A woman crashes her car near the scenic Colorado ski resort town of Rocky Points and slips into a coma after suffering head trauma. The Sluice-Byron County first responders discover she’s stolen her vehicle from central Washington and doctors find her body is riddled with wounds that have nothing to do with the collision.
Chief Detective David Wolf of Rocky Points is two days from getting married when he learns the crash victim’s identity as Special Agent Kristen Luke of the FBI—Wolf’s colleague and former lover. As questions mount about her inauspicious arrival, Luke wakes up and provides no answers, because she can’t remember.
When the Feds drop in to take Special Agent Luke back home, Wolf can’t shake the feeling more danger is at play than they’re letting on. In this action-packed new installment of the David Wolf mystery-thriller series, Wolf must choose between two loyalties, risking his new life at home to travel to the Pacific Northwest. Among biblical rains and ruthless gangs, can Wolf find the truth? Or will all he holds dear drown in deception?
Jeff Carson is from the Front Range of Colorado where he lives with his wife and two sons. His David Wolf series of books takes place in the fictional ski town of Rocky Points, Colorado.
David Wolf is very loyal friend and he is very good at his job. He is almost a super man, does many unbelievable escapes. This story starts with warehouse full of young girls brought from Asia by human traffickers. Day before his wedding David Wolf gets involved with the investigation. You'll be hoping he is going to make it back home. Does he or doesn't he will keep you reading.
Normally, I love all the David Wolf books that Jeff Carson writes, but this one wasn't up to par with his other ones. Besides the poor editing (lots of mistakes while reading that detract from the story), the story line was a little disjointed and hard to follow at times. It seemed like Jeff was too eager to finish the book and didn't fill in some of the plot line as well as he could have. Plus, I didn't like it jumping back and forth between Colorado and Seattle. I will continue to read Jeff's books, though, as I love his characters and the locale. Sure wish Wolf and Lauren had been able to tie the knot--that was a bit of a disappointment. Maybe she'll be back.......
As soon as I saw Luke was part of the plot I knew I was in for a bad read. If your a fan of her you’ll probably love it. If I learned anything from this one it’s David Wolf may be all man, all macho but he’s dumb and must take joy in making his life miserable
I like characters I can respect, but any man who professes a deep passionate love for a woman and her daughter and a daughter who wants him as a daddy and then the day before marrying her, go off chasing after a looser like Luke, even it is to save her, which he has no really solid evidence that she is in danger.
If he did know then why go all the way to Seattle to protect her, just be a macho save the day David while in the comforts of home and kill those who are out to harm her.
Sorry, I obviously hated this edition and I’m venting but just because I hated it, there are readers who enjoy this type of stuff and I don’t want to ruin anyone else’s enjoyment.
Now I need to find me another series where the main protagonist isn’t a jerk, looser.
I've been a David Wolf fan for quite awhile who's read the previous 10 books. Rain was a disappointment! David Wolf has always been the strong silent type. In Rain he is the strong stupid type. I found the dialog weak and unrealistic. The poor editing was a constant distraction. The plot was ok but it's like a potentially good movie spoiled by poor acting and direction. Lastly, I hated the ending!👎😞
I’ve liked every books in this series. Carson tells a darn good story in every one of the ten books before this one. He continues that here, both in Dave Wolf’s professional life and his personal one.
But after the last entry in the series - a great one - this one is a bit of a let-down.
There’s something amiss here. The story seems scattered, jumpy, stopped the flow of my reading too often, had me thinking, ‘What?’. In too many places, instead of flowing, dialog and narrative lurched, as if (a) the words in Carson’s head never made it onto the page, (b) Carson thought we’d ‘understand’ what he meant, or (c) words Carson wrote disappeared somewhere between Amazon and my Kindle. The action in the climax was hard to follow and the trailing chapters dragged on too long.
Rain plays a big part of the story, forming a backdrop to much of the action. But too often it seemed, the characters stood out in the rain getting drenched for no reason other than getting wet.
Carson has never shied away from violence in his stories. This book has more than usual and some of it is quite brutal and callous.
I see there is at least one more book in this series. I hope it’s better than this one and hope there are more after that one.
Rated a 3 but maybe a 3.5 ... maybe. I have liked the books in this series and the flawed characters in them. I still enjoyed the story of discovery and solution with the action and thrills that makes these books what they are. But, the flawed characters seemed to become too flawed in this one. I finally got the point of feeling that Rachette should just be fired for all the excessive drinking he does. I went through much of the story not liking Wolfe very much, too. I felt disappointed by his action with Lauren and Ella. Two days before his wedding he rushes off to Washington to assist FBI Agent Luke with little explanation? And then nearly a day without getting in touch? I understand the man in rough and "duty-bound" and it is who he is, but ....
The David Wolf series is addicting. You get so involved with the characters that you want to steer them into making the right directions. In essence what makes the stories so believable is that they are human, and that can send the plot in a roller coaster motion.
There is no lack of action and twists throughout the book. Whenever I thought I had the story figured out, I learned that I didn't. This was a very enjoyable book, subject matter is serious, but Jeff Carson is not afraid to tackle unpleasant issues. I look forward to the next David Wolf book.
