Just like the first book in this series I was blown away by this book as well. Ruth Reid has angels in her books and I am sure it is comforting to some. I hope you have a box of Kleenex with you while reading this as you'll need them. Very believable story line and while it was a bit graphically described it shows a perfect example that the Amish don't lead an idyllic life relaxing in the country baking pies all the time as some are apt to think. They have their shares of problems and heartbreak,joy and understanding just as we do. Reading a book by this author makes it hard for me to read another book because I can't stop thinking about this book. Book hangover maybe? I really would like to find out more about Catherine and Elijah's life going forward and especially how she handles her physical limitations now. Excellent book and Highly recommended!

Arms of Mercy was wonderful. This is book 2 in the Amish Mercies series. Abiding Mercy was book 1. Great series, I found it to be a great mystery as well as Amish romance. Characters are well written. Catherine is tired of not being a wife. Ready to settle down so she takes matters into her own hands. Something that is not done in the Amish community. But it doesn't go well at all. a old beau is back in town. How could he come back after what he did to her? Can he explain it to her in what little time they have ? Then there is a accident. Where is Catherine? You will want to read this it is a page turner. Loved it.

Another lovely and compelling story from the wonderful Ruth Reid! I had a hard time putting this one down, as Catherine was immediately likable and I wanted her to find happiness so much. What can an Amish young lady do when she wants to marry, but has waited too long for her boyfriend to propose? When she has had enough waiting and wondering, she takes matters into her own hands, which only makes the gossip and her reputation suffer, so she makes a change and takes a chance. As always, I wonder why Amish women are so constrained when all they want is to have a measure of control over their lives, but Catherine finds her way around those restrictions with the help of her trust in God and in her heart. Highly recommend for fans of Amish and Christian fiction.

Arms of Mercy is an Amish story full of love, faith, and tragedy. I decided to get review copy at the last minute, and I’m glad I did. The story wasn’t quite what I was expecting, but nevertheless, I really enjoyed it.
The main character, Cat, is confused about the future. Deciding that she needs to get away for awhile, she hops on a bus to Florida, where she plans to help her cousin with their family bakery. Only things are don’t go as plan from the start. Her old boyfriend finds out that she’s leaving and decides to join her. While she was still as odds with him, she’s grateful that she’s not making the trip alone. I honesty loved the first 200 pages so much. I didn’t think that it’d focus on the bus ride much, but that’s what a majority of the story is about. They definitely had an adventure. Luggage was stolen and tickets were lost. They had to go through a lot while trying to make it down to Florida. So much happened on their trip that made this book hard to put down. There definitely wasn’t any dry moments.
The characters in this book were all so lovable. This book starts with them all at a party, and you quickly learn how much loving and forgiving they are. Characters later brought into the story like Doc and Kimberly made this book that much better.
If you enjoy Amish fiction I’d definitely recommend this book. I finished it in less than 24 hours and I really enjoyed it!

ARMS OF MERCY is the second book in Ms. Reid's An Amish Mercies series, but it easily stands alone. Fans will want to read Abiding Mercy to find out more about the robbery that was referred to in this book.
ARMS OF MERCY is the story of a not-normal Amish woman, she's twenty-nine, unwed, desperate and proposes to her long-time boyfriend, then runs away when he agrees to marry her. Her former boyfriend is a widower now, and kind of stalking her, though he won't admit to it.
Ms. Reid's trademark angels are included in this story with the angel appearing and making vague scriptural references "The one you seek is not here." (referring to Jesus in the tomb, but in this case, Katherine) and "Trust in the Lord with all your heart...." All well and good, but it came across as odd and preachy in some incidences. There is also a lot of supposition in Catherine's case, and some contradictions in timing that threw me off.
All in all, ARMS OF MERCY was not the best Ms. Reid book I read, but her fans will devour this book. It is a good nontraditional Amish book for those who love Amish but are tired of the "If you read one Amish book you read them all" stereotype. Ms. Reid is one of a very small group who is willing to writing outside the box and for that she gets kudoes.

