No power, no water, no emergency services, and hundreds dying by the day. This is Georgie Fitz’s reality when an EMP bomb goes off over her home in Denver, Colorado. As one of the few who knows how to survive the start of an apocalypse, she sets out with her boyfriend to escape the city. After all, the darkness of the Rockies is safer than the violence in the streets.
Alexandria Clarke is a writer, cat lover, and all-around optimist. She loves to immerse her readers in mystery and intrigue, meaningful friendships, and the worlds of characters who learn by doing. When she's not writing, Alex enjoys playing guitar, watching Wynonna Earp, and spending time with her family. She currently lives in Orlando, Florida with her partner and their four pets.
Another prepper type book, I keep going back and forth between these and true crimeok book has kept me interested enough to continue on with the series
This writer is one who captures you with the first sentence and keeps you in her trip to the very end. I love this story and am ready to read the next book. I recommend this to reader's who enjoy strong characters fighting to survive an end of the world 🌎 apocalypse!
I love the main character in this story. She really has her stuff together. This is really good for her fiance and his family, because they definitely do not. Georgie and her friend Nita are the ones who have to pull this group through. I can't wait to start the next book in this series.
Everyday life descends into a EMP-powered post-apocalyptic world. Or would the beginning days of that new world be considered the apocalypse? No matter... what is important is how chock full this book is of powerful and well- developed female characters. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.
This first of the series ended up being better than I thought. I like the strong female lead. There is a lot of mystery about her past and it was also interesting as she tried to convince her friends that the event was serious. The bickering between Georgie and Jacob was kind of wearing but I do think that might have been the point.
My favorite line, when Jacob was singing American Pie:
“In the streets, the children scream, the lovers cried, and the poets dreamed,” he crooned, putting down the metal grill tongs to take my hands in his. “But not a word was spoken. The church bells were all broken.” Somewhere down below, a cry rang out, but Jacob sang on.
Georgie seems to have some psychological problems, but in a newly post-apocalyptic world, I really don't see her getting the help she needs to get over her upbringing. On the other hand, she has a gun. On the third hand, so do a lot of other people....
It kept my attention for a day, but I don't foresee continuing to read the series, particularly as this is a "Book 0"
Oh my goodness! This is a roller coaster of a book! Georgie makes for a strong yet empathic heroine who can be tough while shaking on the inside. This has me looking for a cabin in the woods for myself. Do yourself a favor though, get all the books in the series because you will definitely want to jump into the next book and will be biting your nails if you have to wait to get it delivered.
There are times in this story where the same arguments are repeated too often. Your readers aren’t stupid. They can remember details and don’t need to be reminded every other page. I highlighted some yammering that should be deleted. Hiring an editor would have been a great idea.
Enjoyed the book which is laying the groundwork for the most enormous adventure of a lifetime. Interesting characters with whom I would not like to be stuck.
Pretty good read. I questioned some overly convenient situations but I resolved that they were needed to keep the story going. I've read a lot of books this year but this is in the top 5
This book kept me on the edge of my seat. The things Georgie learned when she lived with her father hopefully will keep her and her friends safe. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
An EMP, dysfunctional families, secrets kept from each other and conflict between two people engaged to each other provide plenty of turmoil in a contentious group headed for safety away from a big city. What happens next will be revealed in Book One. Let’s go.
Good book on post apocalyptic world. Strong woman lead character. Listened on audible and it is a very short listen. 5 hours. (for reference, most books on audible are 8-12 hours)
This is a three part series. I liked the first book alot, because I'm also a big fan of the Walking Dead and this was similar. The rest of the series was good, but at times a bit predictable.
This is not a complete story. It dangles the reader who had gotten interested in the adventure after power loss I can not recommend the partial, incomplete story.
