What happens when opposites meet? When two completely different people find themselves drawn to each other? Can they really find happiness together? Can wheelchair-bound Ritwika find a chord that connects her to national-level athlete Chetan? Will Aditi's irrepressible cheerfulness restart Jayant's life, put on indefinite pause since his parents' death? Does Indu, happily divorced, rediscover her faith in love with the reclusive Lokesh? When Opposites Meet is the story of three unlikely couples and the differences between them. It's the story of love, and the possibility of finding it in the most unlikely of places.
Sachin Garg is known for writing stories which not only ring a chord with the reader but also leaves him with a long lasting thought.
Described as an author worth checking out (MTV), A must read (Red FM) and a writer who will be enjoyed by all (Times of India), he continues to write stories which redefine numbers in the India Publishing Industry.
In his novel 'I'm Not Twenty Four', released in 2010, he has written an unusual story of a Delhi girl who landed in a small village in the middle of nowhere. The book received widespread commercial and critical acclaim and enjoyed prolonged stay on Bestseller lists.
Sachin is an Engineer from Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) and did his MBA from MDI, Gurgaon. Apart from books, he has a keen interest in strength training activities and travelling.
In 2011, he quit his day job to start his own venture in print media.
When Opposites Meet by Sachin Garg is a well written story conceptual wise, dwell various emotions a human ever witnesses. It will make you to love, laugh, feel the pain and passion altogether.
The plot is more stronger, the way author connected the three different odd couples is top notch. Novel evidents that love has no timing or situations, it needs to be feel at right moment.
The novel is whole new in one side Ritwika a wheelchair bound is connected towards national level athlete Chetan, on other side a nomadic girl Aditi changes Jayant a so silent boy's life, on another side Ritwika's mother Indu a divorced women rediscovers love through Lokesh.
The novel is indeed an ride of various emotions, story is so good yet the book cover is so simple which makes to think like author is more focused on story part. When Opposites Meet would be a definite suggestion to romance readers, I strongly felt that Sachin Garg have some simple yet conceptual narrative which is missing in many new authors.
When Opposites Meet by Sachin Garg is a romantic story revolving around the life of six individuals who are connected to each other. Ritika , a wheelchair bound girl lives with her mother Indu and cousin Jayant. She crosses path with Chetan , a well built athlete. She dislikes him at first but after knowing him , she finds a chord that connects them.
Jayant , who lost his parents in an accident lives with his aunt Indu and is a shy and introvert person. He turns reclusive after the loss of his parents but upon an encounter with Aditi while buying maggie , he gets attracted to the chirpy girl.
Indu , Ritika's mother is a single woman who is content with life despite being persuaded by her daughter to give her life a second chance . But life takes a turn when she meets Lokesh who also happens to be the person researching upon Chetan after he was involved in a doping scandal.
The plot is well thought of and stands out in the contemporary romance genre. The writing style is lucid and connectable which is important for a book to strike a chord with the readers. The dialogues are hilarious at some point and the author has done a commendable work by giving equal importance to all characters. The story is narrated equally from the standpoint of all main characters which creates a balance and stability.
The strong point of the book is the introductory chapters where the author describes the characters before moving on with the main plot.
A simple looking book with a simple title yet a moving story .Recommended.
Love is a strange thing. It can happen to anyone. It doesn’t matter who that person is. Love knows no logic. It can happen with someone who is like you or totally unlike you. The book is about love of polar opposites.
There are three love stories in the book featuring polar opposites in each. 1. Main story is of Ritwika and Chetan Jadhav. They both suffer from a rare genetic disease. Ritwika is differently abled and wheel chair bound. She is studious, creative and intelligent but very weak and frail physically. Chetan is a wrestler who is accused of using drugs. He is very strong physically but not so bright mentally. They are different like chalk and cheese.
2. Indu Dua is Ritwika’s mother who is very bindass with her. Indu and Ritwika are more like friends than mother daughter. He meets her professor Lokesh who is brilliant scientifically but awkward socially. They also fall for each other.
3. Jayant Arora is Ritwika’s cousin who is an orphan. He is silent and introvert. He meets a mentally unstable girl Aditi Sharma who has a strange disorder. She swallows things which are inedible. She is a chatterbox and can’t stop talking.
The book is paced well and tries to bring forth the love between different people who are fighting their own demons. Ritwika is sad because she is handicapped whereas Chetan is hurt because he is accused of doping. Indu is a widow with a handicapped daughter and depressed nephew and Lokesh is sad because he is trapped in a marriage. Jayant is depressed due to death of his parents and Aditi is sad because of her mental disorder. So it says love can bloom despite all odds and unfortunate circumstances.
Weather love can blossom between opposites can be a matter of debate. But is agree with Sachin Garg on one thing; It is a good thing because they complement each other and make up for each other’s weaknesses.
When opposites meet" is a fictional genre intentionally created by Sachin Garg to influence readers who may be digging for gold, (this is it people!) This book contains short love stories of two generations, where the old couples will give you chance to swing and sing swiftly with the time, and the young love birds will teach you how to back flip & jump in the depth of the love's ocean. With the great punctuations and great language this story will win your heart every time you read it.
Whether you like love stories or not this book will teach you true meaning of love. As a bestseller author had done great research to carve this beautiful book.
Give this book a chance, I bet you will enjoy every chapter.
