Golden #2

Locked

Rate this book
When the girl with the golden hair is betrayed, no one has hope of surviving.
The stories say that Goldilocks ran away, but being forced over the wall and separated from the man she cares for was hardly her choice.

Now, uncertain if any of her friends survived the brutal attack, Auluria must work with her former handler, Shadoe, and raise a new army to invade the Society and take back that which is hers: Dov Baer, his family, their friends, and their freedom.
She’s willing to do whatever it takes, but this time, it’s not her deception that will cause everyone in her world to burn.

Allegiances are changing, and at any moment, anyone in her world could destroy her.

There are times when sequels tend to fall flat when they are compared to the first book, but this is definitely not one of those times. In the second installment of the Golden trilogy we learn new secrets about out favorite characters and watch as the action unfolds. There were so many moments where I held my breath as I read what awaited the characters, and other times where I felt like crying with joy at a few adorable scenes.

When you read a book by K.M. Robinson, you never know what surprise awaits on the other side of the page - both good and bad (but mostly good, if you like having your heart torn apart and then glued back together. You know, the usual).

Auluria, Dov and the rest of the cast left me holding my breath in the last installment. This book kept me on the edge of my seat as more of the story of "Goldilocks" unfolded. So when I picked up this sequel I was wondering if we would stall a little or... hit the ground running and we hit the ground running, most definitely.

There was no time to spare, not when Auluria is focusing on not only raising an army to take on the opposition but also to rescue her beloved Dov Baer, too. That is... if it isn't too late. There is no promising if all is well or if he is still even alive.

While there is an onslaught of new characters they add some more depth to the story, the pace is fairly even throughout the entire book and instead of a cliffhanger, we're left wondering... Was all that took place enough, will it ever be enough?

Imaginative, engaging and adventurous, Locked is an action-packed retelling.

A dystopian mix of intrigue, rebellion and romance.
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters. I think a story is good when you really hate the bad guy!
An easy and enjoyable read.

This was a fantastic follow-up in the Golden series. I really enjoyed meeting some of the new characters, like Necesta, Devin, Justin and Talley. They all add to the story and help Auluria along the way. Auluria grows as a character as well. In the first book she is more of a follower but in this book she really comes into her own as a leader. She brings ideas to the table on how to bring down the Society and how to get her people back from them. These books are all more realistic then the fairytales I grew up with. There are consequences for the characters actions. If you enjoyed the first book and the novella, you definitely need to read this follow-up. We even find out how she came to be known as Goldilocks.

KM Robinson has pulled at my heartstrings again. Aluria has made it over the wall but now she needs to figure how she wants to live her life. I don’t know what I would do if I were separated from my one true love but I think it would be something to what Aluria did. Now I really need to start Edge.