Oh, how I loved this book, from beginning to end it didn’t disappoint, and just kept getting better.
We journey from our Amish Community in Michigan on our way to an Amish settlement in Florida. What a trip we embark on and it sure isn’t what you expect, one bombshell after another, and you never know where you are going to end up, or if all will survive.
This is a love story, but includes many people to get to the end, and you will keep guessing who the couple is and how it is going to conclude.
Answers will come, and how rumors started become known, forces against and who is the mysterious stranger, yes, we find out, but wow!

This was an interesting book....you were able to read what happens when an Amish couple are courting for a long time and marriage does not happen. I liked that the author wrote about the frustration that Catherine experienced in waiting for Zach to decide if he was going to propose. As well as the jealousy and worry that Catherine felt as she watched her friends marry off.
My heart broke for Elijah even though at first you really want to hate him for the way he left Catherine so suddenly. The selfless decision he made for his wife and then the fall out of what happened afterwards was heart breaking.
The second half of the story though seemed...a little far fetched. The same issue occurs twice on the same trip? What's the likelihood of that happening? I won't go into what happened as to not give it away, but it made that part of the story difficult to believe. It was cute though to read how those events affected Catherine especially her return home and ultimate meeting with Zach again.
The ending felt abrumpt. I think we needed a chapter or two before the epilogue.

Beautifully broken.....beautifully written! Catherine is heartbroken again and decides to take control of her life and leave Michigan to help her cousin in her bakery in Florida. Elijah, her ex has just returned and decides to follow her to right the wrongs he has caused in the past. What ensues keeps you on the edge of your seat and unable to put down as you must discover the outcome. Be prepared to stay up late to finish. Ruth Reid has a way with words that draws you in from the beginning and the power to take an Amish story to new heights. I loved Book I in this series, Abiding Mercy, but this one measures up to the bar it set. The cover is lovely and depicts the lilacs that play an important part of this story. Ms. Reid handles the appearance of an angel in a delicate manner and keeps you guessing until the end. Even if you are not a fan of Amish fiction you might want to give this series a try, as it worth stepping out of your favorite genre for. Perfect example of God giving beauty for ashes.

Arms of Mercy by Ruth Reid is the second An Amish Mercies Novel. Catherine Glick is hoping her boyfriend of five years, Zach will propose to her on New Year’s Eve. Her old beau, Elijah Graber arrives bringing up old feeling in Catherine along with resentment and anger. When her cousin from Sarasota writes about needing help in the bakery, Catherine decides it is providence. Elijah knows that he has hurt Catherine and he would like the opportunity to explain his actions. The bus trip will allow them time to talk and hopefully rekindle their relationship. Elijah has never stopped loving Catherine. Just when they start to grow closer, an accident tears them apart. Elijah is determined to find Catherine and prays for God to assist him in his venture.
Arms of Mercy may be the second book in An Amish Mercies Novel series, but it can be read alone. I thought the book was well written and it had an interesting scenario. My attention was captured and held until the middle of the book. The pacing is good in the beginning, but it slows down considerably in the middle. I was glad when the pacing increased towards the end and I was once again invested in the story. Do you believe that God would send one of his angels to assist you? I believe that God guides us, and it is not beyond belief that in challenging situations, he would send an emissary. It is a thought-provoking concept. Ruth Reid does a beautiful job at weaving Christian beliefs (prayer, having faith, forgiveness) into the story. At times, though, I did feel that there was too much scripture (felt preachy). It is amazing how a lack of communication, misunderstanding and miscommunication can change a person’s life. I could feel (and understand) Catherine’s frustrations with Zach as he continued to drag out their courtship and focused on his watch/clock business. Five years is a long time to wait for a person to commit. The ending did feel a little rushed after the long search (the area that dragged for me), but I appreciated the epilogue. Arms of Mercy is an intriguing story. I am rating Arms of Mercy 4 out of 5 stars. This is a story that will stay with you after you finish it.

