Stand Beautiful by Chloe Howard is a perfect example of trusting God when you don’t feel worthy. As a parent, we like to soften the blows of life for our children - especially so when there is something unique about them that the world can be unkind about. No matter how much we hope, things beyond our control still happen. Chloe was 14 when she was assaulted in the school cafeteria, when girls restrained and forcibly took her shoe off to inspect her battle scars from several club foot surgeries and lacking toenails.
Hoping for a great high school experience, her high school years turned into nothing expected. She had to go to trial when her perpetrators refused to admit guilt. She learned through all of this that she has something to share with the world through the support and encouragement of her parents and even U2 lead singer Bono.
This is Chloe’s story of finding her beauty and sharing that we all have worth as a child of God.
This is a great book to share with junior high and high school students. I will be encouraging my junior high daughter to also read it.
Chloe Howard's book is more of a conversation than words on a page. I felt like we were two friends, talking about her journey through life and what we've both learned.
Born with a club foot and only three out of ten toenails, Chloe was always told she was special, made by God exactly the way He intended, and had a purpose to fulfill.
But when she was assaulted by two bullies at her Christian high school, confusion and darkness crept in. As a mom, I was so hurt and angry on her behalf.
What follows that pivotal incident is amazing, full of hope and purpose and joy. I had to keep reminding myself that Chloe is just out of high school --just 18 years old, and so wise beyond her years.
Her message is powerful, her story is astounding, and her faith is evident in every aspect of her life. Her parents were right: God made her perfectly, loved her unconditionally, and planned a divine purpose for her life.
This is a book I wish was required reading in all classrooms (Chloe, how about a children's book?). If we stand beautiful in our own skin, embracing instead of hiding our scars and defects, and showing the love of Jesus because He first loved us, we could change the world.
Chloe Howard gives me hope for this generation and for future generations.

Stand Beautiful: A Story of Brokenness, Beauty and Embracing it All is the personal story of Chloe Howard, a young girl born with a physical deformity and endured many surgeries and physical therapies in order to be able to walk, skip and even stand. Just to be alive was a miracle, so her physical deformity was made her unique. Her parents told her that she was fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and she was beautiful. When she entered high school, she was physically attacked as students held her down, forcibly took off her shoe and sock and mocked her foot. She said that the 90 second attacked torn down 14 years of self-acceptance. It was a chance meeting with U2’s Bono that she was encouraged to find her voice and be the voice for the millions of students who are bullied every day. What does it mean to stand beautiful? It took me a long time to be able to sit down and read this book but once I did, I was amazed at the wisdom and maturity in this 16-year-old. She has experienced so much in her young life that I applaud her courage and determination. After reading her book, I found her TED talk online and to listen to her story again, I was again astonished at the statistics she presents and heartbroken that so many kids and teenagers experience bullying at such rates. Even though, the book is marketed for youth readers, I highly recommend that adults read it too. It is a great tool to discuss bullying with our children.
Stand Beautiful: A Story of Brokenness, Beauty and Embracing it All is available in paperback, eBook and Audiobook.
Congratulations Chloe Howard for sharing your inspiring story and encouraging others to Stand Beautiful!
I've known Chloe's story her whole life - having known her mom Lori since she was in college. I knew about her operations, her heartbreak after being bullied at a "Christian" High School, her amazement at Dad Dane's luck winning a meeting with Bono from U2, and all the joy that came out of that meant-to-be introduction - then seeing Chloe soar as she took her story to the other side of the world in meeting others born with a club foot - and then sharing her story in a book to reach and inspire even more young adults and grownups. I loved hearing Chloe's voice throughout this very well-written book (especially including the #ChloeHashtags), and I hope many others read this book to learn more about how important it is for us all to #StandBeautiful.
The story and outcomes are heavy on her Christian faith, but it is her story, and I can't fault her for her steadfastness and faith. It is not preachy - just a matter of fact from her perspective. Highly recommended to all needing a beautiful story of inspiration and faith.
An amazing book for all young (and older😉) girls to read. In a world full of changing standards and ideals for who and what and how a woman should be it’s refreshing to have this young voice “Stand Beautiful” and have an understanding that Heavenly Fathers opinion is the only one that matters. True happiness and purpose is found when we become what He wants us to become. I will hand this off to my 12 year old now and can’t wait to have some great discussions with her.
Read in one day, a fascinating and powerful book regarding the issue of bullying, mental illness, depression and rising above personal circumstances to make the best of a difficult circumstance and pay it forward by helping and reaching out to others. Very inspirational from such a young person with support from her parents, brother and extended family. A valuable section at the end of the book about "If You're Being Bullied".
this book has been very inspiring from the beginning. when Chloe gets assaulted, (a popular girl tried to take her shoe of using force and the girls friend restrained her) and she tells her friend, her friend doesn’t seem to care, which bothered me. when she tells her parents, i’m glad they had a reaction opposite of that of her friend. i’m glad chloe told her story and helped others.

This book is so good! I love Chloe's story and how she chooses to stand beautiful in all her trials and hardships. I also love the fact that she's Christian and turns to god and is very grateful for everything. She appreciates her body and club foot because god made her body for her. This book is spiritual, interesting, inspiring, and great all around! I recommend this book 100%!
This was a very heartwarming title that many need to read. This story will make you really think about live and how you interact with people in it. With humor and emotion the author hits it out of the park with a very moving story!
Excellent, uplifting book that should be standard reading for all Christian teens. It is a book about a girl that was bullied/assaulted for having a club foot. She learns to overcome through faith and letting her voice be heard - and relying on Jesus. I'm giving it to my daughter for Christmas.
Stand Beautiful excellently balances humor with emotional bits. The pacing is fabulous, and this book is super inspiring! I would highly recommend Stand Beautiful.
This is the story of brokenness and hurt being transformed into hope and love by an incredible teenage girl. It is a message for everyone, told with clarity and honesty; it is real and courageous.
