Growing up in a small South Texas town just fifteen miles north of the Mexican border, his days were spent playing football on dirt roads or on empty lots. In high school, he played for a Texas powerhouse program—the Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets. His love for football continued even after college, as he joined several different recreational leagues and then began to officiate high school football games.
His passion for football had him chasing the dream of working as a referee for the National Football League. When it seemed that his journey had reached its end, divine intervention occurred and he was offered the opportunity of a lifetime. Garza was one of the approximately 136 officials who were hired as replacement referees for the NFL during the 2012 contract dispute with league officials.
The journey, fueled simply by passion, tested his patience, discipline and his deepest desires as he faced the impossible.
His passion for football had him chasing the dream of working as a referee for the National Football League.