Book Name: When Opposites Meet Author Name: Sachin Garg Format: Kindle No of Pages- 216 Publisher: Harlequin (imprint of HarperCollins Publishers) Blurb: What happens when opposites meet? When two completely different people find themselves drawn to each other? Can they really find happiness together? Can wheelchair-bound Ritwika find a chord that connects her to national-level athlete Chetan? Will Aditi's irrepressible cheerfulness restart Jayant's life, put on indefinite pause since his parents' death? Does Indu, happily divorced, rediscover her faith in love with the reclusive Lokesh? When Opposites Meet is the story of three unlikely couples and the differences between them. It's the story of love, and the possibility of finding it in the most unlikely of places. Cover: The cover design of the book is simple yet eye catching because of the animated figure portrayed beautifully and that too while complimenting the title aptly. So, it’s really a good job done by Pratibha Gurnani Creative. Title: The title is catching and thought provoking indeed. And keeping the theme and the content of the story in mind, I can say that the title is definitely appropriate. Language & narration: The language of the book is lucid and simple to comprehend. I would like to mention that there are few places where I found rich words in grammatical meaning and I have not come across such words very often while reading; so (according to me), good selection of words to ornament the sentence I must say. Uses of just a little Hindi words are there at a place and some words are printed in italic font to emphasize at places where needed. The narrating style of the author is highly impressive and because of the fast pace & gripping narration, I never felt anywhere lack of flow in the book while reading. The narrating style is capable enough to make a reader hooked with the book till the end. Plot: Author has crafted the plot very thoughtfully and pretty much captivatingly indeed. Because the concept bringing opposites together along and depicting the journey of 3 completely different couples simultaneously is the most unique and attention seeking I must say. Setting: The setting of the story is in Delhi, and various places inside the city. Characterization: Characterization is something the author Ace at. Strong and crystal clear portrayal of the characters made a story best to connect with. All the characters (along with the 6 major characters) have been justified to their respective roles till the end. All the shades and differences of their characteristics are evident from the story very well. Names of the characters mentioned in the book are- Ritwika Dua, Bikram, Indu Dua, Ravi Dua, Lokesh Nair, Jayant Arora, Chetan Jadhav, Aditi Sharma, Dr. Gupta, Varun, Yogi, Somesh, Romila Dutta, *Arnab Goswami, Vijesh, Anu, Dr. Sharma. Theme: Attraction between opposites, inspirational, Love & relationship. Story in a nutshell: The story revolves around the journey of 3 couples contrary to each other on 3 different ways. Ritwika was a talented young girl with a cheerful & genuinely caring soft heart, but she was differently able as her limbs were smaller compared than her body. At a very young age (5) she started stumbling & tripping, constantly falling flat on her face & her muscles had begun to atrophy. So, for this reason, she had to depend on a wheel chair. She made peace with her life accepting her condition and stopped reacting on people’s sympathy about her condition. She knew that she had more important & bigger things to achieve and she will someday. But it’s not any usual disease she was suffering from. Life was on a single track for her till she crossed paths with Chetan who was National level athlete, a Champion wrestler. Chetan was the most promising talent that India could have at his time, but destiny strikes. Chetan was banned and prohibited from taking part in Olympics as he had an allegation of taking Dopes (banned substances to enhance performance). Chetan was exact physically opposite to Ritwika as Chetan had extremely strong & powerful physique with heavy built and over growing muscles in his body. On the other hand, Indu Dua (mother of Ritwika) was a divorced Woman. During the time span of her marriage, Indu realized that her husband, Ravi was no more a person she loved and they decided to part their ways by a mutual peaceful divorce. She brought Ritwika single handedly as she was in a good and reputed person in her job; she was a counselor of a renowned NGO. It’s just one of her working days that she met Lokesh Nair who was a professor of Ritwika’s college. Lokesh Nair was a man with wisdom and respectable personality; he was living separated from his wife because they realized that they are not compatible with each other and while the feeling love comes into a marriage, both of him and his wife Anu shared different needs and views, so they started living separately without disturbing each other but not divorced. Lokesh was socially opposite to Indu because he was still married. This side, Jayant was the cousin brother of Ritwika as he was the son of Indu’s sister. He was being brought up in Indu’s house after the sudden unfortunate death of his parents in an accident. He was too fragile to bear this trauma and became an extremely isolated & mentally devastated as a person. He started living life completely being separated from the outer world only with his own. But fate made him come across a young cheerful spontaneous girl named Aditi, who was 6 years older than him. She was girl with her own unique different types of likes & dislikes and wanted to live life with no regrets. She wanted to launch videos on YouTube to noticeably popular in social media. She had a full of life heart and she was exactly emotionally opposite to Jayant. What happened when these 3 odd couples met? When and how their lives got intertwined with each other? What exactly were reasons for these couple to continue with each other? What were the reasons of Ritwika’s problem and what happed to Chetan’s career after his suspension? Is it possible for a divorcee Woman to pair up with a married Man? Will Aditi’s dream become successful? Will Jayant ever be able to get out of his self made shell and start living a normal life? To get your answers and to know what happened when opposites meet, just pick a copy of this book and go through their story by yourself. My Verdict: Author Sachin Garg has done a perfectly crafted and well enough commendable effort by penning down this story with such unique concept. I was amazed by seeing the way author thoughtfully turned their moments sensible and get them along with each other in a mature way. Not only this book has put forth the different journeys of 3 contrary couples but shows the depth in the relationships and the different shades of their minds and hearts and how they coped up with. It’s not just about simple attraction or love that happened casually, but the stages they covered with each other, means their journey mattered the most. The mental strength of Ritwika, her supporting nature and efforts to make a person smile, caring heart, the emotional battle that Jayant fought every day since his childhood, the pain he was enduring in his little heart, the love of Aditi, the view on love by Prof. Lokesh, and his effort of finding the problem of Ritwika & Chetan, everything I found very touchy and heart piercing. The amount of research the author has done before penning down the book is evident by the vivid descriptions. We often wonder that if really opposite do attract each other or not and this book has made me content about this. This book touched the core of my heart and I want to thank Sachin Sir for writing this book precisely. Will be looking forward to go through his next project. Drawbacks: If I keep aside the point of using “f” words in the book at some places, then there are no other things that I can consider as a drawback of this book. Honestly I haven’t found any. Recommendation: I would love to recommend this lovely book to romance lovers and everyone out there, especially who are in fond of a good and time worthy book to read. This book is a sure shot for everyone. Rating (Overall): 5/5 Stars.
