Sabine Metzke is about to get caught in the downpour of Greenleaf's quirky citizens and well-preserved secrets. Sabine, along with her Australian Shepherd, moves from the suburbs of Houston and into her late great-aunt's house. A journalist at heart, she accepts the offer of taking her great-aunt's position as a staff writer for Dixie Day’s. The all things southern magazine. Before the first box is unpacked, Sabine becomes the object of the local welcoming committee of nosy citizens and their steady flow of casseroles. The Chamber of Commerce website left out a few...no a lot of details...about the lack of cultural events. The one glimmer of hope in this eccentric, bucolic town is her new-found friend - Mia Wallis. Together, they create their own style of entertainment and mischief that keeps the new Sheriff Investigator and Fire Chief on their toes. Sabine’s latest assignment with Dixie Days is to write a feature article about Greenleaf and Jaemore County’s history of moonshine. The attempt to interview Jaemore County’s local historian on moonshine, Edweener Bumpus, becomes more than a benign fact-finding mission, but launches Sabine into the middle of Greenleaf’s dirty laundry.
I received a copy of this book from Goodreads in exchange for a review.
A cozy mystery with great Southern flair, the zany characters of the little town of Greenleaf will worm their way into the reader’s heart. Greenleaf has all the charm of a small Georgia town and all the flavor of a plate of mustard greens and corn bread. You’ll laugh and slap your knee as you follow journalist Sabine Metzke and DCIF worker Mia Wallis. Sabine is trying to write an article about moonshine when she finds herself landing feet first into the drug problems of Jaemore County. Along the way she meets Detective Newt Johansson. This man is definitely easy on the eyes.
The book was enjoyable and fun to read. I look forward the future installments of the series.
I received this through the Goodreads Giveaway program.
Christy has a talent for writing a plot filled with humor and memorable characters.
Set in the 'country of Georgia in the southern United States' the author tracks a social worker, Mia, and her friend, Simone a journalist at a small town magazine, as they try to solve a convoluted case of drugs, deaths, abandoned children and nicknames!
You'll laugh through encounters with dogs, chickens, a deer stand, fire ants, a hot Swedish police man and a 'vertically challenged' fireman. Along with a funeral that will leave you with tears running down your face, and not necessarily from sorrow.
Sabine Metzke is ready for a change. When she inherits her great-aunt’s house she leaves the Houston area for the sleepy little town of Greenleaf, Georgia. Once there she discovers that beneath the southern charm of the town lie deep, dark secrets. Although the quirky citizens of the small town welcome her, they are protective of their secrets. All except for her new best friend, Mia Wallis. When Sabine’s assignment with the local magazine takes an odd turn she enlists Mia’s help. Together they face danger and unwittingly expose some of the town’s darkest secrets.
Christy Breedlove introduces you to some of the unique citizens of Greenleaf and leads you on an adventure that keeps you reading until the very end. With this being the first of the Dixie Days Series, we can’t wait for Ms Breedlove to introduce us to more adventures with Sabine.
I was gifted Christy Breedlove's second book for Christmas and although I was told I could read them out of order I just can't do that. The story line was unique and familiar in that it was based in a fictional town which happened to be a combo of the towns around my hometown. I loved the small town feel and all the characters as I could see them in my own life and town. However, there were several editing errors that were distracting, this is why I give the book 3 stars.
