Layne Davies needed a break—a break from the busy bodies in her small town of Keeneston, Kentucky and a break from dating men who turned into scared little boys upon meeting her father. That’s why she was so excited to have been invited to speak at a medical conference in Charleston, South Carolina. Never did she think her whole life would change the second she stepped on that stage.

Walker Greene can’t talk about his job. He can’t talk about what happened that one night off the coast of Nigeria when his team was ambushed. No one would believe him even if he could talk about it. But his training kept him alive until he was able to sneak back into his small hometown of Shadows Landing, South Carolina. But when people show up looking for Walker, he has no choice but to listen to his best friend, Dr. Gavin Faulkner, and turn to a total stranger for help.

Layne may be Gavin Faulkner’s estranged cousin, but that doesn’t mean she’ll drop everything to work with someone who Gavin refuses to tell her anything about . . . until she sees Walker Greene. All her protective instincts come alive upon seeing the wounded soldier and Layne knows there’s only one place to keep him safe—Keeneston. Walker becomes a hunted man, and Layne is determined to keep him safe as she finds herself drawn to him more and more each day.

Forever Devoted is the Eighth book in the Forever Bluegrass series (Bluegrass Book #22) by Kathleen Brooks. ‘Bluegrass’ combines romance and suspense, with a touch of Southern charm.
A few years ago a friend recommended this author, and her many series, to me - as she had devoured every book and absolutely loved them, singing the author’s praises from high from the hilltops. So, being an avid reader who loves discovering new authors and enticing reads, I took my friends recommendations seriously, and started amassing Ms. Brooks many books, with the plan to have a huge binge session/buddy read with my friend. But with so many books on my TBR, and new, exciting ones releasing every week, I always seemed to get pulled into other books- as these just kept piling up.
Since part of my yearly reading challenges for the past few years has been to dust off my TBR pile/s and read the books that have been languishing there the longest, I decided to finally dive in and get the series read. While I did ‘enjoy’ the books for the most part- I didn’t fall madly in love with them as my friend promised that I would. But that’s ok, I am really happy that she loves them as much as she does. But for me, they were just an ‘okay’ read.
With plenty of small-town drama, intrigue, angst, chemistry, humour, community, family, friendship, charm, mystery, tension, danger, emotion, and suspense- the stories are about finding love unexpectedly and love conquering all.
The books can all be read as standalones if you wanted, without feeling ‘lost’ or like you are missing big pieces of the picture. This is because each instalment introduces its own ‘couple’- providing plenty of romance, a dash of suspense, and some sweet development to make your heart flutter.
But I have to be honest, I found there were a few issues which detracted from my overall enjoyment of the stories/series. Such as the ‘wordiness’ which really slowed the flow of the storyline at times, as there was such an overwhelming amount of detail which didn’t really ‘add’ to or propel the story in any way, except to perhaps distract from the plot. I love details, normally- but not when there are pages of descriptions, as things tend to ‘bog’ down and the flow/pace/plot gets lost amongst the detritus- and also leads to some ‘wandering’ storylines. There were also many loose ends, for me- threads that were left hanging, or not fully woven into the storyline- which I found a bit frustrating.
I really wanted to love this series as much as my friend did…. but instead, I was left a little disappointed.
Happy reading! 📚💙