This is my first read of a book by Sachin Garg. A simple plot intertwined with six characters around whom the story evolves. Going by the genuine fact that opposites attract, the plot revolves around how the three pairs fall in love when each of them is a complementing personality of the other. The cover of the book is of the kind that makes you want to pick it up on the first glance. I really loved the way the story revolved around Ritwika and Chetan. The author has made complete Justice by bringing out what happens when two emotionally, socially, physically opposite people come across and fall in love.
Thank you bookfeverdotnet for providing me with the opportunity to review this book.
THE TITLE- The title itself provides us with the glimpse of love as an expression of a major emotion. The title also symbolizes that sometimes it’s only in the ecstasy of unrepressed movement that we may enter the stillness of our authentic selves. In such sacred moments, the world seems to be in step. This is why the idea of finding love across the dance floor endures — symbolizing that, when we know the true rhythm of our heart, we know the other. The sad part is that we will probably end up loving someone without them for much longer than we loved someone when we knew them. The title beautifully illustrates the paradox of the word “Opposites”. Some things seem to be viewed in similar ways by many people, and I think we should take another look at these and truly question them. In our search for our own truth we need to ensure that we are not acting like sheep, merely following the herd behaviour. One of these areas is that things are often regarded as opposites, things like black and white, day and night, light and dark, are obvious examples. A more open view might say they are opposite sides of one coin. I would go a little further and suggest to you that they are actually part of the same thing. Just as the coin cannot exist without its two sides, I would suggest that our world cannot exist without these so called opposites because they give us a spectrum to exist in, a matrix, or framework, that stretches between the two extremes (or polarities) to include every variation of light and shade that we sense or experience in-between. REVIEW OF THE BOOK- Although the central plot is designed to be a romantic one, a very prominent background plot of connections also dominates throughout the plot. Sometimes we do feel that we don’t know what other people are like. How then can we put any trust in personal relationships, or cling to them in the gathering political storm? In theory we can’t. But in practice we can and do. Though A is unchangeably A or B unchangeably B, there can still be love and loyalty between the two. For the purpose of loving one has to assume that the personality is solid, and the “self” is an entity, and to ignore all contrary evidence. And since to ignore evidence is one of the characteristics of faith, I certainly can proclaim that I believe in personal relationships. All the six characters’ Indu, Ritwika, Jayant, Lokesh, Chetan, and Aditi proves that No relationship is perfect, ever. There are always some ways you have to bend, to compromise, to give something up in order to gain something greater...The love we have for each other is bigger than these small differences. And that's the key. It's like a big pie chart, and the love in a relationship has to be the biggest piece. Love can make up for a lot. The idea of the opposite was well described through the characters and it suggested that If we accept that opposites (or gradations of circumstances, or differences in ways of being) are all part of the same hologram of life (just as we need different shades and colours to make up a picture), then we can see that we need all those aspects to make up our world. The author also beautifully exemplified the idea of a true relationship using the six characters as a catalyst. There is a relationship between the eye contacts we make and the perceptions that we create in our heads, a relationship between the sound of another's voice and the emotions that we feel in our hearts, a relationship between our movements in space all around us and the magnetic pulls we can create between others and ourselves. All of these things (and more) make up the magic of every ordinary day and if we are able to live in this magic, to feel and to dwell in it, we will find ourselves living with magic every day. These are the white spaces in life, the spaces in between the written lines, the cracks in which the sunlight filters into. Some of us swim in the overflowing of the wine glass of life, we stand and blink our eyes in the sunlight reaching unseen places, we know where to find the white spaces, and we live in magic When you meet someone so different from yourself, in a good way, you don't even have to kiss to have fireworks go off. It's like fireworks in your heart all the time. I always wondered, do opposites really attract? Now I know for sure they do. YOU SHOULD READ THIS BECAUSE-
1. THE BEAUTIFUL AMALGAMATION OF CONTRAST WITH LOVE.
2. THE EMOTIONS DESCRIBED THROUGHOUT THE PLOT.
3. THE NARRATION OF THE STORY .’
RATINGS- Overall I would like to rate the book 43 on a scale of 50. 4 stars out of 5 1. Originality of the plot and sub plots- 9/10 2. Net emotions in the story- 8/10 3. Usage of words and phrases-8/10 4. The title, cover and the illustration-9/10 5. The net impact on the readers- 9/10
As a Science student, I’ve been made to believe that it’s true. After all, the North and the South always attract each other and the North and the North always repeal and so, the North and the South are meant to meet. However, in regard to people, I always believed it to be the opposite.
