Casey Jones Mysteries #1-6

Casey Jones Mysteries Vol. 1-6

Rate this book
“Casey Jones joins the ranks of smart and gutsy heroines. The South will never be the same. Don't miss her.” —Janet Evanovich

“Fast-paced and action-packed...The charm here lies in Munger's writing, which is silky-smooth and packs a wallop.” I Love a Mystery

“She is smart, tough, and tenacious... a wonderfully entertaining read.” —Publisher’s Weekly

Casey Jones cannot be beat for rowdy, action-packed adventures with humor, romance, and hard-boiled mayhem aplenty. She’s hot, she’s hilarious, and she’s so headstrong her quasi-boss Bobby D. can only shake his massive head and do as the lady says.
The hot and hilarious parts go hand-in-hand as the plus-size detective fantasizes her way through a small army of possible inamoratos, now and then anointing one or another, although always off the page and always accompanied by a wisecrack or three.
(“I feel like I’ve been in a train wreck,” says one.
“Of course you do,” replies his lovely date. “Why do you think they call me Casey Jones?”)

LEGWORK, Vol. 1
Author Munger masterfully blends nail-biting suspense with Casey’s hilarious wisecracking narration as she navigates an unsavory southern stew of crooked politicians, crooked cops, old grudges, ancient crimes, and everyone’s favorite, dysfunctional families.

OUT OF TIME, Vol. 2
The family of a death row inmate just isn’t buying the story that she killed her cop husband, and they’ve hired North Carolina’s mouthiest female sleuth to save her from lethal injection—in only a month.

MONEY TO BURN, Vol. 3
When a favorite client gets killed on her watch, Casey vows to find the killer no matter what killers, arsonists, rapists, and spoiled rotten socialites get in her way. Then, to the cynical sleuth’s chagrin—everyone all around her starts falling in love…just before Casey herself is smitten.
BAD TO THE BONE, Vol. 4

BAD TO THE BONE is a rowdy, action-packed adventure with humor, romance, and hard-boiled mayhem aplenty. Its two greatest delights are its vivid antagonists, the big-hearted, tough PI and the petite, pernicious femme fatale, locked in a catfight that should have its own arena.

BETTER OFF DEAD, Vol. 5
Along with their significant others and the gardener, Casey and her oversize partner, Bobby, move in with a rape victim who’s receiving threatening phone calls. The victim knows exactly who attacked her, was tried for it, got away with it and who, she’s sure, is still getting away with it.

BAD MOON ON THE RISE, Vol. 6
Casey follows the trail of a missing basketball star to a prison town in the North Carolina mountains. In order to help out the very hot local sheriff investigate suspicious goings-on in the prison, Casey agrees to be locked up for a week inside a prison once again. Watch for the all-time best ever laugh-out-loud prison break!

Always a rip-roaring romp, these page-turners will appeal to fans of all female sleuth mysteries —private eyes like Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Millhone, Sara Paretsky’s V.I. Warshawski, Laura Lippman’s Tess Monaghan, Marcia Muller’s Sharon McCone, and Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum, as well as their tough and witty male antecedents. If you ever flipped over Philip Marlowe, Spenser, or of course, the immortal Wolfe and his buddy Archie, you’ll fall in love with their direct descendant, Casey Jones, Private Eye.

CUTE AND HIGHLY ENTERTAINING ADVENTURES

It took a couple of chapters before I really starting getting into this author's writing techniques. Found the characters were colorful and very graphic. After reading several books into this series found several of these characters to be lovable and so very necessary to the success of these stories. The concept of a Private Investigation Agency ends up as the perfect format for the hi-jinks stories.

I loved these books. Casey is a real person with faults and personality in her looks. She makes me think that there's hope for me. Her body's not perfect her attitude is not perfect she's real. Hopefully Miss Munger we'll keep up the good work with these books and her stories.

It's nice to read a book that the heroine isn't Young and Beautiful with a perfect figure. Thank you Miss Munger.

Wow! I just finished chain reading these books and loved them. Casey Jones is a great character who doesn't need a man, but will enjoy them if she wants to. She was smart, principled and daring. The stories had humor and a good mystery to be solved. I will definitely read more by this author. There is bad language and promiscuity, so don't read these if that offends you. No detailed sex scenes.

