Awwwww, this little surprise by LA Cotton made me grin no end when I heard about it. Getting back to a series that has gotten so far under my skin was such a comfort. I never want it to end!
Ana and Jackson are awaiting the arrival of their daughters arrival but with Braiden still in their lives, Anna feels beyond cautious of what the future holds. Of Braiden's past and what he did to her, and whether she could ever forgive him...
Excerpt:
But something had changed. It was like the more Jackson let him into our lives, the more I closed down. Maybe it was my motherly instinct kicking in. But something felt ... wrong. Like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop or for the storm to arrive.
Jackson undoubtedly, still wanted Braiden in his life. He was family, and despite everything, at times holds things from Anna. It was a ticking time bomb that was bound to explode on them all at some point...
Excerpt:
Maybe a guy with a track record like mine was never supposed to live out a quiet life. I’d been afforded redemption once, but maybe I’d be forever paying penance.
Braiden wanted nothing more than acceptance and a life like Anna and Jacksons. Could he have that with Cara?
Excerpt:
she didn’t like me around, and I couldn’t blame her. What I’d done to her—to Jackson—back in Chastity Falls was inexcusable. But I hoped that one day she’d be able to forgive—even if she never forgot.
This short novella, ticked so many boxes for me. Seeing Anna and Jackson grow into a family, but the usual elements of fear and danger, secrets and victory, with help along the way from those who helped them in the past. But with the women in their lives in danger, could Jackson and Braiden ever get the quiet and happy life they both wishes or would their past always have a hold over them?
Excerpt:
What I’d done to him and Ana back in Chastity Falls was unforgivable, but Jackson’s loyalty was unwavering. Maybe it shouldn’t have been.
I don't know what I expected from this novella, but it was twists and turns, and for me, almost perfect. I guess I wanted more from Braiden and Anna? I wanted to see some kind of alliance by the end. Some kind of forgiveness. But all in all, a fantastic read, and an essential read for those who love the Chastity Falls series.