Or no, with respect to people, I never understood what opposite and what non-opposite actually signifies. Two people can be different in one regard and similar in another. Are they, then, opposite or similar? Definitely a question to ponder over.
And this book by Sachin Garg made me ponder over just that.
The story of When Opposites Meet revolves around three couples, each opposite to each other in a different manner:
1. Ritwika and Chetan, who were physically opposite
2. Indu and Lokesh, who were socially opposite
3. Aditi and Jayant, who were emotionally opposite.
The whole book moves around getting these three couples together and giving them the happily ever after they deserve after going through everything that they went through in their individual lives. I found everything well-plotted, that too in such a way that the love of three different generations was evident to appear right from the start. There is Teenage Love, Young Love and finally, Old Love.
What really irked me about the book was its cover. It features only one couple – a girl reading a book and a really strong boy, which I’m guessing are Ritwika and Chetan. Now although this cover is simple and beautiful in its own way, it is still about one couple and one couple only — unlike the book which is of the story of three.
Another thing that I noticed about it was that as soon as I read the first few pages, it seemed like a biiiiig NO to me. As in, in the beginning, it felt to me as if the story was being narrated to a kid. Soon, thankfully, the things improved for the good and I found the story to be lovely.
Another thing that I didn’t very well like was how there was a sudden shift in the point-of-view from one person to another, leaving me, as a reader confused as to which character knew what and which character didn’t know what. Although each character was given his/her own story and traits, this sudden shift reduced my strength to listen to them. Other than that, the pace of the book was beautiful and up to the mark. There were interesting pieces everywhere and the little 205 page thing did not bore me anywhere.
Yet, the character of Ritwika confused me a great deal. For starters, here is a question that I need an answer for: If Ritwika’s aim was to be popular enough on Twitter to have brands paying her to tweet about them, then why did the idea of Aditi wishing to be a Youtube star not go well with her?
Both Twitter and Youtube are social media platforms. To be a star on one means money. If the both of them wanted the same things, then why did she be repulsed by Aditi’s reply. She also seemed a little too mature for her age. For example, the thoughts that she had when she was eight about her disease seem far more than what an eight-year-old can think, which made her all the more unrelatable.
And then there was the issue of VYRS. It was a local band in the book that was trying to gain its popularity slowly and steadily. Ritwika had good intentions to make them feel happy and everything by getting some thirty or so people to attend their concert, but the thing that she had forgotten to think about was how would the band react if no one came to their next concert. Frankly, no matter how good the intentions, I believe that was something any sane human organizing a meet would have thought over. Later in the book the ignorance of this minute detail of course, results in a huge fiasco but well…that’s a story for you to find out.
What I think I’m trying to say is that although each character was special in his/her own regards, I found Ritwika’s character particularly underdeveloped and unlikable, despite her disease. (That should have gotten some sympathy vote from me, but it didn’t, no idea why.)
So yeah, that’s it. Other than her character, I loved almost everything about the book. A ride of various human emotions, this novel made me a witness to a very conceptual narrative, often missing in new and upcoming books.
‘When Opposites Meet” by Sachin Garg is a riveting tale woven around six lives struggling with their own set of inhibitions and limitations. Chetan is a wrestler who is alleged to be the one using unfair means to build his body. Ritwika has got underdeveloped limbs that restrict her life in the boundaries drawn by her wheelchair. Indu is an ambitious woman who is smart enough to bring up her daughter on her own and fend for herself. Lokesh is a professor inclined towards his intense scientific research that drew him apart from his wife. Aditi is a cheerful girl filled with absurd ideas and weird fantasies. Jayant is an estranged teenager who lives in the isolation. What will happen when the two extremes are drawn to each other?
Ritwika and Chetan are physically opposite.
Indu and Lokesh are socially opposite.
Jayant and Aditi are emotionally opposite.
Will they find happiness together? Read this book to catch the essence of “opposites attract”.
The title is aptly chosen to go in line with the central theme of the book. The novel revolves around the extreme poles and how do the circumstances make them fall in the same place together. We are made to believe that opposites stay together, that they are perfect for each other, that their frequencies match perfectly, that their vibes complement each other and that they are the lobsters for each other. The cover is simple and moreover mundane. Little more efforts would have made it turn out to be a nice piece.
Speaking about the narrative, it is very well crafted. The effortless development of the different characters along with a meticulous portrayal of their personalities enhanced the beauty of the book. There are quite a many themes interspersed together to bring out this piece of fiction. The author has talked about the rare medical condition of Lamin gene mutation, the unusual physiological origin of certain urges, the sexual abuse and the stigma associated with it and the love that brings a difficult medical surgery to succession.
The proper use of language kept me glued to the book. The coherence, as well as the methodical approach towards the events of the story, is worth mentioning. The concept behind the union of opposites has been brought out beautifully. The different stories that run parallel to each other give us a fresh perspective. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves to indulge in fiction and craves for novelty!
It is not conceivable for every single pair, who are like two peas in a pod, to be destined. Occasionally we have to go with the actuality that “Opposite poles attract each other”. Personally, I feel, a bond of such kind will be so mutual than the other case and the same happens in ‘When Opposites Meet’ by Sachin Garg.
