Another thrilling story in the exciting Tylers of Texas series! FIVE SPLENDID STARS!

I'm so glad I discovered the "Tylers of Texas" six-book series. Texas Fierce--the fourth book in the series--is actually Book One chronologically, since the story begins back in 1970, when young Virgil (Bull) Tyler returns to the Rimrock Ranch to claim his inheritance and create a dynasty of strong Tyler men and women.

Here's a bit of the plot but no big spoilers--I promise. After his father's mysterious death, Bull Tyler gives up his promising bull-riding career and returns to a ranch that's suffering from drought and sadly in need of major repairs, but Bull has little money. He's sorely tempted to sell the ranch to greedy Hamilton Prescott, the wealthy owner of a neighboring ranch. But when he refuses Prescott's devious offer, things soon get downright nasty, because Ham Prescott will stop at nothing to get what he wants--including murder.

You'll find lots of conflict, suspense, mystery and danger in this fast-moving plot, with surprising twists and revelations along the way. But there's plenty of romance as well, as a powerful attraction develops between Bull and Susan Rutledge, a beautiful young woman who happens to be engaged to Ferg Prescott, Ham's nefarious son. (Father and son are evil personified, believe me!) When Susan falls in love with Bull and breaks her engagement to Ferg, things don't go smoothly for our two lovers.

Overall, this is a gripping story of one man's unyielding determination to rebuild his ranch, claim the woman he loves, and create a proud dynasty--the Tylers of Texas. I've enjoyed the entire series, with its books about Bull's three sons--Will, Beau and Sky--and his granddaughter, Erin. I wish I'd read Texas Fierce first, since Bull's story takes place decades before the rest and provides the background for the rest of the series. But hey--it's all good. Dive in and enjoy each of these exciting western novels by the incomparable Janet Dailey. They deserve five stars and my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

When I need a great book set on a ranch with an intense plot, Janet Dailey is my go to author.
Captivated by revenge, deceit, murder, and of course, romance, Ms. Dailey always delivers.
Texas Fierce just might be my favorite book in this Tyler’s Of Texas Series.
Bull Tyler’s dad just passed and he’s summoned from his life, rodeoing, to come home and save his inherited-rundown ranch. Can he save it before his rich, land grubbing neighbors, take it?

Ever since I read Ms. Dailey’s epic Calder’s series, I have been hooked on her books.
This series rivals The Calder’s and certainly keeps her fan’s guessing.
Loved loved this phenomenal book.

Texas Fierce by Janet Dailey
Rough terrain, rugged men and tempting women lay the landscape for a bumpy ride. Texas Fierce is a hearty tale of treachery and temptation.  Bull and Susan are caught up in forces beyond their control.  Danger resides on the horizon and it will take all of their strength to survive the irresistible pull they feel for each other.  Fierce is the perfect adjective for a story as bold as the people who live it and the love that grows from it.

I was hooked from the first paragraph about the rodeo and the bull rider. Western Romance is one of my favorite areas to read, I could relate to it all since I was growing up during the period of the book and could picture the clothes and the whole atmosphere. The characters were well defined and thought out. Bull Tyler was soft but hard nosed and did something he shouldn't have but for a good causes. Susan Rutledge started out as the typical rich spoiled girl but as she matured through the book became a strong woman who fought for the man she loved and stood up to her family for the sake of Bull. Bull took in a stray young girl and even though he did some close to illegal things it was always to protect the people he cared about. There were long held secrets that were revealed from several different areas, a couple of which I was able to work out. Janet Dailey did a great job and I was able to follow Texas Fierce as a series and as a book on its own.

He’s the prodigal son ready to claim his legacy . . .

He came home to sell his family’s failing ranch, but once twenty-year-old Bull Tyler sets foot on the Rimrock, he’s determined to tame the rugged land and make it his own. First he’ll have to take on the powerful Prescott clan, who’ll do anything to get their hands on the Tyler's’ holding—even murder. She’s the pampered beauty he won’t let get away . . .

She was born to privilege, and raised to do the right thing. But Susan Rutledge has never felt anything like the fire she feels for Bull Tyler. Yet can she defy her father’s strong will and leave her secure life for a ramblin’ rodeo man? She’d have to be crazy—or crazy in love . . .

We get to go and see how Bull Tyler and Susan Rutledge first met and how through grit and determination, on both sides they risk everything for love and to build their home from the near ashes. Tow people, on used to going his own way, yet determined to save his legacy and an indulged Daddy's girl choose her heart's desire over comfort and safety.

Janet Dailey once again gives her reader a story of hope and a cowboy with enough determination to win the heart of his love. Capturing the flavor of the west and the imaginations of her readers. This a well written story with characters you can believe in and enjoy. it moves at a quick pace and is perfect for a lazy afternoon read.

Bull Tyler is as rough and fierce as the rodeo varmints he used to ride. He does things that don't always make him a great guy, but life didn't exactly treat him fairly either and the time he lives in wasn't necessarily the easiest of times either.

