Between cubits and shekels, talents and gerahs, I didn’t think I’d finish reading the Bible in a year—and I didn’t. It took me two years, and I’m okay with that. It wasn’t the genealogies that got me; it was the counting! By the time I got to Job, I thought, “Finally, a story!” Nope—Job had seven sons, three daughters, 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, and 500 donkeys. More counting.
Honestly, I don’t feel like I gained much or learned a lot from reading it. I wasn’t studying; I was just consuming. When I sit down with God’s Word to really understand it, it feels so much more meaningful. Anyway, Bible cover-to-cover? Check that off the list!
