Don't be put off by the badly written summary which makes this book look like nothing more than a cheap erotic novel.
This couldn't be further from the truth. Yes, there's smut in it. But there's so much more! This book is about a couple in a long-term relationship that has somewhat lost its spark over the years and their effort to make that relationship passionate again.
Kendra and Viv have great chemistry and their love for each other is palpable. I love their conversations and intimacy. They are both fleshed out characters and feel real. It's nice to read about middle-aged women in a story which is not about kids or pregnancy for a change.
If you're looking for a funny and heart-warming lesbian Christmas story you should definitely pick it up.
Also somewhat realistic. Basically what happens when a long time couple who do still adore eachother emotionally and physically, but just let life get in the way.
Kendra sets a challenge to Viv. The alternative, inappropriate twelve days of Christmas. A Competition. Who can make the other person come twelve times first.
Both women are scientists, and utterly geeky and consumed with their hard work at the university and cute little debates together. They find they've let themselves go months without intimacy and regret it, but in trying to reignite the flame, life, work and their own brains get in the way.
It was charming and amusing, and relatable seeing the long term couple deal with those normal long term couple issues. How your brain won't stop working even when you're trying to remain 'in the moment', how you take for granted that intimate contact, the interruptions that pull you out of the mood, also how as you age, just getting down and up again and holding a position can be an issue. Yeah you get the drift. lol.
Honestly I was delighted to see a more realistic portrayal of sex and intimacy, and have it around Christmas just made it more amusing. https://www.amazon.com/Mistletoe-Mish...
When an author asks me to review their books I am always filled with wonder and a whole lot of trepidation. I want to do their book justice in my review but even more so I want to be wholeheartedly honest as well. It’s so hard when a book is not my cup of tea, and thankfully Mistletoe Mishap makes this review a cake walk. So good and delightfully cute, this book is an absolute gem of a read.
Viv and Kendra have been together for years. In that time they have had lust, romance, bucket loads of love but the last four months they have hit a bit of a rut when it comes to sexy time. After a caller on the radio suggests she is going to ask her fiancé to wait six months till the wedding night to have any bedroom activities this gets a conversation flowing and an acknowledgment of said sexy time rut. Kendra in a fun loving way challenges her beloved Viv to a contest of who can make the other, well you know, the most number of times.
When ensues is a delightful story full of fun, mischief and a lot of witty banter. It’s no easy feat for a writer to tackle an established couple, but Siri Caldwell does and she does it so well. This is a fun-loving book that is so adorable it will just melt your heart. You want this in your life! 4.25 stars
I was expecting this to be lesbian Christmas erotica, which would have been fine, but this actually has more nuance than I was expecting! Viv and Kendra are married, and their sex life has fizzled out a bit. Mistletoe Mishap deals with Kendra trying to reintroduce sex to the relationship, and trying to negotiate their physical relationship. I appreciated that this acknowledges that it's easy to fall into a rut in a relationship, and that it can even be a bit awkward to try to regain it. It's also nice to have a romance between two women who are not teens or twenty-somethings. They're also both scientists! It's not discussed a lot, but there's an undercurrent to the plot about being semi-closeted and how that affects their relationship. There's a lot going on for an erotica novella! In fact, despite the premise, I would call this more of a romance. There are sex scenes, but they aren't as much the focus as their relationship in general is. I really liked this!
Brilliant! I fell in love with Viv and Kendra. This is a wonderful feel-good holiday read featuring a long-term couple in a friendly 12-days of Christmas themed competition. I plan to make reading this an annual holiday tradition.
I actually like this book alot. Both main characters are likable and i really like them both, especially Viv tbh. They both, somehow, got into a rut and didn’t really touch or not at all with each other any more for 2 or 4 months(?), but they still love each other. And yeah then Kendra try get them out of the rut by introduce the 12 days christmas game thing and the story move on. Both of them are adorable together, especially their intimacy, their closeness, i somehow can feel they are being cosy together. This is a sweet novella book, though it’s not really erotica but I still really enjoy it.
