I don't know what to say about this except I didn't like this. not a bit.
It was not reading manga but watching an anime. I like dramatic but not everything needs to dramatic.

Not gonna lie this manga had so many similarities to Kamisama Kiss it felt like I was reading a knock-off Tomoe & Nanami lol
But if you like the thought of a super fast-paced Kamisama Kiss style manga with a demon fox and a healer of sorts then definitely check it out!!

It was interesting…
It was ok. I’ve always been interested in Fox Spirits. I have to say, this guy’s a dick. He made the main heroine his servant against her protests then later on his wife. He does have a heart as he saves her a few times. As for the girl, she really needs to choose better who and what she heals. At least she’s not a pushover, though.
Otherwise, this was an ok read. I may read the sequel.

More reviews (and no fluff) on the blog http://surrealtalvi.wordpress.com/
We've seen this premise so many times and also done better. The Demon Prince of Momochi House or even Inu Yasha provided unique takes that made them far more read-worthy than Fox's Kiss. The art here is fine but lacking the scope and sheer beauty of Momochi House. The story is straight forward and greatly missing the humor and zeal of Inu Yasha. What we are left with is a bog standard story of a rather stupid and insipid girl and an obnoxious and rude demigod. Cue inexplicable and illogical mutual attraction.Story: Kohaku stumbles through life until one day she discovers that her grandmother's tale of healing yokai was actually true - and that she inherited this power. This makes her a target for both good and bad yokai and one especially annoying fox-creature. Will he save the clueless girl from the evil demons (and herself)?
The usual cliches are here: unique snowflake with no other redeemable qualities suddenly finds she has a skill that is dangerous yet no one seemed interested in her family in telling her how to use it (or even that she would inherit it). Love interest comes along and saves her continually while she levels up her skills.
The artwork and illustration work is about what you would expect from this type of shoujo manga. You likely won't be reading it for the art and I think impressionable young girls may find this title most entertaining.
So yes, we've seen it before and there are better titles out there as a first resort. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

ARC received from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Fox's Kiss is a pretty typical shoujo manga. Koharu is a typical high school girl with fond memories of her youth; her grandmother always talked about seeing and healing demons, but as Koharu grew older, she realized those stories were all lies... Until her grandmother passes away and she meets Iori, a fox demon, and realizes those powers now belong to her. Iori says he's taking Koharu on a servant, but he's the one who follows her back to the city and stays by her side while she tries to live her normal life at school.
This manga is, as I said, very typical. You have a love triangle between the charming prince of the school, the rough, bratty newcomer, and the 'normal' high school girl, Iori declaring that Koharu is his fiance because he said so (she is also 16), and a fast-paced story full of ups and downs. This story was pretty dramatic and had a LOT going on every chapter, so this was even faster-paced than I'm used to. This would be great for fans of Inuyasha or Fruits Basket, but it's so reliant on tropes that people who love those stories will most likely find this repetitive and unsatisfying.
Unfortunately, as someone who has read manga and watched anime for a while, this was nothing I hadn't seen before and I ended up being very unimpressed. There are always ways to take tropes and stories and redo them in a fresh way, and I wouldn't bar anyone their take on this sort of story! In this case, however, it was cluttered, basic, and I wouldn't pay money to continue.

An entertaining story with a lot of the same, reused shojo tropes, but the plot was fast-paced enough that you didn't feel like it was dull or boring even with it being cliche.
Definitely not a fan of the male "love interest" forcing his relationship onto the female, underage character. This is such a huge theme in shojo manga and the YA genre and it's really not great. In this story, the romance is reciprocated, but this whole idea of just finding some girl and being like "Hey, you're my girlfriend/fiance/wife/bride" is so not OK, especially when the female characters says, multiple times, NO to this affection.
It doesn't matter if she fell for him eventually or not. It's the fact that she had no choice in the matter, the power dynamic is heavily slanted toward the male love interest getting his way literally no matter what, and that this is a really scary reality for a lot of girls and women today.
So if we could PLEASE stop perpetuating this really toxic romantic plot line in stories for women and girls, that would be great, OK.

Clearly not my best read
Key words: manga, shojo, romance, fantasy, high school
I like this first volume but I have not much to say about it. Indeed, I can confidently say that in a few weeks, I won’t really remember the story. That doesn’t mean that it was bad though; it’s just that I think it is very classic and doesn’t have any elements to make it stand out of the shojo crowd for the moment. However, I will read the other two volumes in order to judge the series in its entirety.
Koharu, the main girl, is sweet and she likes helping others and I liked Iori most of the time but things happened quite quickly and I am not yet attached to them. Especially since Iori kissed and slept next to Koharu without her being okey with it. I liked the use of fantasy and that there were all different kinds of creatures though.
I recommend to people looking for a short romance.

This is a sweet little story that would be perfect for fans of Inuyasha or Noragami who want just a short, quick read that's not as intense. It's a fun story with the classic manga trope where the secret world of demons meets with the world of humans and they clash with bouts of witty banter and hilarious culture shocks. This volume has the perfect set up for future volumes, leading into the story with Koharu's inherited healing powers and steadily building to some kind of relationship between her and Iori that she hasn't quite figure out and he seems willing to change on a whim. Leading with a cast of interesting characters, like Koharu's sempai who promises to be a rival for Iori, and a myriad of lesser demons drawn in by Koharu's king nature.

