I have been enjoying Amy Clipston's stories for many years and THE FORGOTTEN RECIPE is exactly why. The twists and turns in Veronica and Jason's lives pop up when you least expect them. Amy pulls you right in and makes you feel as if you are right there experiencing all the heart wrenching feelings that her characters are. When I hear that Amy Clipston has a new book coming out, I run to it. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite Amish authors and I devour her stories very quickly. I love how her stories allow me to escape my reality and puts me right in the middle of Amish country.

Well, I wanted to read a genre I hadn't before, but Amish romance is just like any Christian romance, just with a few Amish details sprinkled in here and there - pies, walking and taking buggies to see one another (no phones, no internet). I was disappointed the book didn't include a recipe since the raspberry pies are such a major plot element! I will have to do some research.

An easy read, a bit repetitive and obvious, but it is likely I am not the target audience.

This was a fun book to read. Several years ago I read the Kaufmann Bakery series Amy has out and loved it. I just knew I'd love this book and did. All is blooming roses with Veronica Fisher's life. She is engaged to Seth Lapp and she dreams of their life together. In an instant it's all gone though as a tragedy at work steals his life. Barely able to function she pays her respects at his funeral. Seth's best friend Jason Huyard is there to pay his respects too and sees Veronica. In her grief she doesn't even remember seeing Jason there. Veronica find an old hope chest in her attic that belonged to her mother and grandmother before that. As she looks through it she finds an old fashion raspberry pie recipe and it becomes an instant hit as she sells her pies to community members and Englishers alike at her bakery stand. Jason wants to offers his condolences to Veronica and does so when he goes to her stand and buys some pies for his mother. He leaves out telling her he knew Seth and worked with him and was there when he had his fatal accident. Veronica and Jason fall in love and it's healing for her and helps her get over Seth. Jason knows if her reveals the truth of knowing Seth she will no longer trust him and it will jeopardize their relationship. So how does the reveal go? I suggest you read this book to find out. This book was an excellent read my only complaint is that it ends in a cliff hanger which of course means they want you to buy the next book in the series to find out. For ending in a cliff hanger I deducted one star. I want the books I read to have all questions answered by the ending. Full of fun, kindness, faith, forgiveness and understanding you will want to read this book!

Awwwwwwwww! Jason was so sweet & like a little love-sick puppy. (The really cute kind with droopy ears. ;) ) My goodness, “The Forgotten Recipe” was a really sweet & clean read. Veronica’s emotions felt so real, I found myself tearing up at times! Another great novel by Amy Clipston---I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

I was really looking forward to reading this story because I have enjoyed many of Amy Clipston’s books in the past. What a pleasant surprise it was that this book ended up being even better than I expected.

Guy meets girl. Guy falls for girl. Girl might be falling for guy. Girl doesn’t know that guy not only knew her late fiance’ but was with him when he died. What could go wrong? With a premise like that you know there is going to be a great amount of tension, guilt, and confusion in this love story. And it was so well-written!

There were so many times that I wanted Jason to just push the words out that he needed to say. But his fear stopped him every time, making the omission of his connection to Veronica’s late fiance’ a bigger and bigger issue as time passed. Veronica was an emotional mess through many portions of the book and understandably so. She has suffered a horrible tragedy and things are really upside-down for her. But both she and Jason are very likable characters, so I didn’t ever feel frustration with the things that they were dealing with.

The author captured such deep feelings and emotions in The Forgotten Recipe and I think it is a book that Amish fiction fans are going to love.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Veronica Fisher is set to marry her best friend, Seth, until Seth dies in a tragic accident. Seth was also a good friend to Jason who worked with him. Jason blames himself for not being able to save Seth’s life. As Veronica grieves, she finds her grandmother’s recipes (in a plastic box, no less) in the attic in her mother’s hope chest. She sets about making raspberry pies to sell at her newly established bake stand. The author says the raspberries were not going to be picked otherwise (From the Amish families I have met, nothing ever goes to waste!). Jason starts frequenting her bake stand, almost stalking her.

They fall in love and finally, after about 200 pages, it comes out that Jason knew Seth and was there when he died. Veronica is more than angry about this and thinks Jason deliberately deceived her.

This is the first book in the Amish Heirloom series. I realize the Amish differ greatly from one area of the country to another, but these families had running water, showers, telephones, while still using horses and buggies. Both Jason and Veronica seemed to have a good deal of free time on their hands, and few obligations, even though they were in their early twenties.

I could not get enthused about this book. The writing was flat, as were the characters. How many times do we need to be told the same thing over and over? And how many German Amish words can we throw into the story?

