In Faerie, magical power means everything. Keeping it means finding the key.
After barely escaping with my life, returning to Faerie is the last thing I want to do. But my mission has grown only stronger now that I’ve sworn to save more held trapped in that realm. If only I know about their fate, then I'm sure as hell going to save them. Even if it means returning to hell.
The upside is I now know where Julia is being kept. The downside is she’s being used as bait by the High Mage. Meanwhile, the Seelie are losing their stranglehold on magical power as the realm destabilizes around them. Which only makes them more dangerous in their quest to regain immortality. There’s both fighting in the streets and search parties on the hunt. I soon learn those men are hunting for me. My only hope is taking refuge with more of the hunted, the rebel faction plotting to take back magical power. They need me and I need them. But there’s another who needs me too, the intoxicating fae lord who hasn't forgotten what passed between us. It may be that his power over me proves too hard to resist. But how can I know if he wants me for who I am, or because of the magic that may lay hidden within me? Because if I’m the one foretold in the prophecies, I may hold the fate of three realms in my hands.
J.S. Malcom is the USA Today Bestselling author of the Realm Watchers urban fantasy series, of which Autumn Winters is just the beginning. J.S. lives in Richmond, Virginia, a town full of history and ghosts (not to mention, many other supernatural creatures, including Autumn and Cassie).
Really am loving this series and it's characters but I'm not going to lie, I didn't love that ending. Thankfully it looks like the author decided to continue the series with a book four so hopefully it will have a better conclusion by the time it is done.
Cassie is wonderful. She's been through so much in her life, but she never lets that stop her from doing what is right and saving people who need her help. I don't know what's going go happen in Faerie now, but I do hope that Cassie and Esras find a way to be together. If the legend holds true then Cassie actually has a direct claim to the throne through Galen the Seelie King. What better way to reunite the faces than to have her marry Esras. I simply refuse to have it another way. They have something super special and Cassie deserves some happiness with someone who appreciates and supports her. Listen, J.S. Malcolm, MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
That was a fantastic book for Cassie's series. There are so many cool and unique concepts here that I don't think I could list them all in the space allowed. Cassie is such a great character and gets into more trouble than anyone I've ever seen, I can't wait to see what she does next. There are some really heart stopping moments in this book where I actually wondered not if Cassie would make it out but how she would make it out without some major damage. The best part is that everything comes together and get wrapped up neatly at the end, which considering all the balls that Cassie was juggling is pretty amazing. Such a great series, and author, I can't recommend them high enough. Go! Read this series! Read anything you can get your hands on by this author!!
2.75 stars. Writing was fine, I like the world, but the ending felt rushed and anticlimactic. It wasn't as anticlimactic as the novel version of Stardust, which still makes me go, "wait, what, that's it?", but the solution just felt handed to our heroine on a silver platter ad the romance...well, I kinda expected an HEA since it seems like the series was wrapping up, and I'm not even sure she really got a HFN. But the epilogue picks things back up and there was a suggestion for continued growth with Esras and Cassie, so I'm willing to keep reading and just view this as a transition book from story arc 1 to arc 2.

At first, I really loved this series but this third book has just been very disappointing. For one thing, the main plot is very obvious to the reader but the characters still feign ignorance of it. Then there are several subplots that make no sense. The group rides out to a village for no discernible reason other than to visit and it does not further the story. During their travel, they are captured by a group of centaurs and something magical happens that should be very significant to the story, but it’s not discussed by the group after they are released. They head back to the city after their visit and that’s when I stopped reading.
Warning spoiler alert! Read at risk of getting dazed and confused. Great story with a gorgeous guy, a powerful independent chick, dragons, witches, pixies, fairies, humans, secret agencies and taking down the powers that be...or were. But what is up with that ending? Of course there will be another adventure, got it. This isn't a cliffhanger it's just a dud. Turns out only one bloodline controls the power but they walk away and mysteriously everything resolves itself? Hmm perhaps a better explanation that wasn't really fuzzy would have been better.
