Ready to dive back in?

You only think you are.

Whereas Disowned was a sweet-talking mild-mannered introduction to the Allegiance series, Dissemble strides through the door of the tavern, half-doors swinging wide, spurs glistening, and a devilish tilt to its cowboy hat--ready to take on the world.

Prepared? In your dreams.

This novel knows what its talking about, and isn't afraid to tell you the story. Come what may.

The pacing is a lot faster here, the characters developed and ready to spring off the page and--please excuse the cliche--the plot thickens.

The things we love continue, Celeste with her damaged naivety, Mick with his brash, but well-meaning temperament, the beautiful, loving family back home...oh yes, *back* home.

We aren't in Texas (Etra) anymore, kids. We are in the thick of things; Kyraenea.

What I loved:
World-building greatly expanded on.
Torrance (need I say more)
Spies! Undercover!
INTRIGUE

What I didn't love:
.... Nothing to see here folks, please move right along.

Notes:
This is a fantasy novel written from the perspective of a Christian. That doesn't mean it shies away from what is real, what is out there. It means that the author sees these things, acknowledges there is darkness in the world, and then shows you the light. Guides you to what is good and true.

It's Christian fiction done right.

You can't hide in the light, not in this world. You need to go out, out into the darkness, and FIGHT IT.

Sarah Addison-Fox is doing that. She's doing it well.

Read this novel if you dare, but I'm warning you: You'll have to read the rest of the series too.

P.S. I honestly have no idea where all the Cowboy/Western references came from. I probably had way too much caffeine today. I apologize for nothing.

Such a fun story filled with intrigue, romance, and several scenes that had me chuckling.

I am extremely invested in all of these characters. Somehow I ship all of them. I don't know who is my favorite character anymore, though my least favorite is probably Maggie. I don't know, I just didn't like her saying that her daughter couldn't learn sword fighting while her son could.

The story was filled with twists and turns, at some points I didn't fully understand what the characters were doing or why, but on a whole this story was extremely interesting and kept me on my toes. There was one point in this book where I actually said, "I did not see that one coming!" out loud. My sister laughed at me.

I loved the way this book ended. *sigh* and frankly I'm terrified to see where this series will go...

Many thanks to the author for the copy which she provided. I received a complimentary copy of this novel. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

~ I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review ~

Dissemble takes the world that we were introduced to in Disowned and builds upon it in a realistic and familiar way. We’re reintroduced to Celeste and Mick, as well as the rest of the Haynes family, plus a whole new cast of characters that add brand-new intrigue to the storyline.

Along the way Celeste is forced to confront her past, and her relationship with a certain *cough* corporal blossoms. Honestly, this was a book that I found hard to put down! There was always a new “loop” opening to keep me going. We also get in Mick’s head a little more with this one, (which I loved), and watch some serious character development happen. In the beginning he’ll do anything he can to keep the one he loves safe, but by the end he realizes that he can’t. He’s only human. The best he can do is face life by her side—together.

Maggie doesn’t perform as large a role as she did in Disowned, but she’s still the same lovable mother figure. Ditto with Ethan as a father figure, but Sadie and Joe get a little more “screen time,” especially Sadie. She’s just learning to step out and stand up for herself, and her good-intentioned attempts to befriend a lonely new girl were heart-warming (even when the girl rebuffed her efforts and hurt our precious Sadie’s feelings)! We also get to learn more about Sir Lewis, which was awesome. He was introduced as an important character in Disowned, so I liked getting to know him a little better in this one.

And the new characters! Amaya is a tail-kicking strong female character that still has feelings (#yasss), and Torrance is someone that went through several evolutions in my mind as his many layers were revealed. Plus, there’s a twist at the end concerning him that took me totally by surprise!

The reason I docked a star from Dissemble despite the fact that all the characters were life-like and unique, and the writing seemed even more streamlined and impactful than in Disowned, was because there was quite a bit of mature content involving sexual innuendo. Now, a most of it was pretty understandable from a plot standpoint, because Celeste came out of a really awful situation, and most of the book takes place in her homeland, but it was still a little rough to read. That, and a very light smattering of language and some drinking is the reason I gave it four stars.

