REVIEW: 5 HEARTFELT STARS "In the darkness, there was only them, and a legacy of a love that bound them together forever."
Maybe I'm biased. Maybe I'm nostalgic. Maybe I'm just sad to see them go, but this book was super emotional for me. So much so, that I will admit that I full on cried while reading it. I don't cry....but I seem to be saying that a lot with this series. It was silent at first, tears escaping that I could easily hide. But the deeper into the story I got, the more my shoulders were shaking, my voice was catching, and the tears wouldn't stop. I will stress that while I cried because it was sad, it was a very beautiful and loving book with a heartwarming story. I loved catching up with my favorite characters while saying goodbye to others.
I have loved this series for years, and going in to this book, I was already super emotional knowing there was going to be some things I didn't want to face. I knew what was coming, but nothing could prepare me for the inevitable pain I was for sure going to feel. I knew that this was the final planned book of the series, but I don't think I was honestly mentally or emotionally prepared for it. Just saying goodbye to some of my favorite characters is hard after a trilogy, but with seven books in this series, allowing me to grow and fall in love with each character and their love story, falling in love with this entire family was inescapable. I feel like a piece of me was just ripped from my heart and taken away. I loved this family. I'm going to miss them so much.
I honestly don't think this book series gets enough love. It was very definitely a different storyline for me, but with DL Roan's descriptive storytelling, the "story" took on a blissful nature for me. It wasn't a typical story that followed social norms...or what I normally read. It was 3 brothers that needed a wife. It was a couple of twins that liked to climb trees and fall out of them, and loved to sing....while finding love with their wife. It was two men falling in love, despite the lack of a social acceptance of a norm they only knew. It was a young man struggling with his sexual identity, but a family welcoming him and loving him no matter what. It was dads not able to let go of their baby girl as she fell in love and got married. It was like I was watching my family grow and I got to watch their lives unfold and play out. It felt like I was a valued member of the family, sitting at the dinner table with them, making decisions. I am either a lunatic, or I am legit sad -- I'll go with sad. To have created an atmosphere as warm and as inviting as this one, that was no easy feat, I'm sure. Roan showed her ability to write a unique love story for EACH character she shared within these pages. Witty and funny, sad and emotional, a beautiful love was apparent in every single aspect of this family.
If you listen to me, and trust me, please check out this SERIES. You know as well as I do that I don't push a series unless I have loved it and can stand behind it 100%. The love that she delivers within the pages of this series is invincible...never have I read a series quite like this one, and I have loved how different it has been. It opened my eyes to the possibility of different being amazing.
And just remember, Matt, Mason, and Grey are mine. They have been. They always will be. Don't even try to convince me otherwise.
Merakla bekliyorum!
I love this series and can't get enough of the McLendon family, What i really loved about this one was it was written in lots of different POV'S i really really loved this, This series is a must read.
This was such a bittersweet read! From final moments to new beginnings, this was a touching read. I wasn’t at all prepared to say goodbye to the McLendon’s and will keep my fingers crossed for future snippets in Roan’s newsletter.
Have a box of tissues and your favorite drink in hand, this is a very emotional visit with the McLendon family.
With Cade's health failing fast, Dani and Clay move up their wedding. Dani puts her self under a lot of pressure, not wanting to let her dad's down. While Gray and Matt are supportive, Mason, is struggling.
The dads trip to to the Sterling Ranch is a turning point for them. Clay's tries to show that Dani will be in good hands, making big sacrifices to make a home for them both. His brother's don't make it easy. A forced weekend away, with his brothers and a childhood friend, some of the tensions ease.
With their first grandchild on the way, Gray, Gabby, Matt and Mason, turn nostalgic and consider maybe having one more. Gray channels he crazy into renovating, first with a nursery/play room for the grandchildren and then a guest house by the creek.
While Jonah, Chloe and Pryce anxiously await the birth of their first child. Pryce struggles with his place in the McLendon family, despite all the family does to make him their own. After an emotional visit to the doctors, with all the women in the family, knowing the paternity, and sex of the baby, then a scare, he honors his new family by asking to change his name.
Con and Car plan to tour again. Small venues for charity. Hoping to bring the light back into Breezie's eyes.
Cory is still finding himself.
Cade's time comes to an end. He gives comfort and wise council, to his family before pass on. Life goes on. While he is no longer physically with them, he is in their hearts and minds. A wedding, and new baby, and more babies on the way. They know he is watching over them
Through it all Gabby, is still the heat of Falcon Ridge, the gentle force of unconditional love, holding her family together.
Love this series. Hoping that Cory will set a story. Looking forward to the Sterling brothers and maybe their dad, finding their soul mates. I can see Dani wrangling them McLendon style.