The forgotten recipe is about a newly found old recipe that Veronica’s grandmother used to make. This recipe turns out to be a great hit with everyone, and is the catalyst to bringing the main two characters together.
Jason Huyard’s mother hears about this wonderful pie and wants her sons to get her some from a sweet Amish girl Veronica Fisher, and thus the story of a new relationship begins. Not an easy path, this is one that has a shared grief of loosing a future husband and a best friend. Both having nightmares of how they maybe could have saved Seth’s life, even though they both know that it was his time and God called him home.
The path is not going to be easy to place these two together, there is another girl who seems to be very interested in Jason. There are also some deep secrets that are being withheld and then some almost insurmountable times to have told the truth that seem to have been missed.
This is a quick and entertaining read, and you really won’t know until the end what will happen, and I felt I was left with a cliffhanger when another secret is partially revealed, but not all the answers.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zondervan, and was not required to give a positive review.

MY REVIEW
I have been enjoying Amy's books for years and this one isn't any different. Amy has written a heart wrenching story about two strangers, one loses the man she's going to marry, the other loses his best friend. She had me 'loudly' telling Jason to come on get it over with, then when he did, OH MY! Not only is this a wonderful story she leaves you hanging at the end of the book. I would recommend this as a must read so watch for it to be released on December 8, 2015.

I always enjoy reading books by Amy Clipston and she didn't disappoint me. The Forgotten Recipe is book one of the new series An Amish Heirloom Novel.

Veronica Fisher is a young Amish women preparing to marry her Bestfriend Seth Lapp. When a tragic accident ends Seth life, Veronica decides she will never love again to honor is life. When she meets Jason Huyard she is instantly attracted to him but tries to stay clear of him and her emotions.

Jason falls in love with Veronica even though he is keeping a huge secret from her. Seth was is bestfriend and he was there the day he died. Jason fears he will hurt Veronica even more and she will walk out his life if the truth is told.

I fell in love with Jason, Veronica and her sister Rachel. Amy always have vibrant characters who pull you in their lives and stories. The details and descriptions will draw you in. I've visited Lancaster County a few times so it's always nice to read a book based there.

I'm anxious to read book two from Rachel's view point and hopefully learn more about the secrets behind the Hope Chest that put everything in motion.

First reading:
I loved this book.
It was full of emotion, sadness, joy, worry, excitement and a happy ending.
I felt very connected with the characters' emotions in the end too.
I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

Second reading:
I still enjoyed reading this for a second time but my reading tastes and preferences have changed since so i didn't like it as much anymore.
It's a sweet love story, with themes of grief, hope and second chances.
You feel the pain the characters are going through and I like that about the way this book was written.
I may reread the rest of the series too so I'm curious to see what I think of them now.

Such a sweet story about a second chance at love. I haven't read much Amish fiction before, but I really enjoyed this. It was bittersweet yet really cute.

Veronica, the main character, is grieving the death of her fiancé Seth who has died in a tragic accident. Jason, a coworker of Veronica's fiancé wants to express his sympathy to her and ends up falling for her. There's also an overreaching arc storyline involving Veronica's mother's hope chest.

While I really enjoyed this, I had 2 complaints. One is plot related and the other is not.

1) plot related - the one thing I didn't like was that Seth has only been gone a couple of months before Veronica starts talking to Jason. I get that everyone goes through the grieving process differently, but she seemed to grieve for only a short period of time. While I'm sure her fiancé would want her to find love again, it just seemed to happen too quickly.

2) i wanted recipes! The book mentions all kinds of goodies like peanut butter cookies and sweet salsa and of course the delicious raspberry pie everyone raves about it - and there was no recipe included at the end! Oh my goodness - everything sounded so good that I wanted recipes and I know Amish books often have recipes at the back so I was upset this one didn't.

Overall a really good book and I look forward to continuing the series.

Veronica’s Amish fiancé Seth is killed in a fall at his job. His best friend, and witness to the fall, Jason goes to the wake and sees Veronica. He feels like he knows her due to everything Seth told him.
During her grief, Veronica goes into a chest in the attic and find a raspberry pie recipe. She started baking and selling the pies, as well as jams and salsa. Jason comes to her stand and they both are attracted to each-other and find a light at the end of their grief. Jason puts off telling her that Seth was his good friend until they were in love.
Veronica feels lied to and deceived and no longer wants to see Jason.
What happens then is a true love story and exercises in forgiveness.
It was a nice book to read in these troubles times but one thing was missing. The forgotten recipe! I was so hungry for raspberry pie through the entire book, but no recipe.
Kind of left me hanging.

