TEACH SECONDARY AWARDS FINALIST Currently teachers don't receive the training or induction they need to make their school an LGBT+ inclusive environment. This can be seen by the fact that half of schools do not teach anything regarding LGBT+, and only 3% include LGBT+ content in two or more subjects. This book will help transform your school into a safe and inclusive place for all students. Written with Educate & Celebrate!, an Ofsted and DFE recognised 'Best Practice Award Programme', this book gives teachers, governors and other staff the knowledge, strategies and confidence they need to implement a curriculum that is inclusive for all. Covering the changes to law, including the Equality Act 2010 which requires actively promoting acceptance, what language to use, case studies and much more, it is a must have guide for all schools.
This book should be available, and a mandatory read for every school. The main message from this book is schools need confidence in order to make their schools as inclusive as possible. Without educating yourself on LGBTQ+ topics, you will not be confident in delivering the most inclusive experience for students, staff, and parents. Educators need to work in more examples of LGBTQ+ role models in their lessons plans. As well as this, opening the floor for discussions to understand different family dynamics/ gender identities / sexual orientations you may even have in the classroom. This book was really motivating for me to work hard to become a better teacher for when I start my training next year!
A really informative and continually useful resource for implementing positive changes to improving awareness around LGBTQ+ issues, and diversity more broadly speaking. I hope this will support educational staff and schools in being able to make educational environments a safe place for everyone.
A vital resource for teachers and other school staff with lots of practical advice for making your school a truly inclusive place where kids can learn comfortably and safely.
