When his older brother walked out on his girlfriend, Bella, on the worst night of her life, Edward was there to pick up the pieces. Jasper breezed back into town after being missing for three years to find his family had reformed around the hole he left behind.
It was labeled Edward/Bella, but it was a Jasper focused story where he’s recovering from alcoholism and repairing his relationship with his younger brother after abandoning his pregnant girlfriend Bella in the hospital after a car accident.
I felt Jasper’s struggle with his addiction and finding out he left behind his girlfriend and a child he thought had died, but too much was sculpted to make it easy for him when he came back. Edward was painted as the bad younger brother for not stepping aside and allowing him to be in his daughter’s life. It should have been a harder journey where Edward’s feelings were considered as well, instead his wife and parents working around him. This hardens Edward’s stance and then he has this great revelation and drops his resistance. That soured me on the whole story. The ending didn’t feel earned.