This is my second Clipston novel but first Amish fiction read. I've been around Mennonite community so it's hard for me to tell what faction of Amish Clipston is angling from.

Veronica is grieving the sudden loss of her fiancé in a tragic accident. His best friend Jason feels responsible but yet cannot bring himself to tell her that he feels that way through the entire book.

Jason feels as if he knows her and cares for her because his friend shared many stories of her. He is way further down a "relationship" road than she is three months later when they surprisingly meet.

Family based and everyone seems to talk about problems except the two main characters. Little annoying that I wanted to yell "man-up". A lot of drawn out details that might not be needed, but then again this was my first Amish fiction novel.

Now just because I've gotten to know the sisters and there was a cliff hanger in the book, I'll check out the other volumes.

Food warms the heart and soul but is it enough to heal a broken heart and a shattered future?
Veronica has always loved cleaning but when she discovers her grandmother's recipes she discovers a joy of baking, something she hasn't felt since her beloved Seth's tragic accident.

Jason is struggling to come to grips with Seth's accident. He keeps blaming himself thinking "if only I hadn't" or "I should have". He knows it's the Lord's will of course, but he can't stop the guilt. He and Seth were friends and he should've been able to do....something. He wants to offer his condolences to Seth's Veronica but when he finally meets her he's literally rendered speechless!

The Forgotten Recipe is a warm tale of heartache and tragedy softened with unexpected friendships and love. Food really can and does bring people together. One would be surprised what a raspberry pie can do for a grieving fiance'. It gives her hope. Hope that she can survive this unimaginable gut wrenching heartache. Maybe, just maybe, all her dreams and her future didn't die right along with Seth. Hope that she can be content being single and selling pies at her bake stand.

This pie can also bring unexpected love to a guy who's trying to relieve his guilty conscious. Jason spends his time working and helping his parents. At night when he's alone he relives the accident and all the what if's. He and his brother are on an errand for their mother when they officially meet Veronica. Jason is so dumbstruck by her beauty that he stands there gaping. When he finally comes to his senses he tries to smooth over the situation by buying jams and jellies in addition to the pies his mom requested.

This book is so much more than your typical Amish love story. It's about family, friendships and love. It's about carrying on when you feel as though your world has fallen apart and trusting the Lord to put you back together. It's about food and how it warms the heart and soul. How it brings you together and helps you have those tough heart to hearts that every family must have. It's about friendships such as brothers who give heartfelt advice. Sisters, who hold you as you cry. Your mom who gives you one of her vases and flowers out of her garden to show the woman you love how much she means to you. Yes, the Forgotten Recipe is a love story but it is so much more!

I hope that you will give the Forgotten Recipe a try. Even if a love story isn't your typical read I think you will adore this book.

This book was set in a small Amish community in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The plot was well developed and the characters were likable. On the other hand, the heroine's determination to hang on to something/someone that was gone from her life, instead of embracing what was actually available to her was often very annoying. However, I have observed similar reactions in real life.

I listened to the audible book through Hoopla through our local library, with the narrator C. S. E Cooney. I was not impressed with the delivery. For one thing, there was no distinction made between male and female voices and another thing was that the pronunciation seemed off at times. I was distracted by the wording, too, which has more to do with the author.

I appreciate the clean and wholesome family life that the Amish books present. This family was very supportive, which is not always the case in Amish stories. The tie to the past that help shape the future was a nice touch.

I agreed totally with another viewer in that stated: "I gave this novel only an average rating because I felt there were some aspects of Amish culture (use of phones being one thing and dialect for another) that didn't seem to ring true. I also felt that some of the usages of Amish German were awkward and unnecessary. " Also, the conflict between H/H was too drawn out.

This book was able to stand on its own, it was a clean romance, and there was definitely a long sought after H.E.A.

I recently had an unexpected opportunity to visit Lancaster county in Pennsylvania and knew that I had to read this book while the vibe of the Amish community was still fresh in my mind. It completely enhanced my reading experience being able to acutely picture the setting. What really made the book stand out to me though was the high level of emotion in the characters and the author's skillful way of enabling me to connect with their feelings during the story. Victoria's grief was palpable and her realistic process of dealing with it. I loved the support of her parents and sisters, it gave the book a heartwarming foundation even though there is plenty of angst as Victoria and Jason navigate their way through the highs and lows of new love. The recipe for raspberry pie that Victoria unearths from a forgotten hope chest brings purpose to her days and happiness as she reconnects with the community. The wisdom she finds in an old letter her grandmother had written helps her find peace and understanding in a time of confusion. It was interesting to see Jason reach out to various family and friends in his trials, it showed how truly humble he was to seek the advice of those who could help. There is definitely a strong sense of family and community in this series.

