This book had a unique feature that the main character is a post-apocalyptic fiction author, so had thought about a lot of different scenarios and how to adjust. I like that there was a small group, each with a significant skill to survive that recognized what was going to happen and worked together to marshal resources and get organized. I didn't have too much trouble with a mob boss taking a lead role since I always felt like groups that would hit the ground running in a real PA situation were cartels, organized crime and gangs. They already have a strong hierarchy and sense of purpose. It will be interesting to see if the coalition holds up. This was a very short book so it is hard to get a lot of character growth. The strength of the plot is undercut a bit by writing issues. This badly needs an editor and the dialogue tends to be very wooden and staccato in its flow.

Good Story, pretty bad writing.

Having read a few of A J Newman’s other books, I knew that he was a competent writer: very good with a story, but I knew nothing of Mack Norman. The story line on this book was really good, too, and great fun. However, I had to copy edit as I read! It was so full of grammar mistakes, homonyms, typos, subject/verb agreement errors and the like that I could barely read the thing. The only reason that I gave it three stars instead of one is because it WAS so entertaining. If you have a Kindle Unlimited account and can bear the assault for a couple of hours of giggles and a free read, have fun. Otherwise, don’t bother.

Here's my summary.....

I absolutely love AJ Newman's books. I can't say I have read all of them yet, but I am making progress thanks to you listing them at the end of your books. I love the action, the plot lines, and your editing is tight - I only found about four errors.... Anyway, keep up the great work - keep on writing (fast), lol..... I read pretty fast, but I am gonna try out some of Cliff's books when I run out of yours - again, thank you for the lists of books at the end of yours..... Keep up the most excellent work!!!! You absolutely ROCK!!!!!

Post apocalyptic action with a twist. This book is about a mixture of criminals, crooked cops, and a sci Fi writer who band together to survive an EMP attack. Why just survive is their motto as it becomes a Sopranos and the good guy kind of story. I can see romance blooming between two of the characters if they don't kill each other's. All of the great PA action with a mob twist. Great book for a first time author.

Rogues indeed

So we have an unlikely assortment of people trying to survive the apocalypse. I like that the author explained how we retaliated after being attacked. It will be interesting to see how these diverse people work together.

This story is a good read, I'm looking forward to the next one

This story was a good read, it was very realistic . I could see something like what happened in the story really happening.

Excellent, but it's just too short.

I liked the oddball group of characters after I got used to them.Good thing this is a series because the story is just starting. It's midnight, but I'll still be reading for hours yet.

Didn't really care for the characters much especially a mob boss becoming community dictator. Don't plan to read the other books.