Here is the blurb of the story:
Indu, Ritwika and Jayant belong to one family, all encountering and tackling problems, thrown by their own life. The void in your heart need to be filled by the right person. Else, the same void will mock at you for the rest of your life. Indu being a divorcee, lives a simple life with her daughter Ritwika, who is physically challenged and her nephew Jayant, who has drawn himself a circle, away from the world.
The justification of the characters is remarkable that we will not be able to change the importance from one character to other. Each character stays firm to the ground. With these three we have another set of characters; Lokesh, Chetan and Aditi who enters their life, respectively.
With passing of time, each one start realizing that they aren’t just like the other random person passing their way, but those special ones, with whom they will reach their destinations.
The tale, does end with a happy note but before reaching the end, you will have to cross so many twists and turns, which will hit you abruptly and make the read, a worth.
What are the differences they find with each other? How do they blend together regardless their opposites? What happens when opposites meet? To unlock the answers, grab the copy.
The author, Sachin Garg, has chosen a simple style of narration which will make any one to enjoy the story. Also, the three different love tales are set with three different age group which is an added point. Readers can easily picture the tale and grasp the essence of the plot. Certain picky lines will tantalize your mind, even after the read.
Is it even possible to get hold of our opposites?? Indeed!! After all, Humans are made to make opposites combine…
When Opposites Meet' by Sachin Garg is a romantic fiction, which also has comic elements in it. The story is about six individuals whose lives are interlinked.
Ritwika Dua is a wheelchair-bound girl who suffers from severe muscle atrophy. She lives with her mother Indu and cousin brother Jayant. Her professor, Lokesh Nair finds out and informs her that her muscle atrophy is caused due to a rare genetic disease, Lamin Gene Mutation. Ritwika comes across Chetan Jadhav, who is a national-level athlete. He too suffers from the same genetic disease but in his case, the muscles are extremely well-developed. He is physically the opposite of Ritwika. But gradually, a strong bond develops between them. Indu Dua, when she meets Professor Nair, falls in love with him. He too feels the same for her. Jayant is a very quiet young guy, who was deeply shocked at his parents' sudden demise. But his life changes when he meets Aditi Sharma, an extrovert and happy-go-lucky girl. She aspires to be the biggest Youtube star of the country. Ritwika and Chetan are physically opposite. Indu and Lokesh are socially opposite. Jayant and Aditi are emotionally opposite.
So, this story basically tells us what happens when people with opposite characters meet. Do they attract? Do they stay in love?
The plot was okayish. I was not very highly impressed by it. However, some portions of the book are really good. What I liked about the book is the fact that it very well focused on the relationships between three different generations. Also, each of the characters has been very well developed and unique. The book is fast-paced and hence a page-turner. The use of lucid language makes it an easy read.
This book is a nice light-read. You can give it a try, as overall it is a refreshing read. Romance fiction lovers will definitely love this book.
This was my last read for March and since then I have been in a kind of reading slump. I had received this book in exchange for an honest review. These days it takes quite a lot of effort to read a book by an Indian Author especially when the genre is romance. When Opposites Meet has been termed a bestseller and here is my take on the book.
Blurb:
What happens when opposites meet? When two completely different people find themselves drawn to each other? Can they really find happiness together? Can wheelchair-bound Ritwika find a chord that connects her to national-level athlete Chetan? Will Aditi's irrepressible cheerfulness restart Jayant's life, put on indefinite pause since his parents' death? Does Indu, happily divorced, rediscover her faith in love with the reclusive Lokesh? When Opposites Meet is the story of three unlikely couples and the differences between them. It's the story of love, and the possibility of finding it in the most unlikely of places.
My Take on the Book:
I have a lot to say about this book but let me just sum it up in 5 sentences.
Another run-of-the-mill story on romance with quite a predictable and cliched ending. Though the book has quite a few plot holes at many places, it could have been shaped better than what it is currently. The book talks about a certain disease which the lead character is suffering from, but the way the book was written, I'm going to take the least amount of effort in knowing whether it truly exists. The story was written more in the form of an essay rather than a novel. Overall, even with the book being filled with cliches, it is still bearable at certain places. My Rating: 🌟🌟🌟 out of 5
Book in Three Words: Cliched. Avoidable. Tiresome.
First of All, Loved the cover of this book and the title attracted me. This is the story of Indu, Jayant, Ritwika, Aditi, Chetan, and Lokesh. The author plotted story very well where he showed the love of three different generations. Teenage Love, Young Love as well as Old Love. The Plot was very well built, It also explained the power that social media has in today's world. Apart from that author managed to give importance to each character very well. The pace of the story is also good and the author manages to put surprise element. Though in start the story seems lil off, it grabs the interest of reader as it proceeds. It develops a curiosity to know what will happen next. The characterization and narrating style of the author is something I loved. How he beautifully explained how opposites attract and Love is what you do and not what you say. Whenever I look at the book I feel like yes, this will be an interesting read and indeed it was. The way every character manage to came out of their comfort zone for their Love was awesome. The chemistry of Ritwika and Chetan, Lokesh, and Indu, Jayant and Aditi were superb. The story of three couples, Contrary to each other in three different ways. Physically, Socially and Emotionally Opposites. Will they meet? What will Happen next? were the questions that came to my mind. The story is all about friendship, love, romance, bonding, social media and the Opposites.
It's a sweet story, a light read that melts your heart. If you're looking for a light romance story! this is it!!