Oh my gosh that was amazing! I loved Layne and Walker together. They made such a good team.
I was really excited that we got to meet the Davies cousins. It was a really fun surprise, and the fact that we got to meet all of them, and that Walker sister goes back to Shawdows Landing makes me think that Ms. Brooks is going to write a spin off...maybe...fingers crossed.
This book definitely takes you through a roller coaster of emotions. There were some really sad moments, some really tender moments, some really suspenseful moments, and obviously some very funny moments (you can't have a book with Aniyah and the Rose sisters without having many laughing out loud moments).
You kind of get to know Layne through some of the other books but she was still kind of a mystery to me until I read her book, and can I just say she is really freaking awesome! I mean that's kinda what you would expect from Mile's daughter, but I wasn't really expecting her to be able to achieve some of the things she achieves. Especially put up against Nash. LOL that was funny moment.
Walker was just as kick but in my opinion. He is a Seal for crying out loud. But I think what a really enjoyed about him was how tender he was with Layne and later with his sister. It was really quite adorable.
And that ending! Can I just say oh my gosh, Oh My Gosh, OH MY GOSH!!!!! We finally get the mystery behind Reagan, and can I just say that I called it. A few months ago I decided I was going to read all the books again before I read this one (which was really by the way), and as I was going through the kids books I kept trying to speculate who Reagan was secretly dating. I figured it had to be someone close by, or that she saw often enough, and I came to the conclusion who I wanted it to be. It all fit together so perfectly in my mind, that when it came to the final reveal, I was almost afraid to read who it was, cuz I got so attached to who I was hoping it would be that I was going to be so sad if it wasn't him. But I was right, and I literally sat in bed squealing with delight after I read it. Now I just need her book right now! I'm just happy that I don't have to wait too long for it.
If you haven't read this series, I would definitely give it a shot, I've really enjoyed reading it!

I gave this book a 2. All of Kathleen Brooks's books are wayyy to similar. All the characters and the plot lines are basically the same. I mean all the women are strong independent and crazy smart and good with a gun. All the parents are the same if they are from Keeneston except Pierce. It's also presumptuous to say that only because he wasn't in the military he doesn't want to protect his children. Also all the love interests are the same. The guys are all ex-military go to the gym and are nice. Like can you make a guy that is slightly different. I also find it slightly homophobic that only one character in this gigantic town is gay. Yes, that could be taking it too far but come on. Veronica is the only gay character. No other sibling, friend or villain is part of the LGBTQ+ community. I mean she has written more than 30 books! Also he plots are all the same. You could literally switch out the name's of the main characters and I wouldn't notice the difference. This is of course only for Forever bluegrass stories. Also it always seems to be the same type of villain. I get that that's her thing but it shouldn't be the main conflict. The conflict is always oh no a terrorist has it out to kill my new girlfriend that I have know for two minutes! I have to stop it. There are zero relationship problems except is this moving too fast? I mean of course all their relationships are moving too fast! They get engaged after two months! All of them! It is completely unrealistic. Yes most of them are under threatening circumstances and things get heated and emotions run high but no! For example in Forever saved (book#14) the circumstances aren't even that dire. This was the only example that plopped into my head. Generally this review is more for all of Kathleen Brooks's books and not just this one. Just saying that she needs a little variety in her books. i do not know why I buy her books.

Layne and Walker meet under unexpected circumstances. Walker has just come back stateside after witnessing his team commander commit treason. Walker's entire team was killed and he is left reeling afterwards. He barely survives and knows he needs help. Enter Layne's distant cousin who seeks out her professional help in rehabbing Walker. Walker has instant attraction to Layne, but she is resistant to having a personal relationship with a patient. Walker and Layne decide that trying to hide Walker in Kenneston is their only option. It doesn't take long for her dad, Miles, to come sniffing around (the fact he spies on her didn't help matters) and he realizes who Walker really is. Walker is the first man that stands up to Miles and doesn't back down from the entire clan. They were impressed with him. Layne knows she is falling for him and isn't quite sure what Walker feels for her. Walker did a noble thing and doesn't want to put Layne in a compromising position so he decides to do what he thinks is right. Layne doesn't quite agree and she did act like a spoiled brat at points about it. The whole town does come together to help Walker and the story was quite interesting. I liked how distant relatives were brought in and, it appears, there will be more to their stories. It was a good addition to this series.