This book chronicles Bull's growth into the man his father always wanted him to be, including the many growing pains and learning what he's capable of and how far he's willing to go to protect and make successful his birthright and those he considers friend and loved one. There's a bit of a mystery as to what really caused his father's death, who shot and killed two men and how to deal with the culprits, what's right for the Rimrock, what's the right and fair thing to do and what's simply an opportune twist in his favor?

Bull and his foreman Jasper (the closest thing to family he's got left) are entrusted to protect a young girl. Then there's Susan, an underage teen when Bull first meets her, but one who shakes up his world. When she returns a few years later as the fiancee of his childhood BFF and fiercest opponent, she's still crazy about the gruff cowboy who sacrificed his best and last bull to save her life, then, didn't rat her out for the stupid midnight escapade that ended in near disaster for the Rimrock. When she catches Ferg slipping out on her she's had it and ends the engagement, even facing her family's disapproval for doing so.

There are a lot of twists and hardships Bull, Susan and the Rimrock crew must endure over the 5 years this book spans.

"Texas Fierce" is a little grittier than some of the other Janet Dailey books in this setting I'm accustomed to. It explores the flaws and challenges that make use human and shape our characters. Enjoyable. Gotta say, when the finally mystery is revealed, I didn't see it coming. Dailey knows how to keep your attention and make you hope things are righted for the wronged and affected. Just one person and her parcel unaccounted for... that I'd really have liked to have seen righted. Maybe that's another tale... ?

I'm a bit on the fence about this entry in Janet Dailey's "Tylers of Texas" series. On one hand, it is a well-written tale that reveals the beginnings of the Tyler/Prescott feud; on the other, it reminds me of early V. C. Andrews sagas where there would be four books and the fifth-and-(usually) final book would fill in any gaps that still need to be explained. (Since it's been a decade or more since I read a V. C. Andrews series, maybe this has changed.)

Having said all that, TEXAS FIERCE gets a 5-Star rating from me because the novel works well as a stand-alone novel. Readers could take this novel -- which I think is the best of the four-book series -- and never read any of the other books in the series and feel like they got a complete story. The other three, no matter how good they are, still feel like they need to be read together because there is a level of interconnectedness between them since they all take place in the present.

(The same holds true of Dailey's "Calder Saga." Had THIS CALDER SKY, which was published first, been the only Calder novel published, readers would have had a complete story. The rest of the saga, though THIS CALDER RANGE and STANDS A CALDER MAN to a lesser degree, all require knowledge of the other books in order to complete the tapestry of the story. My opinion only.)

Reading Dailey's recent output of novels, TEXAS FIERCE included, is like revisiting the best of her early- to mid-1980s peak period but with a fresh, bold new attitude.

I received a copy of the book from Kensington Books through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I received Texas Fierce as part of a Goodreads giveaway.

Virgil "Bull" Tyler limps off the rodeo circuit and into a nightmare--his estranged late father has left him the family homestead, the Rimrock. But years of mismanagement and drought, in addition to the Tylers' ongoing rivalry with the neighboring, wealthy Prescott family, have left the land in ruins. Bull immediately butts heads with Ham Prescott, the patriarch, and Ferguson, the heir and Bull's former, childhood friend. The father and son, prone to violence and crime, immediately seek to overpower and intimidate Bull into selling the Rimrock. The tense relationship is complicated by Susan Rutledge, a relative of the Prescotts (and eventual fiancee of Ferg). Pretty and sheltered, but with an essentially good heart, Susan and Bull fight the attraction that they both know is not only a bad but dangerous idea. Can Bull save his land and the woman he loves from the hated Prescotts?

As far as romance novels go, I enjoyed this one. The setting, early-to-mid 1970s Texas, was different from most that I read--the other Tylers of Texas installments apparently follow Bull and Susan's descendants. Some elements of the plot were simplistic, or glossed over (for instance, the Cooper story arc), but I'm a sucker for the "tough guy falls for nice girl" plot, and this is that in spades. Fun read over a summer weekend.

"Texas Fierce" tells of life on a ranch in the west when water was scarce and water rights could get someone killed. Bull comes home from the rodeo he loves to take over his family's failing ranch. Falling for the rich sexy Susan is something Bull really doesn't need or want. This is only the start of his troubles, with neighbors that are your enemies, sabotage at every turn, and his family ranch on the point of collapse. The rivalries and bad blood between neighbors, who were once old friends, makes Bull's job of saving his family ranch almost impossible. The grit and guts he shows in this story brings a HEA for Bull and Susan as well as the reader. Western romance never goes out of style, and Janet Dailey was one of the best. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for gifting me "Texas Fierce". My opinion is my own. This is mine. 4 Stars!