The Legacy of Falcon Ridge DL Roan has done it again, it’s so sad that this is the end of the series though I hold out hope she may revisit it in the future to let us know how this amazing family has progressed. From the very first book I have been captivated by the McLendon clan, through her amazing words DL helped us fall in love with them all and had us rooting, laughing and crying with them. As promised this book was a gut wrenching ride. Even though we knew it was coming I cried my eyes out when Cade passed, I wanted to jump into the pages and hug Daniel. Through all the tears there were as usual some very funny moments which is what makes DL’s books fabulous. Like any family we see the kids grow up & leave home and see how the parents deal with this. I have loved Grey from the very first book though when we met Cade I was very envious of Daniel! It was great to see Dani get her HEA. We got to see more of the Sterlings, fingers crossed we get to read their stories soon and of course Cory still needs his too. Breezy & the twins finally got pregnant. Chloe, Jonah & Pryce finally let the past go & had a beautiful baby. We got a glimpse of Hazel & the paps story, I would love to have more. All in all in was a fantastic end to brilliant series. I can not recommend this series of books enough, but be warned the loves scenes will set you on fire!
This book begins with the events surrounding Dani and Clay's wedding. But this book is about so much more. I've loved the McLendons from the very first time I picked up Con, Car, and Breezy's book. I immediately had to go back to read their parents' book. Since, I've (im)patiently waited for each new release, becoming more and more invested in their family. Legacy takes everything one step further, wrapping up things left unfinished, and even hinting at things that might come in the future!
I love getting glimpses of "after the happy ever after". That is exactly what this book is. We get glimpses of the relationships that were focused on in the other books of the series. We get hints of the day to day life, the everyday struggle that these relationships go through. It makes the characters seem more realistic, more down to earth.
There were so many emotions in this book. Excitement, hope, sadness, outrage, and even disbelief! There were lots of laughs, and more than a few tears. As much as I loved this book, I really hated saying goodbye to the McLendon family. This book is definitely a must read for any McLendon fan!
This family has been with me for a long now and I have followed everyone of them as they have embarked on their own life adventures. Seeing the whole family brought together for Dani and Clay's wedding is just another step along the path that will never end because even when the author hangs up her pen I will still be carrying these wonderful people in my heart.
Every member of the family makes an appearance in this book along with some of the newer characters who I know we are going to be seeing a lot more of. Dani's wedding is fast approaching and the effect this is having on the Dad's is hilarious. Grey is is usual self, and we wouldn't have him any other way. Matt is cool, calm and relaxed....yeah right! But Mason, I think he may have had a personality transplant!
There are some very emotional moments and some downright sad ones, I was right there with them in that room. Word of warning have tissues at the ready....
This story encompasses so many of my favourite characters and shows them at their best. I laughed with the family. I cried with the family. I breathed a sigh of relief with the family. And I congratulated with the family. I am a quiet observer of this family and I thank D. L. Roan for bringing them to us.
What a perfect ending to this outstanding series! The first book was years ago - but funny how each member of the McLendon family's story comes back to me as I reconnect with the entire family. So much laughter and joy preparing for Dani and Clay's wedding, with all the expected shenanigans of their siblings, kept me captivated and kept me reading late into the night to finish. Hopefully the Sterling family are now going to invite us in to learn all their secrets. I'm all ready to pre-order their first book!!! (hint-hint) And then a cried a million tears as I said my good-byes to one of my favorite characters. Even though the end was expected and was written with so much love - was still so extremely painful to experience. I think it speaks directly to the incredible talent of the writer, that she can rip your heart out with the loss of a fictional character. So highly recommend this entire series!
This book is like trying out a new roller coaster. First you have the frustration of waiting in line. Then the anticipation as you get closer and closer. Then you are finally on the ride and its twists and turns, highs and lows, dips and flips. I laughed, I cried and I loved it. We get to catch up with the antics of Grey, Mason and Matthew as they navigate their baby girl getting married. We get a glimpse of married life with Chloe, Pryce and Jonah. There is an amazing scene between the three of them that just made me cry. We get a glimpse into Connor, Carson and Breezy's struggles with infertility. And finally we visit with Uncle Cade and Papa Daniel.
I will miss this series. Maybe they will make a re-appearance in the future. One can only hope. This series isn't your typical boy meets girl and falls in love. But that's ok. It starts with 3 boys meeting one girl and falling in love. The series continues with their children's lives. Well worth the time to read!
Family! The people in this book have become part of your family throughout the previous books. As with any family you laugh together, you cry together and you love together. As the family grew so did the love. It is a bitter sweet end. You never want it to end because you can`t wait to see what they come up with next even though you know all good things must come to an end. I would say I will miss them but trust when I saw I will be reading these stories over and over again. If there ever was a book to end the series th is was it! She knocked it out the park with this one!
I am so sad to see the end to a series I have enjoyed for four years, but I have to say that this book was a fitting tribute to one of my all-time favorite families!!! I cried so hard during this story, my heart was breaking for the McLendon's, but through it all the love shined so brightly. And it wasn't all heartbreak, there were lots of laughs as well. The dad's and their antics had me literally laughing out loud. And the lengths that Clay was willing to go to for Dani were swoon worthy!!! Cory is turning in to a wonderful young man (most of the time).
I wish I could give more than 5 stars!!! And I highly recommend this series for anyone that loves hot, alpha cowboys!!!
