“I’m sorry,” she repeated, squeezing his fingers as he fought to keep his eyes open. “But you should have never involved my sister.”
But as always, Ethan was one step ahead of her and too damn smart for his own good. Because draped across his lap, chewing on the edge of the jacket, was a gray puppy with toes dipped in white and a tail that never stopped moving.
He’d bought her a dog, damn him.
“Remind me, when did my sleeping habits fall under your purview?”
“Oh, I don’t know,” Georgia said, leaning back in her chair. “About the time you accused me of thinking with my vagina.”
Ethan choked, and Georgia smiled. “That’s not exactly the way I remember it.”
“No? We were at FedExField, it was cold as balls, and you accused me of… do you know? I’m not actually sure what you accused me of. Breaking Parker’s delicate constitution with the power of my Kegels, I think.”
“Oh God, stop. Just… ” Ethan waved her off. “Just stop. I’m sorry, okay?”
How many times had Natalia thought the same? That her sister’s innocence, her kindness, her non-threatening nature, protected her? How many times had she encouraged Ana Maria to remain docile and accommodating and quiet?
To be invisible.
But when had she, too, stopped seeing her? Stopped paying attention?
