Enemies from the past collide and Maddock faces a past flame in a showdown that was inevitable. Fans of the series will enjoy this book. It's another solid addition to a fantastic adventure series.
Solomon Key by David Wood does an incredible job of meshing history with fiction in one incredible adventure. I have listened to several books with the character of Dane Maddock, and really enjoy them. This book is a standalone listen and part of a series. I loved the imagery in this story and how the author incorporates so much into the tale. The twists are excellent! Without giving away spoilers, the ending was perfect. The narration by Jeffrey Kafer is outstanding! I loved his distinguishable voices for the various characters. I could easily hear who was speaking, which added to my enjoyment. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator!
I enjoyed this book as much as many other fans of "Dane & Bones". Why the three star rating? There are numerous grammatical errors. I normally read through a few errors, but this book has many from dialog not in quotes to a correctly spelled word used wrong, to incomplete sentences. I expect much better for a paid book. You'll enjoy the story, though.
This was the first Dane Maddock book I listened to, and since it’s book 10 in the series, I went in expecting to miss out on a lot of references to previous books. There were some references to previous books, but most were explained, so I never felt like I was missing out on part on the story. The author did a great job blending fictional and historical characters and events, and adding a splash of the supernatural to create an entertaining listen. The pacing and timing of the story felt great, and I found the characters relatable, and the banter between Bones and Maddock was entertaining. The narrator did a great job, giving all of the characters distinct voices and he did a good job with accents as well. It’s definitely worth a listen.
This audiobook was provided by the author at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.
Maddock and Bones rescue a young woman who asks them to help her explore the underwater passages of Ceasar’s Spring in Florida looking for a family heirloom. While Isla Mulheron is in Scotland working for the sisterhood tracking down legends relating to King Arthur and a ring.
I’m not going to finish this book or continue the series. I’m tired of both Bones and Maddock being too immature in their relationships to be ex-SEALs and professional treasure hunters. Bones is too irreverent and rude, hitting on anything with skirts. While Maddock is unreliable and obviously unable to commit to a relationship. On top of that, they seem to play way too much and their ‘crew’ seem to only show up when needed in the story, so it’s not a real profession.
Besides I’ve found I’m not too comfortable with reading about swimming underwater in unexplored tunnels.
I love that David doesn't worry about word count or length of book, but focuses on the story and what's needed to tell it. Totally awesome! We get full movement and information to keep moving forward through out the book. There are traps, fights, and mystery as we go through the adventure with Dane Maddock and Bones.
This book left me with a few questions that I hope will come up in future books. Like what does the Sisterhood want with Solomon's mines. There has to be something more there, and I am looking forward to finding out what it is!
This is another terrific Dane Maddock adventure!Dane and Bones make quite a team.Their sniping at each other while searching for clues to is somethig I look forward to. So in this one a woman comes to them for help in finding a ring, supposedly a family thing. What they find is danger, death and much more. Jeffrey Kafer is an awesome narrator.I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.
Solomon's Key is fantastic. Maddock and Bones rescue a diver who then tries to kill them. The guys can't not investigate. It leads them on the search to find the lost ring of Black Caesar, an infamous pirate. It is believed that the ring once belonged to King Solomon of the Bible.
The guys are pitted against 2 groups. Betrayals and possible death can't stop our duo.
Backstory is that an African warrior was kidnapped but later became a pirate. Flash forward....Maddock and Bones rescue a diver who is searching for the key to the lost treasure. She double crosses the boys and then the chase is on. Unfortunately, they are not in this search alone. Old and new enemies resolve to prevent the guys from finding the treasure.
Maddock and Bones are dragged into another adventure, as a mysterious lady tries to kill them on a dive, while on vacation. Nothing gets there attention more, then someone trying to kill them!!! Good book that moves at a steady pace, again Maddock seems a bit distracted and is again taken in by Isla.
After rescuing a diver who then tries to kill Maddock and Bones, they end up on a whirlwind adventure including Pirates and Solomons mine. In another well researched book using historical and mythological information to reach their goal. Nice to see some characters from other books brought back in. Well recommended and looking forward to the next instalment.
Complete with familiar Bones and Maddock banter, this installment is somewhat less compelling than other of their adventures. There are a number of opposing forces with similar reasons to achieve the elusive goal. The intrigue is that the goals may not be the same for all the seekers. Well-written as usual and a good read.
Fast paced fun adventure. So many parties involved at times it was hard to keep everybody straight. This is the first book I read in the series I am going to start at the beginning now.
A great adventure once again. Globe trotting just ahead of the bad guys, Maddock, Bones and Isla make sense of the clues and find the treasure. Not a surprise when Isla acts true to form...a more wishy-washy woman there isn't.
Another great adventure by Dane and Bones. For me nit as exciting as the previous ones but still very enjoyable. Can’t wait to start a new Dane Maddock and Bones adventure series. The Dane Maddock universe.
This series should be a new Amazon TV series. The writing is good and exciting, a real page turner. Archaeological action adventures makes for good brain candy.
In this book Maddock and Bones help a damsel in distress, and search for Solomon's mnes. It is a little bit weird that I like these books as much as I do, but I think they are a kind of guilty pleasure. Also, they are potato chips books, as in you always want one more. The characters of Maddock and Bones are very, very stereotypical ex navy seals, and somewhat one dimensional. Each book is based on a historical myth, and they are sometimes a little bit repetitive. But the action and adventure is great and very fast paced, and the books are enjoyable.
I thought this was the weakest book in the series so far. It was short at less than 200 pages and it just never seemed to get off the ground for me. I thought the action was ho hum and the climax was less than thrilling or even very interesting for that matter. The chapters were short which made it a quick beach read but that's about all I can say in the plus side. I'm hoping this book was a fluke and the next will be better.