Elijah determined to make it right with Catherine, makes the same bus trip. With misunderstanding and new beginnings, they each see themselves in a new light as the travel to Florida from Michigan. When the unthinkable happens, and Elijah and Catherine are parted once again, will love and mercy make a way.
Catherine and Elijah's story only magnify how much we need mercy. That there is always hope when love never gives up.

Arms of Mercy is an amazing book written by Ruth Reid. She has once again out done herself with writing this story that is full of hope, love, and especially faith. I love this book immensly. This book grabbed me from the front cover and I was sad when it ended. I wanted it to go on forever.
Ruth wtites her stories with the faintest hint of a mysterious person leaving you to wonder when he would make an appearance again. This story has a quality all its own. The storyline is absolutely heartwarming reuniting two lifetime friends and sending them on a journey that will leave you totally amazed. The author definitely did her homework in writing this story because of the facts and medical terminology that was used.
The characters are very likeable and realistic and i enjoyed watching them evolve throughout the story. Catherine Glick and Elijah Graber will definetly remain in your heart after you are finished reading their story. I was amazed at the strength that both of these characters displayed and I would love to have friends like them in my life.

Ruth once again has given us an exceptional story of love, faith and determination. Have you ever had someone you love disappear? If so, of it is happens in the future, regardless of how they disappear, through their own actions or a catastrophic action/accident, just how long would you keep looking? How long would you have the faith that 'they' will return or be found? I don't know if I have an answer, I would ask myself if it depends on the circumstance 'causing' the disappearance. Are they hiding, not wanting to return or is something else going on. An interesting story, ENJOY!

This is an unusual Amish romance with just a small touch of the supernatural added. The story took several unexpected turns and I was very interested in seeing what happened to Catherine and Elijah. I felt as if there were two parts to this book, although the author did not designate it that way. There was one small section that I thought slowed the story down just a bit too much, but I’m glad that I kept reading to the conclusion. I did not realize that this was the second in a series until I had finished the book, so not having read the first one did not hinder my enjoyment of this one in any way. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will read more from this author. I’m giving this four stars because of the unusual plot.

Arms of Mercy was fast paced initially, but it seemed to slow down later due to a tragic accident. The hero and heroine had a lot to overcome after an accident while traveling to Florida. Their injuries and separation caused deep despair to Jacob. Reid’s writing with an angel appearing left messages for each one that provided reassurance but doubt at times. The new characters in the last part of the book provided some unexpected twists and turns. Fans of Ruth Reid will want to read her latest book.

I am a huge fan of Ried's and I was not disappointed with her latest. I was hooked from the first chapter.

Arms of Mercy was an unexpected love story to which I can say threw me in a fit of upset and a distraught state. Ruth took heart break to its fullest when it comes to an Amish romance book and it took miles and miles to get to the happiest place. Ruth Reid you seriously have a way with words and know how to put a not in my stomach and pray up above that the end will turn out okay!

If you enjoy reading Amish Fiction you are probably already familiar with Ruth Reid. She is a very skilled author in bringing to life and insight of the daily life of the Amish community. Her books are always filled with deep faith, a touch of romance and well developed characters. You can always expect a few unexpected twists that keep you guessing as well.
Arms of Mercy was a very enjoyable read and the cover is absolutely beautiful! Highly recommended for Amish fiction lovers!

Very interesting book. I don’t want to ruin the storyline too much. Catherine fears she is going to be an old maid which prompts her to propose to her boyfriend of many years. At the same time her cousin in Florida asked her to come help her with baking at her restaurant.
She does not make it to Florida, but you will need to read the book to find out why. Good story I enjoyed it very much.