But—that said, everything else about Dissemble expanded and improved upon the world introduced in Disowned, and I’m looking forward to the third installment in the Allegiance series, and seeing how Etra works in the characters’ lives next.

I was excited to get reading Dissemble after finishing the first book in this series! It's an exciting new fantasy world with some great characters, lots of action, romance, and a faith thread.

Dissemble was pretty fast-paced and definitely kept me reading once I got started. I was happy to see more of Mitch, Celeste, Ethan, and the rest. And also explore the lives and backstories of some newer characters. Overall, this book was a great adventure - though it got a little gritty.

I look forward to finishing the series! Wish Book Three was out already! *grins*

3.5 stars!
-- Writing: The writing was easy-reading and flowed smoothly, a steadiness from book one into book two. Fantastic!
-- Setting: The description was often clear (especially with the slums. It felt a Doctor Who episode!) and the locations were cool.
-- Story/Plot: OK. Here's where I had some issues, and some slight spoilers, so I'll tread lightly. In short, a big motivation is one I just am tired of seeing in fiction. Yeah, I know, it fits. It can be good. I'm not condemning it. But from personal experience, it is a concept that's showed so much, and it gets frustrating. It was frustrating in this book because Celeste isn't (usually) arrogant of the love from the Haynes family... yet, she goes through so much trouble to go off and try to find 'him'... Just something I find kind of dull. Besides that, the plot was good (I saw most twists coming) and fast paced! Very cool.
-- Characters: The characters continued to be vivid in this book! The Haynes family is great. Mick is epic though I wished we had more Asher. ;) And the new good characters were well done, as well. Here's my flaw -- Celeste. She got very frustrating in this book. Actually, a lot of the characters did. It was a ton of drama and I felt like plenty of it could have been avoided if someone had used some logic. Aye, yeah, people make mistakes. But I was constantly annoyed by things, and by Celeste's moodiness. Which I totally get, plenty of times, but I didn't understand her lack of trust towards Mick so much, even given her past/circumstances/etc. Again, it felt out of place.
-- Overall: Like the first book, I read it in one sitting. ;) I look forward to the third book.

What an awesome sequel! I got to delve even deeper into characters I'm already attached to, from Disowned. But then I also got to meet and become attached to some new characters - like Torrance Kyle, who annoyed me to no end at first but grew on me, and Amaya, who is SUPER COOL, let's face it. XD

The story is fast-paced, which I appreciated! Every scene was a game-changer and kept me endlessly turning pages.

A few of my favorite things:

- Ethan and Maggie, the amazing parent figures <3 <3

- Celeste is still wonderful and I'm still rooting for her with every fiber of my being.

- Mick, you are so charming, but this is getting frustrating. XD

- reeeaaallllly liked the allegorical aspect of it

- such a complex antagonist. Just... yes!!

- OH, RITA, YOU POOR THING. MY HEART.

-

I can't WAIT to read Dissociate!

4.5 Stars! =D

Special thanks to the author who gave me a copy in exchange for a review. The author did not pay me for a review and all the thoughts here are my own honest opinion.

The first book was more on the peaceful side as it built up the plot for this book. And this book, wow. Everything is brought up a few more notches. There's spies, and action, and this bad guy that was interesting, to say the least. Everything was like really tense.

And Torrance! I just loved him! So, I was unsure about him for like three seconds or something, but then I was like, okay, there has to be something more going on here. Somehow he was able to make me laugh at times, and then be totally serious the next minute. When it comes to people's lives, he doesn't play games, and I admire him for that.

Mick.... You need to plan things a little more before you go off running into a situation you know nothing about. It made sense why he did what he did, and frankly it made the outcome turn out better, I just thought a little more planning could've been beneficial. But, honestly? Mick doing this really showed his personality and his love for Celeste, and it just made me love him so much more. And what Mick did at the battle lines.... I just want to give him a hug. It was hurtful for him, but he made a decision that was still terrible to hear but better than the alternative. Mick, you're literary a hero!