When opposites meet What is love? Is it just the attraction between two people? Or is it the lust which brings two people together? Nevertheless, love goes beyond all that. Superficially, people involve cataclysmic attraction between themselves and confuse it to that of love. Love doesn't depend on sex, lust, caste, creed, religion, looks or any sort of discrimination. Keeping this fact in mind, the book has been interwoven meticulously shaping some unique concepts and blending them altogether, making the book perfect to be read on any occasion. Cover is beautiful. The animation and graphical covalence involved makes it quite attractive for the readers. Title is apt and matches perfectly with the story. The reference made is quite remarkable and distinguishes it from other books which we find around these days. Theme involves friendships, establishment of own unique identities, love, understanding, bond, depth, emotions, feelings and most importantly crossing all boundaries, going onto any extent to achieve one's dream. Story involves 3 stories of 6 different lives running parallel with each other. The most beautiful aspect of the book is that it's written with a lot of research, the level of writing is mature & helps us to understand our lives better. It also enables the readers connect with the characters easily. The research done on many sectors of the book is also commendable. Language is another aspect that I liked about this book. It's simple, subtle & can be easily understood by the readers. Narration is perfect. A must read, recommended for all the readers.
This story of three very unusual couples interested me. Not for romance, but for other reasons. How does it matter, when all we need from a good book is a few hours of amusement. Sure, we eventually seek books which have great impacts on sure, some even have a life changing impact. This book was certainly not one of those, but it did a great job of keeping me hooked for whatever time I devoted to reading it.
This book astonished me in waves. I mean, there were moments when I felt like I'll give 5 stars to this book, and at the other moments, logic defied in the book leading me to think twice about it. I mean, I was so confused that I couldn't decide if I liked it or not.
The story is not very strong, but strong enough that the pieces eventually fit to make the book a decent read. There is an abruptness in the story without which it would be difficult to lead the story anywhere. But I don't think I minded it as it made the book fast paced and not a boring one.
I have to admit that the characters are the best part of the book. They are very peculiar, each one so distant from any of the books I've read previously. This was quite refreshing, to read about such unique characters.
Even though this book lacked logic at times, it will qualify as a good reads. It had its flaws, but the fast pacedness and some very unique aspects made reading it worth it.
I'll recommend this book who want to read light contemporary novel, but not lacking uniqueness.
When opposites meet came to me in exchange for an honest review. Here it goes. Rithwika is a regular teenager with muscle atrophy. It's because of this disability she is unable to live her life to the fullest. But she is smart and kind and tries to find happiness by making others happy. Her mother, Indu is a divorcee, but the coolest mom ever. The relation between Indu and Rithwika is more like best friends than mother and daughter. Then as fate intervenes, or more like professor Lokesh does, enters Chetan an international champion in wrestling in Rithwika's life. Both are completely opposite to each other. What happens next changes everybody's life for good. It's a perfect book to read when you are having a bad day or a reading block. The writing is easy and breezy. The characters are relatable and well developed. The end a little abrupt, but makes you want to know more about their lives. What happens next. Hopefully writer Sachin Garg writes a sequel for the same. Fingers crossed. I'll rate this book 3/5.
It is sometimes unusual to fall for the complete opposite person. Unlike, people always tend to have proper match with the ones who are just like them, whose likings are same in every matter and aspect of life.
This book has something different to tell, three different stories where love blooms with sacrifices, commitments, strength. Fights within self ability.
There are 6 main characters in this book, who are portrayed and characterised very well. Ritwika and her mother indu, who are more like friends, who is carefree. But Ritwika is disabled but finds someone stable who is not fit in other ways. Her cousin who is orphan who is very introvert. Everyone has a story to convey, set of emotions which will make your strings of attached to their story.
Sachin Garg, is an amazing storyteller, his narration skills are brilliant and put very. I liked the concept of the book. The book keeps you glued until the last.
Six characters... Six stories... with such complexity comes responsibility of narrating it well otherwise it runs the risk of getting boring, repetitive or messed up at times but the narration just flows seamlessly. It's a clever script well executed. Not overdone nor underdone. Perfectly balanced in all aspects.
A story of three couples weaved together around the concept 'when opposites meet' are.. Indu and lokesh who are socially opposite, Indu's disabled daughter Ritwika and the athlete chetan who are physically opposite, Indu's nephew Jayant and aditi who are emotionally opposite.
When Opposites Meet is the story of three unlikely couples and the differences between them.
Just when the theme sounds interesting and fun, brace yourself to face some spine chilling drama now and then obviously when child sexual abuse, suicide, brain disorder, blind faith, divorce, disability.. are part of the protagonist's life and this real world problems is what pumps life into these nearly fictional characters. Both to carefully tackle and address this issues and not letting the attention divert from the main theme is a commendable writing skill. There are lines in the book which made me stop and think, forcing me into a deep thought and lines where i laughed out loud literally.
Heavy on content and plot but light and quirky. Give it a go, if you like Stories of completely opposite and different characters interweaved flawlessly.
Sachin Garg, The bestselling Author of many books like I’m not twenty four, Never let me go etc. is back with a new book with the crispy social message. Well known for writing about social causes, this time his book is a story of what happens when the opposites meet. Have you ever thought about it? Do they Fall in love? How they accept each other?
