Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.
Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO－ナルト－), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. Sasuke should not be taking fashion advice from Orochimaru. I think that's something we can all agree with.

Hm. It was a decent volume, really, with some twists and turns that could've been better. Kabuto is such a fun character, in a nasty but gentlemanly way. I guess main problem... well, we'll get to the main main problem in a sec, but the main problem with the storyline is that it's resolved way too quickly. It warms my heart that Naruto can influence people just by being around them and he doesn't realize this, the doofus that he can be sometimes. But Sai's change of heart comes off as stilted and decreed, and not organic. Maybe because there wasn't much time to actually develop Sai's character in the first place. Still, it's ok. Art's good, and some panels are really cool. Kishimoto may still be bad with plots, but he certainly improved his art skills.
What is irritating, however, is the special snowflakiness of Sasuke. Man, I'm really fed up with this character and his over 9000! levels of power. Talk about power creep topped up by a total disappearance of personality. After this volume I'm surprised anybody would want that dude back.

Twisty turny plots revolving around Sai, and a quick resolution, too. Perhaps too quick. Well, regardless, we've come to Naruto and Sasuke's first reunion after that fantastically good fight between them, and it's damn satisfying.
Sasuke has turned evil. Not only that, he's become impressive. I still shiver at the scene where he shows up in Naruto's mind to talk with the demon.
Overall, it's a yummy volume.

It's a pity a pretty well written character like Sai was introduced in one of, if not, the worst arc in the Naruto manga.

This volume is pure brilliance. I must say, however, that I hate the cover. I find it quite underwhelming given the contents within.

New Cell 7 finally met Sasuke. It was quite a reunion, though unlike what everyone was hoping for. Sasuke was as hell-bent on revenge as ever. Naruto's squad failed their mission once again, but it's the effort one puts into something that counts, right?

There are so many plot twists going on in such a short period of time. Although they all revolve around Sai and his character, the highlight of this volume is in the epic encounter in the final act that ends on such a sad note that you could almost feel all the weight of the world squishing you as you try and wrap your mind around what just happened.
The future looks bleak for team Kakashi but it's how they bounce back that will determine the outcome of pretty much everything that is to come.

5 star for Sai. I'm invested in finishing this manga now. I remember living off of the anime as a kid and damn those fillers.

Orochimaru can honestly keep Sasuke. I don’t even like him anymore let alone want him back in Konoha and I’d be surprised if anyone likes him still.

I will talk about the Search for Sasuke arc in one go (vol 32-34), since there is a lot of downtime and not much happens in each volume to deserves a separate review. So, what happens as a whole:
-The heroes go to get Sasuke back, which is what we should be getting right after the time skip, instead of the Gaara rescue. This is the third rescue mission in a row, I mean, come on, have some variety already!
-The way they go about this mission is plain dull. Outside of Naruto who is vital to the plot, the rest of the team were just there to stall time as usual. Sakura was useless as always, Sai was an emotionless drone that never does much in the manga, and Yamato is there to introduce cloning and elemental jutsus that never go anywhere.
-Naruto loses control of his tailed beast during a fight, and we are supposed to find that worrisome or something, although we have already seen it a few times in the past and we already know it’s dangerous. Kishimoto was doing the usual gimmick where he needs to give the protagonist a broken power while at the same time giving that power a backlash, but it’s not working out that well when it comes and goes however the plot demands for it.
-The end of the mission feels like nothing was accomplished, which in turn means these three volumes are a waste of time.
They didn’t get Sasuke back
Nobody died or changed his allegiance
Sakura is still useless, Naruto is still where he started, Sai is background decoration

*sigh* Where do I begin with this volume. I really enjoyed it a lot. You learn about Sai's true mission in this volume. His mission was to assassinate Sasuke. He was doing that to protect Konoha from Orochimaru. Orochimaru's ultimate goal is to destroy the village. Sasuke is also a threat to the village.
Sakura, Naruto, and Yamato also learn more about Sai in the beginning of the novel. They open the book that Sai left behind. Once, they get back with Sai, Sakura confronts him about it. She tells him, that he did have a bond with his brother at some point.
Sai tries to tell Naruto that Sasuke doesn't have the same feelings that he has for him. Naruto doesn't care. He's determined to save Sasuke no matter what. They still do have a bond. Also, Sasuke returns in this volume..
Naruto and Sakura see him. Naruto asks Sasuke, "Why, on that day...why didn't you just kill me?! That would've broken!"
In the anime, he says. "Why didn't you kill me that day? Weren't you trying to break our bond?!"
Sasuke asks Sasuke if he still wants to be hokage. He also says you should have been busy training instead of going after me. Naruto tells him, "If someone can't save a friend, then I don't think they deserve to be hokage."
Sasuke only wants to kill his older brother. That is the reason he wants power. He says he only has the bond of hatred for his brother. He also said he spared Naruto's life on a whim. He didn't want to become anything like Itachi.
Then he attacks him.
This volume literally just made me hate Sasuke so much more. He really has made some dumb decisions especially getting revenge against Itachi. *sighs again*

Wow this was the best volume in Naruto I read in a long time.
This time we have Sai backstory and though told nicely instead of just shown in flashbacks, you get all you need to start rooting for the guy. The story likes to go back and forth on him if you should trust him, making him feel like a double agent at all times. Smart and fun. Sasuke makes his grand reappearance here and Naruto and co have to deal with it head on. Just how strong did Sasuke get over the few years? Well you take a guess. The dude always been super saiyan levels.
Overall, a ton of fun this volume, great fight scenes, and some emotional payoff. Nice job Naruto. A 4 out of 5.

Genuinely can't be bothered to write individual reviews for this series. I never watched this as a kid I don't have the childhood nostalgia or pull to it. It's another very popular/iconic manga series that whilst I can see why some people like it my feelings are very neutral and nothing I say is truly adding to it so....

Sakura and Naruto are finally reunited with Sasuke. He’s much more of a talker than he was back then and has even started dressing like Orochimaru! Sai is sus. His change of heart was nice, but felt a little too…easy? I don’t know, I still haven’t made up my mind about him.

Sinon je trouve que ça va un peu vite pour Saï mais c’est un développement intéressant. J’aurais aimé que Sakura puisse en faire plus mais bon on se sait à force….

Zas až tak moc se toho tam neděje kromě výpravy za Sasukem, ale Sai překvapil...možná nakonec nebude tak špatný, jak jsem si myslela!

They finally meet Sasuke after years apart! Intense and emotional. Also I loved Sai in this volume. Getting to understand how and why he works was great!