Celeste! What you were about to do was, umm, a little shocking.... Especially because of your past. Seriously though, that scene of what she was going to do with that disgusting man was a little too much for me, I did not like it one bit. Though I was happy how much she wanted to keep the Haynes family safe and together. And the skills she learned.... Man, she does make a pretty good spy if you asked me, she learns fast.

Sandi, why Maggie didn't want you to learn the skills of swords is beyond me. Sandi was a natural! I love this little girl's kind heart, how she would go to someone else to make them feel welcome, and even to be kind to someone who previously hurt her. That takes guts. She just has this heart that makes everyone feel at ease. I wasn't sure about her crush with Jude, I mean she is so young, like only ten.

Amaya.... Umm, I liked Torrance a little more than her. But learning more about her, I see why she is the way she is.

Smyth.... How did he even get in office? He makes a wonderful bad guy. That's all I will say.

And where did Asher go!!! I missed him so much in this story, I wished he had more of a role, he would have been great!!!

Now the main reason why I removed a 0.5 star from my rating is because of the content. I loved how we get to see the culture of Kyraenean. Like the hot food was great. The slaves were just sad. But the stuff that I really had a hard time reading was the prostitutes. It never really explained anything with sexual scenes, thank goodness. Actually, there wasn't any scenes like that anywhere in this book. Mostly it just implied what has been going on in Kyraenean. There were also a few scenes of Celeste and Torrance kissing that I didn't like, and what Celeste was supposed to do with a man.

Content in Book:

1. Houses for prostitutes.

2. Prostitutes. Implied content but nonsexual.

3. Violence. (Killing a man with a gun, mentions of blood, implied violence of threats to kill people. With guns. With knives. War related. Hand-to-hand combat.)

4. Slaves. And young kids being disowned by their parents and sold into slavery.

5. Mentions of worshiping other gods.

6. Mentions of a war.

7. Tattoos and a mark to brand a slave on their arm.

8. Smoking.

9. Alcohol.

10. Abuse. (hitting a child, and other implied abuse.)

11. Some mentions of injuries, including gunshot injuries and knife stabs.

Who Would I Recommend This Book To:

Those who love dystopians. Those who like strong stories about families. Those who like books about spies.

Will I Read The Next Book:

Of course!!!! I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!! Actually I have already read and LOVED Dissociate and I should have a review up for it within the next ten minutes.

This book was even better then book 1 and so was amazing!! The chracters, plot, everything made me keep flipping pages.

Okay can we all agree that Mick is just a sweet, sometimes violent, cinnamon roll that we need to protect with all our might. *sighs* He is so sweet and innocent and is cute with his lack knowledge when it comes to romance. XD

We also can agree that Smyth is annoying and needs to go away. My blood was boiling anytime I read in his perspective. He is so wicked and evil. *shudders*

One last thing about characters, as much as I really disliked Torrance and Amara in the beginning. The grew on me, especially after I found out the plot twist about them. They are just too cute.

The plot in the book was so excited and made my heart pound with adrenaline.

Also that ending had me in fangirl heaven!!!!

I highly recommend this book because it is amazing and gah! Y'all just need to read it for yourself!!!

I wanted to like this book. I really did. So many people have said good things about it. But... it wasn't what I was hoping it would be.

The Good:
-The cover, like the one for book 1, is simply beautiful.
-Amaya. Though I really liked Amaya. She's a strong character.
-Sadie and Joe were wonderful as always.

The parts I didn't like:
-I found it very hard to connect with the characters or relate to them on an emotional level.
-There were sections here and there that felt clunky in the way they were written... usually, I don't mind overlooking things like that, but it was inconsistent and distracted me from the story.
-Topics like human trafficking are important things that I think need to be addressed in fiction. However, there were parts of this book that left me feeling... dirty. There was nothing explicit exactly, it was just... yeah.
-A man pretended to be married to another young woman who was not his wife, kissing her and such. At first against her will. It made me very uncomfortable.
-The faith part of this "clean Christian fantasy" was much less than I had hoped it would be.
-There was less Maggie! She was one of my favorite characters in the first book.

First thing I have to say: This series is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorites. Seriously.

series playlist: https://open.spotify.com/user/mylittl...

This book. was so good. the reason I haven't written this review before now is because I didn't know how to word it. I'm not entirely sure that I know how to now.