The writing is easy to follow better than the last one I gave my take on. Hope the next one is better than this. Oh kind of figure that would happen I mean how does one live with a man that goes to war all the time.
David Wolf brings sheriffing to a new level. Wish all our country's sheriff's and other officers had this must gusto for finding the truth and adhering to it. Cannot recommend this book highly enough!!!!
Just when you think Wolf has done and been injured as much as he could he gets in to deeper trouble! This involves the Chinese gang and it almost got the better of him!
He leaves Lauren at the altar and even though its a good thing he did, Im mad that the story ends the way it does. The plot is kind of convoluted. There’s one part where Wolf, the FBI, and Luke go back to a murder scene. The chapter ends abruptly and there isn’t a clear reason why the next chapter goes the direction it does. Given that plot point, it’s also not clear why Wolf agrees to leave. Other than that, and my difficulty following Wolf’s trek up and down a mountain, it’s vintage Wolf.

Jeff Carson is a master at creating unforgettable characters in his David Wolf series. I have just finished reading them all for the second time within a year, and he belongs with the likes of Jonathan Kellerman, Faye Kellerman, John Sandford, J.D. Robb, and Patricia Cornwell. His plots contain gripping suspense, and he describes his settings with amazing skill. I wish him the same success as the other authors I read, and I can hardly wait to see David Wolf and the Colorado Rockies again.
Holy crap where do I start... 'Rain' was an amazing addition to a fantastic series. I absolutely loved the story line and how it played out. I thought previous book hit my emotions button and turned it way up. But this book maxed my emotions out. So many things happened and I can't really talk about any of them without giving spoilers. That's really hard. But overall, this book rocked. I look forward to reading more. The best thing- this book didn't leave on a cliffhanger. A must add to your tbr list.
Chose this book because it sounded interesting to me and I was in search of a new author. I look forward to reading more by Jeff Carson and highly recommend this book.
Oh, Snap! I love this series and the characters within. This particular addition to the story is very bittersweet. It's definitely been a hallmark of the David Wolf series since the beginning. If it weren't for bad luck, he'd have no luck at all, as the saying goes. This author proves he won't pull any punches but will lead the reader right into the path of destruction with the characters.
Only Wolf could find himself embroiled in murderous mayhem in another state the day before his wedding to Lauren. I'll admit to having mixed feelings about that. For me, it indicated that Wolf's "White Knight" gene is almost toxic, allowing his normally pragmatic mind to be outvoted by the need to protect. At all costs. Maybe I should have seen this coming. In the movies, epic rain is usually an indicator of a major transition. Was the rain in this story, an attempt to soften the blow for us?
Dang, this author. I'm not even sure how to feel at this point in the series. I'm sad, hopeful, and still... happy? How did he manage to pull that off? I don't even know what I would prefer to happen at this point because Jeff Carson can somehow make me appreciate both sides of a situation. *eye-rolling* *hair-pulling* *expletives*
I've got to grab the next book. If you're new to the world of David Wolf and his elevator lifestyle (more ups and downs than an elevator operator), please don't start with this book. But you could start with just about any other book in the series and jump into this amazing work. Wherever you choose to start, just be prepared for fiercely fast plot lines, great characters that will grab your attention, and storylines that will grip and not let go.
I will be honest, I was getting a little discouraged reading the last few in the series as I felt the plots weren't moving along enough and they just felt similar. This book definitely was different and helped bring me back to the series and Wolf's life events. I enjoyed this book quite a bit and definitely recommend it.
David Wolf is getting married! Plans are being made, people are coming into town, and everyone is excited for Wolf to get married. While the entire town is in preparations, a car is found crashed off the road.. in a stolen vehicle. The sheriff's office team soon find out that the crash victim is none other than Kristen Luke, Special Agent.
Luke has moved on, moved across state lines, and joined FBI in Seattle Washington. So what was she doing there in Colorado so far from her new home? Luke is found unconscious and in a coma. When she wakes, she cannot remember anything, which might be good, and might be bad all at once. We soon learn that she is caught up on a situation involving her FBI field team and some sex trade traffickers that leads to cover ups and kidnappings from her own people. Of course, David Wolf will not leave Luke, especially if he senses she is in danger. But what does he jeopardize at home and is it worth it?
Wow...Agent Luke led villains to David Wolf and he gets embroiled in..OOPS forgot..NO SPOILERS...suffice it to say that David Wolf takes a OOPS...NOT going to do those spoilers! Instead I will say RAIN is literally full of rain’s consequences for a whole lot of characters in a GREAT BOOK. This reader felt David Wolf’s PAIN(S). But then so did a lot of the other characters as well!! Action packed doesn’t begin to cover RAIN. What a story by a great Author, Jeff Carson. RAIN REIGNS RATED as yet another stupendously, and wonderful read in Author Jeff Carson’s Mystery Thriller Series!! Another piece of my heart went out to David Wolf in RAIN. What a great series this Mystery Thriller Series has turned out to be!! A DO.NOT.MISS.SERIES for sure!! The reader just keeps on being gifted by this incredible Author, Jeff Carson! I’m ALL IN now, and knee deep in some of the best reading I have ever encountered. Grab this series folks...it is a WIN WIN and the only losses are that some characters...OOPS...trying to do spoilers again. NOT. Just read RAIN! You won’t ever be sorry with this Mystery Thriller Series Author Jeff Carson has penned so very very well!! ENJOY!!!
