My name is Zack Adderack, and I’m a screw-up, but I can change, if I have to, I guess. But first, I need to shoot a bear. We—my brother, Rory, and I—have declared war on the trebuchet-loving freaks holed up across the river. The other neighbors, for some reason, despise us—but their feelings pale in comparison to what a crazy old hunting guide up in the mountains feels for us ‘lowlanders’. That dangerous recluse is harboring secrets, as well as a beautiful daughter. Frances. She’s gorgeous, sexy, wild, and even a little mean. It’s been a madhouse ever since Rory and I dragged her home. Not to put too fine a point on it, but I want her with the fire of a thousand suns. But, winning her over isn’t as simple as it sounds. The wildlife’s encroaching, Rory’s jealous, and Ed—poor guy—is facing imminent matrimony. As if all that weren’t enough, this airplane we’re in might be stolen, my parents are dropping in for a visit, and my sister just chambered another round. Welcome to the wilderness of Alaska, home of romantic action-adventure comedy somewhere between Mad Max and Romancing the Stone, but hotter. P.S. You really should read Book 1 of this series before jumping in the deep end. *No cliffhanger on this steamy, feel-good romance.
I’m an indie author who’ll take romance over horror, entertaining over plausible, informal over straight-laced (unless those laces are being undone by one of my characters), and steamy over G-rated every day of the week.
"Zack saw a leg up on a balcony, and just walked outta the woods like a nimrod." I have been anticipating a romance for either Zack or Rory since I first read about these crazy brothers in Shaye Marlow's first Alaskan romance in Two Cabins, One Lake, when I called them "Wild. Things." The subsequent three books just upheld that first reaction - and maybe even built upon it. How in the world was Marlow going to turn either one of these man-children into leading man material? I'll tell you what she doesn't do. She doesn't change Zack one bit. He is still crazy. He is still impulsive. He is still immature. He is still blond and a little bit dumb. He is still fearless, reckless and careless, but hunger - for a woman and for a meal - makes him start playing nice.
Off hunting bear one day, Zack and Rory come upon a wilderness compound - run by "Furious" George - where a woman dressed in red with fantastic gams catches Zack's eye. Ed, "the plaid-clad voice of reason" from Two Captains, One Chair, warns the brothers off, but saying something like that to Zack is as good as shooting off a starting gun.
"My eyes burned from staring. My muscles strained, longing to charge in there and smite everyone who so much as looked at her. God, she was beautiful." In the next several chapters, Marlow has a joyful time making Zack the epitome of every "love at first sight" romantic cliche. It was hilarious. And wild. The use of an outhouse as a place for a "meet cute" was inspired.
In order to get closer to Frances, the lady in red, Zack hires her to teach him to fly a plane so he and Rory can get their own supplies from town. The two bumbling brothers have managed to alienate anyone on the river who will bring them lumber for their catapult business, replacement appliances, or food. For her own particular reasons, one or two of which might have to do with Zack's brawny biceps, Frances agrees. From there the race is on to see who can reach the seduction finish line first. Each day, the Morning Show had me howling. The scene where Zack hand washes the dishes is priceless.
“'You left the sex swing.' It dangled like the carcass of a giant spider in the corner." Before long, the hot-as-heck Morning Show turns into the Noon, Evening, Night, and All Night Shows. Actually, these two have really, really healthy sexual appetites. For awhile I felt like it overwhelmed the story. I was ready for these two to stop doing it like rabbits and have a little introspection and seriousness, but then I realized it totally wouldn't be Zack's style. And as it turns out, it wouldn't be Frances's style either.
"I’m a troublemaking bush pilot with daddy issues.” I will second that motion. Frances is wild and reckless and promiscuous and fun-loving. But it is her love of nature and animals and her exuberance with Zack that are endearing. As bad as she is, you just gotta love her.
What makes Shaye Marlow's over-the-top Alaskan stories work so well is the way that she has very strong female and male characters shift power back and forth. They trade places romantically, sexually, and in every day life. It is a roller coaster ride, and really, really fun. It makes you realize that these two quirky people are perfect for each other.