Nice continuation of the Tylers of Texas series with Bull front and center along with his ramshackle ranch and his few hands and cattle. Jasper, his right hand man, who stays on to help him after his father's death is more like an older brother.
The Prescott's are still around annoying neighbors, especially son Ferg, who has no love lost between him and Bull even if they had been childhood friends.
Susan, love interest to Ferg and Bull, has her work cut out for her and has to give up her Georgia ways if she's staying in Texas. Lots of ranching, animals, murders, bad behaviors by Ferg, sadness, fear, anger, crimes, laughter, triumph, happiness and a happily-ever-after. The epilogue gave nice closure.
I look forward to reading more books by Dailey

I have been a Janet Dailey fan for a long time. I found her book, Texas Fierce, to be a well paced story with lots of twists and turns. Young Bull Tyler is trying to keep the family ranch--The Rimrock--up and growing. Unfortunately he is forced to contend with his rich and powerful neighbors, the Prescott family. They will stop at nothing to get their hands on his ranch and he will do almost anything to keep them away from it! To further complicate matters, Bull has fallen for Ferg Prescott's ex-fiance. This story is filled interesting characters and has secrets and surprises. I enjoyed it and give it four stars! (I was surprised to see Big Spring, Texas mentioned, since my aunt lives there!)

TEXAS FIERCE by Janet Daley. Kensington Publisher
Virgil riding the bulls was in his blood, the ratings and just enough cash to get to the next one, loving the name Bull Bull Tyler. Yet, after a ride, he felt like he'd been run over by a freight train, and then to get low ratings.New came he now owes the land, with his Dad passing, but only bad memories come to mind. Questions come, nothing had change at the ranch, only enough in bank to run it for a few months. Why was his Dad up on the crest anyway. A good story of Virgil deciding what he wanted in life, to family values, or taking money and more bull riding. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

In this installment of the Tylers of Texas series Ms. Dailey takes us back in time when Bull Tyler first returned home to take over the ranch after his fathers passing. That's when he meets a very young Susan Rutledge. I wasn't a huge fan of hers at first. Typical spoiled rich girl. However, throughout the story she matures and grows into a wonderful woman. One deserving of the kind and determined Bull Tyler. She's willing to fight family, the land, and even Bull himself to win his heart. This is an interesting story of secrets, lies, and love. Definitely worth the read and one I highly recommend.

A Texas romance story. Ms Dailey always write a good western romance. This one is no exception. Bull Tyler, bull rider, returns to his home learning that his father has passed away. He learns that his father's ongoing feud with the Prescott's is still going on and this time it's between them and him. He happens to meet Susan Rutledge, daughter of Prescott's stepbrother. There's plenty of plots, intrigue, twists and turns and love to keep you interested. A nice little page turner!

History of the feud

Although this is book 4 it's really the start of the series. It sets the stage for the feud between two families that carries through the series.

It's the story of Bull and Susan, and background on the animosity between Ferg and Bull. There's plenty of lean times but the love between Susan and Bull triumphs.

I liked the background story for Rose too and how it figured into the family history.

It read like it had been written in the 80s. The book spans years. Bull and Susan had an interesting courtship, and he was just as bull-headed as his name implies when it came to keeping his ranch afloat. Between the sabotage and the investigation of a suspicious death, this romance had a lot going on, probably to its detriment.

Ms Dailey writes some very interesting books. There is love, mystery and the land. I'm am enjoying this new series. This one finds both Stella and Maria in the same prison. Maria has promised to get even with Stella. Stella before prison would lock her doors and have nightmaries. Can't wait to start #5

A resonably well written book about a exbull rider trying to make his inheirited ranch a sucess. Apparently the author was ignorant of Texas or did not bother to check geography as the caprock does not but up to the Texas hill country and Del Rio, Texas is more than a 6 hour ride form the imaginery town supposedly near Lubbock, Texas.

How the Tyler dynasty started...when young Virgil (aka Bull) returns to the ranch his father left him and his decisions on whether to stay and turn it around or to sell it. The influence, albeit bad, of the neighbors and lifelong family nemesis, the Prescott family, goes a long way in forming his decisions.

Bull's Dynasty

The story of a struggling rancher who fights to take his land from nothing to a successful enterprise. Along the way he falls in love, is accused of murder, and battles other obstacles along the way. A very thrilling book. One you'll hate to put down. I highly recommend it.

This is book 4 of the series.

It actually is the first though, as it is the story of Bull, Susan, Ham and Ferg.

Another good read, some love, blackmail, some people get shot, a prized bull is shot to save a young lady traipsing through his paddock.

I really have enjoyed this series...off to read the next instalment now. These books are so quick and easy to read.

Enjoyed reading another book in the The Tylers of Texas series. It was a little confusing at first because it was like a prelude to the other books I had already read in the series. But in the end,it helped me to understand some of the occurrences in the other 3 books. As in the others, lots of action.

Texas Fierce, is pretty much the prelude for the Tylers of Texas series. We get a lot of background information that is only touched on in Will's and Beau's stories. The only reason why I gave it only four stars is, I would have liked to see more of Bull and Susan together.

I have read every book in this series and have to say it's my favorite. It's a book that can be enjoyed by both women and men. It's a love story without being sappy and weak. It has warmth and deep feelings, loyalty and honesty. I hated to put it down.

A beautiful read

Loved reading how Bull Tyler got his name. His determination to get his life perfect and finally marrying Susan. Sad to note how his dad died and how Bull will die in Book 1 of this series. Awesomely written.