I’ve tried all day to wrap my head around the emotions that this book invokes. So much love, pain, sorrow, happiness...all rolled up into one of the best books released this year. The Falcon Ridge characters have become not only our book friends, but feel like family as well. I don’t know how she does it, but DL Roan captures your heart from the very first page and sends you on this incredible journey...which you hope never ends! I know I’ll be reliving scenes from this book for a long time to come. Make sure you have plenty of tissues on hand! You definitely want to add this one to your personal library today! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I loved this book. I made sure I reread the series before I read this book since I knew it was going to be the last in the series. I am sad to see it go. It gave me all the feels. I laughed, I cried and smiled while reading it. I tired to take my time to read it because I didn't want it to end. It is so well written and makes you feel like you are a part of their family (or just really wish your were). I hope to see more of the family in the future.
There are no words to truly describe how beautifully written this story was. The of this family has been so fun and enjoyable but this final edition was written with so much compassion and love. The love this family has for each other is incredible. Seeing everyone in there different phases of life and some lives beginning while others end such a touching story and a beautiful end to the saga. If the ranking could be a 10 instead of 5 I would rate it that high.
I started this series in 2014 with the first book, and have to admit did not read pass book 2 till this January. And I am so glad glad I did, I had forgotten just how much I loved them.
What a fantastic ending to this great series. I am a little sad its ending, but this book made the blow a little easier to take. I laughed a lot and cried a lot as well and I will truly miss the McLendon's.
I cant wait to see where the Sterling series takes us!!
As hard as it was to read this book, I can't even begin to wonder how hard it was to write it. This book was very well written. It's a labor of love! Everything was done with perfection. This author did this book, the entire series and herself proud. I don't want to say goodbye to this series. It's become a part of my heart. Thank you for the way you wrote this book.
I have to be honest here... I really didn't want to read this final book but I am so glad I did. I fell in love with this family from the her start of this series and I really enjoyed reading each one of the books. I laughed and cried through every one and fell more in love with this family each time. 💞💕💞
It has been a true honor to read this series from such a gifted author. I fell in love with Falcon Ridge and all the many wonderful characters. I hope some day soon the author continues with other books updating the progress of the lives of the kids and all the McLendon's. This has been a wonderful journey the author has taken you on and I applaud her for her talent. I laughed cried and snorted my way thru the book. Bravo
The McLendons are one of my favorite fictional famiies. Ms Roan really brought each character to life - with trials, tribulations, flaws and great qualities.
I hope Cory gets his own story someday. I look forward to the Sterling family series. Their characters in the McLendons story added to the stories and made me want more.
Couldn't wait until this book came out , I have read all of the Mclendon family saga and loved every one of the books ,you laugh, and you cry , got it today , stayed up until 4am reading couldn't stop , until I finished , would recommend all D L Roan books to anyone who loves a good story
An emotional return to the McLendon family and Falcon Ridge. It’s been an incredible journey with this family. Through the ups and downs of life, and the fun and frolics of each relationship, I loved catching up with the whole family in this story. Amidst the fun and laughter, there is sadness, heartbreak and tears. Many tissues required for this latest trip to Falcon Ridge.
Oh my!!!! What a great end to this saga. I am sad and happy all at the same time. The author did a phenomenal job of wrapping this family story up in a way that made you feel good in spite of feeling the sad loss of one of it members. Life changes but it doesn't always mean something bad. That's what I was reminded of reading this book.
I admit I was hooked on the unconventional family saga from the beginning, and knew the last edition wasn't going to be pretty reading! I put off reading it until I could give it uninterrupted time. It's that good. I'm a fan of great characters, amazing love oozing from every page, heart wrenching sadness, those curve balls life throws, all so well written Ms. Roan drags the reader in, holds so tight, and squishes every drop of laughter, sadness, joy and hope from you as you join the McLendons on their family journey. Amazing, loved it, cried so hard, laughed, sighed, cannot recommend highly enough. This whole series is one to re-read over and over its that good.
What a beautiful and epic "ending" to a awesome family saga. I've never laughed as hard or cried as much with any novel as a I have with this one. Awesome job Mrs. Roan! Can't wait to see what's in store for maybe Cory and the Sterling family.
DL Roan did it again with a 5***** read this series is amazing
This book is a perfect finale to an amazing series. You will cry, laugh and have every emotion inbetween. But it is totally worth the emotional rollercoaster it takes you on 5*****
I cried.I laughed and i know love beyond measure exist. This was worth the wait.it's bittersweet to say goodbye but I smile as I do.thank you for such a awesome story.
I knew going in that this book would make me cry (sobbing cries) - I had to read it in the weekend so I could put it down when it got to be too much - there were parts that you'll laugh out loud too. But we do finally get to see Dani and Clay get married. You see the dad's lose it because they don't want to give away their daughter and the antics that they do to deal with the stress of it was quite comical. You won't regret the purchase of this book.
This book gets all the hearts! The McLendon Family Saga has been at the top of my reading list since I first read book 1. I know I'll be re-reading this series many times in the future. This book was especially dear to me. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I don’t think I could ever get enough of the Falcon Ridge family. Each book gets better than the last & makes you feel like a member of the family ! I hope we hear much more about the next generation of Mclendon’s