As expected, Amy Clipston’s newest novel, The Forgotten Recipe, delivers a heartwarming Amish story about two individuals affected by one man’s death. Veronica and Jason both grieve the loss of Seth, and this common grief brings them together again and again at a bake stand. As their relationship develops, both characters must come to terms with their unexpected yet shared budding love and attraction and deal with the secrets and burdens holding them back. A great start to the Amish Heirloom series, The Forgotten Recipe is an engaging read and left me eager for more at the end. Any fan of Amish fiction will not want to miss this novel from Amy Clipston.

A promising start to what promises to be another fantastic series by Amy Clipston.

I was engaged from the moment I started reading this book with its wonderful storyline and endearing characters.

While grieving the loss of her fiancé Seth Lapp,Veronica Fisher finds an old trunk that belonged to her grandmother. She also found the recipe for what will bring her income and a second chance of happiness.

Jason Huyard is dealing with the loss of his dear friend, Seth Lapp.
His feeling of grief were written so vividly, I shared in his loss.

Brought together by tragedy Veronica and Joe have a second chance of love and happiness. Moving forward and letting go of someone you've lost is very difficult and that is what's holding this couple back.

In this book Amy Clipston is at her finest. It's apparent that she loved the characters as much as I did!
I'm looking forward to reading more in this series and I think that anyone that reads this book will feel the same way.

This is a definite 5 star book.

Amy Clipston has another great story. The Forgotten Recipe will make you long for more. Veronica's life has taken a turn she never expected. The loss of her fiance has her bound in grief and unable to move forward in life. Jason cannot help his fascination and attraction to Veronica. Has he messed up the way he has handled their budding relationship? The characters of this story are well written and thought out. I am looking forward to the next book of this new series. The recipes of this story were a blessed find that helped Veronica move forward. They were also the Amish Heirloom of the story. My favorite thing was learning why flat rocks were important in this story. I hope you too enjoy finding out the secret of the flat rock, as the story unfolds. 5 stars from this reviewer. I received this book for review as part of Amy Clipston's Bakery Bunch launch team. No payment was received for this review.

A great love story, but also a great lesson on the importance of telling the truth and being completely honest with one another! I love Amy Clipston's books, and the depth with which she writes, and this book was no exception. I found myself cheering for Jason and Veronica throughout the story. One thing that surprised me--and this surprises me in all of her books, as well as with a few other authors of Amish fiction that I've read--is how the families are so close and know one another's business, while other authors tend to portray the Amish as being very closed-up, and especially whehn it comes to courting. In this book, Veronica's sisters, and even her parents to some extent, were anything but closed-up or lacking in the knowledge of one another's personal business. that's not a bad thing necessarily, just something I've noticed. Of course, all Amish districts are different, so I suppose some are more open than others about the personal goings-on within their communities. Anyway, I'm digressing, but I loved this story, and I look forward to reading the others in this series!

While I enjoyed the story and really loved the hero, he did something totally dumb which caused him a great deal of unnecessary turmoil. This could have used a bit more character development. Happy reading!

I have read a great many of this authors works. I believe she has an uncanny ability to capture the community and their behavioral patterns. I believe it shows that she has done a great deal of research. I did pick up on a few areas however,in which I believe insight was considerably lacking. Many might even say I am nitpicking. those would be the Englishers that do not know the Amish Waze and conversations. Overall, love this author, will continue reading her books.

I am always excited upon hearing that a great author has begun a new series! Since Amy writes Amish fiction, one of my favorite genres, I knew I was in for a good read! "The Forgotten Recipe" is the first in the collection entitled, "Amish Heirloom ". Excitement reigned in our household upon finding this new book in my mailbox! I found myself totally engrossed in this tale as it allowed me to escape the real world for an entire day.

"After losing her fiance in a tragic accident , Veronica Fisher finds solace in the old recipes stored in her mother's hope chest- and in a special visitor who comes to her bake stand to purchase an
old fashioned raspberry pie". (From back cover of book)

Seth Lapp is a handsome, kind, hard working man who loves his fiance, Veronica with all his heart. Veronica feels extremely thankful that she is to marry her best friend in the world.