What is it about this book that catapulted it up on my favorites list?
Maybe it's the characters. Maybe it's Celeste, who is trying to protect a family that has chosen her when she didn't believe she could be chosen, or Mick, who is haunted by horrors he didn't deserve, or Torrance, whose coarse words hide a melted heart, or Amaya, who carries a secret that is burden and joy in one.
Or maybe it's the world. Or maybe it's the plot. Or maybe it's the message.
It could be any of those things.

All I know is that this series has come to mean something special to me. I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I think about it, I didn't want this one to end, and I can't wait for the next one.

Five shining stars from me.

This book is great, okay? Just read it—that is what I am tempted to just leave my review at because it would sum it all up. However, you might not be convinced you have to drop everything to read it yet, so I’ll do my best to persuade you. I’ve had the honor of first handedly seeing this book grow into the book that it is now since its first draft, and it is incredible to see the finished result.

Dissemble, book two of the Allegiance series by Sarah Addison-Fox, picks up plot-wise just after the ending of the previous book Disowned. But the setting is very different as the war between Etraea and Kyraenea has completely changed the dynamics in Macetown toward Celeste, a former Kyraenean slave, and the Haynes family who have taken her under wing.

Mick is faced with memories from fighting at the front line, and little Sadie and Jude are facing bullies taunting Celeste and calling their older brother a coward. As always, Celeste seems to find herself caught up in events that play a far larger role than she could ever imagine. Do read the back blurb; it sets up the conflicts beautifully.

I was fangirling with a friend tonight about this book, and she was in anguish because she had to leave the book in an especially suspenseful moment. A lot is going on within a short time, and the author barely gives her characters (or readers) a moment to recover sometimes in between. This is a book you won’t want to set down.

There are two main spotlights in this book, although both are connected—one following Celeste and the other focusing on the conflict in Macetown revolving around the Haynes family life and the corrupted Intelligence Agency of a certain Charles Smyth. I loved seeing both sides. Sarah Addison-Fox is exceptional in realistically depicting interactions and relationships among her characters in a way that really makes the reader be able to relate with the characters in such a cool way. In just a few short words sometimes within a scene, a whole new level to a character would be revealed and causing my jaw to drop. It’s still hanging.

So, if you love Christian fantasy and like reading books that demand to be read in one sitting, then do read this one. I’d recommend it for at least 15+ because of certain topics in the book and the action, but the writing of the book in no way glorifies evil and is written from a Christian worldview.

Loved that beach ending! No spoilers, but finally!!!

This is the second book in the series (read the first book first!) and has amusing banter, spy-action, sweet romance, evil villains and some great plot-twists. And even an intact loving family where the wife listens to her husband and respects him (you don’t read that much these days).

Torrance injected a bit of welcome humor into the plot. I liked the way I was uncertain about him at the start but then he grew on me. He did deserve to be punched though! Mick was a very nice contrast to him. Amaya also added some fun edginess to the story.

I also really liked the following quotes on anger:

“There is a purpose for your anger”
“Etra gave us emotions for a reason”
“Don’t let your anger guide you. Try to think before you act”

And also this on the slums Celeste sees:

This wasn’t poverty; this was contempt for human life. The people living here were discarded as if they were no better than animals. Forced to fight for food like dogs, with no clean water, and surrounded by filth.

This is a well-written, well-paced, clean, non-magical fantasy with a romantic core. In many ways it felt like this book had a real ending, so I am curious about where this series will head next.

This book. . .

If you were like me and left wondering what on earth was going on in book 1, you will be very pleased to know that this book is better, bigger and more exciting in every way!

My favorite part about this book by far was the action! There was so much! And as a fan of action/adventure, this book really fit the bill and had me on the edge of my seat numerous times. This book really brought back a love of reading for me. I was so intrigued and the book never lost my interest.

Characters were great and excited me! Torrance. . . Amaya, the secondary characters that were added this book were so deep and intriguing.

Did I mention I loved the action? :D Huge thumbs up from me!

This was brilliant.
When I read the first book to this series, I liked it but wasn't hooked.

This book hooked me.