Probably my one teensy, tiny criticism is that several scenes do little to advance the story. Don't get me wrong, they are hilarious, but they are not really necessary. It's like when the Project Runway designers add feathers and sparkles to already splashy dresses. Apply restraint. But then, I don't think that would be Shaye Marlow's style. And Zack would just make a joke about the use of the word "restraint" anyway.
I can't wait for Rory's story. After all, he is the brains behind the Dynamic Duo. What will he think of next?
This was pretty good, worth reading, but not as good as the first two in the series (in my opinion). I think for me the hijinks were just a little too “out there” to be funny and so the story felt just a little over the top. Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that wild and crazy describes Zack to a T and I know his story had to be more “crazy” than the first ones just based on who he is, but I felt like most of it turned me off more than turned me on.
That being said, Shaye is a great story teller and Two Captains, One Chair is seriously one of my favorite books. It’s hard to put my finger on the difference between them, but this one just left me feeling a little squicked-out in a few parts. I’m not a fan of ménage, (I actively avoid books with it in them) and incest ménage kinda makes me want to hurl. This book does *not* have that in it, but it’s aluded to by the brothers as something they’ve participated in think it’s totally fine and... 🤢 If my feelings on that make me sound judgy then I guess I’m judgy, but that and a few other things in the book made it way less fun for me just because of the squick factor. 😑
I did really like getting to check back in with the other characters and wish they had gotten a little more page time. I love Helly and Gary and Suzy and Ed and JD. I didn’t fall in love with Zack as much as I did with Gary or Ed, but hey, we all have our favorites right? I did feel like this story did a good job of redeeming Zack and making him an enjoyable character. Pretty sure Ed will forever have my heart though. ❤️
If you are looking for a book that is hot enough to melt your Kindle and funny enough to give you a stomach ache then anything from Shaye Marlow is for you.
Zach is one of Helly’s brothers. Actually he is one of the most outrageous of the three. When he meets Frances he is all tied up after being caught on her Fathers property. This is where he gets the idea he wants her to teach him to fly.
I do not want to give anymore of this story away. However this book has fights, catapults, bears and a plane crash. It’s fast paced and Zach will totally make you fall in love with his tenacity and stubbornness.
Frances is an extremely strong woman who is not afraid to tell a man exactly what she wants and stops at nothing to get it. I loved it!
Crazy characters, activities and situations are over the top but all written in laugh out loud humour which is constant from start to finish in this story. Zack and Frances, another HEA couple in the Alaskan Romance series. Rory, who I wanted to hug in the end hopefully will get his own story too.
Once again I laughed out loud while reading this book. I love Shaye's humor. Can't wait for Rory's story. I have loved every one of this Alaskan series.
Love Shaye Marlow Alaskan stories, always so funny and enjoyable. Zach and Frances are so perfect for each other, just love their story and reading about the rest of the Alaskan crew.
Hilariously funny with such unique characters. I've enjoyed Shays's Alaskan romances adventures so much. I laugh, I go "wow", I'm always blown away. So much fun!!!
3.5 stars. This one wasn't quite up to snuff with the others in the series. it felt a little long and a little disorganized and a little bit ridiculous. Having said that there were parts where I laughed out loud. Liked it but not quite as much as the rest of the series.
Zack and his twin brother, Rory, are trying to become better citizen's in their town after the Bigfoot-sighting incident they faked. And one way to up their reputation is to claim the biggest bear in Alaska. But first, Zack needs to learn how to fly. And what better flying instructor can he get, other than the super sexy woman with daddy issues.
I love this series. Hilarious and steamy! I don't seem to find a lot of steamy books that are humorous because most of them are serious and focuses on drama, which aren't bad. But I'll definitely take comedy any day (Either that, or I haven't read a lot of it). Though I think it could use more comedy. I appreciate this series so much.
Anyway, I've always thought that Zack and Rory are never gonna get their own stories because I always saw them as comedic reliefs from the former books. Yet here we are.
