When the Georgio's Perfume crew, including her ex-fiancé Jacob, show up in Port Danby for a photo shoot, Lacey is taken by surprise. But their unexpected arrival is nothing compared to the shock of what happens next. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, Lacey 'Pink' Pinkerton finds herself caught up in another unexpected murder mystery.
Book 4 of the Port Danby Cozy Mystery Series. Each book can be read as a standalone but they are best read in order.
1. Marigolds and Murder 2. Carnations and Chaos 3. Mistletoe and Mayhem 4. Roses and Revenge
I’m admitting to myself that this isn’t the cozy mystery series for me and it is a relief to cross this off my tbr.
This book took me waaay to long to get through and that was because I just wasn’t interested. I don’t like the main character. And I couldn’t care less about her love triangle or the rude things she consistently thinks about the females in her life. I don’t care about the long running mystery with the old manor house murders that goes on throughout the series. Also this book threw in some weird supernatural thing out of the blue to try and tie this book to the author’s other series and it just didn’t work. AND the culprit of this particular book was obviously guilty from the moment they entered the story. But the motive they had was just ridiculous.
Anyway…the author’s writing is good and I definitely think she has potential in this genre but this series is 100% not for me. I can’t continue in a cozy mystery series when I can’t stand the main character.
4.5 stars Roses and Revenge is the fourth book in the Port Danby series by London Lovett and perfect for February with a Valentine’s theme. In this installation of this cozy mystery series, Lacey “Pink” Pinkerton is surprised when her ex-fiancée and former boss, and his renowned perfume company show up in town for a photo shoot at the hauntingly atmospheric Hawksworth Manor.
After a bit of visiting and catching up with her former employees and friends, Lacey and the Georgio perfumery crew are shocked when a member is found dead on set. Though Lacey plays an initial role in the investigation with her super sleuthing nose, it’s determined that she’s far too close and connected to the suspects, but that won’t stop a curious mind! Set amongst Valentine’s bouquets, next door chocolate shop treats, and the wooing of the friends and possibly would-be suitors, love and murder are in the air!
What's Valentine's Day without a little murder and suspicion thrown on people Lacey knew in her other life? You know, the life before Port Danby. As it turns out, having the ex-fiancé accused of killing someone they both knew is a little jarring.
More to the point, having her ex show up in town without notice (already throwing her off her game a little) AND THEN getting accused of said murder has Lacey putting her back up. She might have broken things off with the guy, but she's not the type of person to let things lie when she can do something about it.
Even if it means helping her cheating ex beat a murder rap.
Murder, mayhem, and betrayal. Just another week in Port Danby. (and I'm still loving it!)
Port Danby Cozy Mystery Series Review Books Two – Five Carnations & Chaos #2; Mistletoe & Mayhem #3 Roses & Revenge #4; Tulips & Trouble #5 London Lovett Wild Fox Press Full-length novels (50,000 words) Contemporary Cozy Mystery
Roses and Revenge #4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Giorgio Perfume and Pink’s former fiance are shooting a commercial at the old mansion when someone is murdered. Detective Briggs’ needs the assistance of Pink and her Million Dollar nose again to sort through all the clues and red herrings and track down the killer.
Tulips and Trouble #5 ⭐⭐⭐🌙 While the town prepares for its annual flea market, mischief surfaces and an artist disappears and then turns up murdered. Pink and her nose once again come to Detective Briggs’ aid as they put their findings together and come up with the right answer, but not before the killer targets Pink.
I love the covers of this series. The author pic at the top is adorable. The picture of the town of Port Danby is awesome as it changes on each book with the season of the story. Then the title box at the bottom always has the appropriate flowers in it from the story as well. They are subtly colored by on the bright side. I’m pretty sure this is a girly thing. Sorry.
The regular characters of the series are developing quite nicely up to this point and the relationships are getting interesting if a bit predictable. Sometimes if it weren’t for Pink’s nose picking up some elusive scent where it shouldn’t be, there would be no resolution to these crimes. Detective Briggs seems to be a bit clueless sometimes as he doesn’t seem to contribute much in the way of findings. I suppose that’s only to be expected given the way the author has the series set up. I’d like to see a bit more intelligence from him, though. See him connect the dots once in the while, even if she’s the one who found them. I’ve read the first half of what’s currently been published. Now, I’m looking to read the second half of what’s out there and see if it holds up. It’s all easy reading and fun. I recommend them to those of you who enjoy cozy mysteries and are looking for another series to add to your shelves.
Roses and Revenge is the 4th book in the Port Danby Series, and it is every bit as good as the first three, but this one had a little bit more angst in it as you will see!