Forever Devoted

This was an amazing addition to the Forever Bluegrass series with the Davis family and all of Keeneston helping to clear the name of a former SEAL now a member of the elite group DEVGRU, Walker Greene who survived a massacre of their men by one of their own Jed Melville. He falls in love with Layne after his friend Gavin, who happens to be her cousin, introduces them when he is suffering injuries from being shot by Jed then having to swim for his life to reach his friend who is a doctor. Layne is a doctor who specializes in rehabbing soldiers and takes him on and hides him because Jed wants him dead so that he does not tell the truth about what really happened at the Nigerian Waters op. It is fantastic how the story unfolds with the whole town and the Davis brother's accept Walker and take down the bad guys overcoming several serious situations. It is amazing how these two, Layne and Walker fall in love with her even saving his life at one point. He loves how she is so tough and capable to fight by his side because her father, Miles taught her so well. They get their happily ever after and the betting pools go wild with Reagan the next cousin to find love with Carter in the next release. I highly recommend this exciting action packed romantic book and am looking forward to the next book in this series

I love Kathleen Brooks and the quirky folks in Keeneston, Kentucky! Another impressive addition to the Bluegrass series!

Forever Devoted is a wonderful romantic suspense tale! The suspense is a brilliantly complex thriller with pulse pounding danger, betrayal and anxiety inducing threats! Layne and Walker endure several harrowing moments at the hands of desperate killers and of course the Davies family scrutiny! Both are about equally deadly!
While trying to avoid Layne's overprotective family and the famous Keeneston gossip mill, Layne and Walker manage to find their forever love!
The grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, cousins and grandchildren ( to many to remember) are joined by the long lost Faulkeners and the family tree becomes beyond cumbersome. Fortunately Kathleen has an addendum with the family tree as the reader tries to sort who's who! If you've read most of the series you will be familiar with most of them, as well as, the Keeneston characters!
The bottom line.... this title is a great read! It has happy and sad emotional moments, laugh out load banter and cringe worth suspense! I truly recommend all the series and branch off books too! These book are why we read romantic suspense! Add Kathleen Brooks to your read list! (The Lies series is also amazing)!

What....who....sniffle....sob....seriously

WOW....what can I say, just pulled an all-nighter because I couldn't put this down. I loved Layne and Walkers story, action packed - check, passionate - check, suspense, shock, twists - New extended family (watch this space on that I feel) big bad guys, Keeneston being itself, the locals still making me laugh out loud, the horror of the events that bring Layne and Walker together, the unfolding story of being a loose end in the cross hairs of an evil colleague/"brother". The Davies fathers with a starring role, so much all packed in, the women quietly taking control! Another match, updates on the rest of the extended family, taking on the bad guys, Laynes father, his brothers, Ahmed..... so good, sooooo good. Not much else I can say but if you like getting lost in a book, this is for you, alpha guys, the women that take their hearts, the action, suspense and down right overload on the feels, (still sobbing) this is for you. The only drawn back - read the series in order, not a hardship, you'll enjoy them all the more, and be hooked!

As usual it doesnt disappoint !

Knocked it out of the park yet again! I was hooked the moment I discovered the very first BLUEGRASS book. With each and every book there after in fell more and more in live with this motley cast of characters. They all now feel like family to me... I look forward to seeing what antics occur in every new story. Especially what's up with the infamous Rose sisters hehehe. You can read this book without having read all the others, HOWEVER in highly suggest waiting to read the others first. That way you gain a rich backstory to all these brilliant characters. Tons of suspense, and amazingly strong women who fight side by side with their alpha men fill these pages. Lost family found and old pain healed. I cannot wait to see which relative falls in love next... And also to see what type of trouble heads their way. I never tire of the stories in Keeneston... And with finding new relatives maybe a new town to see what trouble and love hides? Here's to the future!

New to me author and I really liked this book. Walker Greene is the lone survivor of a betrayal by teammate, this traitor killed the whole seal team to rob a captured freighter and steal gold and precious cargo. The traitor (who the public now thinks is a hero) is on talk shows and getting book deals AND searching for Walker... the only body that was not recovered. If Walker is found he will be killed and he doesn't know who to trust. He is wounded and needs help and gets it from his friend Gavin who sets him up with Layne Davies a specialist in difficult injury rehab.
Layne is from an unusual family and town as the all are spies, ex-military and general badasses even the old folks.
I found this totally entertaining, loved the narration. I also like this book was under 300 pages/7 hours audio.