The first book of this series pales as just an introduction to the characters and to the world when put beside this book. Dissemble is an action-packed, suspenseful adventure, and I enjoyed every minute of the ride.

I'm looking forward to the next book!

In this action-packed second book in the Allegiance series, Sarah Addison-Fox packs a wallop of heart-tugging characters and heart-pounding action. Both the characters and the author find their stride and footing in this book. If the worldbuilding was good in the first book, but perhaps lacked a tiny bit of clarity, it was crystal clear and stark in this book. If the plot took a bit to ramp up its tension in the first book, this book marched along with a tightly woven plot. In the last book, the line between good and evil, bad guy and good guy was drawn rather distinctly along the river boundary between one country and another. In this book, the boundary isn't as stark as characters learn that evil resides even within their own borders and their greatest enemy might be the one they had trusted.

This is a raw book. Celeste is pushed into doing and saying things against her conscience, and this book clearly shows the toll a life of spying and going undercover can take on a person. While the topics are dealt with very well and without unnecessary details, this isn't a book for young readers. It wasn't written to be. It was written for a mature readership. In some ways, this book is even cleaner than the first, with places Mick used "bloody" in the first book changed to "ruddy" for this one, a change that kept Mick's attitude and manner of speaking the same while making the language in the book less shocking for some.

The faith element was even more subtle in this one than the last one. It is still present, even in the places when it isn't explicitly stated. Celeste faces many people who seek to make her a slave once again, either literally or figuratively by objectifying her and using her. While she begins to find freedom in love instead of objectification, I can't wait to see where her journey will take her in the next two books of this series!

(Originally reviewed on my book blog: https://thepagedreamer.wordpress.com/...)

Ten Thoughts on Dissemble

1. Well, well! That was intense! O_O I enjoyed book one (Disowned), but this sequel takes things to a totally new level. While the first one was a bit more of a quiet adventure (though still with its spots of action/peril) and I really liked that, book two has a whole other feel to it, with stakes raised, and gets more serious with lots of stuff going on. Meep! I was flipping pages there, let me tell you...

2. Dissemble is much grittier, and deals with tougher subjects. We’re also now in the thick of things, behind enemy lines in Kyraenea, with spying and intelligence agencies and double-crossing, and all that exciting stuff. XD Much action and suspense, with a thriller-like dash of agents, etc. Also, while it’s “Kingdom Adventure” in a made-up world (with no fantasy elements), it’s getting a more modern “feel” due to some more sophisticated weapons etc. because of the war, so that made an interesting upgrade.

3. CHARACTERS! I’m almost annoyed at Torrance for stealing top-favorite spot from Mick. Because I still love Mick! They’re both great (and especially fun when they interact. *grin, grin*). But Torrance, yes, is kind of fabulous eventually. *cough* I still like Celeste—she goes through a lot in this book, poor thing! (I was really surprised by liking Amaya too!) I really, really like our main characters, and I’m so attached to them and their journeys! I can’t wait to read more. I especially loved when they all interact—some great dynamics there, which were the best-written parts, in my opinion, and really leapt off the page. :) BUT MICK AND TORRANCE AND EVERYBODY. MY PRECIOUS FRIENDS. *hugs them*

4. There are two EXTREMELY ADORABLE romances in this book. No names, but let’s just say that the continuing one from book one is so sweet (but just talk to each other, already, you two!), and the unexpected other one is UTTERLY PRECIOUS. Awk. There is so much cuteness going on in between the action and peril. XD

5. There were Twists. *evil cackle* Two in particular, which I sort of saw coming but really liked. And I was just really surprised at some of the characters and how they turned out, and I love it! It kept me guessing, but also turned out way better than I thought, especially one or two things I was very much on the edge of my seat about. I was nearly cheering “YESSSS!” near the end a couple times. :D I’m just sitting here feeling happy. ^_^ (I do need the next book though. AHEM.) Basically, the plot is exciting and keeps you on your toes!

6. Not sure how realistic it was or not, but some of the characters who’ve spent all their lives being suspicious of other people, when confronted with the Haynes family, realize “Oh, these are good people!” with such surprise, and it’s kind of precious. XD It was neat getting scenes about them and other characters back home in Etraea, while Celeste and co. were off having adventures.