Laugh out loud enjoyable

Great characters and story line. The main character, Casey, is a unique, believable and hilarious P.I. with tenacity and grit totally human with her own insecurities, self doubts while comfortable in her sexuality. Her business partner and friend is a large likable fellow with his own charm. You'll love this series.

Casey Jones: A one woman train wreck

I have to say I really enjoyed all 6 books in this series. I wasn’t too sure when I started reading the first one but they really reminded me of Sue Grafton’s Alphabet murders and Casey reminded need me of Kinsey Milhone. I kept reading and I’m glad I did. I would recommend these books to other Sue Grafton fans.

Fabulous

Boxed sets are boring EXCEPT THIS ONE.
I have read five novels in a row all staring Casey and not once felt bored.
The characters are full, dimesioned and likeable, the plots are feasible and well told.
The telling never bogs the tension seldom ceases
My only complaint is there were only five novels in the set.

Funny Fun Fabulous

Casey Jones is not your make believe ultra thin toothpick Barbie doll. I loved her wise cracks both inside and outside her head. There were a few moments that I had to laugh out loud. Okay I snorted too. I read the entire series loved every minute. The mental pictures of the characters will stay with me for a long time.

A fun series with a main character to love - she's middle aged, overweight, not pretty and has to hide her past as she works as a private investigator without a license. Her partner is another unusual character who downs a dozen Krispy Kremes while on the phone. Yet this unlikely pair manage to solve crimes and save each other when the chips are down.

Amazing series

This was a fantastic series that I really enjoyed. There’s not much missing from these books and I will them. Each book was so complex and delved deep into the murders and mystery. Casey had a colorful love life but it fit her personality.

Great stories

Katy Munger just might be my new favorite author! Her characters are real, and her sense of humor is magnificent. Laughed out loud several times, and was so glad when Casey Jones and her band of cops, robbers, and others saved the day.

Good

I haven't met a better character as Casey. Katy Munger is a true storyteller. She makes her characters real as life. I so enjoyed her writing. I will definitely read all her books

Excellent series!

I can honestly say I laughed my way thru all six books. Casey is so witty and sarcastic, that you sometimes overlook how smart she is. She goes through men like a sack of candy. Katy Munger has such talent that you will all like this series.

The perfect imperfect heroine

A great series. Not dark and sinister, and not too fluffy. Real people, real life problems; friends and family willing to step up do the right thing to help Casey save the day in each case.😀

Better than binge watching

Read all 6 in a week ,just couldn't put them down. Each one is different and complete. Laughed and even cried. This could become a tv series . Such interesting characters not only with their personality but also description on their looks and size.

Fun book

I enjoyed this book because it was fun to see how she would get out of her predicament. I enjoyed the way she could get herself into all kinds of things and get the job done.

Gritty, fast-paced, non-stop action

I raced through this collection. I love Casey Jones for all her foibles and idiosyncrasies. The narrative is easy to read and doesn't get irritating like so many others I have read. Every word counts.

Great series!

I love Casey Jones, she is one of my favorite characters! Very similar to Stephanie Plum, but a country girl! Bobby D is pretty great too, the stories are well written and kept me thoroughly entertained!

This series of books are unputdownable! Casey is a fantastic character with a whole lot of layers to her. The other main-ish characters are great as are the characters who only appear in one book. I might just read them again very soon.

This six book series follows Casey Jones' career as a PI-or rather acting as a PI for licensed PI Bobby D. Casey is in her 30's and tough as nails-with muscles and thunder thighs made for getting the best of her opponents. As the books progress so do the sexual partners of Casey Jones along with the pounds that keep increasing her size. For all her social faux pas, Casey has good instincts, great ideas, and no shortage of nerve. Each book in the series has a different theme, from hired bodyguard to a political candidate, to solving multiple rape cases on a college campus, to drug dealers, being voluntarily put in prison to figure out what is rotten, and rescuing a minor from a fortified compound in the mountains of North Carolina. Casey's values may deviate from your own, but she always does what she promises for a client. She is a loyal friend to her 300 pound plus partner, and manages to stay ahead of the law.
The books are fascinating, fast paced, and diverse crimes and conclusions keep you guessing all the way to the last page. Not for the person who wants a pure as snow Pollyanna character. This is a series written about the nitty gritty criminals, Casey's unique way of solving murder and mayhem, loyalty to friends, and topics you could never anticipate. Sold as a complete set, you won't want to stop reading until you have read them all!