Port Danby is getting ready for Valentine's Day, and as with all other holidays, the madness starts with it! It starts off Dash, Lacey's neighbor inviting her out for an airplane ride for later in the week in his friend's two seater aircraft!
Lester, the owner of the store next to Lacey-The Coffee Hutch has just spent a small fortune on new places to sit outside his shop, and on the other side of Pink's Flowers is Elsie's Bakery, Elsie being the twin sister of Lester, and she has sent out flyers announcing Colin Firth the actor, is going to be at her bakery on Valentine's Day! This causes quite a stir. Ryder, Lacey's helper at the flower shop, is back to being tormented by Lola, who owns the antique store across the street. Its another day in the lives of Port Danby-or is it?
On top of all of this, Mayor Price allowed Georgio's Perfume Company to take up residence up at Hawksworth Manor to shoot a commercial and it really shocks her when Hazel, a secretary at Georgio's perfume walks into her shop and lets Lacey know her ex fiance is here for the shoot also!
What follows is a great mystery, with a bunch of side stories involving the people Lacey has come to love in her new home. (Except for Mayor Price, who is trying to get her pet crow Nevermore banned from the city!)
Sparks fly between Detective James Briggs, who Lacey is trying to understand whether he would like to be her boyfriend, and Lacey when a murder occurs and she is too close to the person accused of the murder, and he feels Lacey should sit out the investigation. Lacey has other ideas and you will have to read to see how that turns out.
The book is filled with great characters, and funny situations, that made me laugh out loud, and a little jealousy is shown by Detective Briggs when he storms into the flower shop after he had been looking for Lacey earlier and Ryder told him she was in an airplane-with Dash, (and he is already worried about Lacey's ex fiance being in town), so he starts yelling at her in her store to never do anything so stupid again!!
Take a trip to Port Danby and read this book, you will not be disappointed! I gave this book 5 ***** stars and can't wait for the next book, Tulips and Trouble in March!
So after where the last book left off mom was a little sad to see the relationship between Briggs and Pink did not pick back up exactly where it had left off, but they did make some great progress in the relationship that is was worth it. First off it is getting close to Valentines day and hearing about the flower bouquets that Lacey and her assistant are make up is just plain fun. Secondly Lacey neighbor offers to take her on a plain ride. (A little tiny plain that he takes care of for a friend, do not mistake her neighbor for being a billionaire.) Thirdly Lacey ex end's up in town due to the perfume company deciding to do their next shoot at the old scary house up the way. I know mom and I have focused on other things in the last three reviews, but we feel we should add in that not only has Briggs and Lacey's relationship been an over arcing story line, but also the mystery of the residence who use to reside in the old scary house up the way. Apparently a family use to live in the house up the way and they were killed by the father, yet now body really understand why the father killed his family as they all seemed happy up until the moment the dad went on a killing spree. Lacey for the last couple of books has been try figure it out, and though Mom and I feel she does not make as much progress in this one, we due feel that she spend a lot of time around the old house. It is also interesting how Lacey and Briggs relationship progresses with Lacey ex being caused of the murder on one of the models from the set and Lacey having a hard to proving her ex did not commit the crime even when all the clues/ smells point to him. A really great mystery, and great book in general can't wait to start the next one.
I'm really enjoying the Port Danby Cozy Mysteries. "Roses and Revenge" brings Lacey's past smack dab into the little seaside town. Her ex-fiance, Jacob Georgio has brought the faces of his ads into town to film some commercials for the cologne. Of course Lacey is taken by surprise when she comes face to face with her ex.
As the town prepares for hoopla surrounding Valentine's day, Lacey and Ryder are flooded with floral orders but that doesn't stop the million dollar nose from getting involved when one of the Georgio crew is found murdered in his trailer. If course it doesn't help when her nose implicated Jacob as the prime suspect. Detective Briggs has no choice but to Bart Lacey from investigating the case. We all know that won't work!
On a personal level the love remain scenario continues to brew between Laxey, Dash and Briggs. I won't lie, I was hoping that Lacey would have made some progress with one of them that leads to some serious kissy face but I guess I am going to have to be more patient. Living the characters and the series but want more of Kingston. He and his mood swings are the perfect complement to murder and mayhem!
Another terrific read. Okay the killer was obvious but the way she used her nose to dig deeper was brilliant. Just wish that there had been more about the very old old case in this book. When she is woken by trucks whizzing past her house she is intrigued especially once she finds out that member from her last job are in town. Including her ex-fiance. When the male model is murdered and her nose leads to her ex-fiance, she knows that there is something wrong with this picture. Can she find out the truth before he ends up on a charge of murder? The characters just get better and better but just wish she and her detective would stop dancing around each other.
I wish I had stopped after the third book in this series. This one was too slow with limited character development. In fact, it was more like character regression.