A really sweet, short read that despite its length managed to communicate a longstanding relationship, the closeness this bring, but also some of the distance too. It has some great dialogue and lots of love.
I loved the first two books I read by this author, and liked this short novel. The first two books were part of the same series, and a fantasy one at that. This story here is a short story set during Christmas time involving two older women who have been an established couple for something like 25 years. I rarely come across a story that involve two of those data points: older women, and established couple, and I love that both data points are in this story here.
You know that 12 days of Christmas song? Well this is a . . . gah, distracted myself. This song is from 1780? Huh. Right. So this story here is a naughty lesbian version of that song. The previously mentioned established couple are going to have a competition – the first one to give the other 12 orgasms wins. They only get one chance a day. Course, after first day with the score tied 0-0, they realized they would need to adjust the competition a little. So they did.
Both women are professors at a particular university, one is a professor of Immunology, while the other is a Geologist. One is more into the holiday spirit than the other, and one is more into showing displays of affection in public (and knows the other is not, so let’s them guide when, where, if public displays occur). Judging by a comment about getting into bed, both appear to be short-ish, that or they have a really tall bed (and I’ve seen some super tall beds).
Wow I’ve gotten worse with review writing as the years have wandered along. Mmphs.
Well, I enjoyed this work, just not as much as the two previous works. I cannot, at the moment, think of anything that would be a negative, that would have depressed the rating, but I also cannot think of anything that would have pushed the rating into the 5 star range.
A lovely little holiday reading around Christmas time! Here we meet two middle-aged college lecturers who have been together for a long time. To spice up their sex life, they take up a 12 night Christmas challenge. We follow their journey as they attempt to take on the bet!
This is a very funny and entertaining novella ideal for a Christmas holidays read. It is a refreshing departure from the typical lesfic plot to see that the main characters are middle aged women scientists in a long term relationship. On a whim, they decide to spice up their sex life through a bet that happens around Christmas time. What follows is a series of witty dialogues, funny situations and hot scenes that entertains the reader till the end. Ms. Caldwell excels at creating a believable couple with their set routines, quirky behaviour and obsession to follow the scientific method but, at the same time, surrounded by strong love and beautiful intimacy. Skilfully written, this novella has it all for an entertaining holiday read. 'Mistletoe Mishap' goes straight to my recommended Christmas lesfic books list (https://lezreviewbooks.wordpress.com/...).
Overall, a funny and witty Christmas rom com. 4.5 stars.
ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
The everyday realities of life and the inconveniences of aging often stands in the way of getting intimate. The excitement and the passion starts to drift away after so many years together. Kendra wants to reconnect and strengthen their relationship. A twelve days challenge should be the solution. Both are very competitive and both want to win. The rules are very simple. Or not! I loved how they give a boost to their libido, how they use all kinds of tricks. It was clumsy, sweet and very funny. It's all written with a large dose of humor and I will certainly read more from this author.
Twelve days of Christmas will be looked at differently in the future. This was a fun story that bears re-reading each year. Siri Caldwell did a good job on this fun twist of the 12 days of Christmas.
This was short and will probably fail to be memorable, BUT it is well-written, finally here's a book about a longtime couple, and the couple dynamics are relatable in that they are a bit unbalanced (one person craving the other one's touch more).
Still... it's meant to be a little sexy but that completely missed the mark for me- I just thought it was all a rather complicated deal. Also, I thought Viv was a bit cold, I didn't get to know her and her side of the story. Which brings me to: this book is narrated in third person but only from one person's view. IMO this would have worked way better in first person.
So yeah. I'd like to read more about longtime romance, but this didn't *quite* scratch that itch.
This novella is wonderful, and it had so many of my favorite things: f/f, mature characters already in an established relationship who grapple with the barnacles that collected between them over the years. The writing is beautiful, and the only thing I wanted a little more of was a better sense of how Viv was affected by those barnacles and Kendra's ideas to remove them. I suppose I'll just have to read it again and pay more attention to Viv's dialogue.
I re read this book occasionally. I always enjoy it immensely. It has a quite humour... nothing forced. Two delightful people still happy together in a long term relationship. Very grown up. I love it.
