When Loki becomes a necessary evil in the protection of both Jenna and his fellow Asgardians, the bond between Jenna and Bren is tested. Now, with a power struggle brewing between worlds and the wrath of the elders thundering on the horizon, Jenna must once again face the possibility of losing Bren...one way or another.

I've been waiting for this sequel and read it in one night. It's even better than the first. There is more mythology and a lot of action. I like that the relationships between the characters aren't melodramatic...it's the detail in their interactions that create all the tension. This series is really unique. Snowboarding Norse gods is an awesome concept. The writing is solid. Also...great cover! Excellent read.
This is the second book in the series and I really enjoyed it. As I already said, Bren/Ullr is becoming my second favorite Asgardian (I am still a true Loki fan/addict). It is interesting to see the Norse mythology came into play in this book.
I like that Jenna is finally growing up, I do keep forgetting that she is a teenager and not an adult when she makes some of her decisions. But that is why the book is interesting, because you can see things through her teenage eyes and how her mind works. It gives the book a fresh perspective. I am glad that there is no cliffhanger but also that the story does leave the reader with the prospect that there is more to come. If you don’t want to read the next one (I hope that there is a next one), then you can just stop here. I am truly getting tired of cliffhangers and love authors who tie up the ending without a cliffhanger but still leave you wanting more. This book has a lot to offer the reader in terms of adventure, mystery, relationships, teenage angst, and mythology.
Great book...this sequel was even better! I'm a huge Fenrir fan, and an even bigger Loki fan. I love the idea of a YA romance that is still really smart and full of action. There is also a lot of interesting mythology in this one, which is really cool because beyond the most famous Norse gods there's not much out there on this stuff. Waiting for the next book!
Here I am with the second book in the "Winter Fire" series done!
What can I say for such a short book? Maybe that it needed to be longer? Or loose some of the unnecessary meandering with Jenna's self hate in regards to how she feels about the whole situation?...Yeah, you guessed it..I didn't like this book as much as the first one.
On a brighter note, the meandering is my only complain! The relationship between characters gets more complicated and nuanced; Loki is awesomely portrait(in my opinion>..>); Jenna sees some problems with her image of Bren (thank god!) and we get more norse mythology! I'm happy to say I enjoyed the ending mainly for the fact that, in this way, the author avoids the pitfall noun as will-they-won't-they with the returning to Asgard subject. We also got a major scene with what the elders were prepared to do in order to get the fugitives back, so I think the decision with Bren at the end was perfect! I'm also grateful Jenna thought of Loki and how to help him stay safe! ^^ Right there is a nice, tension filled, friendship taking roots!
I will not repeat here what I said in the first book's review. All of those remarks about plot, pacing, etc. are valid. I wish in the later books, Jenna reconnects with her mother a little...feels like a beginning of 'no parent syndrome' here, I won't gonna lie..>...> And that she matures a little bit..just a little(I'm too old and unwilling to understand a 17 year old for much longer in her internal battle with some imaginary fow like lack of self esteem)
With all these things mentioned, I still liked the sequel and I really want to see how it progresses. It's a nice continuation centered on Jenna's inner demons about the situation she's put into, and I'm willing to go on this journey.
Still a nice palatte cleanser, but maybe don't read it back to back?0_0
Worth reading in one night. Got to get the next book in line🤗
Where to start without ruining any of the surprises? Hmmm🤭 Loved this #2 book, 'Hailstorm' in the "Winter Fire Series." Enjoyed it so much that I couldn't stop reading until the finish line. Fulfillment of adventure, sweet puppy love, self-sacrificing for real friendship, and best of all was when Loki is portrayed as the good guy for once. Now, I'm really hungry for the #3 book, 'Aurora.' Looking forward to catching up with all the gang and the ditsy teen called, Jenna. How does Loki put up with her? Must be amused by her quarky actions and good-hearted characteristics.