Then, the unthinkable happens!! An accident on the job, steals Seth away from her. Her grief overcomes her. Veronica is sure that she will never be loved that way again. Upon discovering a batch of old, forgotten recipes, she opens a bake stand where she sells her Mammi's raspberry pies. A young gentleman, a stranger to her, quickly becomes a regular customer and just happens to make her heart go pitter patter, against her better judgement.

This handsome man, Jason, just happened to have been with Seth when he died, a memory that will haunt him forever. The last thing he expected to happen, being attracted to the grieving fiance, occurred when he went to offer his condolences. He neither wanted or expected to be so attracted to her All of a sudden , raspberry pies become part of his regular diet! He is pulled to Veronica's stand every week, but.... for more than the raspberry pie.

Veronica feels the pull toward a new love despite her effort to ignore the attraction. The problem begins when Jason can't bring himself to tell her that he was present when Seth died. Can he bring himself to tell her? In order to become closer to her , he must reveal this hidden and distressful fact . Will his secret put a hold or a stop to the growing romance??? Can God help these two young folks accept the second chance that He is offering???

The characters in this book are described so realistically that you immediately become part of of them and their story. I found Veronica someone with whom I could easily identify. At times, I felt I wanted to give her big hug, other times, a bit of push toward her second chance!

The plot is one that grabbed me from the first page! This is a different kind of Amish story, one that is somewhat different from what we consider the norm. The story moves steadily and increases in tension as the romance progresses. Unexpected twists and turns appear when you least expect them. The quiet faith of the Amish shine through the problems and challenges of the characters.

My only complaint.... the book ended TOO soon!! I wanted to keep reading and reading and..... Now, I am anxiously awaiting Book 2 in this new series!!

A five star book!! Don't miss this winning novel!!

This book was provided by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

"The Forgotten Recipe" is a story about a young Amish woman who finds purpose in the midst of her grief when she comes across her grossmammi's lost recipe for raspberry pie. Veronica's fiance, Seth, had recently died in a workplace accident, and she is finding it hard to go on with life. Seth's good friend and workmate, Jason, is in the same boat, until he sees Seth's suddenly single fiancee. Though they have never met while Seth was alive, their paths keep crossing from the funeral until their inevitable engagement 290 pages later.

I usually enjoy Amish fiction, but I have to admit that this book was heavy slogging for me. I couldn't ever quite get invested in the characters, who seemed shallow and two-dimensional. The conversations were thin and the plot was predictable. Here's an example of what made the pages so hard to keep turning: On a trip to the grocery store, Veronica says to her sister, "We need to get flour and sugar. Should we go to the baking aisle first?" "That sounds like a gut plan." Emily pushed the cart toward the aisle. "We need to get back to baking as soon as we get home."

I guess my definition of good Amish fiction is that being Amish has to have something to do with the story. This romance was all about overcoming insecurites and misunderstandings, which could have happened to anyone. True, the characters are Amish, but their faith and culture don't seem to be central to the story. Veronica is unbelievably beautiful, Seth was perfect, and Jason is SO handsome..."Was iss letz?" Not realistic!

I hate not being able to give an encouraging review, and I am glad that other readers have quite a different opinion of this book (and have written glowing reviews of it). If you're looking for a light read, this book may be just what you're looking for. Maybe I just expected too much from it.

I received this book from the publisher, Zondervan, through The Fiction Guild in exchange for my honest review. It is a quality paperback and the first in the Amish Heirloom series of novels. It begins with a glossary of common Amish words and phrases, and ends with discussion questions.

How many of us have put away an item, but to find it years later, and have it bring on a set of memories?
I can't say I can in my own personal life.

How many times are we given second chances?
Well, I can say some of us give more than second chances to some people in our lives, depending on the circumstances.
Yes, the Amish are different than us, Englishers. But the Amish are more rooted in their strong faith, along with keeping their families close - if the economy allows, and leaning on their church district.

Well "The Forgotten Recipe" by Amy Clipston is just that, about dealing with heartache, to grief, to friendships, to second chances, and to a forgotten recipe. "The Forgotten Recipe" is a pure delightful to read.

Amy Clipston is becoming a favorite author for me to read in the Amish genre, which is mostly the only genre I read. I have read her Amish Christmas fiction books and novellas written in a collection with other Amish authors. Amy's writing style is easy flowing; there's enough details, that you are not getting lost in the reading following along flow of the story. She gives enough character description that I feel like I am right there with the characters experiencing the same thing or witnessing the same as they are. I am looking forward to reading more of Amy's Amish fiction books in the near future.

I received a free copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. No money was exchanged. This is my honest review in my own words.
