The Enraged - The Outbreak: A Shay Donovan Post-Apocalyptic Thriller

Rate this book
What would you do if your world was suddenly thrown into chaos? Surrounded by death and destruction, would you be able to adapt and survive? This thrilling new novel tells the story of a soccer mom turned soldier. Shay Donovan is separated from her family during an outbreak where millions of infected humans become ENRAGED, destroying in their path and killing anyone they see. Shay finds herself in a brutal fight for her life in a desperate attempt to find her husband and two young daughters. This novel, is much different than other zombie stories. Shay is an average American house wife, finds herself alone during an outbreak where those who are infected become ENRAGED. Different from the zombies in The Walking Dead (TWD), these zombies can run, jump and climb. Shay is saved from certain death by a stranger and joins a group of survivors, L.A. to the mountains where they think they'll be safe. But, they can't run and they can't hide as hoards of flesh eaters hunt down the remaining survivors. Petrified of guns and violence Shay is forced to step out of her comfort zone as she desperately searches for her family realizing that if she doesn't kill the zombies, the zombies will kill her. Shay finds herself in a world of kill or be killed and if she's going to survive, she must become a killer. The novel also tells the story of Shay's husband, JT, a normal guy and his friend Porter who is a Navy SEAL as they attempt to escape the zombies with three little girls. Because these zombies can run, the men are forced to fight the flesh eaters as they seek to find refuge before winter sets in. The zombies aren't the only enemy as other humans and Mother Nature herself make several attempts at their lives as the world literally crumbles around them. The novel moves quickly and you will wonder if the zombies will ever stop coming. When you open this dystopian zombie apocalypse novel, you will fall right in as the world of The Enraged will become a world you live in too and you'll began to wonder if you'll ever escape. This is a series of novels that is destined to become an New York Times Best Sell and definitely a Top Selling Novel in the zombie - Walking Dead genre. What the Judges at the Draft to Dream competition in Denver, CO. said about this novel. “Your story had me hooked from beginning to end. It was a pleasure to read.” “I had a difficult time putting this down, and I wouldn’t normally read anything this gory.” “Your story wastes no time getting to the point, raising the stakes, and launching the plot forward.” “The Plot is engaging and the characters well-developed.” “The story was engaging and well-written.” “The narrative painted a vivid picture of the Ragers while creating tension around the storyline.”

What a treat this is! This is a really engaging book that has great characters. I found them really relatable and well rounded and complex. Shay is such a great character and the book is written really well. It really made me think about what I would do in the same circumstances. Absolutely recommend this.

I was given a free copy of this book.

Kinda maddening and silly

I have read numerous books dealing with zombies and end of civilization scenarios and one thing I find in common is the ridiculous bickering and fighting among those who are trying to survive. I fully understand that there will be power struggles and bickering to some degree at some time, but it seems the author can't wait to introduce them into the mix. Most of the time it seems much to soon.
Also the main Protagonist, Shay, seems especially slow in understanding the gravity of the situation. She seems reckless and careless about the group's safety, and is so single minded in her quest to be reunited with her family that it seems likely that she will be killed long before she finds them. It kinda irritates me as I read.
In another incident, her husband and children were at a safe location when someone came to their site after being infected. He was trying to warn them, but was told repeatedly to shut up. After he turned Zombie on them, they packed up and left their site. They came across many folks who had made it up to the mountains in escape; who were obviously not camping due to the fact that they had no gear or supplies. But they did not ask any of those people, "Hey! what's going on"? They proceeded to drive on until they came upon a lone zombie and decided to ask him for the latest news.
"Hey, let's not talk to all these folks about why they've come here in droves, even though they all seem to be here for the same reason. But let's ask this bloody, shambling, shell of a guy; he looks like a straight shooter.
You see, this what I'm talking about; the characters are a little stupid.

I had requested and received audiobook version of this book for free from the narrator / author / publisher, in exchange for an unbiased review.

I love zombie stories and when a book claims that it is not like the endless others, I hope it to be true. Yes, this book is not like The Walking Dead. But it is somewhat like World War Z, as far as zombie characteristics go. And another thing that differentiates this book from other zombie books is - underwhelming characters. The lead character is quite unimaginable in a zombie scenario. She has unbelievable reactions to typical life-n-death events. Other supporting characters aren't quite fleshed out. And hence they didn't quite interest me.

The narration by Richard Rieman and Madeline Mrozek was the plus point of this audiobook. They delivered a very good performance and kept me interested enough to finish the book.

Ok so WOW on so many levels! A "zombie" novel where they zombies play a backseat. Filled with character development and drama the zombies are relevant but...the story happening around the outbreak is the star.
And speaking of stars...Thank you Ty Wilde for giving us the heroine that every mom assumes/hopes to be... in the off chance of a zombie apocolypse. Shay is on a mission to save her family and God help anything that stands in her way!
So many awesome and inspiring characters, as well as those you want to reach into the book and throttle, and the scary and daring situations they find themselves in keep this book moving at a fast, exciting pace. Not a boring moment to be had so strap in for the ride.
Now on to some target practice as I wait for the next book...juuuust in case

Great

This is a very exciting story. It shows a pretty realistic picture of how people react to major breakdowns in society. It is a very scary scenario.