7. I was so sucked in to the setting/world. It was incredibly vivid, and I saw everything so clearly as I read. What a talent! Oh, and I loved the scene on the beach! So beautiful and sweet! :) (How about that AWESOME, GORGEOUS cover? I love it! ^_^) And for some reason I really loved the bits at the safe-house place hidden in the trees. :)

8. (TORRANCE THOUGH)

9. Content: While this is a Young Adult, Christian book, some readers might like to be aware that if it was a movie it would probably be rated PG-13 for a little mild language/drinking, some inappropriate implications, and action-thriller-type violence. Despite this, and dealing with some other darker themes, the book did have an overall uplifting sort of feel to it, and there was goodness to counteract the villains, as well as the last chapter ending on a quite hopeful note.

10. Overall, mostly, I loved it! I’ve really enjoyed both books in these series so far, and I’ve gotten incredibly fond/attached to CERTAIN PEOPLE, and just give me book three already, please and thank you. *grabby hands*

Notes: I received a free e-ARC of this book from the author (thanks!) and voluntarily reviewed it. These opinions are my own.

I was very excited to read the second book in the Allegiance Series by budding novelist, Sarah Addison-Fox. Book One surprised me with its unique nature, how the author combined a YA themed novel with family values, and book two followed in the same venue but with some new twists of its own.

What I liked: Book Two is just as fast paced and endearing as book one, but it is a harsher tale. The heroine, a former slave, finds herself in new and more dangerous circumstances as she finds herself moving from one form of slavery to another when she is forced to become a spy. War is blooming on the horizon and the stakes have risen.

The family values are still there. I think the author should write an entire series for MG readers about the kids in this book. I think she would be very successful with it. I love how the story alternates between the hero and heroine as well as with Mick's family and the kids, following their own unique plot line and struggles. It was a very refreshing change but the typical YA novel.

What I would have liked to see different: I personally prefer my books without swearing, but the usage in this book was kept to a minimum and the author was careful to use "milder" swear words which I appreciated. There was also some more kissing in this book, which does not bother me because it was not at all explicit, but it irked my romantic sensibilities that the poor heroine was kissing the WRONG dude. I can't say any more (Spoilers), but this complaint stems mostly from my inability to be patient and wait for the happy ending resolution than from anything the author should have done differently LOL. I can't help it: I love a good romance and happy ending. And Ms. Addison-Fox delivers just that, even as she leaves us breathlessly waiting for more.

Ms. Addison-Fox is off to a great start trying to make her mark in the Indie world with her unique style of combining endearing family values and compelling action. I look forward to watching her grow as she continues to develop her craft.

Content: I rate this book for Adults, for mild swearing, kissing and tasteful violence. There is one scene of attempted assault which may be difficult for some readers.

Eeeekkkk so good!!!! I love the returning characters and the new ones we got to meet, the spying element of this story was amazing, and I personally love that we get to see through so many different POV's. It's something that can drive me crazy, but the author does a fantastic job making the transitions smooth and not leaving me wondering whose head I'm in.

Like I said in my review of the first book in this series, these are books for young adults and contain more mature content, so if that type of thing makes you uncomfortable, no worries! This just isn't the best book for you right now. :)

Can't wait to continue with series!!!

I couldn't finish this because of an uncomfortable drinking scene. Maybe I'll try to come back to this one day. :)

The twist about Torrance and Smyth near the end took this from 3.5 stars to four stars. I loooove Torrance and Amaya.

This story surprised me in numerous ways! You see a lot more of everyone's real colors and there is even more of a higher edge of danger then before.

I knew going in that this story had more "grit" then the first book, which I was fine with, but I didn't expect for things to be so intense! :o :o :o I don't mean that in a bad way, but things really take off from where things ended in book one. Celeste gets no break and admired her for fighting to stay brave and protect the family she loves.

Now I totally admit that at first, I really liked this one side character because he was cocky, arrogant, and reminded me of a favorite character of mine from an anime. However, it definitely grew into a I-can't-stand-your-guts there for a little while, but it did evolve into smiles and a happy sigh. ;) Really loved how he grew in this story and another second character alongside him that I really really REALLY want to read more of in book three. <3

Mick has some swoon worthy status going on now and I'm so excited for that! The ending was so very good and just was awesome. Loved loved loved it!