I was delighted to be invited to read this awesome new novel by Ruth Reid.
I really liked this book!
However; Abiding Mercy will remain my favorite.
The only thing I didn't really like about the book was that I thought there were some scenes that were too drawn out. In other words I thought that Ruth focused on too much of one thing.
Elijah and Catherine are great people. I thought they were very brave!!
In light of all that has happened throughout this story I think I'd be afraid to travel again if I were them!!
As a believer, I think that it was wonderful how Ruth added the Angel. I'll never be uncomfortable with a guardian angel!! Where would we be without them?
I liked how she wrote that it was how people were too full of themselves to really "see", what was in front of them.
Even tho I really couldn't get into the 2nd half I still give this book 5 stars because I like Ruth's style of writing and we'll thought out characters.
Some places in this book will make you cry and hold your breath because you'll want to see what happened to Elijah and Catherine.

Did I love this book? Yes, I did. I am not going to write the details of it, because the synopsis was really well written and tells what you need to know.
As I was reading through some of the trials Elijah and Catharine went through, the tender mercies that they received, reminded me that we are not alone in what we have to go through in life. It was a sweet reminder that there is a higher Being that knows everything we need to make it through our trials.
It was a very sweet read and I really was happy that I had a chance to read this very good book!

Arms of Mercy is the second installment from Ruth Reid’s Amish Mercies series. I had no problem getting through the first 2/3 of the book, but the storyline slowed way down for me. I lost interest for a little while until I was closer to the end. So glad I pushed through to find out what happened in the end.
Though I did enjoy Arms of Mercy, I did not enjoy it as much as the first in the series, Abiding Mercy. I give this one 3 1/2 stars. I look forward to see what happens next in the next Amish Mercies series.

Arms of Mercy is a beautifully written inspirational romance with a bit of mystery. Loved the plot and the well developed characters. Ruth Reid always delivers a good read and this book was no exception. I highly recommend this book.

This was an interesting book. The back copy had me intrigued, which prompted me to select this book to read. But as usual, sometimes the back copy doesn't really relate very well to the contents of the book. I found that to be the case with this story.
"Catherine Glick is hoping for a proposal after five years with her current boyfriend, but the arrival of an old boyfriend, Elijah, puts a kink in everything. Her old boyfriend left and ended up marrying someone from out of town. When Catherine makes the rash decision to propose everything is skewed out of place. Plus with her job in town being eliminated, she needs work to help support her brother's family.
Taking a position with a cousin at a bakery in Florida, she heads out on a bus south. However, on the same bus is her former boyfriend, Elijah. He is seeking work Florida to start a new beginning.
They bond and reignite their friendship from before, but tragedy strikes the bus in the form of an accident. Lives a thrust apart and mayhem. Catherine is missing and Elijah is determined to find her."
Everyone has different authors and writing styles. For me, I thought this book had so much potential but somewhere along the way it lost it. There wasn't a melody with the story, the ebbs and flows that creating a song with words. And by the time it made it to the middle of the book, I thought there was just too much detail and time spent on the searching. I completely understand the reasoning, to try and get us, as the readers, to develop an emotion involved with seeking the lost. But for me, I just found it too much. And then the end of the book, just seemed a bit rushed.
Again, the premise and promise of the book had such strong potential for a breathtaking story. This was the first story I've read by this particular author. I may give her another chance with the first book of the series.

Arms of Mercy is book #2 in the Amish Mercies series by Ruth Reid. Once again, this author delivered a unique Amish book that included the supernatural element of angels. This is one of my favorite things about this author. I truly feel as if this unique addition of the spiritual realm sets these novels apart from others in the same genre.
The characters in this novel were so well-developed. I felt a connection with each character, Amish, and English alike. These were the type of characters you just can't help but like.
The spiritual element is subtle and reminds us of the ways in which we may entertain angels, unaware. The spiritual encounters were so flawlessly woven into this story in a believable way. There wasn't any tacky, "I'm an angel sent by God," moments that so make me cringe in Christian novels.
Overall, this book is a solid 4-4.5 read. The only reason I'm not giving it a five is that I felt slightly bogged down during parts of the story involving a lawyer. I felt his presence distracted me from what was going on with the story and then because time was spent on lawyer involvement, the ending was a bit rushed. I would have liked to have seen more romance between the main characters and less time wasted with some lawyer trying to get Elijah to hire him. Still, this book was almost perfect and it's definitely worth having in my collection. I would recommend this book to others who love Amish fiction but want something fresh and new from the genre.