2.5 stars*
koharu get away from the fox wtf is up with him? "oh did i forget to tell you?? we're engaged now because we kissed *shrug* i don't make the rules"
dude,, chill. the art is beautiful though so that kinda makes up for the weird, rushed and cliche storyline.

I was provided a free copy of this book by Netgalley and Akita Publishing Co., Ltd., in exchange for an honest
review.
Now, I must say that I'm pretty new to Manga genre. I haven't read a lot of them. In fact this is my second Manga book. My first one was 'All You Need is Kill' by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, which was a science fiction novel and I absolutely loved it.
Coming back to the book at hand, 'The Fox's Kiss, Vol 1' is a Shoujo manga, meaning it's a romantic fantasy book and I actually enjoyed reading it. Here's my review of the book:
Rating: 4/5⭐
Synopsis: Koharu, is a young girl with very fond and strange memories of her childhood spend with her grandma. Her grandma would often talk about seeing demons and healing all the creatures who are hurt. But, after her grandma dies, Koharu discovers that all the things her grandma has said we're true. When she accidentally heals a very strong fox demon, she discovers that she too has her grandma's powers. The handsome fox demon, Iori, then makes Koharu his servant and later bride. He kisses her and they are engaged. What will happen to Koharu, now? How will she live with the fox demon in his human form? Where is her fate leading her? Read on to find out.
Review: A very short and sweet volume 1. I loved the art, it was so pretty and appealing. The cover is gorgeous, in fact it's because of the cover that I requested this book.
I like the characters. Koharu is my favourite, I love how cute, determined, kind and stubborn she is. Iori is hilarious. There were scenes between Iori and Koharu that made me laugh.
As for the story, it's interesting. There are all the right elements in this book, there's romance, a love triangle, action, and magic, plus the story is fast paced. I mean what more do you need. I'll definitely pick up the next volume. I see a lot of potential in this series.
Now, the one thing I didn't like was the forced engagement. Koharu was given no choice in the matter. And even when she said no multiple times Iori was just turning a blind eye towards it. I agree that Koharu fell for Iori eventually but the way their story started is not good. Romanticising forced relationships where one person has no choice over the relationship is not ok. It gives wrong ideas to today's youth. Apart from that one thing, I actually enjoyed reading this manga.
If you love action, drama, magic and romance, then I'd suggest that you give this book a try.

Thanks to NetGalley for giving me an opportunity to try out this title.
I'm pretty new to manga, although I've been reading manhwa (Korean) for a bit. I'm mostly drawn to the art, which I really liked. The character depictions are very consistent and appealing. I liked the demons too. Shape-shifter characters are my favorite, so I liked Iori. I wish there was more info on the grandma and her relationship to the tool god.
The story was a little uneven and many background and plot details were omitted; perhaps these were lost in translation. Nonetheless, it was a cute starter and I'd try book #2.

Our protagonist discovered that she's inherited her grandmother's powers when she heals a male kitsune, or fox-spirit. Suddenly she's involved with him romantically, and she's discovering that the guy from school she has a crush on is in fact half-oni (Japanese troll).
I'm a little uncomfortable about the translator using the term "demon" for a class of beings from Japanese folklore. At least for me, the term "demon" has certain theological implications that really don't fit with the traditional representation of the youma and yokai. But translation is always an exercise in finding a reasonably good fit, and a perfect fit often simply isn't possible.

After the death of her Grandmother, Koharu discovers that she has inherited her grandmother's healing powers. She can now see and heal demons. This was revealed to her when she healed a fox boy (handsome one at that) in the forest. He follows her home and decides that she is to become his bride. He kisses her and they are engaged.

Did Not Finish
October 6, 2024DNF halfway through, so no star rating. This feels like the outline for a story. It's SOOO terribly rushed. It depends on you already being familiar with stories like this and plugging in your emotions from past characters that are like these. These aren't characters, they are just placeholders. Someone read things like Kamisama Kiss and Ghost Bride and didn't want to set up their own world, just wanted to play in someone elses.
It's fine. It's forgettable, which is a shame.

Well, it got me hooked
I'm terrible at reading manga but I could read most of this fine without messing up the reading order. The art style is pretty cool too and the plot reminded me of a similar anime and I wouldn't mind seeing this as an anime too. It's pretty good, I just need to get the rest of the volumes.

I really enjoy manga and although I did enjoy this one I would have liked a bit more detail. The lack of detail and character development made the plot feel very rushed. Regardless I do want to read the second volume to see how the story progresses and how the author grows. The art was beautiful and definitely enjoyed it.

I liked the story, once I got into it, and the drawings were beautiful. Really well rendered. I was a bit thrown to begin with because, on Kindle, the beginning is at the end (the 100% mark) and you have to scroll backwards to work through the narrative. Frankly, it took me longer than it should have to realise that was why I couldn't make sense of it.
