Crossing Lines

What if you're beating all the odds...but then you're not?Carter McMillan was no typical high school senior. She's hasn't been to a party...ever. She doesn't date. She barely talks to anyone, let alone have any friends, and that's the way she likes it. Her plan is to keep her head down, graduate, and never look back. Until Noah Sweeney came along.

Noah Sweeney is a rule-follower. He's the good guy, despite the dark storms that swirl in the depths of his even darker eyes. He's never struggled to know what is right and what is wrong. He's also painfully aware of how much is riding on this one job. He can't afford to mess up. He knows that nothing will get in the way of him excelling in his new position. Or at least he thought. Then Carter came along.

This debut novel by Colby Millsaps shows there really is no right or wrong to true love as alternating perspectives take readers through all the twists, turns, ups, and downs of an unlikely but undeniable connection. This book will show that sometimes, true love can't conquer all. Sometimes, bad things happen and we're powerless to change them. All we can hope for is to love and be loved in return.

This was breathtaking!!! I did not see that ending coming. I just finished and I still have tears in my eyes, it was just... wow!!

"She was like a wounded body part. She was a part of me. I knew I should have just cut her off, but I couldn't handle the thought of losing her. There was no turning back now. I should have realized it the moment I met her."

Noah is a 23-year-old that just got the opportunity to teach English as a substitute professor. This is his chance to get a better life for him and to be able to get the one thing he wants the most. However, this chance becomes harder each time as he gets more and more attached to one of his students, Carter. They've met before the classes started and their connection made it hard to ignore each other after the shocking realization that he was her teacher.

Carter is a girl that lived, for the past 3 years, in a shell. After a tragical moment that she was told to keep a secret, she struggles to live with that decision and with herself. After that moment, she creates thousand of walls around her, keeping mostly everyone at arms-length, except her friend Sam and new friend Nate. And, even then, she doesn't fully let herself be free of guilt and just live. She is barely living, just existing. Until she meets someone that can change everything about her, crashing her walls and bringing her back to life.

The relationship between Noah and Carter was everything but easy. They were entangled in a forbidden relationship, the student-teacher relationship but it was so much more than that. They had so much history of their own that it made their words, actions, and feelings so much deeper and profound, it made them raw and inexperienced with the love they were feeling. However, there was always that feeling that they were crossing a line and everything could be put in jeopardy because of their love.

This was the author's debut novel and she just gained another fan. It was amazing to see these characters develop and to see what would happen to them.
The ending was one of the things most readers talked about, because it was so unexpected but, for me, it was understandable. It was completely heartbreaking as I still had hopes that everything would turn out okay but I found myself crying my eyes out at the end and I still can't stop the tears as I remember the book.
Anyway, it was an amazing read, one of the deeper books I've read so far. It had so much raw sentiment and it really touched me. I completely recommend this book to everyone.

Make sure you have a new box of tissues next to you.

Ok this is a very deep book. I'm having a very hard time trying to express how I feel. I'm crying and smiling. No maybe a little more crying. This book will make you happy and rip your heart in tiny pieces. Then you will remember the funny things and you will smile.

I don‘t know what to say about this book except that I hated it.

I suffered through the whole thing and how was I rewarded? Not all because the heroine ducking dies! Why do authors think this is a good ending for a romance novel?

On top of a main character dying the hero broke it off a day before and was a total dick to her.

The ending left so many questions unanswered. Do you remember from school when you had to write like a 3 page essay and you wrote those three pages and just kinda stopped after fulfilling the required amount of pages? The ending in this book was just like that.

I also couldn’t connect with the characters. Everyone was so freaking selfish and unlikeable.

Books like this are the WORST!

Let me start by saying I am rarely motivated to write a book review.. I usually leave stars and move onto the next one…

So here it is….

I hate to DNF a book, so I STRUGGLED thorough this book only for the heroine to DIE yes, that’s correct, she freakin DIED at the end…

We do not see her parents at ALL the entire book.. then there’s a sad eulogy at the end from them… also the hero breaks up with her the day before she dies… her bff gets in a fight with her… another character she loves leaves right before she dies…. The author truly hated this character 😅

I will need days to recover. I hope this insane review accurately represents the insanity and instability of this author/book.
I will never read another Colby millsaps book ✌️

I loved this book! I don't want to give too much away but there was a twist that I wasn't expecting which made the ending my least favorite part of the book however, I see the reason behind it. The first 80% of the book I seriously loved though. I even tried looking up the author to see what other books she has, there aren't any. I got a similar feeling to reading Nicholas Sparks books, and I had a fair share of tears while reading. Regardless, it is still one of my favorite books and I'd highly recommend it. The characters are very likable and their chemistry is unimaginable.

Honestly, not what I was expecting at all and I loved it. I felt the love between the couple from both perspectives. I was hooked the whole time wanting things to end well for Noah and Carter and little Keaton. Especially with the foreshadowing I was dying to know the fate of a couple I had felt so closely with, but the ending was not expected. I am crying. He loved her though and even without the words spoken, she knew it too.

At first I wasn’t sure about this book. I struggled with it. Two broken people. Student teacher romance. It just wasn’t my thing but I pushed through! I fell in love with Carter and Noah and the ending blew me away!

Emotional- 5 Stars!

Wow! I finished the book and... wow! I didnt expect that to happen. It got to a certain point when I was read then I just started crying. Crying reading. Crying sobbing. Crying because you could feel the love. I know life's not fair but why? Why did it have to end like that. But in all it was perfect for this specific ending. Heartbroken and raw. It's cheesy but who gets that love. Books are amazing and set standrads very high.

Wow! Just wow!

The cover drew me in. I opened the pok not thinking I would I would enjoy the book every much. Man, how wrong I was. This is suppose to be a forbidden romance, and it was in a way but it written so well it never feels like the characters love should be forbidden. Ending shocked me!!!

It’s a good thing I wasn’t wearing eye makeup!

I went into this book expecting a sweet & sexy romance book.

That’s is not what this is! The blurb makes you think it has a HEA. It’s does not!
It’s an ending that will have you bawling and taking breaks cause you can’t see your screen through the tears. This is in the top five saddest books I’ve ever read!

The story is so good and then that ending comes and punches you in the face.

The book is definitely worth reading....just know you’ll be crying at the end!
