This is my first Harper Lauren book and it was super cute. I say cute because I knew where it was going when it started. That's not to say there isn't anything good in this book. The banter, the fun, the sexy times between Ivan and Cassie are great. I've just read this plot before. That's all.
But Harper Lauren gives us two people who are trying to find their footing after having the rugged ripped out from under them.
Cassie is used to getting her way. She's used to spending money that isn't hers. She's used to the city. So, when her high profile dad sends her to his hometown to learn about money and work ethic, she's at a total loss. She's twenty-five and completely cut-off from her finances. Instead of being homeless, she goes to live with her aunt at her dad's "suggestion".
Ivan is home because of an injury. He's staying with him mother to help around the house and to help with the bills. But when an opportunity is practically thrown in his lap, how could he refuse?
He can't. Obviously.

4 Star Review of Hard Game (Wild Boys Sports #1) by Harper Lauren
Harper Lauren is a new author to me and I listened to this book on audio. Hard Game was a good start to a new series and I look forward to the next book from Harper Lauren.
I enjoyed Hard Game but I was not keen on the narration and did not feel that they did the book justice, however that is just my opinion.
Cassy is a 25 year old spoiled rich girl; used to spending her father’s money and partying hard. When her father has had enough he sends her to stay with her aunt in the hopes that she will change her ways before it is too late.
Ivan is recovering from a injury that may end his career, he is intrigued when Cassy’s father approaches him and offers him money to befriend and guide her, hopefully teaching her to become more responsible along the way.
The attraction between Cassy and Ivan grows but what will happen when Cassy finds out that Ivan was paid to get to know her?
From the start Cassy annoyed me and although she grew on me (as her attitude improved) I really couldn’t get into her.

Poorly written
As a former English teacher I found this book very poorly written. The characters were stiff, the dialog stilted and the characters were not well developed. A good editor would have been welcome, or even a knowledgeable proofreader.

This was a good coming of age type story. Cassy is your typical rich spoiled brat who has never had to work a day in her life, spends money like it grows on trees, and parties her life away. Well, she has done it all to the point she has pissed daddy off and he has shipped her to her aunt's house to straighten up and get her life in order. While there she meets Ivan who is home nursing a knee injury that has him sidelined from his professional football team. Unbeknownst to her, he has been hired by her father to befriend her and help teach her responsibility. Of course, sparks fly and what started as a paid assignment has turned into a growing, true attraction. How will Cassy feel when she learns the reason Ivan became close to her? You have to pick up a copy to find out.
This was my first read by Harper Lauren. It was ok - not my favorite, but definitely not the worst I've read - kind of in the middle for me. I'm not a huge go-all-out football fan, but from what I know, I just didn't think her details regarding the sport jived with me. But that is just my opinion, others may not agree. There were several parts of the story I liked, but nothing really stood out to me as great or memorable. So that's why it's just a so-so story to me. But, hey, these opinions are mine and mine alone. But she isn't a spoiled brat at all, so she tries to make the best of it. She even uses the time to work on her dream, making clothes and becoming a fashion designer.
Her father doesn't trust her to behave so when he has to change to bring in a spy he does. He pays Ivan to check on Cassy.
From the moment they met there are sparks flying and it is fun to read their fighting with words. But soon sparks become a real fire and they have a very hot time in the barn one evening. Afterwards they both take a step back, but the magic between them is still there.
They bring out the best in each other, he helps her working on her dream when she finally share it with him. And she inspires him to do something while recovering from his knee injury.
Of course her dad paying him comes out on the worst moment and they break up.
But they can't resist each other and they keep an eye on each other.
Will they come back together for real? For that you have to read the book, you won't regret it.

This was a sweet sports romance with just a touch of steam. Cassy is the typical rich, spoiled, brat. Her father is tired of her wasting her her days on shopping and parties. He's sent her to the country to live with his sister until she can get her act together. Ivan is a football star who's recovering from an injury. He continues his recovery in the country so he can help his mom. Cassy's father called Ivan and offers to pay him handsomely to help Cassy become more responsible. But what happens when things start to heat up between them?
I honestly did not like Cassy at all in the beginning. She was entitled and spoiled. I liked how she grew as a person throughout the story. I also liked the banter between Cassy and Ivan.

Ivan deserves five stars just by himself, his actions really touched my heart. No he isn't perfect, this is fiction even real life isn't perfect. I have been reading the romance genre over 40 years so any romance that can draw me emotionally enough to even feel like having happy tears is a well written story. To me, it's not about having read something similar before (in general), it's about how this story that I am reading right now made me feel. I think Cassy played too hard to get but to Ivan, she is the "love of my life" and his actions toward her supported that. Once I started reading this, I was up all night finishing it. :)

Casey a spoiled rich brat at age 25 lives for shopping, partying and spending her parents money. Her father fed up with her lifestyle ships her off to her aunt's farm. She has to stay there and work on the farm until she can prove that she can be responsible. Ivan a football player is home recovering from an injury that will keep him off the field for months is hired to keep an eye on Casey and teach her some responsibility.

Sweet Read with some steam.
This was not like the typical sports romance books I have read. You have a spoiled brat rich girl who is forced to live in a small country town with her aunt when her father cannot take anymore of her throwing her life away. Then you have a man who has made it out of the small town to play pro ball but when he is injured he comes home to his mom to recover. Cassy develops well as a charter thru the story and them together is cute. I liked the ending, though not the typical whirlwind HEA that most have it fit the story well.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. In many ways this is a coming of age story with Cassy's father putting her under the care of Ivan. She was as spoiled as they came, but she matured under the watchful eye and direction of Ivan. Sparks follow and the story heats up. Great read with interesting characters and an entertaining storyline. I received an advance copy and voluntarily chose to review.

A good read about Cassy who moves back to Burchnell to stay at her Aunt Helens farm on her fathers bidding. He wants her to grow up and get her act together. Ivan was also in Burchnell recovering from a sports knee injury, he is a pro footballer. Cassys’ fathers asks Ivan to keep an eye on her and so the story begins. I did enjoy this sweet romance and would recommend it as a must read. This is my honest review of an ARC I received.

I liked this story ..I liked how Cassy the spoiled brat was forced to grow up and be responsible. I liked Ivan too, he wasn't your usual arrogant athlete. He was cocky sometimes yes, but an all around decent guy. I liked that the story progressed and built up to their feelings as well. A good read. I voluntarily read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Good read
A very nice light hearted romance. This is the kind of book that I really enjoy reading. There is a plenty of romance and character building. I did think however that the couple jumped into the sex scene too soon. I skipped over those because it takes away from the romance for me.

So this was a cute little story. I did feel like some of it was so OTT with Cassy though. The way she talked and things she said. However, I did love their story of how they met, what all happened and how it all turned out.