I am really starting to have a problem with so many authors writing 400/500 pages and 14hrs on audio. I want a good STORY, likeable characters, fun, excitement that is NOT a week/month long commitment otherwise I'd read War and Peace or Crime and Punishment again.

Once again Kathleen Brooks hit it out of the park! I loved this book. Layne and Walker were great together from the get go. I loved how the lost extended family was brought into the picture. I cannot wait for that to play out. I think this book made me laugh out loud more the antics of Miles oh heck all the brothers protecting their "girls" is hysterical. Love how Pierce is not handling or at least his mouth is not handling Tammy being pregnant too well! Anniyah is absolutely hysterical with her gun fetish. Amazing how she keeps getting them! Also love how Walker picked up on Fr. Ben and that there is more to him. Hope he gets a story in the future. Love how the entire town comes together and gets the job done. I had my family chart at the end trying to put everyone with everyone. Bring on the next one!!!

Overall Amanda rating: A+++++++

Layne is a Bad***!! I love Layne! Her character, her family, her Father, her Mother. The fact that she know seven ways to kill a man using a dull spoon. the fact that she is a better shot than all the other guys including her special ops Father....

This book was perfection!

Walker is perfect for Layne is so many ways. He isn't scared of her dad and willing to stand up for the fact that he loves her. He doesn't need to fear for her life and yet He does... But then He also isn't surprised when she not only escapes... but also not alone..

The plot: perfection
The characters: perfection
The book: Perfection...

If you read my other reviews.... you can come up for air now.... ;)

T for Traitor, L for Love

I truly did not think that Kathleen could out do what she has done. One would think with how many books have been released, something was bound to get boring. Then, Hooyah!!! Yep, she inserted a sexy SEAL who gave better that what he received and accepted his equal with open arms. Betrayal, death, embarrassment, introduction, training, and support. It was a remedy that left you laughing, crying, and wanting more.

This story was addictive in a way that had you wishing for the bond and love that may never be outdone. Ultimate son-in-law versus daughter versus dad/ uncle equals one accepted froggy.

Just gets better!!

I don’t know how she does it but these stories just keep getting better and better. Miles had been favorite Davies brother so I couldn’t wait to see how things would go when it was his turn to watch his daughter fall in love. This story didn’t disappoint and walker is everything you know he needs to be to win Layne and earn acceptance from Miles.

I can’t possible day enough good things about those story and the whole series. Kathleen Brooks has built a town that as a reader you have come to love and want to be a part of and looked forward to reading each new installment.

One of my favorite books of the serie. Although all Kathleen Brooke’s female characters are smart, ass-kicking women, I liked that Laine acted as he protector in this book as opposed to the pray (as is the case in a lot of the other books).

As always, good plot and storyline. The intrigue will have you hooked from the very beginning. After, oh...15 books or so about Keeneston, you can’t help but be head over heels in love with the entire setting. The characters are hilarious and lovable.

Kathleen Brooke manages to make you laugh, cry, hold your breath in anticipation...all the markings of a great series.

Aww Kathleen you have out done it with this one. Layne and Walker's story was everything that you can put into a book. Action, adventure, love, passion, fun, serious, shocking, it's like I'm there living this with the characters.

Two peas in a pod. This book is beautifully written, the journey that they go through and the best scene at the end (no spoilers) in the middle of the fight when Walker approaches Layne I think I cried. (And I'm a tough nut to crack) LOL.

The books just keep getting better and better. Can't wait for more. I love the reactions and banter between the men. Absolutely hilarious. Keep up the fab work Kathleen.