This series just keeps getting better and better. Cassie is such a strong and caring person. She just keeps growing and growing. The only problem I have with her is that she tends to hide things from people that can really help her. Yes, she has to have trust issues due to how much she has gone through but oth she an amazing character. I love the supporting characters as well. They bring so much to the story. It is extremely well written and the flow is amazing. This is definitely worth reading and to continue the series.
I don't even know where to start, this book was a wild roller-coaster ride of emotions and action! It starts off where book 2 left of and it just got better. I'm sad that Ezras & Cassie just didn't work, they had a beautiful connection but maybe their situation will change. Cassie is still a badas* and fair with everyone! I was happy that Vidain got what he deserved but that ending has me totally thinking something bad is about to happen! Can't wait to read the next book!!
In this third book of the series, veil witch (and so much more) Cassie returns to the very place she barely escaped alive from in book 2, Faerie. She’s going back determined to rescue her friends, and nothing is going to stop her. It’s a wild trip and a total pleasure to read.
I was thinking of giving the series 4stars mainly due to the plot. Unfortunatley an inept “heroin” tends to annoy with her stumbling about and while realm hopping ends up getting shit-faced when she supposedly knows what the stakes are. She should take learning her craft a little more serious.
The last Galen blood-line should be playing more of role now.
I love Cassie, delight in Cade and the world they encompass. Cassie finally fulfills what she is meant to do and we get answers on what she is. I loved the Faerie realm and all of the characters within. There was really no romance so that was the only downside for me but it still loved the story. I look forward to Cassie’s next adventure!
Cassie returns to Faerie, only to discover the magic is unstable, the rebels are getting ready to attack and her kidnapped friend is being held at the palace. It takes a bunch of ragtag rebels, Cassie's discoveries about herself and pure gumption to overcome the adversities and come into her own. Its a fun read, takes you right into the realm along with them.
I just loved this story and the way the author wrapped up all the loose ends. This author is a Pleasure to read because writes stories so well. I highly recommend you read book 1 first so you get the Whole story. I Highly Recommend this Author and These Stories!!
Didn't even finish this series. Don't know why I bought the 3rd one in all honesty, I wasn't really happy about the 2nd but thought I'd give the 3rd a chance. Kind of wish I never did because didn't even get half way through when I was too mind numbingly bored to continue. This is a very very...very slow series. Hardly any action, mainly always planning and talking.
I am so glad I decided to restart this series. I’d started reading it a few years ago when it first came out but somewhere along the way I stopped reading for some reason. I’m in love with the characters and the world building and the twists. There’s some steam but no spice. It’s really a very good series rusty I can’t seem to put down.
I really enjoyed this series was action all the time . I loved the magic and loved the ending . Well written with a lot of magic going on , elves , dragons, unseelie , and much more.
I struggled with the first in this series at first. By the end I was intrigued enough to read the second and then the third. Each one got better and I have really enjoyed reading them. Good characters and nicely developed worlds with a decent plot.
Conquered all! This was my first experience with this author. I found all 3 of these books really good. So good I read straight thru 1 and 2. And would have 3 if I had not dozed off. I can’t stand rich who thing they are better.
I so enjoyed how this book ended. I did not see the power play happening. What I love most about Cassie is how big of a heart she has. She wants the best for everyone. I really want to see her with her prince one day!
Good addition to the series. I was mostly happy with how things wrapped up in Faerie. Wasn't keen that Cassie just took off back home after. It felt like it should have been the end of the series. The next installment sounds like it goes off in an entirely different direction. We shall see!
Another great installment. much more occurs in the fae realm, meeting new characters and creatures, adventures with the resistance and some romance. Some things are concluded (probably) but as ever the book ends on a cliff hanger
it's not high art but it is entertaining and well written escapism literature. i'm enjoying the series as something to relax to while hubby is watching sports...