We see a lot of love stories in our surrounding but this book is about how one can love the flaws. The uniqueness of the story and the simple language and narration makes it a good read. Every character is perfectly crafted and put in the right place. There are three stories going on simultaneously that makes the book even more interesting. Somewhere the story is predictable but the presentation style covers for that.
Grab the book as a weekend read and I am sure you won’t regret this decision.
'When Opposites Meet' is a story of what happens when completely unlike people fall in love with each other and over come all the differences to form a great pair. The author paints 6 totally different characters who are complete in themselves, yet they need their opposite to make a better life. Not only do they break the social barriers to achieve their love, they also fight their inner conflicts.
The first few chapters of the book reveal the names of the 6 people central to the novel and also establish their characters quite individually: Ritwika Dua, Indu Dua, Jayant Arora, Chetan Jadhav, Aditi Sharma and Lokesh Nair. The story stays together till the end due to a really strong and well planned plot. The 3 pairs formed represent the love of three different generations, from young to old.
The narration of the novel is actually the most attractive part. The author very easily switches from the story of one couple to another, not leaving out any of them and also keeping the interest alive.
Haven’t we read a lot on love, the characteristics of circumstances outlining the behavioural patterns of the one who’s there to change it all?
Yes indeed, we have. But then, isn’t love weaving everything that’s revolving our life?
The author has delicately taken those fabrics to weave the story that will stay in our mind for a long time. Elaborating how life teaches us the art of loving. How love could be that which kindles the aroma of passion for the young and be the starlit night for those who have walked too many dark winters, both at the same point of time.
There couples; three love stories; all entwined. Yet telling us different tales, yet showing us different domains of affection.
This is my first book that I read of Sachin Garg. I would not say it is great book but rather call it a moderate read. That's because the tone of the story kept fluctuating abruptly. It honestly made it really hard for me to acknowledge. I would talk about it in the further segment of this review. I humbly thank Bookfever community for sending me this review copy.
Now, talking about the initial part of the book, it went on really smooth. But somewhere in the middle, where the two lead characters Chetan and Ritwika met, the story started escalating downwards. In fact, I enjoyed the relationship between Jayant and Aditi, the two secondary characters in the story.
Some of the events felt like they were too unconvincing. Character development could have been better. Although, each character stood out with it's own personality. I liked the interweavement of the characters in each of their stories despite of the fact that they had their own stories going.
The plot was quite simple, but as I said earlier, it kind of got lost in the middle and the conversations between the characters became too weak like it did't feel like the chemistry that builds up between the character once we reach midway in the book.
Another drawback is that, the writer had a very vital concept of Lamin Gene mutation in his hand. He could have explored more with that and could have taken the story to a whole another level, but unfortunately, that didn't happen.
Talking about climax and the ending, I am really, like really astounded, the writer was literally rushing towards the ending and it ended within a snap of a finger. I had to take double-take to absorb what actually happened. Events were literally jumping from one episode to another without any notice.
Lastly, I would like to conclude saying that, the plot was very good, but the problem is that it wasn't executed that skilfully. Although, I would recommend this book for casual reading and to budding readers as the narration was very understandable.
Blurb : "What happens when opposites meet? When two completely different people find themselves drawn to each other? Can they really find happiness together? Can wheelchair-bound Ritwika find a chord that connects her to national-level athlete Chetan? Will Aditi's irrepressible cheerfulness restart Jayant's life, put on indefinite pause since his parents' death? Does Indu, happily divorced, rediscover her faith in love with the reclusive Lokesh? When Opposites Meet is the story of three unlikely couples and the differences between them. It's the story of love, and the possibility of finding it in the most unlikely of places."
When Opposites Meet by Sachin Garg, the title itself discloses what could be the main element of the plot. The characters of the story Ritwika, Chetan, Indu, Lokesh, Jayanth and Aditi, Each character is different from one another. The author portrayed three different kind of love stories. The Story also involved some abnormal disorders and the medical reasons of their occurrence. The cover and title is just perfect to the plot. The story line is a gripping which will keep readers just flip on pages. There is a lil bit humour which added much flavour to the plot. The author penned each character and scene in its best way possible. Well there is no reason to not to read this book. Readers who are waiting to read a good book, this book is just what you are waiting for guys. It's a 4.5 star for me :)
Beautiful love stories of three different couples. Ritwika and Chetan, Ritwika’s mother Indu and Lokesh and third couple Ritwika’s cousin Jayant and Aditi. All are different in their world and the destiny creates path for them where opposite souls are get attracted to each other. Wonderfully described every story inside main story. how each ones accept their partner with their flaws and how they fulfill their needs all little things very beautiful. Characterization done very well. narration is easy to understood. Cover looks so simple. It could be better. Title suggests what going to be inside the book. Blurb is interesting and give hints to the inside of the book. Overall nice and happy reading this beautiful story. So, i want to give 3.5 out of 5 stars.
It is like you are reading three different stories at a time. All the three couples are opposite to each other. Overall the book is good, I liked the life of Aditi the most, she is very carefree and stylish girl. The thought of author is also good, this book will force us to think, this is the most beautiful I find in any book.
A book should not be only a plain story, it should not be a plain story of a boy and a girl who fall in love, it should make us think, imagine and help us in getting a better person.
Overall it is a nice read. It also depicts the emotions of a girl in a wheelchair, they also think like we do, inside their heart they feel any other normal human, so the society should also not always feel pity for them.
The book is based on a universally debatable topic. The book covers three love stories of people who are not really related to each other and are so different on so many levels yet they attract each other in wierd ways to form a family.