Siblings Reunited

Walker & Layne a story of danger, finding love, family & Siblings Reunited Kathleen has wove together another gr8 story featuring my all time favorite small town with Heart Keeneston, Kentucky. This is another must read for all Kathleen Brooks fans. The only downside was I missed the usual dose of the Rose Sisters in this story but the good outweighed the bad plenty more story lines with HEA of Keeneston siblings also a possible spin-off of the Faulkners of Shadows Landing, SC. Another gr8 book a 5 star rating for KB

And boy, it did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed reading every word of the book.
It is an awesome romance suspense story about Layne & Walker. They met while is was he on the run, & his best friend introduced him the Layne. Walker is a
Navy Seal, injured on the last "mission".
Layne works with injured military, helping with their recovery. Their chemistry is undeniable. It was great to catch up with everyone in Keeneston.

Another great book that takes us back to Keeneston, KY. Kathleen Brooks has given us another exciting and humorous packed story with all the gang at the Blossom Café that will keep you turning the page... You will laugh, you will cry and you will cheer for the good guys who come into save the day to rid the town of another who is trying to take out one of their own, or one who has just become one of the town's favourites.

Of course we now have to anticipate who is the next on the Matchmaking Mama's list and will we find out who the "panty dropper" is......

A quick read - read it in an afternoon - and definitely had some fun with the interactions between the different characters. (This is the first book in this series that I read, so the huge cast of characters for a little confusing, but most of them had such uniqueness that I remembered them.)

I'm not a fan of instalust or instaluv, and Layne is basically a badass version of a MarySue, but it was fluffy fun with military highlights and a heroine who can kill you with a spoon and beat up anybody - a a hero who likes her just that way, which was one of his best qualities.

She has done it again!!!

I so love these books! It is so nice to pick up a book and feel as if you are coming home. The characters are so life like. The plot is one that keeps you guessing. The emotions felt by the characters are so real to life. While we know these books are works of fiction, we can easily imagine spending an afternoon with any of the bunch! Keep the books coming! And I’m so glad we are finding relatives in other towns, because what would we do when everyone has found his or her happily ever after. GREAT JOB!!!

Kathleen Brooks' books are wonderfully entertaining and a great way to escape from the pressures of life. I always feel so happy when I've finished one of her books. I have read them all and will go back to reread stories. There is so much emotion, laugh out loud dialogue, and excitement. I reread this one because the characters here were important in her latest book. The crossover between her series are great fun as you get to see so many of the characters you know and meet new ones. I can't say enough good things about her books.

This book is just about my favorite one so far. It is funny, exciting and romantic! My daughter (8 yrs) had a snow day today and is home playing video games. (yeah mom of the year I know). Well, she started fussing at me because I would just burst out laughing (guffawing really) and scaring her so badly she kept getting killed. LOL She finally put down the controller and went to play barbies until I finished the book. lol This series is pure magic! I can not wait for the next one!!

Another home run for Ms. Brooks and her series!!!! With an action packed punch and an estranged family reunited.... This visit to Keeneston has it all. Not to offer spoilers, but you definitely need to read this book! If you have not read anything from this author.... It is wise to start at the beginning and really immerse yourself in the small town charm of crepe wielding grannies, smoking hot alpha men and strong women. 5+ stars!!!

Kathleen Brooks has done it again. Forever Devoted is a terrific addition to her Forever Bluegrass series. This book is about Layne Davies and the man who isn’t cowed by her father, Miles. A rescue attempt that went terribly wrong, a traitor, a kidnapping, a misguided flirtation, macho man contests, her trademark humor, and, of course, the Roses sisters all make this book a non-stop page-turner. Add in a cute little dog who apparently can melt the hardest of hearts and you have a winner.

Wow, could it be any other way, Layne as definitely Miles Davies daughter. She was tough, lethal and Badass women. She never met a man that was not afraid of her father. Until she Met Walker Private Petty Officer of the Navy. A bad mission left him nearly dead, Dr Layne Davies, helped him recover and hide since he was presumed dead. Great suspense, funny as usual with The Who Keeneston town. Meeting more of Grandma Marcie Family. Awesome story... can’t wait for Reagan story.