Great Mystery Set!!

Casey is the Private Investigator who is very smart. She helps the police solve crimes as well as her own cases. She has a mouth that gets her into trouble at times. She needs no one except in a jam and is extremely independent. Her partner is Bobby D. He is a big man who is constantly eating. He is a ladies man some how lol. He goes for those that have money. He has a lot of connections to help Casey get access to places or people who can help along the way. He doesn't go out of the office with Casey unless it is a last resort. Casey has a friend Marcus at the police department that is like her personal confidential informant. With the info he is able to get for her she can put pieces together or find leads that help her along the way to get to the criminals. She has a few other friends that will also help her out when needed. The plots are different in each book, but the main characters continue in each new mystery. enjoyed each book and will continue to look for additions to this series. The author is detailed, humorous, and keeps you guessing!!

Well, bless your heart!

That phrase as every woman and maybe a few men in the South knows, can mean anything from its exact words, to F*** You and the horse you rode in on. These books to me back to the South I grew up in 70 odd years ago. They also remind me of everything I love and hate about it. I was born in Georgia, not far from the Florida border and grew up in Georgia and Florida. If you want a taste of the real South, read these books. Casey Jones is a mixture of all the women I knew. She is a pain in the butt, likes her alcohol and men a little too much, is derisive of the wimpy Southern, batt your eyelashes ,I'm so helpless, little lady of the South. Those gals are tough as shoe leather, not dumb and dangerous as a rattlesnake. Casey has issues and they are irritating, but she is also pure gold. Read the entire set and be patient with her. She grows on you. Thanks for the memories.

I admit it took me a little while to get into this series of books. I initially found Casey brash and a little unpleasant. The way she described the men in her life rather rubbed me the wrong way (if the same phrases were used to describe women there would be complete uproar). But the story was good, and the characters were well described and amusing, so I carried on to the next book, and the next. I was hooked. The more I read the more I rooted for Casey, the people she cared for, all flawed but genuine, and the continual mess that was her personal life. You can't help but stick with her through the ups and downs. I thoroughly recommend this series, and hope there will be more of Casey Jones in the future.

Very entertaining

She describes herself as white trash with thunder thighs. She grew up very poor. Both parents died in a crash. Her hard-working grandfather raised her. He taught her how to shoot very accurately. She married a drug addict and dealer and was sent to jail taking the blame for him. So with a criminal record she operated as a private investigator with fake papers and was illegally armed. These five stories were interlinked but all different. Her morals were non-existent but she had a good heart and was very good at what she did. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series.

I finished the entire series of 6. After the first or second, I wasn't sure whether I would continue, but it kept drawing me back.

Each of the stories was interesting and well drawn out, even if there were typos, etc along the way.

I am not entirely sure I like the main character, Casey Jones. I guess the point of the books was to show what a woman would act like that was sexually promiscuous, and 'in charge' of her life. I know that this means being equal to a man, but really it just shows bad character.

WOW ! What a ride !!

Wow, I have to say "Casey" is a woman to be admired ! this series has been so much FUN to read !! How does Casey connect with so many people, so deeply, and she is able to repay all the favors she calls for .... amazing !! I look forward to finding the rest of the books in this series, building a fire , making some hot tea and reading them all in one night !!!!

A terrific variety of action busting stories with a pseudo P.I. and her over indulgent cuisine lovingboss.

This girl is the most outrageous flirt with a 'man in every port'. A hilarious series of escapades with an apparently unlicensed P.I. and her obese boss who together mansge to run a most extraordinsry detective agency. This series of shorter adventures are really entertaining as well as suspense filled at times. Highly recommended read.

The characters are okay, although not very believable. The stories are okay, but again, not very realistic. The proofreading is absolutely horrendous! How and anybody write so many books with so many mistakes? The constant distraction of trying to figure out what was meant rather than what was actually written completely ruined the flow of the stories for me. *See my 25 highlights, with accompanying notes, for examples of some of the errors.

Tons of fun

This series was a ton of fun to great. The heroine is a thirty something with black roots, some ponds on her frame, and a propensity for getting into some crazy situations. Not a curse word one, no outrageous sex scenes make for a PG set of stories, with some laugh out loud moments as well as cringe worthy predicaments. Some editing errors, (the year of her car changed from book to book) and some typos, but all said I would still recommend.