The writing is naturally fluent and comic. The real life events which happen in our lives are really well implemented in the book. The pace of the book never reduces the interest of the reader. It's a good read for readers of all ages and specially good for someone who wants to read something light. Its mature and comical, relatable and also gives the story in a way which can be identified with , by people of different age groups. Loneliness, Happiness, Unique and Cliche all fit in effortlessly which is why - Kudos to the writer.
I received a free copy of this book from Book Fever [dot] Net in exchange for an honest review.
Do opposites meet?
What I think I’m trying to say is that although each character was special in his/her own regards, I found Ritwika’s character particularly under-developed and non-likable, despite her disease. (That should have gotten some sympathy vote from me, but it didn’t, no idea why.)
So yeah, that’s it. Other than her character, I loved almost everything about the book. A ride of various human emotions, this novel made me a witness to a very conceptual narrative, often missing in new and upcoming reviewers.

Review:
I'll be honest. When I was offered to review this book, I blindly accepted it because: 1. It'd been a long time since I personally bought a new book, and 2. I had been out of work for weeks by then. Sure, I had a long impending list of book reviews to be done, I still had at least 3 or 4 unread books but I didn't feel like reading them given that they were mytho-fantasy fiction thrillers, and I was in my worst phase of writer's block (they do exist), and unfortunately, there was no new Chetan Bhagat novel to be rented and read. So this book was like a fresh restart for me.
Now, I'm supposed to write 'why you, the reader, should pick this book among all other romance novels out in the world'.
I'll leave that to your judgement.
What this book is about: something that has been done-to-death, the theory/fact that "opposites attract".
I'll be honest (again). I was expecting this book to be yet another been-there-done-that story of two deeply contrasting people falling in love and 'happily ever after'. I stand corrected. It does have a kind of 'happily ever after' ending, but the journey the three couples (three freaking storylines within 196 pages, beat that!) go through as the events of their story progress, that...won my heart as a reader. I was impressed by how the characters aren't one-dimensional or half-baked or not-fully-fleshed, they have been made to resemble the people you shall meet everyday. Be it the wheelchair-bound Ritwika Dua and her contrast, national-level athlete Chetan. Be it the man-of-few-words until he meets his contrast Jayant and his contrast, Aditi. And be it the happily divorced and progressive-minded Indu Dua (Ritwika's mom, duh!) and her contrast (and spoiler alert: future boyfriend/husband) Lokesh, who also (spoiler alert) is the person who brings Ritwika and Chetan together, even if it is for research purposes (read the book to find out).
Alongwith solid main as well as supporting characters, the outline and presentation of their stories too is really amazing. There's not a single page or chapter that looks like a filler. In fact, if this book becomes a 'National Bestseller', I won't have any reason to question the readers as this book deserves the label.
Oh, and also, they got the right pricing on this one. Bonus point for that.
Having said what I liked about this book, time for what I didn't.
There's only one thing: 'happily ever after'. It's 50/50 with this book actually. On one hand, I hate incomplete endings (umm...no, no spoiling for this one). On the other hand, I also loved the way Sachin (or his editor) decided to end the book. So, I guess, it's a win-win for all.
(Haven't mentioned the handful of typos I found while reading because they didn't put any speed-bumps in my reading experience.)

Ratings:
The cover is good. Depicts what the book is about in the most simplistic manner - 4/5
The premise is not exactly unique... - 2.7/5
...but the presentation of the story takes the cake - 4/5
The blurb, gives away only a fraction of the story - 4/5
The only thing I didn't half-like was the ending, so I'm deducting a few minor points for that.
Overall, When Opposites Meet, gets a 3.7/5 from me.
Another note: The 'Overall' score I give to the book is not the average of other points. It's what I feel about the book on the whole.

Review: When opposites meet is a romance fiction book, which let you through the journey of love and life. Often we feel that we don't know what other people are like. How can we completely trust to anyone and went for a relationship with them, passing through types of storm comes in our life. The title is good and it reveals that it's a romantic fiction, but when you go through the book, it shows you more thing about life and different perspective. The cover design is good, but could have been better. The book contains 6 characters named Jayant, Aditi, Chetan, Lokesh, Indu and Ritilwika. There is no perfect couple in the universe, we have to compromise in some cases to make others happy, and then only our bonding will get stronger. We have to give something to get something from our life partner or our soul mate. In between the minor difference we have to give priority to our love which holds in between two people. The writer perfectly penned down the true relationship between these six characters chemistries. Ritwika and Chetan Jadhav. They both suffer from a rare inherited disease. Ritwika is differently able and wheelchair bound. She is studious, creative and intelligent, but very faint and frail physically. Chetan is a wrestler who is accused of using drugs. He is very strong physically, simply not so bright mentally. They are like chalk and cheese. The second story is in between Indu and Lokesh. Indu Dua is Ritwika’s mother who is very bindass with her. Indu and Ritwika are more like friends than mother-daughter. She meets her professor Lokesh who is brilliant scientifically, but awkward socially. They also fall in love with each other. Jayant Arora is Ritwika’s cousin who is an orphan. He is silent and introvert. He meets a mentally unstable girl Aditi Sharma, who suffers a strange disorder. She swallows things which are inedible. She is a chatterbox and can’t stop talking.
Story narration is so good that you can complete the book in a single go. I already read a few books by the same author and here he brings something new once again.
