Six stars, easily. This was such a great book, and definitely one that will sit in my mind for a while.
First off, the characters were amazing, especially Myran 🤭 they were all great though, and I enjoyed coming up with different theories for each character and their backstories or what was gonna happen to them. I know that each one made an impact on me while reading, which is something I look for when I read books, especially fantasy.
The plot was great, and easily understandable while still having a sense of mystery and keeping me on the edge of my seat. The subplots were very well done, and added a lot of interest into the main story.
Definitely one of my favorite books of the year, and I would even say my second favorite out of all of them.

Content:
Violence, fighting, warfare
Clean romance

A land with a missing heir to the throne, a man tasked to find him, and a mysterious source trying to make sure that it never happens.

Micah Cooley writes in a way that is reminiscent of Tolkien, but a little easier to understand for those who have a hard time with Tolkien. He has created kingdoms with heroic characters that you can't help but root for. The pace was great and I remained interested the entire time. I can't wait read more from this author!

4.5 🌟
Adventure/Quest is my favorite sub genre of fantasy, so I'm a little more critical. The King sword reads fast & I liked the printing (not small & close together). The faith content is excellent and I could see the different stories the author drew from the Bible. I do wish that there would have been more a bit more on how the group bounded. It seemed liked This guy is in charge so let's trust him with our lives. There was a bit of romance & I am glad the story was more about the quest I think a short story or novella of the romance would add to the trilogy. Also there wasn't a lot of details about the romance. It seemed that they say each other & fell in love. There wasn't a lot in between & this is where there could've been a little more, especially while they traveled together. The last thing, I know it's a me thing, if a group of people/things attached me at night and an old man saved me (which I'd be internally greatfull) then said he knew me & has been watching,I would not follow him to his home in the middle of the woods. Overall this was a really good read and enjoyed reading. Oh, and Yan is my favorite character. Looking forward to the 2nd.

4.5⭐️… this was sooooo close to a 5⭐️ read for me, I loved so much about it! The characters were solid, the writing was very good (sans a handful of editorial issues), and the story was absolutely captivating… the only thing that is keeping it from a 5⭐️ for me is the lack of romance. I wish there would have been more of it, I wish it would have happened a tad earlier in the book (to really get a feel for the slow burn), and I wish we would have gotten a swoony kiss at the end. Other than that, this book was one of the best I’ve read this year & I can absolutely see it being one of my favorites of 2024.

It is exactly ten years ago that this book was first published. What a story my own life has been in that time. I can say that I have grown in many ways, but the core of this tale - The King Sword - is a lasting one. Although there are plenty of areas that show how green I was in writing, I still found myself smiling at the quirks of characters, fighting back tears at those personal moments, and feeling the air of that world still fresh and full of fantasy.

This story is full of Christian allegory that combines the wonders I have loved in the Old Testament with flavors from the book of Acts. I can tell that it was written at that time when my faith was young and marked by that zealous kind of belief. I definitely had a flare for the sensational when it comes to writing a climax. But there is also symbolism that I used, like the shining city, that will probably always find a way into my stories in some form.

Time to press on into new adventures, with the heart of the King Sword still very much a piece of me.

This book has everything I love for a medieval fantasy story. The plot is dangerous and exciting and the world mysterious and beautiful. The characters are very well developed and the kind you wish you could know in real life! I absolutely loved this book from cover to finish!