I'm nervously excited to see where things go next! It's a change in pace from book one, but in a good way, and would recommend this series to readers who are looking for a clean Christian YA, but with deep themes.

Wow! This book was amazing! After finishing the first book, I was really curious about what was going to happen to all the characters. I was NOT disappointed. :D The pace of the story picks up in this book and there is more action. The suspense kept me reading but oh, the plot twists! Totally didn't see those coming, and I'm still not over it (and I probably won't be for awhile). This book greatly exceeded my expectations. :)

AHHHHHHHH

I need to hug all these characters.

I got to see a lot more world-building played out here and finally, a fantasy world that has people excited to go to the beach!! Celeste and Mick are precious and I love them both, Rita needs alllllll the hugs, and I really really *really* love Maggie.

I'm looking forward to finishing the series and at the same time, I'm not!

Oh my goodness gracious... that was so beautiful. *tears flow* What a perfect ending... now I can't wait for book three!!

The description and story line were even more intense and wonderful then the last book ( and when the series gets better and better why I just want to keep reading!! ). I had only one slight problem with this book, but I was able to brush past it. So overall a marvellous read!!

Description : Was beautiful. I could imagine the scenes perfectly - and that waterfall scene at the end... *sighs dreamly* - especially the blood scenes... *cough* which was slightly disgusting.

My problem : The intimacy was a little much for me at times, but mainly the talk about Cesele having to do that "thing" with the Kyrainen old man. Yuck... at least it never happened, only mentions of it. ( I could also say the blood bothered me, but it wasn't as big of a deal. )

Characters : SO AMAZING!! And she added more this time although I am sad that Asher wasn't mentioned very much. But onto talk about the characters.

Cesele : As beautiful as ever. I became closer to her then the last book and her family problems are so heartbreaking! I like the fact that she became "warrior" like or a spy. That was cool.

Mick : Ever the warrior. He definitely grew on me and I was happy he could share his feelings with Cesele! ;)

Rita : I cried when I learned of her situation. So sad.

Joe : Yes, such a nice kid. He also grew on me!!

Sadie : She became an apprentice warrior!!? How cool. Yep I definitely love Sadie more then ever now!

Torrance : I didn't like him, at first. But once I learned he was married and Smyth was his father I liked him. He is such a trickster though... so spy like!

Amaya : Definitely a warrior / spy that I can appreciate. She stuck out to me the most from all the characters.... I don't know why.

Wonderful story! I enjoyed it very much and I can't wait for book 3!!

Note : I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to the author for allowing me to have this chance.

Really really enjoyed this book! I read most of it in one sitting, although granted most of that was going "What the heck is Mick going to do now? Bless his great big stupid heart." XD But in all honesty, he's adorable.

Celeste continues to struggle and grow. After the whirlwind aftermath of book 1's ending, we see her becoming an agent and sent off on her first, rather dubious, mission. But she starts to get stronger, mentally and physically and I loved seeing that change start.

AND LET'S TALK ABOUT TORRANCE. He's quickly turning into a highly fascinating character. As is Amaya. I didn't like her at first, but like Torrance, there's so much hidden beneath the surface. All four of them are going to be great friends, I know it.

The plot - fast paced, filled with action, and holy cow a major twist I didn't see coming and I LOVED.

Fun, punchy follow up to a great book, with a promise of another book packed full of action, adorable romance, and wonderfully flawed characters, all with a very subtle underlying theme of faith and trust. Loved it!

i liked this book more towards the end. the beginning, for some reason, really threw me off. maybe bc i was expecting Dissemble to be similar to other Christian fantasies, but the scenes with Torrance & Celeste

towards the end, however, i started liking the book much more. Disowned is still my favorite, so far, but i'm excited to read the next two books. ;)

Great book,talented story line

It took me a little while to get into the story.once I did, however it was exciting. I've specially like the strong female characters even if they had been slaves. I am anxious to find out what happens to Mitch and Celeste in the second book.
