KIERON GILLEN has changed the face of war comics forever with the introduction of Uber. After the World-changing events of the previous issue, everything is different. As the true power of the Battleships is just settling in, Uber Year II begins with a deeper look at some of the players left standing. This arc of unthinkable atrocities is illustrated by GABRIEL (Ferals) ANDRADE.
Nice to get a little back story on Stephanie AND get a first glimpse at the new Leah Cohen. And yeah, it's gross and vile and just how I like it. And now I'm wondering how Leah Cohen will fare against the panzermensch. I mean, you can see how there will be a confrontation between Leah and Sieglinde, eventually. But....will she be ready or will this be another first arc Colossus heartbreak (still can't believe that)....or maybe, just maybe, the panzermensch will see the futility of continuing the war since everyone is losing, all the resources are being squandered, and they really are the ubers.....maybe they'll try to cross the aisle, so to speak? I dunno.
Also usually I don't really read the back letters all the time, but I did today and kinda got a little sad. I'm really attached to Caanan White's illustrating style. It fits the very graphic and powerful narrative. Sometimes it's ruthless and the art really drives it home... So I'm a bit hesitant now that I know there will be two other artists working on it, though I think Gabriel Andrade's done a great job on this one. Daniel Gete's supposed to come in for 2. As long as they keep it bleak, gross, bloody, and moist--it should be fine.