I am "hooked"on the David Wolf stories! What I love is how it keeps me in suspense until near the end without the obvious "who done it" or "who the bad guy/guys" are. AND the best part about Jeff Carson's stories -- there are little to no typos! Obviously he does a proofing/editing before the books are published. Doesn't refer/state the wrong name/character when talking/thinking about another.
Rain was totally different from the others but still tense. To me the ending was sad yet there's hope as David Wolf goes forward. Thank you Jeff for the entertaining, action-packed yet suspense of your stories. I read at night (unless we're in a power outage of course) and just enjoy your books.
A JC. Mystery Adventure Thriller (DAN - 11)/A Wounded Woman in a Car Crash/An FBI. Agent/When the FBI. Arrives DW. sees a Problem
JC. has. penned the eleventh novel in the David Wolf series, which begins with a discovery of an auto accident and the driver wounded by gunshot. DW. questions the searching Deputy and identified the woman as Kristen Luke. DW. Immediately begins to investigate and has found out a few facts but when the FBI. Arrives to take KL. To their facilities DW. Is warned to stay away from this investigation. Wrong thing to say. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
If you are a fan of David Wolf then you won't be disappointed. Wolf is back in action the day before his wedding and if you know Wolf, you know that the walk down the aisle might be in jeopardy.
Wolf is tough, rough with a touch of wit to make him someone with whom you'd like to have a beer or two. This book leaves me wanting more of Wolf. Hopefully, Jeff Carson, the author of this series is busy writing #12.
By the way, you can pick up any one of the Wolf books and still enjoy an action-packed thriller. Enjoy!
I just finished this book by Jeff Carson and now I'm wishing that I hadn't. This is the last one of the series so far and anything longer than a week before I can read the next one is just way too long. I bought the first four as an Amazon special deal then I bought the next one and the one after that. I'm in love with David Wolf and I know that he's a character in a book, but Jeff Carson made him and all of the characters come alive and become people that I would love to meet if they were alive. Except for the bad guys because he made them so very real as well.
I give only 3 stars because of the horror editing which is no fault of the writer. I would think by his 12th book he would have found a decent editor by now. As a beta reader for a newer author every missing word or wrong turn of phrase grates on my nerves. Please fire your editor. Your stories are just awesome & deserving of 5 stars. The plot & development are right on. Missing words are like chalk on a chalkboard to use a dinosaur phrase. By book number 12, your stories should be perfection.
I love the pace Jeff Carson keeps throughout his novels. He certainly knows how to keep me intrigued! Just when I think I have it all figured out he throws in a sharp turn to keep me up all night turning pages. My husband knows when I start the next book in the Wolf series there's no need in trying to talk to me or include me in any plans for the next 5-6 hours! Love this series and I know the next book is going to be bittersweet for me since it's the last one he's written at this time.
Excellent addition to the series though I wasn't sure about the theme, sex slave trade in the Seattle area where it rained the whole time Wolf was there! All in all Colorado is a better location.
David's love life is so frustrating. I hope he gets it together in the next book. But the other characters, Rachette and Patterson, are steady relationships for him, in work and friendship.
I think I've now read the entire series (#1-#11) though not in order. I'd recommend reading them in order but each works as a stand-alone. Looking forward to #12.
I have really enjoyed all the David Wolf books. I love the style and quality of the writing. I have to admit I was sad that he missed his own wedding even though I saw it coming, especially in the longing evident in Luke. Lots of clues there beforehand. I'm not sure why other readers were confused. I enjoyed the various story complications greatly. I suppose it was a bit difficult keeping track of the names of Kristin Luke's several partners, but otherwise I enjoyed the diversion from the mountains into Seattle's Asian gangs.
Before reading this I read some negative reviews. I shouldn’t have because they kind of spoiled the ending a bit, so future readers beware! But, I’ll just say I don’t share the negative feelings the other reviewers had. I’d elaborate but then I’d have to add a spoiler tag.
In general, I thought this was a good story. Sure, it was a bit unbelievable at times but it is fiction and the unbelievable parts didn’t wreck the entertainment value in my opinion.
I agree with the choices the main character made, for the most part. I’m looking forward to continuing the series.
Wolf is getting married in a few short days when his friend, and former gf, FBI agent Luke is found in a stolen car and suffering from amnesiac. From all appearances Luke was on her way to see Wolf. Soon the pair team up to get to the bottom of a sex trafficking ring…and to find out the dirty FBI agent. Will they survive this case? How will Wolf’s fiancée handle him running to his ex’s rescue and possibly missing their wedding? Yes, it bears repeating…I LOVE this series!!!