Two Brutes, and One Barista was JD's story. And that book has elements of romance and sensitivity. And this book, has so little of it. And I won't complain! Zack is not a romantic at all. And a girl who could match him should be laid back too. And I appreciate that, because this author knows her characters very well! Just because they're in a romance book, doesn't mean that a character should do a 180.
There were also some twists in this story that I thought was pretty good. I love that she didn't leave any holes. And I love the fore-shadowing for Rory's story. I'm definitely looking forward to that. And crossing my fingers, that won't be the end of the series.
This book is good. As long as you can handle it, you'll definitely appreciate it.
This is the fourth book of Shaye's zany Alaskan romances: one really needs to read them in order to capture the full hilarity of these characters! The creativity of the shenanigans that brothers Zack & Rory get into are unbelievably funny! Each book gets a little wilder so by book 4, it's really out there. The good hearted, but destructive batty brothers try the patience of their neighbors, and everyone else along the river. When Zach sets his sights in crazy Frances, well, what one doesn't think of one of the other two whack jobs will. This book is just wild & crazy HOT! good fun!
Honestly I love this story line. It has all the anticipated shenanigans expected of the Adderack brothers. It gives you more insight on how Rory and Zack teamed up and what makes Zack tick. Frances is a pistol who you fall in love with along side Zack. This book has the mischief, catapults, planes, bartering, attraction, and all the characters that you love! Highly recommended!
I can't wait to see what Rory story will be, I just about fell out if my chair laughing so hard. Loved the story line and I couldn't put down when I'd started reading. More stories for this series, I love love love it. Thought at 1st that it was about both brother and a woman, but a jealous brother and him hiring those guys to chase her off threw me the gaint bear her pet.
Shaye is one of those rare romance writers who writes rom-coms that are truly funny. Many try but few succeed, and that's why I recommend her to everyone. A few have criticized her, saying that the characters are too farfetched. I invite them to come on up. They have NO idea how nuts people up here can be.
I could not wait for this story to get here, I absolutely loved it. I laughed so hard a couple of times that I had tears rolling down my cheeks. Francis and Zack are great together, and you throw in Rory and you can't help but have complete mischief gone wrong and right. If you love a good love story, along with humor this is the book and series for you. Ms. Marlow never disappoints.
Yep, she did it again. I don't know how, maybe it's something in the water up north but seriously, I don't need to know how but when the next book will be available. Maybe one suggestion: since we had a little taste of Mom and Pop Addarack and a glimpse why their children are the way they are, their roles could be further developed? Just a thought...
As far as crazy thing happening i would say this book covers it as one of the 2 that destroyed everythin they came in contact i think the people in his area was getting revenge finally but in the end someone was able to show zack how to do it nicely and have fun while doing paybacks.
A laugh out loud book with a flawed hero and a sticky fingered heroine with the best of intentions. Add his unfiltered mother, her unbalanced dad, and a host of unfriendly wildlife makes a wonderful change of pace romance. Definitely not a run of the mill romance. I really can't wait for the next in the series!!!! Another winner for this reader!
The beginning and end were good but the middle dragged out. Zack and Frances were definitely a good match but I didn’t like this book as much as the others in the series. Again it just seemed to drag on but the ending did make up for it.
I had to stop and could not get into it for the fact the girl acted like such a tramp. Shes a attention whore with loose morals. Totally ruined a good funny book
This is a story full of laughter, adventure, pranks, and romance! It's worth every second. Shaye Marlow keeps writing books you don't want to end. Pick this one up and enjoy the ride!
OMG. 4 for 4. This series is crazy good. And Zack & Frances each are super crazy together. I didn’t think Zack could redeem himself and grow up after all the previous books, but damn!! He does. And the spice. OMG. So hot. And I loved the story. So much going on and I loved it all.
I liked Two Crazy, One Wild. Frances, Zack, and Rory were comfortable within their skins. Frances and Zack were perfect for each other. I did feel a little sorry for Rory, though.
I am really really hoping this isn’t the end of the Alaskan romance series and that we will continue with Rory’s story! I really loved the craziness of this community and there was plenty of steam!!
