The Baldoni Files #2.5

Chasing Liberty

Rate this book
Nate Brennan grew up the all-American country boy jock with dreams of a family, the white picket fence … hell, even the family dog. All that changed when tragedy struck and threw Nate’s plans off-track, forcing him to walk away from his dream and start over ...
Now a medical examiner in Detroit, he spends his days surrounded by death and prefers it that way. Wearing his new identity like armor, Nick hides behind it to prevent anyone from getting too close. All that changes when he meets a country girl that rekindles memories of his past.
Liberty ran fast and far from the one-horse town she grew up in, without so much as a goodbye. Finding herself locked in the arms of temptation and succumbing to the worst decisions of her life, she sees no other alternative than to do what she does best ... run.
When Nate and Liberty's paths collide, their impending futures come barreling down on them both. Will the pair have the strength to fight their demons together, or will fear-hardened hearts force them apart?

I really liked reading more about Nate. Heather brings more of romantic side to this book but it's still full of all the things that the other two Baldoni files books have; crime and murder. We finally get to read and get to know more about Nate and his story. Really liked how we got multiple points of view. Can't wait to read what Heather writes next.

Loved it!

This wrapped up everything really well. I'm not sure if there is plans for more or not. There isn't really any loose ends, other than the boys women problems. I do have to say I LOVED that the UP was mentioned, alot. We tend to get forgotten up here. #YooperPride

Chasing Liberty
By Heather Mullins
Reviewed on behalf of 3 Degrees of Fiction Book Blog

Chasing Liberty is the first book that I have read by Heather Mullins and overall I liked it. I thought that the storyline was really good, I liked the characters I just found that the writing was a little inconsistent. It went from moments where I was left a little confused to times where I was completely captivated by it. For me the whole thing really came alive around ¼ of the way in up until then I was a little lost – now I’m not sure if that’s because I haven’t read any of the other books in the series which obviously provides the story of some of the other characters who get their own POV chapters. Reading some of these made me want to read the other books in the series too!
Character wise I really liked Nate! There was just something about him – I loved his alpha male, possessive side but there were also parts of his past that made him a little vulnerable. Liberty was quite a strong character too, she also had a past that caused her problems but she still had that feisty independent streak.
I think if you have read previous books in this series then you will really enjoy this, not to say that I didn’t enjoy it but I feel I would have benefited from reading them first.
I give Chasing Liberty 4 stars overall.

I really, really enjoyed this book. Fantastic characters, an engaging storyline, and overall great flow and writing. Now with that being said, I did find myself a bit lost at times throughout the book. Never for very long and nothing that was a huge detriment to the story. More than likely it's because this is the first book I've read by the author so I haven't read the other books in the series. So that's basically one major gripe, but that sounds more like a 'me' problem, doesn't it? Moving on.

I really liked Liberty. I love when a character is flawed and a little broken, but maintains their strength. Liberty was precisely that! She's a small town girl who's a force to be reckoned with. Her sass and no-nonsense attitude only made her better as a character and added another level of dynamic to her relationship with Nate. For his part Nate was just how I like my heroes: brooding, possessive, a little broken, and a lot alpha. He has a secret that he guards closely and has walls to keep people out, but that all changes because of Liberty. I loved their chemistry and the swoon enduring things that Nate would say to Liberty.

This was my first Heather Mullins' book, definitely won't be my last. It left me wanting to go back and read all the previous books in the series. A good story with great characters that I'd definitely recommend. 4 stars.

Heather Mullins never fails to drag you into the ever-evolving and interesting cases of Detroit's finest detectives and the people they work with. Nate Brennan is a Medical Examiner who has a secret, a sad, devasting secret, a secret that even the ones he calls friends don't know about. He meets Liberty, a small town country girl who immediately grabs his attention. She's witty, smart and doesn't take anyone's crap, and he finds himself willing to do whatever he can to keep her safe, even risk his own life.

Can Liberty breakthrough Nate's hard exterior to bandage the broken man who's hidden under his armor? Will they survive to see if what they have is worth the fight? I'm not telling :) You have to read it first. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Chasing Liberty is a smooth, fast-paced (not too fast) crime romance.

I finished this book a few days ago but have been putting off writing the review. I'm not sure exactly how to put my thoughts on Nick and Liberty's story down.
I have not read the previous books in the series so I don't share in the nostalgia for the many POV the book has. To me it just seemed like too much. Again this might just be be caused I did not read the others. From my understanding the book was supposed to be able to be read as a stand alone.
Several parts for me seemed to be missing important details. At 1 point I reread the same 2 pages 4xs because I could not understand how it took place and to be honest I could not find the detail at all.
The main story was overall good. Nick and Liberty have good chemistry and were great characters.
The cover is gorgeous and it by itself would have pulled me into this book. 3 stars overall.

I love the Baldoni Files series! Each book has had excitement, a little romance, and a little action and this one stayed true to the previous books. I don't recommend reading it as a stand alone, it's best to start at the beginning. And trust me, you'll want to because you may think you know what's coming but this author knows how to throw a surprise or two in the mix. I loved learning more about Nate in this book, and I'm hoping that there are more of the Baldoni Files to come because I want more of Nate, Angelo and Bobby!

Page Turner

Just as the previous three did, this book is the series is a page turner. Feeling like I should know the characters, I couldn't wait to know more. It's a suspenseful, heartfelt, steamy, love story between lovers, and best friends. I recommend you set time aside to fully indulge.