I've never read an Amish book quite like this one, and was really fascinated at how it unfolded. You've got a girl, two boys, and a tragic accident that we wouldn't typically see in an Amish community. Everyone's running away from something, unless they've forgotten what they're running from, and eventually they come full circle to where they're supposed to be...albeit a bit changed. Themes of survivor guilt, forgiveness, and acceptance are featured in the book. The love triangle isn't as prominent as it appears to be at the very beginning; rather it's the tragedy that takes center stage and changes everyone involved. And the very very end? Beautiful; just beautiful.

Wow! This story kept me up reading past my bedtime and quickly turning pages on my lunch breaks. When I wasn't reading this book I was thinking about it. The story, like most of Ruth Reid's, isn't the kind usually found in the genre. Her stories are grittier, edgier, deeper, and always a roller coaster ride of emotions.
This story starts out slow and there's a lot of tension between the main characters. The past between Catherine and Elijah is also revealed slowly but this turns out to be a perfect setup for the rest of the story. I liked that the characters in this book were complex and had flaws. It showed that the Amish don't lead easy, perfect lives like some believe.
As to the writing of the story, well, it's just perfect. The author created a believable story and it's easy to tell she researched topics well. There is a good flow to the story and the story changes back and forth between Catherine and Elijah. This kept the story fresh and kept me reading to find out what was happening to the character I wasn't currently reading about. The author is an excellent storyteller and knows how to get the reader's interest and keep it from beginning to end. Her way of telling the story and her descriptions make me feel as if I'm actually part of the story instead of just reading words on a page.
This is the second book in the Arms of Mercy but can be read as a standalone. I highly recommend this book as it's a well-written, emotional read.

Oh how I loved the story of Catherine Glick and Elijah Graber! As a longtime fan of the authors work, I knew this book would be good, but I didn’t expect to become so attached to the characters and to care about them so much.
To be completely honest I thought the storyline would be one of unrequited love when I first started reading and that would have been just fine with me. The story went in a totally different direction than I expected when, Catherine decides to go to Florida to work in her cousins bakery. What I thought would be a predictable and familiar storyline is quite the opposite.
This book kept me reading until the early hours of the morning because I needed to find out what would happen next in this beautifully written story. I can honestly say that from now on when I smell lilacs, I will think of this book.

Arms of Mercy is book two in An Amish Mercies Noel by Ruth Reid. Catherine and Zach have a date to take a sleigh ride. They have been seeing each other for several years and Catherine is thinking Zach will propose. Until Catherine's ex-boyfriend Elijah returns. When Catherine realizes Zach is not going to propose, she makes plans to travel to Florida to help a family member. Elijah finds out she is going on a trip and gets tickets to go as well. Their trip is filled with tragedy, they are involved in more than one bus accident, both are severely injured and separated.
This is a really good story. Even though it is part of a series, it is a good stand alone story as well. It is a good clean story that shows us the need for forgiveness and listening to God. While reading the story I was repeatedly feeling like nothing else could possibly go wrong. One of the things I liked about this book is that in the worst of times, Catherine still knew the importance of God and prayer. Even when she did not know who she was. I also enjoyed that both Catherine and Elijah were open to listening to the man that would pop into their lives from nowhere and disappear again, possibly an Angel? Catherine has to open her heart to forgiving, not only Elijah, but others who caused Elijah to leave Catherine years earlier. I would recommend this story to any one who enjoys reading Amish stories.
