there's so much to say. i've had twenty lifetimes in this 43 years. i've been a homeless drunk, strung out on whatever's cheaper. that was my twenties. my thirties saw me become a workaholic. i'm just now getting back into art and writing. i've just released THRESHOLDS, an erotica novella and that's what brought me to goodreads. i have other [projects in the works too. i also do canvas paint, multimedia and sculpture. i love carpentry, the most i believe.
I never thought another Author, let alone, a new Author would steer me away from writing my normal, formatted, reviews. However, Christopher Donaho has done just that. Rarely does a book leave me stunned into silence, broken with tears, and ripped to shreds, but, Thresholds did all of these things and more. John and Julia were the right kind of wrong. Two people so in sync with their uninhibited need for one another. Tortured souls that fed, took, and ravaged each other bodies in a way that is indescribable. Raw need, passion, deliberate lust that knew no bounds. This Author wrote an exquisite tale of seduction that sucked you in, chewed on your nerve endings, and left you a puddle of mess. Electric, magical, raunchy, angry, twisted, lustful….these words are only the tip of the iceberg when I think about this read. Dark undertones cap this off and guts you in the end. I was left stunned, hurt, teary, vulnerable….so many emotions. Every scene had me biting my lip, tingling, wanting, and waiting for the climax. Just the two of them wrapped up in each other...Time apart was their foreplay and each time they got together an explosion of pure fire and hunger erupted. This is not a love story with a plot and all of the fixings, this is a book of encounters, almost like poems that show how two broken people can function in their own dysfunction. For the reader who wants an erotic fix without the fluff, I highly recommend this read. I simply cannot wait to read more from this Author. A very rare 5 Star Read from a new Author! Kudos Christopher!
New author, Christopher Donaho socks it to us with a velvet hammer in this erotic account, Thresholds: Two very broken people, one very sordid remedy. Waxing poetic, the protagonist, John, unleashes twenty years of pent-up angst for Julia, in a weekend reunion with her. Although sex is the plot in this first person, past tense, ‘cabin in the woods’ romp, there’s more. John’s thoughts about his sex life are honest, melodramatic and sometimes, funny.
Two solid characters, a destination, a collaboration and a great ending. This is a very cleverly written short story. In under 8000 words, it accomplishes what most authors fail to attain with forty-thousand words. If erotica is your genre of choice and you crave enlightened heat, Thresholds, book 1 may be your ticket to paradise. XXX Strictly mature content. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I started this book not knowing the author and his work. Am glad to say I was pleasantly surprised. The book is laid back, down to earth, and real life. I enjoyed immensely and loved the well written words and real life feeling. I'm not a spoiler, but will say the characters are great. Hot as hades, and emotional as two people who have never committed, kinda committed to each other without realizing it. The ending will take your breath away. Recommend as a great read, well written, and super interesting. Made me think of my high school/early adult years.
This was closer to a 3.5 star read for me but I rounded up because it WAS a little different. It was as described to me, super short and yes very erotic. There are issues in the story for both John and Julia that are super glossed over because of the length of the book but the story had the ability to have more substance if the author wanted it to. Truly super steamy yes and if that's why you are reading it...you'll love it. I wanted more :)
I don’t know what I just read! I don’t know why I even finished it! I think the author wants to be a poet? Lots of words...descriptive useless words. He really loves the word “sweat”. This is a short book about two depressed people who meet again after a hot night in college. They meet occasionally and smoke weed and get wild in the sheets.
What a book taking you on a journey that you don’t see coming. If you only what a HEA don’t read, if you want a real touching and REaAL story read and enlighten yourself, this is life
Wow...I am not sure what to say other than what a wild, erotic ride. I guess the ending should not have been as shocking as it it was, but it caught me completely off guard.
My first book by this author, I was not disappointed. His words have a way of making you feel like you're going through what the characters are. His writing is magic. The steamy scenes..are just, mmhhmmm. Its raw and emotional. Will definitely be reading more of his work.
Thresholds is unlike any other book I have read. It tells the story of two people that were friends and had a hot, steamy and memorable night of sex at the end of college and went on with their lives. Many years later, they meet up and again have hot steamy sex and smoke weed. They both have busy lives and careers, but they begin meeting up when they can, for more of the same. Are they falling in love? Will they be able to commit to each other? Or are they both so broken that nothing can heal them? You would need to read it to see for yourself. I honestly did not see the ending coming, but should have. This is a quick read, and is rather deep and honestly I can see it all happening in real life. It feels like this is someone real life experience.
Thresholds has left me a sobbing mess! How? It’s a short, quick story. At least that’s what the author wants you to think. This story has so much in such a short number of pages. The words pull so much from you and leave you grasping for more. This is the first book I have read from this author and I will be reading more after Thresholds.
Wow, this one really threw me for a loop. The writing was absolutely beautiful, not at all what I would expect in a novella that is erotic romance. John and Julia are both suffering and find refuge in each other and their few and brief encounters making this book feel "real". The way this ended was unexpected and left it hard for me to just pick up another book. I would have given it more stars if I had just a bit more of John and Julia's story, my mind kept telling me something was missing.
This was one of the first books that I've read by this author. In all honesty from reading the blurb I had no clue what I would find in this book. I wasn't sure if in all the sex filled pages a romance would play out. Never did I think this story would end as abruptly as it did. It was worth reading up till the very end. Threshold was far from one of the best wrote stories. It was even farther from the worst. I hope the next reader enjoys this story more then I did.
I enjoyed the fact that such a short book was able to provide a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Happiness, hurt, anger, sadness. I felt it all while reading this.
This is my first book by this author so I wasn’t going in expecting anything. I did find from the beginning that it felt overly descriptive, even for the smallest of things. The story also jumps around a lot and I found some bits confusing.
This is a very sexy and erotic story that grips you and lets you feel everything with both characters. All their love and all their sufferings. And all the lonelines.
I like a style of writing with sometimes unusual word combinations that somehow make two seemingly unconectable words fit together to the perfection and over.
This book had my head spinning! First, one direction, then all of a sudden it went in a different direction! At times, I was a little confused with what was going on so I had to go back and reread it. All in all, a good book with the trials and tribulations of existing.
This is a really different story and you automatically understand what the character is feeling. Two people trying to connect even though it’s been years but they are older now and their demons still haunt them. It’s a very short story but and longer wouldn’t have given the effect, it does leave you wondering.
This book had my head spinning. I felt that it was a good book in some ways, but that it didn’t really have a clear background as to what was going on. It just kept jumping around and didn’t really going into too much detail on each person so I was always left confused, which caused me to have to keep going back to reread previous pages to understand what was going on.
A quick, sexy read about the connection of two people as they come together again later in life and explore each other. Their connection is physical and fueled by their smoking. The end is tragic but closes all the doors.
This was not at all what I imagined when I started to read this book. The author is amazing with words, which made it very easy to get into the book and imagine everything that was being written. This book has all the feels and will leave you with a massive book hangover.
I really struggled with this book. With the whiplash of events just seemed to skip all over the place. Many times I had to reread as the POV seemed all over the place.
Okkkkkaaayyyy, this book was definitely different from what I usually read but it was oh soooo good. I really enjoyed reading this novel. It was short and extra steamy. Definitely recommended.
You really need to enjoy erotica a lot to enjoy this one. With that being said, this author has a great use of words. If you can get past the rest of to just enjoy that.
This book was not my usual type but WOW! I couldn't put it down once I started! This book was amazingly written. What a fantastic book! I would love to read more from Christopher Donaho!
