Reşat Ekrem Koçu (1905-1975) is a Turkish historian and writer mostly known for his work "İstanbul Ansiklopedisi".He was born in İstanbul. After completing his high school education in Koçu Bursa Erkek Lisesi, he studied history at İstanbul University, where he later on functioned as a researcher. After 1933, he assumed duties teaching history at Kuleli, Pertevniyal and Vefa high schools. He also published various poems, stories and novels during his teaching years.
Orhan Pamuk acknowledges this literary person as a source of his inspirations during childhood years, devoting a whole section to Koçu in his work Istanbul: Memories of a City.His best known work is the "İstanbul Ansiklopedisi"; an encyclopedia where he describes the city of İstanbul in many different aspects, often resorting to stories related to Ottoman times. He could not complete this work though, being interrupted due to financial problems at 11th volume.

His other works include "Forsa Halil" (1962), "Patrona Halil" (1967), "Erkek Kızlar" (1962), "Haşmetli Yosmalar" (1962), "Türk Giyim, Kuşam ve Süsleme Sözlüğü" (1967), "Osmanlı Padişahları" (1960) and "Eski İstanbul’da Meyhaneler ve Meyhane Köçekleri" (1947).