I hated her sudden crush on Dash and that she wouldn't stop commenting on his looks. Briggs was suddenly demeaning towards Lacey, but tbf, she kept acting like a whiny teenager. You'd think by now they'd have a more established friendship.
It wasn't until the last few chapters that the characters became redeemable. I pushed through (skimmed) instead of DNFing because I'm hoping the next book, Tulips and Trouble, has the Lacey I liked before.
If I hadn't already bought this & the next book, I'd move on to a different series.
This is the fourth book in the Port Danby Cozy Mystery series, and the books keep getting better. Part of that is the amazing cast of characters that continue to grow throughout each book. In Roses and Revenge, we get to learn a little more about Pink’s life before she moved to Port Danby, when her ex-fiancé and old coworkers come to town for a photo shoot. Things get a little tense between Pink and Briggs when her ex becomes a murder suspect. On top of that, there is also a little sneak peak into London Lovett’s new Firefly Junction series. This book was another lovely addition to the series, and I cannot wait for the next installment.
I recently started reading this London Lovett series of mysteries, and I was hooked from the first one. The heroine is a transposed city girl who moved to the small town of Port Danby and opened a flower shop. She's made lots of friends, has two romantic interests, and a pet cat and pet crow. The mysteries are interesting, the pets add some fun, and Lacey loves helping the town detective solve cases by using her outstanding sense of smell. It may sound confusing, but the mysteries come together in a satisfying manner. I look forward to continuing the series.
Problems arise when Pink's previous employer and fiancee turn up, then when he's accused of murder Pink has to try and find the evidence to clear him, will Detective Briggs believe her when she says he didn't do it?
Set in Port Danby with its own haunted house where a grisly murder took place many years previously; Pink runs the local florist and helps the local Police Detective solve murders which keep happening in the town.
Add in a crow which thinks it's human(and has a crush on Lola) and a cat called Nevermore, there are laughs as well as murders!
When her old city life visits her new quiet life,Pink finds herself with a new mystery. Her old Perfume company heads to Port Danby for a photo shoot. While there, Pink’s ex-fiancée is attested for murder. Pink is told to sit this one out, but that doesn’t mean she does. Ruffling the feathers of Detective Briggs, Pink sets out to prove Jacob maybe be a cheater, but he isn’t a murderer. Will helping Jacob bring up old feelings, or stop the beginning of a possible new romance? Read to find out.
This is the 4th book in the Port Danby series. This is a great series. In this story we visit Lacey Pink Pinkerton and her quiet town of Port Danby where the former perfume company she worked for comes to town to do a marketing campaign. Her ex fiancé is accused of murder. She knows that he didn’t do it, so she is compelled to find the culprit. I loved revisiting her town, her friends, and her pets, Nevermore the cat and Kingston her crow. I love this series!
Unfortunately this wasn’t my favorite. I predicted the murderer early on, and that’s not always a bad thing. But there wasn’t enough twists and turns to make up for this correct prediction.
I know this book is centered around Valentine’s Day, but I’m not really into this love triangle situation. I’d rather the focus be put into the friendships.
I’m looking forward to seeing how things progress with the Hawksworth Manor mystery!
I really enjoy reading the adventures that Lacey Pinkerton gets into and I m hoping for a romance between her and Detective James Briggs soon! They are an awesome duo! I really like Dash but as a friend for Lacey, t he conflict befriends and Dash is intriguing too!
I love this series! Each book builds off the characters from previous books. Always a new mystery to solve and an ongoing one from the past! The characters are so likable. I can't wait to read more!
I loved the plot, but did figure out the murderer before the ending. I wonder why almost all the characters have blue eyes? Still, these book are easy reads & entertaining when only a light hearted reading experience is called for.
Not as good as the others. Felt a bit filler-y and didn’t stand well enough as a whole story. But still a cosy mystery that I enjoyed enough. I’m not a massive fan of love triangles so introducing her ex as well as the other two love interests bored me. But like it was fine.
London Lovett is enjoyable as always. Detective Briggs needs to stop playing games though, either he is into her and should ask her out OR he needs to stop getting jealous. As others stated the mystery isnt super strong but I still enjoyed this one.
Overall I did like it with its funny characters and the fact that she was trying to solve a hundred only case, but the mystery that was happening in the current time was just okay. I just found it to be a little ho hum. It took a little bit too long for the current mystery to begin.

Wasn't the biggest fan of this volume. I thought it was glaringly obvious who it was pretty early on and the motive was ridiculous. I'm also very disappointed the developments of the last volume were just discarded.
Last book she hid behind a tree in a downpour just to get caught. This one was easy, but sad how a friend could turn on you, and in real life this happens more often than naught.
